oracle is within my heart
concerning
the sinfulness of the wicked: A

is no fear of God
before
his eyes.

in his own eyes he flatters himself

much to detect or hate his sin.

words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful;

has ceased to be wise and to do good.

Even
on his bed he plots evil;
he
commits himself to a sinful course

does not reject what is wrong.

Your
love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,

Your
righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

the LORD brought back the captives to A

Our
mouths were filled with laughter,
our
tongues with songs of joy.

it was said among the nations,
"The
LORD has done great things for them."

The
LORD has done great things for us,
and
we are filled with joy.

Restore
our fortunes, C

like
streams in the Negev.

Those
who sow in tears
will
reap with songs of joy.

He
who goes out weeping,
carrying
seed to sow,

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor,
if
you have struck hands in pledge for another,

if
you have been trapped by what you said,
ensnared
by the words of your mouth,

then
do this, my son, to free yourself,
since
you have fallen into your neighbor's hands:
Go
and humble yourself;
press
your plea with your neighbor!
4
Allow
no sleep to your eyes,
no
slumber to your eyelids.
5
Free
yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
like
a bird from the snare of the fowler.
6
Go
to the ant, you sluggard;
consider
its ways and be wise!

It
has no commander,
no
overseer or ruler,

yet
it stores its provisions in summer

gathers its food at harvest.

How
long will you lie there, you sluggard?

haughty
eyes,
a
lying tongue,
hands
that shed innocent blood,

heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet
that are quick to rush into evil,

a
false witness who pours out lies
and
a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
20
My
son, keep your father's commands
and
do not forsake your mother's teaching.
21
Bind
them upon your heart forever;
fasten
them around your neck.
22
When
you walk, they will guide you;
when
you sleep, they will watch over you;
when
you awake, they will speak to you.
23
For
these commands are a lamp,
this
teaching is a light,
and
the corrections of discipline
are
the way to life,
24
keeping
you from the immoral woman,
from
the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.
25
Do
not lust in your heart after her beauty
or
let her captivate you with her eyes,
26
for
the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread,
and
the adulteress preys upon your very life.
27
Can
a man scoop fire into his lap
without
his clothes being burned?
28
Can
a man walk on hot coals
without
his feet being scorched?
29
So
is he who sleeps with another man's wife; 9
no
one who touches her will go unpunished.
30
Men
do not despise a thief if he steals
to
satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
31
Yet
if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold,
though
it costs him all the wealth of his house.
32
But
a man who commits adultery lacks judgment;
whoever
does so destroys himself.
33
Blows
and disgrace are his lot,
and
his shame will never be wiped away;
34
for
jealousy arouses a husband's fury,
and
he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35
He
will not accept any compensation;
he
will refuse the bribe, however great it is. 10

1
The word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach
and
will rest upon Damascus--
for
the eyes of men and all the tribes of Israel
are
on the LORD-- A
2
and
upon Hamath too, which borders on it,
and
upon Tyre and Sidon, though they are very skillful.
3
Tyre
has built herself a stronghold;
she
has heaped up silver like dust,
and
gold like the dirt of the streets.
4
But
the Lord will take away her possessions
and
destroy her power on the sea,
and
she will be consumed by fire.
5
Ashkelon
will see it and fear;
Gaza
will writhe in agony,
and
Ekron too, for her hope will wither.
Gaza
will lose her king
and
Ashkelon will be deserted.
6
Foreigners
will occupy Ashdod,
and
I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.
7
I
will take the blood from their mouths,
the
forbidden food from between their teeth.
Those
who are left will belong to our God
and
become leaders in Judah,
and
Ekron will be like the Jebusites.
8
But
I will defend my house
against
marauding forces.
Never
again will an oppressor overrun my people, 11
for
now I am keeping watch.

Rejoice
greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout,
Daughter of Jerusalem!
See,
your king B
comes to you,
righteous
and having salvation,
gentle
and riding on a donkey,
on
a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10
I
will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and
the war-horses from Jerusalem,
and
the battle bow will be broken.
He
will proclaim peace to the nations.
His
rule will extend from sea to sea
and
from the River C
to the ends of the earth. D

As
for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
I
will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.
12
Return
to your fortress, O prisoners of hope;
even
now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.
13
I
will bend Judah as I bend my bow
and
fill it with Ephraim.
I
will rouse your sons, O Zion,
against
your sons, O Greece,
and
make you like a warrior's sword. 12

Then
the LORD will appear over them;
his
arrow will flash like lightning.
The
Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet;
he
will march in the storms of the south,
15
and the LORD Almighty will shield them.
They
will destroy
and
overcome with slingstones.
They
will drink and roar as with wine;
they
will be full like a bowl
used
for sprinklingE
the corners of the altar.
16
The
LORD their God will save them on that day
as
the flock of his people.
They
will sparkle in his land
like
jewels in a crown.
17
How
attractive and beautiful they will be!
Grain
will make the young men thrive,
and
new wine the young women. 13

REVELATIONS 17:1 - 18

1
One
of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me,
"Come,
I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on
many waters.
2
With
her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of
the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries."
3
Then
the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a
woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous
names and had seven heads and ten horns. 4
The
woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with
gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand,
filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. 5
This
title was written on her forehead:
MYSTERY
BABYLON
THE GREAT
THE
MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES
AND
OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6
I
saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood
of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
When
I saw her, I was greatly astonished. 7
Then
the angel said to me: "Why
are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman
and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.
8
The
beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will come up out of
the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants of the earth
whose names have not been written in the book of life from the
creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast,
because he once was, now is not, and yet will come.
9
"This
calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on
which the woman sits.
10
They
are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet
come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while.
11
The
beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to
the seven and is going to his destruction.
12
"The
ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom,
but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the
beast.
13
They
have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the
beast.
14
They
will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them
because he is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with him will be
his called, chosen and faithful followers."
15
Then
the angel said to me, "The
waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes,
nations and languages.
16
The
beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will
bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and
burn her with fire.
17
For
God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by
agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until God's words are
fulfilled.
