Keep
me safe, O God,

said to the LORD, "You are my Lord;

for the saints who are in the land,
they
are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight.

run after other gods.

will not pour out their libations of blood

take up their names on my lips.

LORD,
you have assigned me my portion and my cup;

boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

In
Judah God is known;
his
name is great in Israel.
2
His
tent is in Salem,
his
dwelling place in Zion.
3
There
he broke the flashing arrows,
the
shields and the swords, the weapons of war.
Selah
4
You
are resplendent with light,
more
majestic than mountains rich with game.
5
Valiant
men lie plundered,
they
sleep their last sleep;
not
one of the warriors
can
lift his hands.
6
At
your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both
horse and chariot lie still.
7
You
alone are to be feared.
Who
can stand before you when you are angry?
8
From
heaven you pronounced judgment,
and
the land feared and was quiet--

when
you, O God, rose up to judge,
to
save all the afflicted of the land.

Praise
the LORD. A
Give
thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his
love endures forever.
2
Who
can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD
or
fully declare his praise?
3
Blessed
are they who maintain justice,
who
constantly do what is right.
4
Remember
me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people,
come
to my aid when you save them,
5
that
I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that
I may share in the joy of your nation
and
join your inheritance in giving praise.
6
We
have sinned, even as our fathers did;
we
have done wrong and acted wickedly.
7
When
our fathers were in Egypt,
they
gave no thought to your miracles;
they
did not remember your many kindnesses,
and
they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. B
8
Yet
he saved them for his name's sake,
to
make his mighty power known.
9
He
rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up;
he
led them through the depths as through a desert.
10
He
saved them from the hand of the foe;
from
the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.
11
The
waters covered their adversaries;
not
one of them survived.
12
Then
they believed his promises
and
sang his praise. [6]

But
they soon forgot what he had done
and
did not wait for his counsel.
14
In
the desert they gave in to their craving;
in
the wasteland they put God to the test.

So
he gave them what they asked for,
but
sent a wasting disease upon them.

In
the camp they grew envious of Moses
and
of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD.
17
The
earth opened up and swallowed Dathan;
it
buried the company of Abiram.
18
Fire
blazed among their followers;
a
flame consumed the wicked.
19
At
Horeb they made a calf
and
worshiped an idol cast from metal.
20
They
exchanged their Glory
for
an image of a bull, which eats grass.
21
They
forgot the God who saved them,
who
had done great things in Egypt,
22
miracles
in the land of Ham
and
awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23
So
he said he would destroy them--
had
not Moses, his chosen one,
stood
in the breach before him
to
keep his wrath from destroying them.
24
Then
they despised the pleasant land;
they
did not believe his promise.
25
They
grumbled in their tents
and
did not obey the LORD.
26
So
he swore to them with uplifted hand
that
he would make them fall in the desert,
27
make
their descendants fall among the nations [7]
and
scatter them throughout the lands.
28
They
yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor
and
ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29
they
provoked the LORD to anger by their wicked deeds,
and
a plague broke out among them.
30
But
Phinehas stood up and intervened,
and
the plague was checked.
31
This
was credited to him as righteousness
for
endless generations to come.
32
By
the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD,
and
trouble came to Moses because of them;
33
for
they rebelled against the Spirit of God,
and
rash words came from Moses' lips. C
34
They
did not destroy the peoples
as
the LORD had commanded them,
35
but
they mingled with the nations
and
adopted their customs.
36
They
worshiped their idols,
which
became a snare to them.
37
They
sacrificed their sons
and
their daughters to demons.
38
They
shed innocent blood,
the
blood of their sons and daughters,
whom
they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and
the land was desecrated by their blood.
39
They
defiled themselves by what they did;
by
their deeds they prostituted themselves.
40
Therefore
the LORD was angry with his people
and
abhorred his inheritance.
41
He
handed them over to the nations,
and
their foes ruled over them. [8]

Their
enemies oppressed them
and
subjected them to their power.
43
Many
times he delivered them,
but
they were bent on rebellion
and
they wasted away in their sin.
44
But
he took note of their distress
when
he heard their cry;
45
for
their sake he remembered his covenant
and
out of his great love he relented.

He
caused them to be pitied
by
all who held them captive.
47
Save
us, O LORD our God,
and
gather us from the nations,
that
we may give thanks to your holy name
and
glory in your praise.

Praise
be to the LORD, the God of Israel,

PROVERBS: 16
16
1
To man belong the plans of the heart,
but
from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
2
All
a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but
motives are weighed by the LORD.
3
Commit
to the LORD whatever you do,
and
your plans will succeed.
4
The
LORD works out everything for his own ends--
even
the wicked for a day of disaster.
5
The
LORD detests all the proud of heart.
Be
sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
6
Through
love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through
the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.
7
When
a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD,
he
makes even his enemies live at peace with him.
8
Better
a little with righteousness
than
much gain with injustice.
9
In
his heart a man plans his course,
but
the LORD determines his steps.
10
The
lips of a king speak as an oracle,
and
his mouth should not betray justice.
11
Honest
scales and balances are from the LORD;
all
the weights in the bag are of his making. [12]

Kings
detest wrongdoing,
for
a throne is established through righteousness.

Caleb
son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah (and by Jerioth). These were her
sons: Jesher, Shobab and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married
Ephrath, who bore him Hur. 20 Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the
father of Bezalel.
21
Later,
Hezron lay with the daughter of Makir the father of Gilead (he had married her
when he was sixty years old), and she bore him Segub. 22 Segub was
the father of Jair, who controlled twenty-three towns in Gilead. 23
(But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth Jair, F as well as Kenath
with its surrounding settlements--sixty towns.) All these were descendants of
Makir the father of Gilead.
24
After
Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Abijah the wife of Hezron bore him Ashhur the
father G of Tekoa.
25
The
sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron:
Ram
his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem andH Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel
had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.
27
The
sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel:
Maaz,
Jamin and Eker.
28
The
sons of Onam:
Shammai
and Jada.
The
sons of Shammai:
Nadab
and Abishur.
29
Abishur's
wife was named Abihail, who bore him Ahban and Molid.

The
sons of Nadab:
Seled
and Appaim. Seled died without children.

The
son of Appaim:
Ishi,
who was the father of Sheshan.
Sheshan
was the father of Ahlai.

Tappuah, Rekem and Shema. 44 Shema was the father of Raham, and Raham
the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai. 45 The son of
Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth Zur.

Caleb's
concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza and Gazez. Haran was the father of
Gazez.

The
sons of Jahdai:
Regem,
Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah and Shaaph.
48
Caleb's
concubine Maacah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah. 49She also
gave birth to Shaaph the father of Madmannah and to Sheva the father of Macbenah
and Gibea. Caleb's daughter was Acsah. 50 These were the descendants
of Caleb. [16]

sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah:
Shobal
the father of Kiriath Jearim, 51 Salma the father of Bethlehem, and
Hareph the father of Beth Gader.

The
descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim were:
Haroeh,
half the Manahathites, 53 and the clans of Kiriath Jearim: the
Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites and Mishraites. From these descended the
Zorathites and Eshtaolites.

The
descendants of Salma:
Bethlehem,
the Netophathites, Atroth Beth Joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites,
55
and
the clans of scribes J who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites,
Shimeathites and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the
father of the house of Recab. K

were the sons of David born to him in Hebron:
The
firstborn was Amnon the son of Ahinoam of Jezreel;
the
second, Daniel the son of Abigail of Carmel;

the
third, Absalom the son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith;

the
fifth, Shephatiah the son of Abital;
and
the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah.

These
six were born to David in Hebron, where he reigned seven years and six months.
David
reigned in Jerusalem thirty-three years, 5 and these were the
children born to him there:

A Shobab, Nathan and Solomon. These four were by Bathsheba
B daughter of Ammiel. 6 There were also Ibhar,
Elishua,C Eliphelet, 7 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,

David, besides his sons by his concubines. And Tamar was their sister.

Lahad. These were the clans of the Zorathites.

the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah.

TESTAMENT: ACTS 24: 1- 27

Five
days later the high priest Ananias went down to Caesarea with some of the elders
and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they brought their charges against Paul before
the governor. 2 When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case
before Felix: "We have enjoyed a long period of peace under you, and your
foresight has brought about reforms in this nation. 3 Everywhere and
in every way, most excellent Felix, we acknowledge this with profound gratitude.
4 But in order not to weary you further, I would request that you be
kind enough to hear us briefly.
5
"We
have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots among the Jews all
over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene sect 6and even
tried to desecrate the temple; so we seized him. 8 By A
examining him yourself you will be able to learn the truth about all these
charges we are bringing against him."
9
The
Jews joined in the accusation, asserting that these things were true.
10
When
the governor motioned for him to speak, Paul replied: "I know that for a number
of years you have been a judge over this nation; so I gladly make my defense.
11
You
can easily verify that no more than twelve days ago I went up to Jerusalem to
worship. 12 My accusers did not find me arguing with anyone at the
temple, or stirring up a crowd in the synagogues or anywhere else in the city.
13 And they cannot prove to you the charges they are now making
against me. 14 However, I admit that I worship the God of our fathers
as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that
agrees with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, 15 and I
have the same hope in God as these men, that there [19]
will
be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. 16 So I
strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man.
17
"After
an absence of several years, I came to Jerusalem to bring my people gifts for
the poor and to present offerings. 18 I was ceremonially clean when
they found me in the temple courts doing this. There was no crowd with me, nor
was I involved in any disturbance. 19 But there are some Jews from
the province of Asia, who ought to be here before you and bring charges if they
have anything against me. 20 Or these who are here should state what
crime they found in me when I stood before the Sanhedrin—21 unless it
was this one thing I shouted as I stood in their presence: `It is concerning the resurrection
of the dead that I am on trial before you today.'"

Then
Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way, adjourned the proceedings. "When
Lysias the commander comes," he said, "I will decide your case." 23
He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard but to give him some
freedom and permit his friends to take care of his needs.
24
Several
days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul
and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. 25 As
Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix
was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it
convenient, I will send for you." 26 At the same time he was hoping
that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with
him. [20]
27
When
two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, but because Felix
wanted to grant a favor to the Jews, he left Paul in prison. [21]
