JANUARY 30

PSALMS: 30, 60, 90, 120, 150

PROVERBS: 30

OLD TESTAMENT: JOSHUA 22:21 - 23:16

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 20:27 - 47

PSALMS: 30

1 I will extol you, LORD, for you have raised me up,

And have not made my foes to rejoice over me.

2 LORD my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me.

3 LORD, you have brought up my soul from She'ol.

You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

4 Sing praise to the LORD, you holy ones of his.

Give thanks to his holy name.

5 For his anger is but for a moment;

His favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may stay for the night,

But joy comes in the morning.

6 As for me, I said in my prosperity, "I shall never be moved."

7 You, LORD, when you favored me, made my mountain to stand strong.

But when you hid your face, I was troubled.

8 I cried to you, LORD.

To the LORD I made supplication:

9 "What profit is there in my destruction, if I go down to the pit?

Shall the dust praise you?

Shall it declare your truth?

10 Hear, LORD, and have mercy on me. LORD, be my helper."

11 You have turned my mourning into dancing for me.

You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness,

12 To the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent.

LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever.

PSALMS: 60

1 God, you have rejected us.

You have broken us down.

You have been angry.

Restore us to you, again.

2 You have made the land tremble.

You have torn it.

Mend its fractures,

For it quakes.

3 You have shown your people hard things.

You have made us drink the wine that makes us stagger.

4 You have given a banner to those who fear you,

That it may be displayed because of the truth.

Selah.

5 So that your beloved may be delivered,

Save with your right hand, and answer us.

6 God has spoken from his sanctuary:

"I will triumph.

I will divide Shekhem,

And measure out the valley of Sukkot.

7 Gil`ad is mine, and Menashsheh is mine.

Efrayim also is the defense of my head.

Yehudah is my scepter.

8 Mo'av is my wash basin.

I will throw my shoe on Edom.

I shout in triumph over Peleshet."

9 Who will bring me into the strong city?

Who has led me to Edom?

10 Haven't you, God, rejected us?

You don't go out with our armies, God.

11 Give us help against the adversary,

For the help of man is vain.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly,

For it is he who will tread down our adversaries.

PSALMS: 90

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place In all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth,

Or ever you had formed the eretz and the world,

Even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

3 You turn man to destruction, saying,

"Return, you children of men."

4 For a thousand years in your sight

Are but as yesterday when it is past,

As a watch in the night.

5 You sweep them away as they sleep.

In the morning they sprout like new grass.

6 In the morning it sprouts and springs up.

By evening, it is withered and dry.

7 For we are consumed in your anger.

We are troubled in your wrath.

8 You have set our iniquities before you,

Our secret sins in the light of your presence.

9 For all our days have passed away in your wrath.

We bring our years to an end as a sigh.

10 The days of our years are seventy,

Or even by reason of strength eighty years;

Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow,

For it passes quickly, and we fly away.

11 Who knows the power of your anger,

Your wrath according to the fear that is due to you?

12 So teach us to number our days,

That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

13 Relent, LORD! How long?

Have compassion on your servants.

14 Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness,

That we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,

For as many years as we have seen evil.

16 Let your work appear to your servants;

Your glory to their children.

17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us;

Establish the work of our hands for us;

Yes, establish the work of our hands.

PSALMS: 120

1 The LORD says to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,

Until I make your enemies your footstool for your feet."

2 The LORD will send forth the rod of your strength out of Tziyon.

Rule in the midst of your enemies.

3 Your people offer themselves willingly in the day of your power,

In holy array.

Out of the womb of the morning,

you have the dew of your youth.

4 The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind:

"You are a Kohen forever in the order of Malki-Tzedek."

5 The Lord is at your right hand.

He will crush kings in the day of his wrath.

6 He will judge among the nations.

He will heap up dead bodies.

He will crush the ruler of the whole eretz.

7 He will drink of the brook in the way;

Therefore will he lift up his head.

PSALMS: 150

1 Deliver me, LORD, from the evil man.

Preserve me from the violent man;

2 Those who devise mischief in their hearts.

They continually gather themselves together for war.

3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent.

Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah.

4 LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked.

Preserve me from the violent men:

Who have determined to trip my feet.

5 The proud have hidden a snare for me,

They have spread the cords of a net by the path.

They have set traps for me. Selah.

6 I said to the LORD, "You are my God."

Listen to the cry of my petitions, LORD.

7 LORD, the Lord, the strength of my yeshu`ah,

You have covered my head in the day of battle.

8 LORD, don't grant the desires of the wicked.

Don't let their evil plans succeed,

or they will become proud.

Selah.

9 As for the head of those who surround me,

Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

10 Let burning coals fall on them.

Let them be thrown into the fire,

Into miry pits, from where they never rise.

11 An evil speaker won't be established in the eretz.

Evil will hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

12 I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted,

And justice for the needy.

13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name.

The upright will dwell in your presence.

PROVERBS: 30

1 The words of Agur the son of Yakeh, the oracle:

The man says to 'Iti'el, To 'Iti'el and Ucal:

2 "Surely I am the most ignorant man,

And don't have a man's understanding.

3 I have not learned wisdom,

Neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.

4 Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended?

Who has gathered the wind in his fists?

Who has bound the waters in his garment?

Who has established all the ends of the eretz? ‘

What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you know?

5 "Every word of God is flawless.

He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

6 Don't you add to his words,

Lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.

7 "Two things I have asked of you;

Don't deny me before I die:

8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies.

Give me neither poverty nor riches.

Feed me with the food that is needful for me;

9 Lest I be full, deny you, and say,

'Who is the LORD?'

Or lest I be poor, and steal,

And so dishonor the name of my God.

10 "Don't slander a servant to his master,

Lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.

11 There is a generation that curses their father,

And doesn't bless their mother.

12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes,

Yet are not washed from their filthiness.

13 There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes!

Their eyelids are lifted up.

14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords,

And their jaws like knives,

To devour the poor from the eretz,

and the needy from among men.

15 "The leach has two daughters:

'Give, give.'

"There are three things that are never satisfied;

Four that don't say, 'Enough:'

16 She'ol, the barren womb;

The eretz that is not satisfied with water;

The fire that doesn't say, 'Enough;'

17 And the eye that mocks at his father,

And scorns obedience to his mother:

The ravens of the valley shall pick it out,

The young eagles shall eat it.

18 "There are three things which are too amazing for me,

Four which I don't understand:

19 The way of an eagle in the air;

The way of a serpent on a rock;

The way of a ship in the midst of the sea;

And the way of a man with a maiden.

20 So is the way of an adulterous woman:

She eats and wipes her mouth,

And says, 'I have done nothing wrong.'

21 "For three things the eretz tremble,

And under four, it can't bear up:

22 For a servant when he is king;

A fool when he is filled with food;

23 For an unloved woman when she is married;

And a handmaid who is heir to her mistress.

24 "There are four things which are little on the eretz,

But they are exceeding wise:

25 The ants are not a strong people,

Yet they provide their food in the summer;

26 The conies are but a feeble folk,

Yet make they their houses in the rocks;

27 The locusts have no king,

Yet they advance in ranks;

28 You can catch a lizard with your hands,

Yet she is in kings' palaces.

29 "There are three things which are stately in their march,

Four which are stately in going:

30 The lion, which is mightiest among animals,

And doesn't turn away for any;

31 The greyhound, the male goat also;

And the king against whom there is no rising up.

32 "If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself,

Or if you have thought evil,

Put your hand over your mouth.

33 For as the churning of milk brings forth butter,

And the wringing of the nose brings forth blood;

So the forcing of wrath brings forth strife."

OLD TESTAMENT: JOSHUA 22:21 - 23:16

22:21 Then the children of Re'uven and the children of Gad and the half-tribe of Menashsheh answered, and spoke to the heads of the thousands of Yisra'el, 22 The Mighty One, God, the LORD, the Mighty One, God, the LORD, he knows; and Yisra'el he shall know: if it be in rebellion, or if in trespass against the LORD (don't save us this day,) 23 that we have built us an altar to turn away from following the LORD; or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meal-offering, or if to offer sacrifices of peace-offerings thereon, let the LORD himself require it; 24 and if we have not [rather] out of carefulness done this, [and] of purpose, saying, In time to come your children might speak to our children, saying, What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Yisra'el? 25 for the LORD has made the Yarden a border between us and you, you children of Re'uven and children of Gad; you have no portion in the LORD: so might your children make our children cease from fearing the LORD. 26 Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice: 27  but it shall be a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, that we may do the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not tell our children in time to come, You have no portion in the LORD. 28 Therefore said we, It shall be, when they so tell us or to our generations in time to come, that we shall say, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice; but it is a witness between us and you. 29 Far be it from us that we should rebel against the LORD, and turn away this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt-offering, for meal-offering, or for sacrifice, besides the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tent. 30 When Pinechas the Kohen, and the princes of the congregation, even the heads of the thousands of Yisra'el that were with him, heard the words that the children of Re'uven and the children of Gad and the children of Menashsheh spoke, it pleased them well. 31 Pinechas the son of El`azar the Kohen said to the children of Re'uven, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Menashsheh, This day we know that the LORD is in the midst of us, because you have not committed this trespass against the LORD: now have you delivered the children of Yisra'el out of the hand of the LORD. 32 Pinechas the son of El`azar the Kohen, and the princes, returned from the children of Re'uven, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gil`ad, to the land of Kana`an, to the children of Yisra'el, and brought them word again.33 The thing pleased the children of Yisra'el; and the children of Yisra'el blessed God, and spoke no more of going up against them to war, to destroy the land in which the children of Re'uven and the children of Gad lived. 34 The children of Re'uven and the children of Gad called the altar [`Ed]: For, [said they], it is a witness between us that the LORD is God.

23:1 It happened after many days, when the LORD had given rest to Yisra'el from all their enemies round about, and Yehoshua was old and well stricken in years; 2 that Yehoshua called for all Yisra'el, for their Zakenim and for their heads, and for their judges and for their officers, and said to them, I am old and well stricken in years: 3 and you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations because of you; for the LORD your God, he it is that has fought for you. 4 Behold, I have allotted to you these nations that remain, to be an inheritance for your tribes, from the Yarden, with all the nations that I have cut off, even to the great sea toward the going down of the sun 5 The LORD your God, he will thrust them out from before you, and drive them from out of your sight; and you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God spoke to you. 6 Therefore be you very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moshe, that you not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left;

7  that you not come among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear [by them], neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them; 8 but cleave to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day. 9 For the LORD has driven out from before you great nations and strong: but as for you, no man has stood before you to this day. 10 One man of you shall chase a thousand; for the LORD your God, he it is who fights for you, as he spoke to you. 11 Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God.

12 Else if you do at all go back, and cleave to the remnant of these nations, even these who remain among you, and make marriages with them, and go in to them, and they to you; 13 know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive these nations from out of your sight; but they shall be a snare and a trap to you, and a scourge in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you. 14 Behold, this day I am going the way of all the eretz: and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all are happen to you, not one thing has failed of it 15 It shall happen, that as all the good things are come on you of which the LORD your God spoke to you, so will the LORD bring on you all the evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you. 16 When you disobey the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow down yourselves to them; then will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given to you.

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 20:27 - 47

27 Some of the Tzedukim came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.

28 They asked him, "Teacher, Moshe wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother.

29 There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.

30 The second took her as wife, and he died childless.

31 The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.

32 Afterward the woman also died.

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife."

34 Yeshua said to them, "The sons of this age marry, and are given in marriage.

35 But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage.

36 For neither can they die any more, for they are like the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

37  But that the dead are raised, even Moshe showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Avraham, the God of Yitzchak, and the God of Ya`akov.'

38 Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him."

39 Some of the Sofrim answered, "Teacher, you speak well."

40 They didn't dare to ask him any more questions.

41 He said to them, "Why do they say that the Messiah is David's son?

42 David himself says in the book of Tehillim, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,

43 Until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet."'

44 "David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?"

45 In the hearing of all the people, he said to his talmidim,

46 "Beware of the Sofrim, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;

47 who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: these will receive greater condemnation."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
