THEinc-HIM Daily Bible Meditation – August 16 – Full Text

Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

AUGUST 16

PSALMS: 16, 46, 76, 106, 136

PROVERBS: 16

OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 12:1 - 14:11

NEW TESTAMENT: HEBREWS 7:1 - 17

PSALMS: 16

1 Preserve me, God, for in you do I take refuge.

2 My soul, you have said to the LORD,

"You are my Lord.

Apart from you I have no good thing."

3 As for the holy ones who are in the eretz,

They are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who give gifts to another god.

Their drink-offerings of blood I will not offer,

Nor take their names on my lips.

5 The LORD assigned my portion and my cup.

You made my lot secure.

6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places.

Yes, I have a good inheritance.

7  I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel.

Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the LORD always before me.

Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices.

My body shall also dwell in safety.

10 For you will not leave my soul in She'ol,

Neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption.

11 You will show me the path of life.

In your presence is fullness of joy.

In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

PSALMS: 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will we not be afraid, though the eretz changes,

Though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;

3 Though the waters of it roar and are troubled,

Though the mountains tremble with the swelling of it. Selah.

4 There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad,

The holy place of the tents of Ha`Elyon.

5 God is in the midst of her.

She shall not be moved.

God will help her at dawn.

6 The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved.

He uttered his voice, and the eretz melted.

7  The LORD of Hosts is with us.

The God of Ya`akov is our refuge. Selah.

8 Come, see the works of the LORD,

What desolations he has made in the eretz.

9 He makes wars cease to the end of the eretz.

He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear apart.

He burns the chariots in the fire.

10 "Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations.

I will be exalted in the eretz."

11 The LORD of Hosts is with us.

The God of Ya`akov is our refuge. Selah.

PSALMS: 76

1 In Yehudah, God is known.

His name is great in Yisra'el.

2 His tent is also in Shalem;

His dwelling-place in Tziyon.

3 There he broke the flaming arrows of the bow,

The shield, and the sword, and the weapons of war.

Selah.

4 Glorious are you, and excellent,

More than mountains of game.

5 Valiant men lie plundered,

They have slept their last sleep.

None of the men of war can lift their hands.

6 At your rebuke, God of Ya`akov,

Both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.

7 You, even you, are to be feared.

Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?

8 You pronounced judgment from heaven.

The eretz feared, and was silent,

9 When God arose to judgment,

To save all the afflicted ones of the eretz. Selah.

10 Surely the wrath of man praises you.

The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

11 Make vows to the LORD your God, and fulfill them!

Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.

12 He will cut off the spirit of princes.

He is feared by the kings of the eretz.

PSALMS: 106

1 Praise the LORD!

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,

For his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD,

Or fully declare all his praise?

3 Blessed are those who keep justice,

He who does righteousness at all times.

4 Remember me, LORD, with the favor that you show to your people.

Visit me with your yeshu`ah,

5 That I may see the prosperity of your chosen,

That I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,

That I may glory with your inheritance.

6 We have sinned with our fathers.

We have committed iniquity.

We have done wickedly.

7  Our fathers didn't understand your wonders in Mitzrayim.

They didn't remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses,

But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Sea of Suf.

8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake,

That he might make his mighty power known.

9 He rebuked the Sea of Suf also, and it was dried up;

So he led them through the depths, as through a desert.

10 He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,

And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 The waters covered their adversaries.

There was not one of them left.

12 Then they believed his words.

They sang his praise.

13 They soon forgot his works.

They didn't wait for his counsel,

14 But gave in to craving in the desert,

And tested God in the wasteland.

15 He gave them their request,

But sent leanness into their soul.

16 They envied Moshe also in the camp,

And Aharon, the LORD's holy one.

17 The eretz opened and swallowed up Datan,

And covered the company of Aviram.

18 A fire was kindled in their company.

The flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf in Horev,

And worshiped a molten image.

20 Thus they exchanged their glory

For an image of a bull that eats grass.

21 They forgot God, their Savior,

Who had done great things in Mitzrayim,

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham,

And awesome things by the Sea of Suf.

23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them,

Had Moshe, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach,

To turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn't destroy them.

24 Yes, they despised the pleasant land.

They didn't believe his word,

25 But murmured in their tents,

And didn't listen to the voice of the LORD.

26 Therefore he swore to them

That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

27 That he would overthrow their seed among the nations,

And scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also to Ba`al-Pe`or,

And ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds.

The plague broke in on them.

30 Then Pinechas stood up, and executed judgment,

So the plague was stopped.

31 That was credited to him for righteousness,

To all generations forevermore.

32 They angered him also at the waters of Merivah,

So that Moshe was troubled for their sakes;

33 Because they were rebellious against his spirit,

He spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They didn't destroy the peoples,

As the LORD commanded them,

35 But mixed themselves with the nations,

Learned their works.

36 They served their idols,

Which became a snare to them.

37  Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.

38 They shed innocent blood,

Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,

Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Kana`an.

The land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their works,

And prostituted themselves in their deeds.

40 Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against his people.

He abhorred his inheritance.

41 He gave them into the hand of the nations.

Those who hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them.

They were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times he delivered them,

But they were rebellious in their counsel,

And were brought low in their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless he regarded their distress,

When he heard their cry.

45 He remembered for them his covenant,

And repented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

46 He made them also to be pitied

By all those who carried them captive.

47 Save us, LORD, our God,

Gather us from among the nations,

To give thanks to your holy name,

To triumph in your praise!

48 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Yisra'el,

From everlasting even to everlasting!

Let all the people say, ‘

"Amein.

" Praise the LORD!

PSALMS: 136

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Give thanks to the God of gods;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

4 To him who alone does great wonders;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

5 To him who by understanding made the heavens;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

6 To him who spread out the eretz above the waters;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

7  To him who made the great lights;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

8 The sun to rule by day;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

9 The moon and stars to rule by night;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

10 To him who struck down the Mitzrian firstborn;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

11 And brought out Yisra'el from among them;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

12 With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

13 To him who divided the Sea of Suf apart;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

14 Made Yisra'el to pass through the midst of it;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

15 But overthrew Par`oh and his host in the Sea of Suf;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

16 To him who led his people through the wilderness;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

17 To him who struck great kings;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

18 And killed mighty kings;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

19 Sichon king of the Amori;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

20 `Og king of Bashan;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

21 And gave their land as an inheritance;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

22 Even a heritage to Yisra'el his servant;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

23 Who remembered us in our low estate;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

24 And has delivered us from our adversaries;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

25 Who gives food to every creature;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

26 Oh give thanks to the God of heaven;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

PROVERBS: 16

1 The plans of the heart belong to man,

But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;

But the LORD weighs the motives.

3 Commit your deeds to the LORD,

And your plans shall succeed.

4 The LORD has made everything for its own end --

Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD:

They shall assuredly not be unpunished.

6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for.

By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

7 When a man's ways please the LORD,

He makes even his enemies to be at shalom with him.

8 Better is a little with righteousness,

Than great revenues with injustice.

9 A man's heart plans his course,

But the LORD directs his steps.

10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king.

He shall not betray his mouth.

11 Honest balances and scales are the LORD's;

All the weights in the bag are his work.

12 It is an abomination for kings to do wrong,

For the throne is established by righteousness.

13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings.

They value one who speaks the truth.

14 The king's wrath is a messenger of death,

But a wise man will pacify it.

15 In the light of the king's face is life.

His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.

16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold!

Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

17  The highway of the upright is to depart from evil.

He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

18 Pride goes before destruction,

A haughty spirit before a fall.

19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor,

Than to divide the plunder with the proud.

20 He who gives heed to the Word finds prosperity.

Whoever trusts in the LORD is blessed.

21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent.

Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.

22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it,

But the punishment of fools is their folly.

23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth,

And adds learning to his lips.

24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb,

Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 There is a way which seems right to a man,

But in the end it leads to death.

26 The appetite of the laboring man labors for him;

For his mouth urges him on.

27 A worthless man devises mischief.

His speech is like a scorching fire.

28 A perverse man stirs up strife.

A whisperer separates close friends.

29 A man of violence entices his neighbor,

And leads him in a way that is not good.

30 One who winks his eyes to plot perversities,

One who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.

31 Gray hair is a crown of glory.

It is attained by a life of righteousness.

32 One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty;

One who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap,

But its every decision is from the LORD.

OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 12:1 - 14:11

12:1 The word of the LORD also came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, you dwell in the midst of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see, and don't see, who have ears to hear, and don't hear; for they are a rebellious house. 3 Therefore, you son of man, prepare you stuff for removing, and remove by day in their sight; and you shall remove from your place to another place in their sight: it may be they will consider, though they are a rebellious house. 4 You shall bring forth your stuff by day in their sight, as stuff for removing; and you shall go forth yourself at even in their sight, as when men go forth into exile. 5 Dig you through the wall in their sight, and carry out thereby. 6 In their sight shall you bear it on your shoulder, and carry it forth in the dark; you shall cover your face, that you don't see the land: for I have set you for a sign to the house of Yisra'el. 7 I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for removing, and in the even I dug through the wall with my hand; I brought it forth in the dark, and bore it on my shoulder in their sight. 8 In the morning came the word of the LORD to me, saying, 9 Son of man, has not the house of Yisra'el, the rebellious house, said to you, What do you? 10 Say you to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: This burden [concerns] the prince in Yerushalayim, and all the house of Yisra'el among whom they are. 11 Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done to them; they shall go into exile, into captivity. 12 The prince who is among them shall bear on his shoulder in the dark, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, because he shall not see the land with his eyes. 13 My net also will I spread on him, and he shall be taken in my snare; and I will bring him to Bavel to the land of the Kasdim; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there. 14 I will scatter toward every wind all who are round about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them. 15 They shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries. 16 But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence; that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD. 17 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 18 Son of man, eat your bread with quaking, and drink your water with trembling and with fearfulness; 19 and tell the people of the land, Thus says the Lord GOD concerning the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and Eretz-Yisra'el: They shall eat their bread with fearfulness, and drink their water in dismay, that her land may be desolate, [and despoiled] of all that is therein, because of the violence of all those who dwell therein. 20 The cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be a desolation; and you shall know that I am the LORD. 21 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 22 Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in Eretz-Yisra'el, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision fails? 23 Tell them therefore, Thus says the Lord GOD: I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Yisra'el; but tell them, The days are at hand, and the fulfillment of every vision. 24 For there shall be no more any false vision nor flattering divination within the house of Yisra'el. 25 For I am the LORD; I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall be performed; it shall be no more deferred: for in your days, rebellious house, will I speak the word, and will perform it, says the Lord GOD. 26 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 27  Son of man, behold, they of the house of Yisra'el say, The vision that he sees is for many day to come, and he prophesies of times that are far off. 28 Therefore tell them, Thus says the Lord GOD: There shall none of my words be deferred any more, but the word which I shall speak shall be performed, says the Lord GOD.

13:1 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Yisra'el who prophesy, and say you to those who prophesy out of their own heart, Hear you the word of the LORD: 3 Thus says the Lord GOD, Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! 4 Yisra'el, your prophets have been like foxes in the waste places. 5 You have not gone up into the gaps, neither built up the wall for the house of Yisra'el, to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD. 6 They have seen falsehood and lying divination, who say, the LORD says; but the LORD has not sent them: and they have made men to hope that the word would be confirmed. 7  Haven't you seen a false vision, and haven't you spoken a lying divination, in that you say, the LORD says; but I have not spoken? 8 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have spoken falsehood, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, says the Lord GOD. 9 My hand shall be against the prophets who see false visions, and who divine lies: they shall not be in the council of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Yisra'el, neither shall they enter into Eretz-Yisra'el; and you shall know that I am the Lord GOD. 10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Shalom; and there is no shalom; and when one builds up a wall, behold, they daub it with whitewash: 11 tell those who daub it with whitewash, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and you, great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall tear it. 12 Behold, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said to you, Where is the daubing with which you have daubed it? 13 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: I will even tear it with a stormy wind in my wrath; and there shall be an overflowing shower in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to consume it. 14 So will I break down the wall that you have daubed with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation of it shall be uncovered; and it shall fall, and you shall be consumed in the midst of it: and you shall know that I am the LORD. 15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath on the wall, and on those who have daubed it with whitewash; and I will tell you, The wall is no more, neither those who daubed it; 16 [to wit], the prophets of Yisra'el who prophesy concerning Yerushalayim, and who see visions of shalom for her, and there is no shalom, says the Lord GOD. 17 You, son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy you against them, 18 and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the women who sew pillows on all elbows, and make kerchiefs for the head of [persons of] every stature to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of my people, and save souls alive for yourselves? 19 You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die, and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to lies. 20 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against your pillows, with which you there hunt the souls to make [them] fly, and I will tear them from your arms; and I will let the souls go, even the souls who you hunt to make [them] fly. 21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and you shall know that I am the LORD. 22 Because with lies you have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, and be saved alive: 23 Therefore you shall no more see false visions, nor practice divination. I will deliver my people out of your hand; and you shall know that I am the LORD.

14:1 Then came certain of the Zakenim of Yisra'el to me, and sat before me. 2 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 3 Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them? 4 Therefore speak to them, and tell them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Every man of the house of Yisra'el who takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him therein according to the multitude of his idols; 5 that I may take the house of Yisra'el in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. 6 Therefore tell the house of Yisra'el, Thus says the Lord GOD: Return you, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. 7 For everyone of the house of Yisra'el, or of the strangers who sojourn in Yisra'el, who separates himself from me, and takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: 8 and I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and you shall know that I am the LORD. 9 If the prophet be deceived and speak a word, I, the LORD, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand on him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Yisra'el. 10 They shall bear their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him who seeks [to him]; 11 that the house of Yisra'el may go no more astray from me, neither defile themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, says the Lord GOD.

NEW TESTAMENT: HEBREWS 7:1 - 17

7:1 For this Malki-Tzedek, king of Shalem, Kohen of El `Elyon, who met Avraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

2 to whom also Avraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, King of righteousness, and then also King of Shalem, which is King of shalom;

3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a Kohen continually.

4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Avraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth out of the best spoils.

5 They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the Kohen's office have a mitzvah to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the loins of Avraham,

6 but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has taken tithes of Avraham, and has blessed him who has the promises.

7 But without any dispute the less is blessed of the better.

8 Here men who die receive tithes, but there one, of whom it is testified that he lives.

9 So to say, through Avraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes,

10 for he was yet in the loins of his father when Malki-Tzedek met him.

11 Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it have the people received the law), what further need was there for another Kohen to arise after the order of Malki-Tzedek, and not be called after the order of Aharon?

12 For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also of the law.

13 For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no man has given attendance at the altar.

14 For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Yehudah, as to which tribe Moshe spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

15 This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Malki-Tzedek there arises another Kohen,

16 who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly mitzvah, but after the power of an endless life:

17 for it is testified, "You are a Kohen forever, According to the order of Malki-Tzedek."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
