THEinc-HIM Daily Bible Meditation – August 28 – Full Text

Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

AUGUST 28

PSALMS: 28, 58, 88, 118, 148

PROVERBS: 28

OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 35:1 - 36:38

NEW TESTAMENT: JAMES 1:1 - 18

PSALMS: 28

1 To you, LORD, I call.

My rock, don't be deaf to me;

Lest, if you are silent to me,

I would become like those who go down into the pit.

2 Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry to you,

When I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.

3 Don't draw me away with the wicked,

With the workers of iniquity who speak shalom with their neighbors,

But mischief is in their hearts.

4 Give them according to their work,

and according to the wickedness of their doings.

Give them according to the operation of their hands.

Bring back on them what they deserve.

5 Because they don't regard the works of the LORD,

Nor the operation of his hands,

He will break them down and not build them up.

6 Blessed be the LORD,

Because he has heard the voice of my petitions.

7  The LORD is my strength and my shield.

My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped.

Therefore my heart greatly rejoices.

With my song I will thank him.

8 The LORD is their strength.

He is a stronghold of salvation to his anointed.

9 Save your people, and bless your inheritance.

Be their shepherd also, and bear them up forever.

PSALMS: 58

1 Do you indeed speak righteousness, silent ones?

Do you judge blamelessly, you sons of men?

2 No, in your heart you plot injustice.

You measure out the violence of your hands in the eretz.

3 The wicked go astray from the womb.

They are wayward as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

4 Their poison is like the poison of a snake;

Like a deaf cobra that stops its ear,

5 Which doesn't listen to the voice of charmers,

No matter how skillful the charmer may be.

6Break their teeth, God, in their mouth.

Break out the great teeth of the young lions, LORD.

7 Let them vanish as water that flows away.

When they draw the bow, let their arrows be made blunt.

8 Let them be as a snail which melts and passes away,

Like the stillborn child, who has not seen the sun.

9 Before your pots can feel the thorns,

He will sweep away, the green and the burning alike.

10 The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance.

He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked;

11 So that men shall say, "Most assuredly there is a reward for the righteous.

Most assuredly there is a God who judges the eretz."

PSALMS: 88

1 LORD, the God of my salvation,

I have cried day and night before you.

2 Let my prayer enter into your presence.

Turn your ear to my cry.

3 For my soul is full of troubles.

My life draws near to She'ol.

4 I am counted among those who go down into the pit.

I am like a man who has no help,

5 Set apart among the dead,

Like the slain who lie in the grave,

Whom you remember no more.

They are cut off from your hand.

6 You have laid me in the lowest pit,

In the darkest depths.

7  Your wrath lies heavily on me.

You have afflicted me with all your waves.

Selah.

8 You have taken my friends from me.

You have made me an abomination to them.

I am confined, and I can't escape.

9 My eyes are dim from grief.

I have called on you daily, LORD.

I have spread out my hands to you.

10 Do you show wonders to the dead?

Do the dead rise up and praise you? Selah.

11 Is your loving kindness declared in the grave?

Or your faithfulness in Destruction?

12 Are your wonders made known in the dark?

Or your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But to you, LORD, I have cried.

In the morning, my prayer comes before you.

14 LORD, why do you reject my soul?

Why do you hide your face from me?

15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up.

While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.

16 Your fierce wrath has gone over me.

Your terrors have cut me off.

17 They came around me like water all day long.

They completely engulfed me.

18 You have put lover and friend far from me,

And my friends into darkness.

PSALMS: 148

1 Praise the LORD!

Praise the LORD from the heavens!

Praise him in the heights!

2 Praise him, all his angels!

Praise him, all his host!

3 Praise him, sun and moon!

Praise him, all you shining stars!

4 Praise him, you heavens of heavens,

You waters that are above the heavens.

5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, ‘

For he commanded, and they were created.

6 He has also established them forever and ever.

He has made a decree which will not pass away.

7 Praise the LORD from the eretz,

You great sea creatures, and all depths!

8 Lightning and hail, snow and clouds;

Stormy wind, fulfilling his word;

9 Mountains and all hills;

Fruit trees and all cedars;

10 Wild animals and all cattle;

Small creatures and flying birds;

11 Kings of the eretz and all peoples;

Princes and all judges of the eretz;

12 Both young men and maidens;

Old men and children:

13 Let them praise the name of the LORD,

For his name alone is exalted.

His glory is above the eretz and the heavens.

14 He has lifted up the horn of his people,

The praise of all his holy ones;

Even of the children of Yisra'el, a people near to him.

Praise the LORD!

PROVERBS: 28

1 The wicked flee when no one pursues;

But the righteous are as bold as a lion.

2 In rebellion, a land has many rulers,

But order is maintained by a man of understanding and knowledge.

3 A needy man who oppresses the poor

Is like a driving rain which leaves no crops.

4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked;

But those who keep the law contend with them.

5 Evil men don't understand justice;

But those who seek the LORD understand it fully.

6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity,

Than he who is perverse in his ways, and he is rich.

7 Whoever keeps the law is a wise son;

But he who is a companion of gluttons shames his father.

8 He who increases his wealth by excessive interest

Gathers it for one who has pity on the poor.

9 He who turns away his ear from hearing the law,

Even his prayer is an abomination.

10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way,

He will fall into his own trap;

But the blameless will inherit good.

11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes;

But the poor who has understanding sees through him.

12 When the righteous triumph, there is great glory;

But when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.

13 He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper,

But whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

14 Blessed is the man who always fears;

But one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

15 As a roaring lion or a charging bear,

So is a wicked ruler over helpless people.

16 The ruler who lacks judgment is a great tyrant.

One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days.

17 A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death;

No one will support him.

18 Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe;

But one with perverse ways will fall suddenly.

19 One who works his land will have an abundance of food;

But one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

20 A faithful man is rich with blessings;

But one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished.

21 To show partiality is not good;

Yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread.

22 A stingy man hurries after riches,

And doesn't know that poverty waits for him.

23 One who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor

Than one who flatters with the tongue.

24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says,

"It's not wrong."

He is a partner with a destroyer.

25 One who is greedy stirs up strife;

But one who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

26 One who trusts in himself is a fool;

But one who walks in wisdom, he is kept safe.

27 One who gives to the poor has no lack;

But one who closes his eyes will have many curses.

28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves;

But when they perish, the righteous thrive.

OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 35:1 - 36:38

35:1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, set your face against Mount Se`ir, and prophesy against it, 3 and tell it, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Mount Se`ir, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you a desolation and an astonishment. 4 I will lay your cities waste, and you shall be desolate; and you shall know that I am the LORD. 5 Because you have had a perpetual enmity, and have given over the children of Yisra'el to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end; 6 therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I will prepare you to blood, and blood shall pursue you: since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you. 7 Thus will I make Mount Se`ir an astonishment and a desolation; and I will cut off from it him who passes through and him who returns. 8 I will fill its mountains with its slain: in your hills and in your valleys and in all your watercourses shall they fall who are slain with the sword. 9 I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited; and you shall know that I am the LORD. 10 Because you have said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there: 11 therefore, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I will do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have shown out of your hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I shall judge you. 12 You shall know that I, the LORD, have heard all your insults which you have spoken against the mountains of Yisra'el, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to devour. 13 You have magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard it. 14 Thus says the Lord GOD: When the whole eretz rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15 As you did rejoice over the inheritance of the house of Yisra'el, because it was desolate, so will I do to you: you shall be desolate, Mount Se`ir, and all Edom, even all of it; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

36:1 You, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Yisra'el, and say, You mountains of Yisra'el, hear the word of the LORD. 2 Thus says the Lord GOD: Because the enemy has said against you, Aha! and, The ancient high places are ours in possession; 3therefore prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Because, even because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that you might be a possession to the residue of the nations, and you are taken up in the lips of talkers, and the evil report of the people; 4 therefore, you mountains of Yisra'el, hear the word of the Lord GOD: Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the cities that are forsaken, which are become a prey and derision to the residue of the nations that are round about; 5 therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.

6 Therefore prophesy concerning Eretz-Yisra'el, and tell the mountains and to the hills, to the watercourses and to the valleys, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my wrath, because you have borne the shame of the nations:7 therefore thus says the Lord GOD: I have sworn, [saying], Surely the nations that are round about you, they shall bear their shame. 8 But you, mountains of Yisra'el, you shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Yisra'el; for they are at hand to come. 9 For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn into you, and you shall be tilled and sown; 10and I will multiply men on you, all the house of Yisra'el, even all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited, and the waste places shall be built; 11 and I will multiply on you man and animal; and they shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited after your former estate, and will do better [to you] than at your beginnings: and you shall know that I am the LORD. 12 Yes, I will cause men to walk on you, even my people Yisra'el; and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no more henceforth bereave them of children. 13 Thus says the Lord GOD: Because they say to you, You [land] are a devourer of men, and have been a bereaver of your nation; 14 therefore you shall devour men no more, neither bereave your nation any more, says the Lord GOD; 15 neither will I let you hear any more the shame of the nations, neither shall you bear the reproach of the peoples any more, neither shall you cause your nation to stumble any more, says the Lord GOD. 16 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 17 Son of man, when the house of Yisra'el lived in their own land, they defiled it by their way and by their doings: their way before me was as the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity. 18 Therefore I poured out my wrath on them for the blood which they had poured out on the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols; 19 and I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them. 20 When they came to the nations, where they went, they profaned my holy name; in that men said of them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land. 21 But I had regard for my holy name, which the house of Yisra'el had profaned among the nations, where they went. 22 Therefore tell the house of Yisra'el, Thus says the Lord GOD: I don't do [this] for your sake, house of Yisra'el, but for my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations, where you went. 23 I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in the midst of them; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. 24 For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my ordinances, and do them. 28 You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will save you from all your uncleanness: and I will call for the grain, and will multiply it, and lay no famine on you. 30 I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that you may receive no more the reproach of famine among the nations. 31 Then shall you remember your evil ways, and your doings that were not good; and you shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. 32 Nor for your sake do I [this], says the Lord GOD, be it known to you: be ashamed and confounded for your ways, house of Yisra'el. 33 Thus says the Lord GOD: In the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be built.

34 The land that was desolate shall be tilled, whereas it was a desolation in the sight of all who passed by. 35 They shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of `Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited. 36 Then the nations that are left round about you shall know that I, the LORD, have built the ruined places, and planted that which was desolate: I, the LORD, have spoken it, and I will do it. 37  Thus says the Lord GOD: For this, moreover, will I be inquired of by the house of Yisra'el, to do it for them: I will increase them with men like a flock. 38 As the flock for sacrifice, as the flock of Yerushalayim in her appointed feasts, so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men; and they shall know that I am the LORD.

NEW TESTAMENT: JAMES 1:1 - 18

1:1 Ya`akov, a servant of God and of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, to the twelve tribes which are in the Diaspora: Greetings.

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,

3 Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

4 Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.

7  For let that man not think that he will receive anything from the Lord.

8 He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

9 But let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;

10 and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.

11 For the sun arises with the scorching wind, and withers the grass, and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in his pursuits.

12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

14 But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

16 Don't be deceived, my beloved brothers.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.

18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
