the LORD I take refuge.
How
then can you say to me:
"Flee
like a bird to your mountain.

For
look, the wicked bend their bows;
they
set their arrows against the strings
to
shoot from the shadows
at
the upright in heart.
3
When
the foundations are being destroyed,
what
can the righteous do A?"
4
The
LORD is in his holy temple;
the
LORD is on his heavenly throne.
He
observes the sons of men;
his
eyes examine them.
5
The
LORD examines the righteous,
but
the wicked B
and those who love violence
his
soul hates.
6
On
the wicked he will rain
fiery
coals and burning sulfur;
a
scorching wind will be their lot.

For
the LORD is righteous,
he
loves justice;
upright
men will see his face. 1

For

1
Blessed
is he who has regard for the weak;
the
LORD delivers him in times of trouble.
2
The
LORD will protect him and preserve his life;
he
will bless him in the land
and
not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
3
The
LORD will sustain him on his sickbed
and
restore him from his bed of illness.
4
I
said, "O LORD, have mercy on me;
heal
me, for I have sinned against you."
5
My
enemies say of me in malice,
"When
will he die and his name perish?"
6
Whenever
one comes to see me,
he
speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander;
then
he goes out and spreads it abroad.

All
my enemies whisper together against me;
they
imagine the worst for me, saying,

"A
vile disease has beset him;
he
will never get up from the place where he lies."

Even
my close friend, whom I trusted,
he
who shared my bread,
has

In
you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;

me never be put to shame.

Rescue
me and deliver me in your righteousness;
turn
your ear to me and save me.

Be
my rock of refuge,
to
which I can always go;
give
the command to save me,

you are my rock and my fortress.

Deliver
me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from
the grasp of evil and cruel men.
5
For
you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD,
my
confidence since my youth.

From
birth I have relied on you;
you
brought me forth from my mother's womb.
I
will ever praise you.

have become like a portent to many,
but
you are my strong refuge.

mouth is filled with your praise,

will sing of your love and justice;

you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

will be careful to lead a blameless life--

will you come to me?

will walk in my house

deeds of faithless men I hate;
they
will not cling to me.

Men
of perverse heart shall be far from me;
I
will have nothing to do with evil.

Whoever
slanders his neighbor in secret,
him
will I put to silence;
whoever
has haughty eyes and a proud heart,

will I not endure.

My
eyes will be on the faithful in the land,

they may dwell with me;

whose walk is blameless

dwell in my house;

will cut off every evildoer

heart is not proud, O LORD,

eyes are not haughty;

do not concern myself with great matters

things too wonderful for me.

But
I have stilled and quieted my soul;
like
a weaned child with its mother,

a weaned child is my soul within me.

O
Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both
now and forevermore. 9

The LORD abhors dishonest scales,
but
accurate weights are his delight.
2
When
pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but
with humility comes wisdom.
3
The
integrity of the upright guides them,
but
the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
4
Wealth
is worthless in the day of wrath,
but
righteousness delivers from death.
5
The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for them,
but
the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
6
The
righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but
the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
7
When
a wicked man dies, his hope perishes;
all
he expected from his power comes to nothing.
8
The
righteous man is rescued from trouble,
and
it comes on the wicked instead.
9
With
his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor,
but
through knowledge the righteous escape.
10
When
the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
when
the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
11
Through
the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but
by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.10

A
man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor,
but
a man of understanding holds his tongue.
13
A
gossip betrays a confidence,
but
a trustworthy man keeps a secret.
14
For
lack of guidance a nation falls,
but
many advisers make victory sure.
15
He
who puts up security for another will surely suffer,
but
whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe.
16
A
kindhearted woman gains respect,
but
ruthless men gain only wealth.
17
A
kind man benefits himself,
but
a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
18
The
wicked man earns deceptive wages,
but
he who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
19
The
truly righteous man attains life,
but
he who pursues evil goes to his death.
20
The
LORD detests men of perverse heart
but
he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
21
Be
sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished,
but
those who are righteous will go free.11

Like
a gold ring in a pig's snout
is
a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
23
The
desire of the righteous ends only in good,
but
the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
24
One
man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another
withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25
A
generous man will prosper;
he
who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
26
People
curse the man who hoards grain,
but
blessing crowns him who is willing to sell.
27
He
who seeks good finds goodwill,
but
evil comes to him who searches for it.
28
Whoever
trusts in his riches will fall,
but
the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.

He
who brings trouble on his family will inherit only wind,
and
the fool will be servant to the wise.

The
fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and
he who wins souls is wise.

If
the righteous receive their due on earth,

How A
the gold has lost its luster,
the
fine gold become dull!
The
sacred gems are scattered
at
the head of every street.
2
How
the precious sons of Zion,
once
worth their weight in gold,
are
now considered as pots of clay,
the
work of a potter's hands!
3
Even
jackals offer their breasts
to
nurse their young,
but
my people have become heartless
like
ostriches in the desert.
4
Because
of thirst the infant's tongue
sticks
to the roof of its mouth;
the
children beg for bread,
but
no one gives it to them.
5
Those
who once ate delicacies
are
destitute in the streets.
Those
nurtured in purple
now
lie on ash heaps. 13
6
The
punishment of my people
is
greater than that of Sodom,
which
was overthrown in a moment
without
a hand turned to help her.
7
Their
princes were brighter than snow
and
whiter than milk,
their
bodies more ruddy than rubies,
their
appearance like sapphires. B
8
But
now they are blacker than soot;
they
are not recognized in the streets.
Their
skin has shriveled on their bones;
it
has become as dry as a stick.
9
Those
killed by the sword are better off
than
those who die of famine;
racked
with hunger, they waste away
for
lack of food from the field.
10
With
their own hands compassionate women
have
cooked their own children,
who
became their food
when
my people were destroyed.
11
The
LORD has given full vent to his wrath; 14
he
has poured out his fierce anger.
He
kindled a fire in Zion
that
consumed her foundations.
12
The
kings of the earth did not believe,
nor
did any of the world's people,
that
enemies and foes could enter
the
gates of Jerusalem.
13
But
it happened because of the sins of her prophets
and
the iniquities of her priests,
who
shed within her
the
blood of the righteous.
14
Now
they grope through the streets
like
men who are blind.
They
are so defiled with blood
that
no one dares to touch their garments.
15
"Go
away! You are unclean!" men cry to them.
"Away!
Away! Don't touch us!"
When
they flee and wander about,
people
among the nations say,
"They
can stay here no longer."
16
The
LORD himself has scattered them; 15
he
no longer watches over them.
The
priests are shown no honor,
the
elders no favor.
17
Moreover,
our eyes failed,
looking
in vain for help;
from
our towers we watched
for
a nation that could not save us.
18
Men
stalked us at every step,
so
we could not walk in our streets.
Our
end was near, our days were numbered,
for
our end had come.
19
Our
pursuers were swifter
than
eagles in the sky;
they
chased us over the mountains
and
lay in wait for us in the desert.
20
The
LORD's anointed, our very life breath,
was
caught in their traps.
We
thought that under his shadow
we
would live among the nations. 16
21
Rejoice
and be glad, O Daughter of Edom,
you
who live in the land of Uz.
But
to you also the cup will be passed;
you
will be drunk and stripped naked.
22
O
Daughter of Zion, your punishment will end;
he
will not prolong your exile.
But,
O Daughter of Edom, he will punish your sin
and
expose your wickedness.

Remember,
O LORD, what has happened to us;
look,
and see our disgrace.
2
Our
inheritance has been turned over to aliens,
our
homes to foreigners.
3
We
have become orphans and fatherless,
our
mothers like widows.
4
We
must buy the water we drink;
our
wood can be had only at a price.
5
Those
who pursue us are at our heels;
we
are weary and find no rest.
6
We
submitted to Egypt and Assyria
to
get enough bread.
7
Our
fathers sinned and are no more,
and
we bear their punishment.
8
Slaves
rule over us, 17
and
there is none to free us from their hands.
9
We
get our bread at the risk of our lives
because
of the sword in the desert.
10
Our
skin is hot as an oven,
feverish
from hunger.
11
Women
have been ravished in Zion,
and
virgins in the towns of Judah.
12
Princes
have been hung up by their hands;
elders
are shown no respect.
13
Young
men toil at the millstones;
boys
stagger under loads of wood.
14The
elders are gone from the city gate;
the
young men have stopped their music.
15
Joy
is gone from our hearts;
our
dancing has turned to mourning.
16
The
crown has fallen from our head.
Woe
to us, for we have sinned!
17
Because
of this our hearts are faint,
because
of these things our eyes grow dim
18
for
Mount Zion, which lies desolate,
with
jackals prowling over it.
19
You,
O LORD, reign forever;
your
throne endures from generation to generation.
20
Why
do you always forget us?
Why
do you forsake us so long? 18
21
Restore
us to yourself, O LORD, that we may return;
renew
our days as of old
22
unless
you have utterly rejected us
and
are angry with us beyond measure. 19

TESTAMENT:
HEBREWS 2:1 - 18

1
We
must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so
that we do not drift away. 2
For
if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and
disobedience received its just punishment, 3
how
shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation,
which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those
who heard him. 4
God
also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and
gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
5
It
is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which
we are speaking.
6
But
there is a place where someone has testified:
"What
is man that you are mindful of him,
the
son of man that you care for him?
7
You
made him a littleA
lower than the angels;
you
crowned him with glory and honor
8
and put everything under his feet."
B
In
putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to
him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. 9
But
we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now
crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by
the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.
10
In
bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and
through whom everything exists, should make the author of their
salvation perfect through suffering.
11
Both
the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the
same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12He
says,
"I
will
declare your name to my brothers;
in
the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises."

And
again,
"I
will put my trust in him."
D
And
again he says, 20
"Here
am I, and the children God has given me."
E
14
Since
the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so
that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of
death--that is, the devil—15
and
free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of
death. 16
For
surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17
For
this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in
order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in
service to God, and that he might make atonement for F
the sins of the people. 18
Because
he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who
are being tempted. 21

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
