whose walk is blameless

who does what is righteous,

speaks the truth from his heart

casts no slur on his fellowman,

who
despises a vile man
but
honors those who fear the LORD,

keeps his oath

heart is stirred by a noble theme

I recite my verses for the king;

give thanks to you, O God,
we
give thanks, for your Name is near;

tell of your wonderful deeds.

say, "I
choose the appointed time;

is I who judge uprightly.

is I who hold its pillars firm.

To
the arrogant I say,
`Boast
no more,'
and
to the wicked,
`Do
not lift up your horns.

not lift your horns against heaven;
do

Give
thanks to the LORD, call on his name;
make
known among the nations what he has done.

Sing
to him, sing praise to him;
tell
of all his wonderful acts.

Glory
in his holy name;
let
the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Look
to the LORD and his strength;
seek
his face always.
5
Remember
the wonders he has done,
his
miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,

O
descendants of Abraham his servant,
O
sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7
He
is the LORD our God;
his
judgments are in all the earth.

He
remembers his covenant forever,
the
word he commanded, for a thousand generations,

the
covenant he made with Abraham,

oath he swore to Isaac.

He
confirmed it to Jacob as a decree,
to
Israel as an everlasting covenant:

"To
you I will give the land of Canaan

the portion you will inherit."

they were but few in number,

indeed, and strangers in it,

wandered from nation to nation,

allowed no one to oppress them;

Israel entered Egypt;

lived as an alien in the land of Ham.

LORD made his people very fruitful;

made them too numerous for their foes,

hearts he turned to hate his people,

conspire against his servants.

He
sent Moses his servant,
and
Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27They
performed his miraculous signs among them,
his
wonders in the land of Ham.

He
sent darkness and made the land dark--
for
had they not rebelled against his words?

He
turned their waters into blood,
causing
their fish to die.

Their
land teemed with frogs,
which
went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.

spoke, and there came swarms of flies,

gnats throughout their country.

turned their rain into hail,

David
sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him
from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2
He
said:
"The
LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
3
my
God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my
shield and the horn A
of my salvation.
He
is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior--
from
violent men you save me.
4
I
call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and
I am saved from my enemies.
5
"The
waves of death swirled about me;
the
torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
6
The
cords of the grave B
coiled around me;
the
snares of death confronted me.
7
In
my distress I called to the LORD;
I
called out to my God.
From
his temple he heard my voice;
my
cry came to his ears.
8
"The
earth trembled and quaked,
the
foundations of the heavens C

trembled because he was angry.

Smoke
rose from his nostrils;

fire came from his mouth,

confronted me in the day of my disaster,

the LORD was my support.

brought me out into a spacious place;

rescued me because he delighted in me.

I have kept the ways of the LORD;

his laws are before me;

your help I can advance against a troop

is God who arms me with strength

I destroyed my foes.

cried for help, but there was no one to save them--

the LORD, but he did not answer.

beat them as fine as the dust of the earth;

pounded and trampled them like mud in the streets.

have preserved me as the head of nations.
People
I did not know are subject to me,

and
foreigners come cringing to me;
as
soon as they hear me, they obey me.

They
all lose heart;

come trembling

their strongholds.

"The
LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock!
Exalted
be God, the Rock, my Savior!
48
He
is the God who avenges me,
who
puts the nations under me,

who
sets me free from my enemies.
You
exalted me above my foes;
from
violent men you rescued me.

Therefore
I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations;
I
will sing praises to your name.
51
He
gives his king great victories;
he
shows unfailing kindness to his anointed,
to
David and his descendants forever."

These
are the last words of David:
"The
oracle of David son of Jesse,
the
man anointed by the God of Jacob,
Israel's
singer of songs A:

"The
Spirit of the LORD spoke through me;
his
word was on my tongue.
3
The
God of Israel spoke,
the
Rock of Israel said to me:
`When
one rules over men in righteousness,
when
he rules in the fear of God,
4
he is like the light of morning at sunrise
on
a cloudless morning,
like
the brightness after rain
that
brings the grass from the earth.'
5
"Is
not my house right with God?
Has
he not made with me an everlasting covenant,
arranged
and secured in every part?
Will
he not bring to fruition my salvation
and
grant me my every desire?
6
But
evil men are all to be cast aside like thorns,
which
are not gathered with the hand.
7
Whoever
touches thorns
uses
a tool of iron or the shaft of a spear;
they
are burned up where they lie."

These
are the names of David's mighty men:
he
oracle of the man exalted by the Most High, 15
he
raised his spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed D
in one encounter.
9
Next
to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three
mighty men, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines
gathered at Pas Dammim E
for battle. Then the men of Israel retreated, 10
but
he stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand
grew tired and froze to the sword. The LORD brought about a great
victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip
the dead.
11
Next
to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines
banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils,
Israel's troops fled from them. 12
But
Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and
struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great
victory.
13
During
harvest time, three of the thirty chief men came down to David at the
cave of Adullam, while a band of Philistines was encamped in the
Valley of Rephaim. 14
At
that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison
was at Bethlehem.
15
David
longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a
drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!" 16
So
the three mighty men broke through the Philistine lines, drew water
from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to
David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before
the LORD.
17
"Far
be it from me, O LORD, to do this!" he said. "Is it not the
blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?" And David
would not drink it. 16
Such were the exploits of the three mighty men.
18Abishai
the brother of Joab son of Zeruiah was chief of the Three. F
He raised his spear against three hundred men, whom he killed, and so
he became as famous as the Three. 19
Was
he not held in greater honor than the Three? He became their
commander, even though he was not included among them.
20
Benaiah
son of Jehoiada was a valiant fighter from Kabzeel, who performed
great exploits. He struck down two of Moab's best men. He also went
down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. 21
And
he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in
his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear
from the Egyptian's hand and killed him with his own spear. 22
Such
were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he too was as famous as
the three mighty men.
23
He
was held in greater honor than any of the Thirty, but he was not
included among the Three. And David put him in charge of his
bodyguard. 17

the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2
Suddenly
a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and
filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3
They
saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest
on each of them. 4
All
of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues A
as the Spirit enabled them.
5
Now
there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation
under heaven. 6
When
they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because
each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7
Utterly
amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking
Galileans? 8
Then
how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? 9
Parthians,
Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia,
Pontus and Asia, 10
Phrygia
and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors
from Rome 11
(both
Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs--we hear them
declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!" 12
Amazed
and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"
13
Some,
however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much
wine. B"
14
Then
Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the
crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me
explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15
These
men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning! 16
No,
this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 18
17
"`In
the last days, God says,
I
will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your
sons and daughters will prophesy,
your
young men will see visions,
your
old men will dream dreams.
18
Even
on my servants, both men and women,
I
will pour out my Spirit in those days,
and
they will prophesy.
19
I
will show wonders in the heaven above
and
signs on the earth below,
blood
and fire and billows of smoke.
20
The
sun will be turned to darkness
and
the moon to blood
before
the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21
And
everyone who calls
on
the name of the Lord will be saved.'

"Men
of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by
God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you
through him, as you yourselves know.

This
man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge;
and you, with the help of wicked men,

put
him to death by nailing him to the cross.
24
But
God raised him from the

dead,
freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for
death to keep its hold on him.

David
said about him:
"`I
saw the Lord always before me.
Because
he is at my right hand,
I
will not be shaken.

Therefore
my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my
body also will live in hope,
27
because
you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor
will you let your Holy One see decay.

You
have made known to me the paths of life;
you
will fill me with joy in your presence.'

"Brothers,
I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was
buried, and his tomb is here to this day. 30
But
he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he
would place one of his descendants on his throne.
31
Seeing
what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, F
that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.
32
God
has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
33
Exalted
to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the
promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. 34
For
David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, 20
"`The
Lord said to my Lord:
"Sit
at my right hand
35
until
I make your enemies
a
footstool for your feet."'

"Therefore
let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you
crucified, both Lord and Christ."

When
the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter
and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

Peter
replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name
of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39
The
promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for
all whom the Lord our God will call."
40
With
many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save
yourselves from this corrupt generation." 41
Those
who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were
added to their number that day.
42
They
devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43
Everyone
was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done
by the apostles. 44
All
the believers were together and had everything in common. 45
Selling
their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46
Every
day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke
bread in their homes and 21
ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47
praising
God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to
their number daily those who were being saved. 22

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." H
