They

All
have turned aside,
they
have together become corrupt;
there
is no one who does good,
not
even one.
4
Will
evildoers never learn--
those
who devour my people as men eat bread
and
who do not call on the LORD?
5
There
they are, overwhelmed with dread,
for
God is present in the company of the righteous.

You
evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
but
the LORD is their refuge.

that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!

have heard with our ears, O God;

fathers have told us
what
you did in their days,

your hand you drove out the nations

planted our fathers;

did their arm bring them victory;
it
was your right hand, your arm,
and
the light of your face, for you loved them.

are my King and my God,

If
we had forgotten the name of our God
or
spread out our hands to a foreign god,

not God have discovered it,
since
he knows the secrets of the heart?

Yet
for your sake we face death all day long;

are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

1
Why
have you rejected us forever, O God?
Why
does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
2
Remember
the people you purchased of old,
the
tribe of your inheritance, whom you redeemed--
Mount
Zion, where you dwelt.
3
Turn
your steps toward these everlasting ruins,
all
this destruction the enemy has brought on the sanctuary.
4
Your
foes roared in the place where you met with us;
they
set up their standards as signs.
5
They
behaved like men wielding axes
to
cut through a thicket of trees.
6
They
smashed all the carved paneling
with
their axes and hatchets.
7
They
burned your sanctuary to the ground;
they
defiled the dwelling place of your Name.

They
said in their hearts, "We will crush them completely!"
They
burned every place where God was worshiped in the land.

We
are given no miraculous signs;
no
prophets are left,
and
none of us knows how long this will be.

How
long will the enemy mock you, O God?
Will
the foe revile your name forever?

Why
do you hold back your hand, your right hand?
Take
it from the folds of your garment and destroy them!

But
you, O God, are my king from of old;
you

was you who split open the sea by your power;
you
broke the heads of the monster in the waters.

was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan

Praise
the LORD, O my soul.
O
LORD my God, you are very great;

are clothed with splendor and majesty.

He
wraps himself in light as with a garment;

stretches out the heavens like a tent

and
lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

makes the clouds his chariot
and
rides on the wings of the wind.

He
makes winds his messengers, A
flames
of fire his servants.

He
set the earth on its foundations;
it
can never be moved.

You
covered it with the deep as with a garment;
the
waters stood above the mountains.

But
at your rebuke the waters fled,

set a boundary they cannot cross;

The
words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in
the territory of Benjamin. 2
The
word of the LORD came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of
Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, 3
and
through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to
the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king
of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
4
The
word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5
"Before
I formed you in the womb I knew A
you,
before
you were born I set you apart;
I
appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
6
"Ah,
Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am
only a child."
7
But
the LORD said to me, "Do
not say, `I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to
and say whatever I command you. 8
Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,"
declares the LORD.
9
Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to
me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth. 10
See,
today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear
down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."
11
The
word of the LORD came to me: "What
do you see, Jeremiah?"
"I
see the branch of an almond tree," I replied.
12
The
LORD said to me, "You
have seen correctly, for I am watching B
to see that my word is fulfilled."
13
The
word of the LORD came to me again: "What
do you see?"
"I
see a boiling pot, tilting away from the north," I answered.
14
The
LORD said to me, "From
the north disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land. 15
I
am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms,"
declares the LORD.
"Their
kings will come and set up their thrones
in
the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem;
they
will come against all her surrounding walls
and
against all the towns of Judah. 15
16
I will pronounce my judgments on my people
because
of their wickedness in forsaking me,
in
burning incense to other gods
and
in worshiping what their hands have made.
17
"Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command
you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.
18
Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze
wall to stand against the whole land--against the kings of Judah, its
officials, its priests and the people of the land.
19
They
will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you
and will rescue you,"
declares the LORD.

"Go
and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:
"`I
remember the devotion of your youth,
how
as a bride you loved me
and
followed me through the desert,
through
a land not sown.
3
Israel was holy to the LORD,
the
firstfruits of his harvest;
all
who devoured her were held guilty,
and
disaster overtook them,'"
declares
the LORD.
4
Hear
the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, 16
all
you clans of the house of Israel.
5
This
is what the LORD says:
"What
fault did your fathers find in me,
that
they strayed so far from me?
They
followed worthless idols
and
became worthless themselves.
6
They did not ask, `Where is the LORD,
who
brought us up out of Egypt
and
led us through the barren wilderness,
through
a land of deserts and rifts,
a
land of drought and darkness, A
a
land where no one travels and no one lives?'
7
I brought you into a fertile land
to
eat its fruit and rich produce.
But
you came and defiled my land
and
made my inheritance detestable.
8
The priests did not ask,
`Where
is the LORD?'
Those
who deal with the law did not know me;
the
leaders rebelled against me.
The
prophets prophesied by Baal,
following
worthless idols.
declares
the LORD.
"And
I will bring charges against your children's children.

Cross over to the coasts of Kittim B
and look,
send
to Kedar C
and observe closely;
see
if there has ever been anything like this:

Has a nation ever changed its gods?
(Yet
they are not gods at all.)
But
my people have exchanged their D

for
worthless idols.

Be appalled at this, O heavens,
and
shudder with great horror,"
declares
the LORD.

"My
people have committed two sins:
They
have forsaken me,
the
spring of living water,
and
have dug their own cisterns,
broken
cisterns that cannot hold water.

Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth?
Why
then has he become plunder?
15
Lions have roared;
they
have growled at him.
They
have laid waste his land;
his
towns are burned and deserted.

Have you not brought this on yourselves
by
forsaking the LORD your God
when
he led you in the way?
18
Now why go to Egypt
to
drink water from the Shihor G?
And
why go to Assyria
to
drink water from the River H?

Your wickedness will punish you;

backsliding will rebuke you.
Consider
then and realize
how
evil and bitter it is for you
when
you forsake the LORD your God
and
have no awe of me,"
declares
the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

"Long
ago you broke off your yoke
and
tore off your bonds;
you
said, `I will not serve you!'
Indeed,
on every high hill
and
under every spreading tree
you
lay down as a prostitute.

I had planted you like a choice vine
of
sound and reliable stock.
How
then did you turn against me
into
a corrupt, wild vine?

Although you wash yourself with soda
and
use an abundance of soap,
the
stain of your guilt is still before me,"
declares
the Sovereign LORD.

"How
can you say, `I am not defiled;
I
have not run after the Baals'?
See
how you behaved in the valley;
consider
what you have done.
You
are a swift she-camel
running
here and there,
24
a wild donkey accustomed to the desert,
sniffing
the wind in her craving--
in
her heat who can restrain her?
Any
males that pursue her need not tire themselves;
at
mating time they will find her.
25
Do not run until your feet are bare
and
your throat is dry.
But
you said, `It's no use!
I
love foreign gods,
and
I must go after them.'

"As a thief is disgraced when he is caught,
so
the house of Israel is disgraced--
they,
their kings and their officials,
their
priests and their prophets.
27
They say to wood, `You are my father,'
and
to stone, `You gave me birth.' 20
They
have turned their backs to me
and
not their faces;
yet
when they are in trouble, they say,
`Come
and save us!'
28
Where then are the gods you made for yourselves?
Let
them come if they can save you
when
you are in trouble!
For
you have as many gods
as
you have towns, O Judah.

"Why do you bring charges against me?
You
have all rebelled against me,"
declares
the LORD.

"In
vain I punished your people;
they
did not respond to correction.

sword has devoured your prophets

in the Lord.

Yes,
and I ask you, loyal yokefellow, A
help these women who have contended at my side in the cause of the
gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose
names are in the book of life.

Rejoice
in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5
Let
your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6
Do
not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and
petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7
And
the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your
hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally,
brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if
anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. 9
Whatever
you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put it
into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

I
rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your
concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no
opportunity to show it. 11

am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be
content whatever the circumstances. 12
I
know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.
I have learned the secret of being content in any and every
situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in
want. 13
I
can do everything through him who gives me strength.

Yet
it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15
Moreover,
as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with
the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with
me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;

for
even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when
I was in need. 17
Not
that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be
credited to your account. 18
I
have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now
that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a
fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19
And
my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in
Christ Jesus.
20
To
our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 22

Greet
all the saints in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send
greetings.
