the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the
hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said:

I
love you, O LORD, my strength.
2
The
LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my
God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He
is my shield and the horn A
of my salvation, my stronghold.
3
I
call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and
I am saved from my enemies.
4
The
cords of death entangled me;
the
torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5
The
cords of the grave B
coiled around me;
the
snares of death confronted me.
6
In
my distress I called to the LORD;
I
cried to my God for help.
From
his temple he heard my voice;
my
cry came before him, into his ears.
7
The
earth trembled and quaked,
and
the foundations of the mountains shook;
they
trembled because he was angry.

Smoke
rose from his nostrils;
consuming
fire came from his mouth,
burning
coals blazed out of it.

He
parted the heavens and came down;
dark
clouds were under his feet.

He
mounted the cherubim and flew;
he

He
made darkness his covering, his canopy around him--
the
dark rain clouds of the sky.

Out
of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced,
with
hailstones and bolts of lightning.

The
LORD thundered from heaven;
the
voice of the Most High resounded. C

shot his arrows and scattered the enemies,
great
bolts of lightning and routed them.
15
The
valleys of the sea were exposed
and
the foundations of the earth laid bare
at
your rebuke, O LORD,
at
the blast of breath from your nostrils.
16
He
reached down from on high and took hold of me;
he
drew me out of deep waters.
17
He
rescued me from my powerful enemy,
from
my foes, who were too strong for me.
18
They
confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but
the LORD was my support.
19
He
brought me out into a spacious place;
he
rescued me because he delighted in me.
20
The
LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness;
according
to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
21
For
I have kept the ways of the LORD;
I
have not done evil by turning from my God.
22
All
his laws are before me;
I
have not turned away from his decrees.
23
I
have been blameless before him
and
have kept myself from sin.
24
The
LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according
to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. 2

To
the faithful you show yourself faithful,
to
the blameless you show yourself blameless,

to
the pure you show yourself pure,
but
to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.

You
save the humble
but
bring low those whose eyes are haughty.

have made me the head of nations;

I did not know are subject to me.

soon as they hear me, they obey me;
foreigners

Exalted

He
is the God who avenges me,
who
subdues nations under me,

is the LORD, and most worthy of praise,

the city of our God, his holy mountain.

It
is beautiful in its loftiness,
the
joy of the whole earth.
Like
the utmost heights of Zaphon A
is Mount Zion,
the

city of the Great King.

God
is in her citadels;
he
has shown himself to be her fortress.
4
When
the kings joined forces,
when
they advanced together,

they
saw her and were astounded;
they
fled in terror.

Trembling
seized them there,

like that of a woman in labor.

destroyed them like ships of Tarshish

1
O
my people, hear my teaching;
listen
to the words of my mouth.
2
I
will open my mouth in parables,
I
will utter hidden things, things from of old--
3
what
we have heard and known,
what
our fathers have told us.
4
We
will not hide them from their children;
we
will tell the next generation
the
praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,
his
power, and the wonders he has done.
5
He
decreed statutes for Jacob
and
established the law in Israel,
which
he commanded our forefathers
to
teach their children,
6
so
the next generation would know them,
even
the children yet to be born,
and
they in turn would tell their children.
7
Then
they would put their trust in God
and
would not forget his deeds
but
would keep his commands.
8
They
would not be like their forefathers--
a
stubborn and rebellious generation,
whose
hearts were not loyal to God,
whose
spirits were not faithful to him.
9
The
men of Ephraim, though armed with bows,
turned
back on the day of battle;
10
they
did not keep God's covenant
and
refused to live by his law.
11
They
forgot what he had done,
the
wonders he had shown them.

He
did miracles in the sight of their fathers
in
the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
13
He
divided the sea and led them through;
he
made the water stand firm like a wall.
14
He
guided them with the cloud by day
and
with light from the fire all night.

He
split the rocks in the desert
and
gave them water as abundant as the seas;

he
brought streams out of a rocky crag
and
made water flow down like rivers.

But
they continued to sin against him,
rebelling
in the desert against the Most High.

They
willfully put God to the test
by
demanding the food they craved.

They
spoke against God, saying,
"Can
God spread a table in the desert?

When
he struck the rock, water gushed out,
and
streams flowed abundantly.
But
can he also give us food?
Can
he supply meat for his people?"
21
When
the LORD heard them, he was very angry;
his
fire broke out against Jacob,
and
his wrath rose against Israel,
22
for
they did not believe in God
or
trust in his deliverance.
23
Yet
he gave a command to the skies above
and
opened the doors of the heavens;
24
he
rained down manna for the people to eat, 7
he
gave them the grain of heaven.
25
Men
ate the bread of angels;
he
sent them all the food they could eat.
26
He
let loose the east wind from the heavens
and
led forth the south wind by his power.
27
He
rained meat down on them like dust,
flying
birds like sand on the seashore.
28
He
made them come down inside their camp,
all
around their tents.
29
They
ate till they had more than enough,
for
he had given them what they craved.
30
But
before they turned from the food they craved,
even
while it was still in their mouths,
31
God's
anger rose against them;
he
put to death the sturdiest among them,
cutting
down the young men of Israel.
32
In
spite of all this, they kept on sinning;
in
spite of his wonders, they did not believe.
33
So
he ended their days in futility
and
their years in terror.
34
Whenever
God slew them, they would seek him;
they
eagerly turned to him again.
35
They
remembered that God was their Rock,
that
God Most High was their Redeemer.
36
But
then they would flatter him with their mouths,
lying
to him with their tongues;
37
their
hearts were not loyal to him,
they
were not faithful to his covenant.
38
Yet
he was merciful;
he
forgave their iniquities
and
did not destroy them.
Time
after time he restrained his anger
and
did not stir up his full wrath. 8

He
remembered that they were but flesh,
a
passing breeze that does not return.
40
How
often they rebelled against him in the desert
and
grieved him in the wasteland!
41
Again
and again they put God to the test;
they
vexed the Holy One of Israel.

They
did not remember his power--
the
day he redeemed them from the oppressor,
43
the
day he displayed his miraculous signs in Egypt,
his
wonders in the region of Zoan.
44
He
turned their rivers to blood;
they
could not drink from their streams.
45
He
sent swarms of flies that devoured them,
and
frogs that devastated them.

He
gave their crops to the grasshopper,
their
produce to the locust.

He
destroyed their vines with hail
and
their sycamore-figs with sleet.

He
gave over their cattle to the hail,
their
livestock to bolts of lightning.

He
unleashed against them his hot anger,
his
wrath, indignation and hostility--
a
band of destroying angels.

He
prepared a path for his anger;
he
did not spare them from death
but
gave them over to the plague.

He
struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,
the
firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham.

But
he brought his people out like a flock;
he
led them like sheep through the desert.

guided them safely, so they were unafraid;
but
the sea engulfed their enemies.

he brought them to the border of his holy land, 9

drove out nations before them

allotted their lands to them as an inheritance;

they put God to the test

unreliable as a faulty bow.

angered him with their high places;

aroused his jealousy with their idols.

God heard them, he was very angry;

rejected Israel completely.

abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh,
the
tent he had set up among men.

He
sent the ark of his might into captivity,
his
splendor into the hands of the enemy.

He
gave his people over to the sword;
he
was very angry with his inheritance.

Fire
consumed their young men,
and
their maidens had no wedding songs;
64
their
priests were put to the sword,
and
their widows could not weep.

Then
the Lord awoke as from sleep,
as
a man wakes from the stupor of wine.

beat back his enemies;

put them to everlasting shame.

he rejected the tents of Joseph,

did not choose the tribe of Ephraim;

the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.

to deprive the innocent of justice.

TESTAMENT:

So
Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought
together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the Tent.
25
Then
the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of
the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders.
When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do
so again. B
26
However,
two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp.
They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the Tent.
Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp.
27
A
young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying
in the camp."
28
Joshua
son of Nun, who had been Moses' aide since youth, spoke up and said,
"Moses, my lord, stop them!"
29
But
Moses replied, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the
LORD's people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on
them!" 30
Then
Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.
31
Now
a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It
brought them C
down all around the camp to about three feet D
above the ground, as far as a day's walk in any direction. 32
All
that day and night and all the next day the people went out and
gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. E
Then they spread them out all around the camp. 33
But
while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be
consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he
struck them with a severe plague. 34
Therefore
the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, F
because there they buried the people who had craved other food.
35
From
Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

Miriam
and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife,
for he had married a Cushite. 2
"Has
the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he
also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this.
3
(Now
Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face
of the earth.)
4
At
once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the
Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came
out.
5
Then
the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to
the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped
forward,
"When
a prophet of the LORD is among you,
I
reveal myself to him in visions,
I
speak to him in dreams.
7
But this is not true of my servant Moses;
he
is faithful in all my house.
8
With him I speak face to face,
clearly
and not in riddles;
he
sees the form of the LORD.
Why
then were you not afraid
to
speak against my servant Moses?"
9
The
anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them.
10
When
the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam--leprous, A
like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy; 11
and
he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the
sin we have so foolishly committed. 12
Do
not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb
with its flesh half eaten away."
13
So
Moses cried out to the LORD, "O God, please heal her!"
14
The
LORD replied to Moses, "If
her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace
for seven days?
Confine her outside the camp for seven days;
after that she can be brought back."
15
So
Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people
did not move on till she was brought back.
16
After
that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran.

The
LORD said to Moses, 2
"Send
some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the
Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders."
3
So
at the LORD's command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran.
All of them were leaders of the Israelites. 4
These
are their names: 19
from
the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;
5
from
the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;
6
from
the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
7
from
the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;
8
from
the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea son of Nun;
9
from
the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;
10
from
the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;
11
from
the tribe of Manasseh (a tribe of Joseph), Gaddi son of Susi;
12
from
the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;
13
from
the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;
14
from
the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vophsi;
15
from
the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Maki.
16
These
are the names of the men Moses sent to explore the land. (Moses gave
Hoshea son of Nun the name Joshua.)
17
When
Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, "Go up through the
Negev and on into the hill country. 18
See
what the land is like and whether the people who live there are
strong or weak, few or many. 19
What
kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns
do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified? 20
How
is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do
your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land." (It was
the season for the first ripe grapes.)
21
So
they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as
Rehob, toward Lebo A
Hamath. 22
They
went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai
and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built
seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) 23
When
they reached the Valley of Eshcol, B
they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them
carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and
figs. 24
That
place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of
grapes the Israelites cut off there. 25
At
the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.
26
They
came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at
Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the
whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land. 27
They
gave Moses this account: "We went into the land to which you
sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. 28
But
the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified
and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. 29
The
Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites
live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and
along the Jordan." 20
30
Then
Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go
up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."
31
But
the men who had gone up with him said, "We can't attack those
people; they are stronger than we are." 32
And
they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had
explored. They said, "The land we explored devours those living
in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. 33
We
saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the
Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked
the same to them." 21

While
they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and
gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take
it; this is my body."
23
Then
he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all
drank from it.
24
"This
is my blood of the B
covenant, which is poured out for many,"
he said to them. 25
"I
tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine
until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God."
26
When
they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
27
"You
will all fall away,"
Jesus told them, "for
it is written:
"`I
will strike the shepherd,
and
the sheep will be scattered.'

But
after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."
29
Peter
declared, "Even if all fall away, I will not."
30
"I
tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "today--yes,
tonight--before the rooster crows twice D
you yourself will disown me three times."
31
But
Peter insisted emphatically, "Even if I have to die with you, I
will never disown you." And all the others said the same.
32
They
went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to his disciples,
"Sit
here while I pray."
33
He
took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply
distressed and troubled. 34
"My
soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,"
he said to them. "Stay
here and keep watch."
35
Going
a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible
the hour might pass from him. 36
"Abba,

Father,"
he said, "everything
is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but
what you will."
37
Then
he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Simon,"
he said to Peter, "are
you asleep?
Could
you not keep watch for one hour?
38
Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak."
39
Once
more he went away and prayed the same thing. 40
When
he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were
heavy. They did not know what to say to him.
41
Returning
the third time, he said to them, "Are
you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look, the
Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42
Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!"
43
Just
as he was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared. With him was
a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief 22
priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.
44
Now
the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is
the man; arrest him and lead him away under guard." 45
Going
at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Rabbi!" and kissed him. 46
The
men seized Jesus and arrested him. 47
Then
one of those standing near drew his sword and struck the servant of
the high priest, cutting off his ear.
48
"Am

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
