love you, O LORD, my strength.

The
LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my
God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
He
is my shield and the horn A
of my salvation, my stronghold.
3
I
call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise,
and
I am saved from my enemies.
4
The
cords of death entangled me;
the
torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5
The
cords of the grave B
coiled around me;
the
snares of death confronted me.
6
In
my distress I called to the LORD;
I
cried to my God for help.
From
his temple he heard my voice;
my
cry came before him, into his ears.

The
earth trembled and quaked,
and

Smoke

reached down from on high and took hold of me;

drew me out of deep waters.

He
rescued me from my powerful enemy,

my foes, who were too strong for me.

They
confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but
the LORD was my support.

brought me out into a spacious place;

rescued me because he delighted in me.

The
LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness;
according
to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.

For
I have kept the ways of the LORD;
I
have not done evil by turning from my God.

All
his laws are before me;

have not turned away from his decrees.

have been blameless before him

have kept myself from sin.

The
LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness,

is the LORD, and most worthy of praise,

the city of our God, his holy mountain.

is beautiful in its loftiness,

joy of the whole earth.

God
is in her citadels;
he
has shown himself to be her fortress.

When
the kings joined forces,
when
they advanced together,

they
saw her and were astounded;

1
O
my people, hear my teaching;
listen
to the words of my mouth.
2
I
will open my mouth in parables,
I
will utter hidden things, things from of old--
3
what
we have heard and known,
what
our fathers have told us.
4
We
will not hide them from their children;
we
will tell the next generation
the
praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,
his
power, and the wonders he has done.
5
He
decreed statutes for Jacob
and
established the law in Israel,
which
he commanded our forefathers
to
teach their children,
6
so
the next generation would know them,
even
the children yet to be born,
and
they in turn would tell their children.
7
Then
they would put their trust in God
and
would not forget his deeds
but
would keep his commands.
8
They
would not be like their forefathers--
a
stubborn and rebellious generation,
whose
hearts were not loyal to God,
whose
spirits were not faithful to him.
9
The
men of Ephraim, though armed with bows,
turned
back on the day of battle;
10
they
did not keep God's covenant
and
refused to live by his law.
11
They
forgot what he had done,
the
wonders he had shown them.

He
did miracles in the sight of their fathers
in
the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
13
He
divided the sea and led them through;
he
made the water stand firm like a wall.

He
guided them with the cloud by day

with light from the fire all night.

split the rocks in the desert

gave them water as abundant as the seas;

they continued to sin against him,
rebelling

willfully put God to the test
by
demanding the food they craved.

spoke against God, saying,
"Can
God spread a table in the desert?

When
he struck the rock, water gushed out,
and
streams flowed abundantly.
But
can he also give us food?
Can
he supply meat for his people?"

When
the LORD heard them, he was very angry;
his
fire broke out against Jacob,
and
his wrath rose against Israel,
22
for
they did not believe in God
or
trust in his deliverance.
23
Yet
he gave a command to the skies above
and
opened the doors of the heavens;
24
he
rained down manna for the people to eat, 7
he
gave them the grain of heaven.
25
Men
ate the bread of angels;
he
sent them all the food they could eat.
26
He
let loose the east wind from the heavens
and
led forth the south wind by his power.
27
He
rained meat down on them like dust,
flying
birds like sand on the seashore.

He
made them come down inside their camp,
all
around their tents.

They
ate till they had more than enough,
for
he had given them what they craved.

But
before they turned from the food they craved,
even
while it was still in their mouths,

God's
anger rose against them;
he
put to death the sturdiest among them,
cutting
down the young men of Israel.

In
spite of all this, they kept on sinning;
in
spite of his wonders, they did not believe.

So
he ended their days in futility
and
their years in terror.
34
Whenever
God slew them, they would seek him;
they
eagerly turned to him again.

They
remembered that God was their Rock,
that
God Most High was their Redeemer.
36
But
then they would flatter him with their mouths,
lying
to him with their tongues;
37
their
hearts were not loyal to him,
they
were not faithful to his covenant.
38
Yet
he was merciful;
he
forgave their iniquities
and
did not destroy them.
Time
after time he restrained his anger
and
did not stir up his full wrath. 8

He
remembered that they were but flesh,
a
passing breeze that does not return.
40
How
often they rebelled against him in the desert
and
grieved him in the wasteland!

Again
and again they put God to the test;
they
vexed the Holy One of Israel.

They
did not remember his power--
the
day he redeemed them from the oppressor,
43
the
day he displayed his miraculous signs in Egypt,
his
wonders in the region of Zoan.
44
He
turned their rivers to blood;
they
could not drink from their streams.
45
He
sent swarms of flies that devoured them,
and
frogs that devastated them.

He
gave their crops to the grasshopper,

produce to the locust.

He
destroyed their vines with hail
and
their sycamore-figs with sleet.

gave over their cattle to the hail,

livestock to bolts of lightning.

unleashed against them his hot anger,

wrath, indignation and hostility--

band of destroying angels.

prepared a path for his anger;

did not spare them from death

struck down all the firstborn of Egypt,

he brought his people out like a flock;

tent he had set up among men.

sent the ark of his might into captivity,

splendor into the hands of the enemy.

He
gave his people over to the sword;
he
was very angry with his inheritance.

Fire
consumed their young men,
and
their maidens had no wedding songs;

their
priests were put to the sword,

their widows could not weep.

the Lord awoke as from sleep,

a man wakes from the stupor of wine.

beat back his enemies;

Now
Sarai, Abram's wife, had borne him no children. But she had an
Egyptian maidservant named Hagar; 2
so
she said to Abram, "The LORD has kept me from having children.
Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through
her."
Abram
agreed to what Sarai said. 3
So
after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took
her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his
wife. 4
He
slept with Hagar, and she conceived.
When
she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. 5
Then
Sarai said to Abram, "You are responsible for the wrong I am
suffering. I put my servant in your arms, and now that she knows she
is pregnant, she despises me. May the LORD judge between you and me."
6
"Your
servant is in your hands," Abram said. "Do with her
whatever you think best." Then Sarai mistreated Hagar; so she
fled from her.
7
The
angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the
spring that is beside the road to Shur. 8
And
he said, "Hagar,
servant of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?"
"I'm
running away from my mistress Sarai," she answered.
9
Then
the angel of the LORD told her, "Go
back to your mistress and submit to her."
10
The
angel added, "I
will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to
count."
11
The
angel of the LORD also said to her:
"You
are now with child
and
you will have a son.
You
shall name him Ishmael, A
for
the LORD has heard of your misery.
12
He
will be a wild donkey of a man;
his
hand will be against everyone
and
everyone's hand against him,
and
he will live in hostility
toward

all his brothers."

She
gave this name to the LORD who spoke to her: "You
are the God who sees me,"
for she said, "I
have now seen

One who sees me."

is why the well was called Beer Lahai Roi D;
it is still there, between Kadesh and Bered.

So
Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son
she had borne. 16

was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael. 18

When
Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said,
"I
am God Almighty A;
walk before me and be blameless.
2
I
will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase
your numbers."

Abram
fell facedown, and God said to him, 4
"As
for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many
nations.
5
No
longer will you be called Abram B;
your name will be Abraham,
C
for I have made you a father of many nations.
6
I
will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings
will come from you.
7
I
will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and
you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be
your God and the God of your descendants after you.
8
The
whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an
everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I
will be their God."
9
Then
God said to Abraham, "As
for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after
you for the generations to come.
10
This
is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant
you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
11
You
are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant
between me and you.
12
For
the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old
must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought
with money from a foreigner--those who are not your offspring.
13
Whether
born in your household or bought with your money, they must be
circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting
covenant.
14
Any
uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will
be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."
15
God
also said to Abraham, "As
for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name
will be Sarah.
16
I
will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless
her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will
come from her."
17
Abraham
fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be
born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age
of ninety?" 18
And
Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your
blessing!"
19
Then
God said, "Yes,
but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac.

I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for
his descendants after him.
20
And
as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will
make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be
the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.
21
But
my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you
by this time next year."
22
When
he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.
23
On
that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his
household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and
circumcised them, as God told him. 24
Abraham
was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, 25
and
his son Ishmael was thirteen; 19
26
Abraham
and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that same day. 27
And
every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his
household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.

The
LORD appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was
sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2
Abraham
looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he
hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to
the ground.
3
He
said, "If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, A
do not pass your servant by.
4
Let
a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and
rest under this tree. 5
Let
me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on
your way--now that you have come to your servant."
"Very
well," they answered, "do as you say."
6
So
Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. "Quick," he said,
"get three seahs B
of fine flour and knead it and bake some bread."
7
Then
he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to
a servant, who hurried to prepare it. 8
He
then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared,
and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a
tree.
9
"Where
is your wife Sarah?" they asked him.
"There,
in the tent," he said.
10
Then
the LORD C
said, "I
will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your
wife will have a son."
Now
Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind
him.
11Abraham
and Sarah were already old and well advanced in years, and Sarah was
past the age of childbearing.
12
So
Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out
and my master D
is old, will I now have this pleasure?"
13
Then
the LORD said to Abraham, "Why
did Sarah laugh and say, `Will I really have a child, now that I am
old?'
14
Is
anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed
time next year and Sarah will have a son."
15
Sarah
was afraid, so she lied and said, "I did not laugh."

"Be
careful not to do your `acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen
by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in
heaven.
2
"So
when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the
hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by
men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
3
But
when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your
right hand is doing,
4
so
that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is
done in secret, will reward you.
5
"And
when you pray,
do
not be like the hypocrites,
for
they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street
corners to be seen by men.
I
tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.
6
But
when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your
Father,
who is unseen. Then
your Father,
who
sees what is done in secret,
will
reward you.

And
when you pray,
do
not keep on babbling like pagans,
for
they think they will be heard because of their many words.

not be like them,
for
your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

For
where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body
will be full of light.

But
if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If
then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

"No
one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the
other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
