the LORD cut off all flattering lips

says, "We will triumph with our tongues;
we
own our lips B--who
is our master?"
5
"Because
of the oppression of the weak
and
the groaning of the needy,
I
will now arise,"
says the LORD.
"I
will protect them from those who malign them."

And
the words of the LORD are flawless,
like
silver refined in a furnace of clay,
purified
seven times.

O
LORD, you will keep us safe
and
protect us from such people forever.

I used to go with the multitude,

Endow
the king with your justice, O God,

royal son with your righteousness.

will defend the afflicted among the people
and
save the children of the needy;

A
prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament
before the LORD.
1
Hear
my prayer, O LORD;
let
my cry for help come to you.
2
Do
not hide your face from me
when
I am in distress.
Turn
your ear to me;
when
I call, answer me quickly.
3
For
my days vanish like smoke;
my
bones burn like glowing embers.
4
My
heart is blighted and withered like grass;
I
forget to eat my food.
5
Because
of my loud groaning
I
am reduced to skin and bones.
6
I
am like a desert owl,
like
an owl among the ruins.
7
I
lie awake; I have become
like
a bird alone on a roof.

All
day long my enemies taunt me;
those
who rail against me use my name as a curse.

For
I eat ashes as my food

LORD, remember David
and
all the hardships he endured.

swore an oath to the LORD

made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:

"I
will not enter my house

go to my bed--

I
will allow no sleep to my eyes,

slumber to my eyelids,

till
I find a place for the LORD,
a
dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."

We

us go to his dwelling place;

the righteous cannot be uprooted.

wife of noble character is her husband's crown,
but
a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

The
plans of the righteous are just,
but
the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

The
words of the wicked lie in wait for blood,
but
the speech of the upright rescues them.

Wicked
men are overthrown and are no more,

I
have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they
will never be silent day or night.
You
who call on the LORD,
give
yourselves no rest,
7
and
give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem
and
makes her the praise of the earth.
8
The
LORD has sworn by his right hand
and
by his mighty arm:
"Never
again will I give your grain
as
food for your enemies,
and
never again will foreigners drink the new wine
for
which you have toiled;
9
but
those who harvest it will eat it
and
praise the LORD,
and
those who gather the grapes will drink it
in
the courts of my sanctuary."
10
Pass
through, pass through the gates!
Prepare
the way for the people.
Build
up, build up the highway!
Remove
the stones.
Raise
a banner for the nations.
11
The
LORD has made proclamation
to
the ends of the earth:
`See,
your Savior comes!
See,
his reward is with him,
and
his recompense accompanies him.'"

They
will be called the Holy People,
the
Redeemed of the LORD;
and
you will be called Sought After,
the
City No Longer Deserted.

Who is this coming from Edom,
from
Bozrah, with his garments stained crimson?
Who
is this, robed in splendor,
striding
forward in the greatness of his strength?
"It
is I, speaking in righteousness,
mighty
to save."

Why
are your garments red,
like
those of one treading the winepress?

"I
have trodden the winepress alone;
from
the nations no one was with me.
I
trampled them in my anger

trod them down in my wrath;
their
blood spattered my garments,

I stained all my clothing.

For
the day of vengeance was in my heart,

the year of my redemption has come.

said, "Surely
they are my people,

who will not be false to me";
and
so he became their Savior.

In
all their distress he too was distressed,
and
the angel of his presence saved them. 16

his love and mercy he redeemed them;

lifted them up and carried them
all
the days of old.

Yet
they rebelled
and
grieved his Holy Spirit.
So
he turned and became their enemy

he himself fought against them.

his people recalledA
the days of old,
the
days of Moses and his people--
where
is he who brought them through the sea,

the shepherd of his flock?

is he who set

Holy Spirit among them,

sent his glorious arm of power

be at Moses' right hand,

divided the waters before them,

gain for himself everlasting renown,

who
led them through the depths?
Like
a horse in open country,
they
did not stumble;

like
cattle that go down to the plain,

were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD.

is how you guided your people
to
make for yourself a glorious name. 17

Look
down from heaven and see
from
your lofty throne, holy and glorious.
Where
are your zeal and your might?
Your
tenderness and compassion are withheld from us.

But
you are our Father,
though
Abraham does not know us
or
Israel acknowledge us;
you,
O LORD, are our Father,
our
Redeemer from of old is your name.
17
Why,
O LORD, do you make us wander from your ways
and
harden our hearts so we do not revere you?
Return
for the sake of your servants,
the
tribes that are your inheritance.
18
For
a little while your people possessed your holy place,
but
now our enemies have trampled down your sanctuary.

We
are yours from of old;
but
you have not ruled over them,
they
have not been called by your name. B

Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down,
that
the mountains would tremble before you!

As
when fire sets twigs ablaze
and
causes water to boil,
come
down to make your name known to your enemies
and
cause the nations to quake before you! 18

For
when you did awesome things that we did not expect,
you
came down, and the mountains trembled before you.
4
Since
ancient times no one has heard,
no
ear has perceived,
no
eye has seen any God besides you,
who
acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

You
come to the help of those who gladly do right,
who
remember your ways.
But
when we continued to sin against them,
you
were angry.
How
then can we be saved?

All
of us have become like one who is unclean,
and
all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we
all shrivel up like a leaf,
and
like the wind our sins sweep us away.

No
one calls on your name
or
strives to lay hold of you;
for
you have hidden your face from us
and
made us waste away because of our sins.

Yet,
O LORD, you are our Father.
We
are the clay, you are the potter;
we
are all the work of your hand.

not be angry beyond measure, O LORD;
do
not remember our sins forever.
Oh,
look upon us, we pray,
for

Your
sacred cities have become a desert;
even
Zion is a desert, Jerusalem a desolation.

holy and glorious temple, where our fathers praised you,

been burned with fire,

all this, O LORD, will you hold yourself back?

you keep silent and punish us beyond measure?

"I
revealed myself to those who did not ask for me;
I
was found by those who did not seek me.
To
a nation that did not call on my name,
I
said, `Here am I, here am I.'

All day long I have held out my hands
to
an obstinate people,
who
walk in ways not good,
pursuing
their own imaginations--
3
a people who continually provoke me
to
my very face,
offering
sacrifices in gardens
and
burning incense on altars of brick;
4
who sit among the graves
and
spend their nights keeping secret vigil; 20
who
eat the flesh of pigs,
and
whose pots hold broth of unclean meat;
5
who say, `Keep away; don't come near me,
for
I am too sacred for you!'
Such
people are smoke in my nostrils,
a
fire that keeps burning all day.

"See,
it stands written before me:
I
will not keep silent but will pay back in full;
I
will pay it back into their laps--
7
both your sins and the sins of your fathers,"
says
the LORD.
"Because
they burned sacrifices on the mountains
and
defied me on the hills,
I
will measure into their laps
the
full payment for their former deeds."

This
is what the LORD says:
"As
when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes
and
men say, `Don't destroy it,
there
is yet some good in it,'
so
will I do in behalf of my servants;
I
will not destroy them all.

I
will bring forth descendants from Jacob,
and
from Judah those who will possess my mountains; 21
my
chosen people will inherit them,
and
there will my servants live.
10
Sharon
will become a pasture for flocks,
and
the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds,
for
my people who seek me.
11
"But as for you who forsake the LORD
and
forget my holy mountain,
who
spread a table for Fortune
and
fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,
12
I will destine you for the sword,
and
you will all bend down for the slaughter;
for
I called but you did not answer,
I
spoke but you did not listen.
You
did evil in my sight
and
chose what displeases me."

Therefore
this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
"My
servants will eat,
but
you will go hungry;
my
servants will drink,
but
you will go thirsty;
my
servants will rejoice,
but
you will be put to shame.

My servants will sing 22
out
of the joy of their hearts,
but
you will cry out
from
anguish of heart
and
wail in brokenness of spirit.
15
You will leave your name
to
my chosen ones as a curse;
the
Sovereign LORD will put you to death,
but
to his servants he will give another name.
16
Whoever invokes a blessing in the land
will
do so by the God of truth;
he
who takes an oath in the land
will
swear by the God of truth.
For
the past troubles will be forgotten
and
hidden from my eyes.
17
"Behold, I will create
new
heavens and a new earth.
The
former things will not be remembered,
nor
will they come to mind.
18
But be glad and rejoice forever
in
what I will create,
for
I will create Jerusalem to be a delight
and
its people a joy.
19
I will rejoice over Jerusalem 23
and
take delight in my people;
the
sound of weeping and of crying
will
be heard in it no more.

"Never
again will there be in it
an
infant who lives but a few days,
or
an old man who does not live out his years;
he
who dies at a hundred
will
be thought a mere youth;
he
who fails to reach A
a hundred
will
be considered accursed.

They will build houses and dwell in them;
they
will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.

No longer will they build houses and others live in them,
or
plant and others eat.
For
as the days of a tree,
so
will be the days of my people;

chosen ones will long enjoy

works of their hands.

They will not toil in vain
or
bear children doomed to misfortune;
for
they will be a people blessed by the LORD,
they
and their descendants with them.

Before they call I will answer;
while
they are still speaking I will hear.

The
wolf and the lamb will feed together, 24
and
the lion will eat straw like the ox,
but
dust will be the serpent's food.
They
will neither harm nor destroy
on
all my holy mountain,"
says

PHILIPPIANS 2:19 - 3:3

I
hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may
be cheered when I receive news about you. 20
I
have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your
welfare. 21
For
everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.
22
But
you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his
father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23
I
hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.
24
And
I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.
25
But
I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother,
fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom
you sent to take care of my needs.
26
For
he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was
ill.
27
Indeed
he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him
only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28
Therefore
I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again
you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.
29
Welcome
him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him,
30
because
he almost died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up
for the help you could not give me.

Finally,
my brothers, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write
the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.

Watch
out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the
flesh. 3
For
it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." H
