LORD, for the godly are no more;

Everyone
lies to his neighbor;

flattering lips speak with deception.

the LORD cut off all flattering lips
and
every boastful tongue

that
says, "We will triumph with our tongues;
we
own our lips B--who
is our master?"
5
"Because
of the oppression of the weak
and
the groaning of the needy,
I
will now arise,"
says the LORD.
"I
will protect them from those who malign them."

And
the words of the LORD are flawless,
like
silver refined in a furnace of clay,
purified
seven times.

O
LORD, you will keep us safe
and
protect us from such people forever.

how
I used to go with the multitude,

the procession to the house of God,

shouts of joy and thanksgiving

the festive throng.

Solomon.
1
Endow
the king with your justice, O God,

royal son with your righteousness.

will defend the afflicted among the people
and
save the children of the needy;

A
prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament
before the LORD.
1
Hear
my prayer, O LORD;
let
my cry for help come to you.
2
Do
not hide your face from me
when
I am in distress.
Turn
your ear to me;
when
I call, answer me quickly.
3
For
my days vanish like smoke;
my
bones burn like glowing embers.
4
My
heart is blighted and withered like grass;
I
forget to eat my food.
5
Because
of my loud groaning
I
am reduced to skin and bones.
6
I
am like a desert owl,
like
an owl among the ruins.
7
I
lie awake; I have become
like
a bird alone on a roof.
8
All
day long my enemies taunt me;
those
who rail against me use my name as a curse.

For
I eat ashes as my food
and
mingle my drink with tears

because
of your great wrath,
for
you have taken me up and thrown me aside.

days are like the evening shadow;

Let
this be written for a future generation,

a people not yet created may praise the LORD:

"The
LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high,

heaven he viewed the earth,

to
hear the groans of the prisoners
and
release those condemned to death."

So
the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion
and
his praise in Jerusalem

when
the peoples and the kingdoms
assemble
to worship the LORD.

he broke my strength;

cut short my days.

So
I said:
"Do
not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days;
your
years go on through all generations.

In
the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,

O
LORD, remember David
and
all the hardships he endured.
2
He
swore an oath to the LORD
and
made a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:

"I
will not enter my house
or
go to my bed--
4
I
will allow no sleep to my eyes,
no
slumber to my eyelids,
5
till
I find a place for the LORD,
a
dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."

We
heard it in Ephrathah,
we
came upon it in the fields of Jaar A:B

"Let
us go to his dwelling place;
let
us worship at his footstool--

arise,
O LORD, and come to your resting place,

LORD swore an oath to David,

Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,

he who hates correction is stupid.

good man obtains favor from the LORD,

the LORD condemns a crafty man.

man cannot be established through wickedness,

the righteous cannot be uprooted.

A
wife of noble character is her husband's crown,
but
a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

The
plans of the righteous are just,
but
the advice of the wicked is deceitful.

The
words of the wicked lie in wait for blood,
but
the speech of the upright rescues them.

Wicked
men are overthrown and are no more,
but
the house of the righteous stands firm.

A
man is praised according to his wisdom,
but
men with warped minds are despised.

Better
to be a nobody and yet have a servant

pretend to be somebody and have no food.

EZEKIEL 1:1 - 3:15

1
In
the A
thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was
among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I
saw visions of God.
2
On
the fifth of the month--it was the fifth year of the exile of King
Jehoiachin—3
the
word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, B
by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. C
There the hand of the LORD was upon him.
4
I
looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north--an immense
cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The
center of the fire looked like glowing metal, 5
and
in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance
their form was that of a man, 6
but
each of them had four faces and four wings. 7
Their
legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed
like burnished bronze. 8
Under
their wings on their four sides they had the hands of a man. All four
of them had faces and wings,
9
and
their wings touched one another. Each one went straight ahead; they
did not turn as they moved.
10
Their
faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and
on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the
face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle. 11
Such
were their faces. Their wings were spread out upward; each had two
wings, one touching the wing of another creature on either side, and
two wings covering its body.
12
Each
one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go,
without turning as they went. 13
The
appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals of fire or
like torches. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was
bright, and lightning flashed out of it. 14
The
creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning.
15
As
I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside
each creature with its four faces. 16
This
was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like
chrysolite, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like
a wheel intersecting a wheel. 17
As
they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the
creatures faced; the wheels did not turn about D
as the creatures went. 18
Their
rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all
around.
19
When
the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when
the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose. 20
Wherever
the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along
with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the
wheels. 21
When
the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still,
they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground,
the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living
creatures was in the wheels.
22
Spread
out above the heads of the living creatures was what looked like an
expanse, sparkling like ice, and awesome. 23
Under
the expanse their wings were stretched out one toward the other, and
each had two wings covering its body. 24
When
the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar
of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty, E
like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered
14their
wings.
25
Then
there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads as they
stood with lowered wings. 26
Above
the expanse over their heads was what looked like a throne of
sapphire, F
and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. 27
I
saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing
metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like
fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. 28
Like
the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the
radiance around him.
This
was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I
saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking.

said to me, "Son
of man, stand up on your feet and I will speak to you."
2
As
he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I
heard him speaking to me.
3
He
said: "Son
of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation
that has rebelled against me; they and their fathers have been in
revolt against me to this very day.
4
The
people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to
them, `This is what the Sovereign LORD says.' 5
And
whether they listen or fail to listen--for they are a rebellious
house--they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6
And
you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be
afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live
among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or terrified by
them, though they are a rebellious house. 7
You
must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen,
for they are rebellious. 8
But
you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel like that
rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you."
9
Then
I looked, and I saw a hand stretched out to me. In it was a scroll,
10
which
he unrolled before me. On both sides of it were written words of
lament and mourning and woe.

And
he said to me, "Son
of man, eat what is before you, eat this scroll; then go and speak to
the house of Israel."
2
So
I opened my mouth, and he gave me the scroll to eat.
3
Then
he said to me, "Son
of man, eat this scroll I am giving you and fill your stomach with
it."
So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth. 15
4
He
then said to me: "Son
of man, go now to the house of Israel and speak my words to them. 5
You
are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult
language, but to the house of Israel—6
not
to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words
you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would
have listened to you. 7
But
the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are
not willing to listen to me, for the whole house of Israel is
hardened and obstinate. 8
But
I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are. 9
I
will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint. Do
not be afraid of them or terrified by them, though they are a
rebellious house."
10
And
he said to me, "Son
of man, listen carefully and take to heart all the words I speak to
you. 11
Go
now to your countrymen in exile and speak to them. Say to them, `This
is what the Sovereign LORD says,' whether they listen or fail to
listen."
12
Then
the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me a loud rumbling
sound--May the glory of the LORD be praised in his dwelling place!—13
the
sound of the wings of the living creatures brushing against each
other and the sound of the wheels beside them, a loud rumbling sound.
14
The
Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness
and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the LORD upon
me. 15
I
came to the exiles who lived at Tel Abib near the Kebar River. And
there, where they were living, I sat among them for seven
days--overwhelmed. 16
NEW
TESTAMENT:
HEBREWS 3:1 - 19

1
Therefore,
holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts
on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. 2
He
was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful
in all God's house. 3
Jesus
has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the
builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
4
For
every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of
everything. 5
Moses
was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what
would be said in the future.
6
But
Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house,
if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.
7
So,
as the Holy Spirit says:
"Today,
if you hear his voice,
8
do not harden your hearts
as
you did in the rebellion,
during
the time of testing in the desert,
9
where
your fathers tested and tried me
and
for forty years saw what I did.
10
That
is why I was angry with that generation,
and
I said, `Their hearts are always going astray,
and
they have not known my ways.'
11
So
I declared on oath in my anger,
`They
shall never enter my rest.'"
A
12
See
to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart
that turns away from the living God. 13
But
encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that
none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. 14
We
have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the
confidence we had at first. 15
As
has just been said:
"Today,
if you hear his voice,
do
not harden your hearts
16
Who
were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led
out of Egypt? 17
And
with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who
sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? 18
And
to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to
those who disobeyed C?
19
So
we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. 18

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
