Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

DECEMBER 16

PSALMS:  16, 46, 76, 106, 136

PROVERBS:  16

OLD TESTAMENT:  NUMBERS 8:1 - 9:23

NEW TESTAMENT:  MARK 13:14 - 37

PSALMS: 16

1 Preserve me, God, for in you do I take refuge.

2 My soul, you have said to the LORD,

"You are my Lord.

Apart from you I have no good thing."

3 As for the holy ones who are in the eretz,

They are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who give gifts to another god.

Their drink-offerings of blood I will not offer,

Nor take their names on my lips.

5 The LORD assigned my portion and my cup.

You made my lot secure.

6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places.

Yes, I have a good inheritance.

7  I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel.

Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the LORD always before me.

Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices.

My body shall also dwell in safety.

10 For you will not leave my soul in She'ol,

Neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption.

11 You will show me the path of life.

In your presence is fullness of joy.

In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

PSALMS: 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will we not be afraid, though the eretz changes,

Though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;

3 Though the waters of it roar and are troubled,

Though the mountains tremble with the swelling of it. Selah.

4 There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad,

The holy place of the tents of Ha`Elyon.

5 God is in the midst of her.

She shall not be moved.

God will help her at dawn.

6 The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved.

He uttered his voice, and the eretz melted.

7  The LORD of Hosts is with us.

The God of Ya`akov is our refuge. Selah.

8 Come, see the works of the LORD,

What desolations he has made in the eretz.

9 He makes wars cease to the end of the eretz.

He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear apart.

He burns the chariots in the fire.

10 "Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations.

I will be exalted in the eretz."

11 The LORD of Hosts is with us.

The God of Ya`akov is our refuge. Selah.

PSALMS: 76

1 In Yehudah, God is known.

His name is great in Yisra'el.

2 His tent is also in Shalem;

His dwelling-place in Tziyon.

3 There he broke the flaming arrows of the bow,

The shield, and the sword, and the weapons of war.

Selah.

4 Glorious are you, and excellent,

More than mountains of game.

5 Valiant men lie plundered,

They have slept their last sleep.

None of the men of war can lift their hands.

6 At your rebuke, God of Ya`akov,

Both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.

7 You, even you, are to be feared.

Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?

8 You pronounced judgment from heaven.

The eretz feared, and was silent,

9 When God arose to judgment,

To save all the afflicted ones of the eretz. Selah.

10 Surely the wrath of man praises you.

The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

11 Make vows to the LORD your God, and fulfill them!

Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.

12 He will cut off the spirit of princes.

He is feared by the kings of the eretz.

PSALMS: 106

1 Praise the LORD!

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,

For his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD,

Or fully declare all his praise?

3 Blessed are those who keep justice,

He who does righteousness at all times.

4 Remember me, LORD, with the favor that you show to your people.

Visit me with your yeshu`ah,

5 That I may see the prosperity of your chosen,

That I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,

That I may glory with your inheritance.

6 We have sinned with our fathers.

We have committed iniquity.

We have done wickedly.

7  Our fathers didn't understand your wonders in Mitzrayim.

They didn't remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses,

But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Sea of Suf.

8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake,

That he might make his mighty power known.

9 He rebuked the Sea of Suf also, and it was dried up;

So he led them through the depths, as through a desert.

10 He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,

And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 The waters covered their adversaries.

There was not one of them left.

12 Then they believed his words.

They sang his praise.

13 They soon forgot his works.

They didn't wait for his counsel,

14 But gave in to craving in the desert,

And tested God in the wasteland.

15 He gave them their request,

But sent leanness into their soul.

16 They envied Moshe also in the camp,

And Aharon, the LORD's holy one.

17 The eretz opened and swallowed up Datan,

And covered the company of Aviram.

18 A fire was kindled in their company.

The flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf in Horev,

And worshiped a molten image.

20 Thus they exchanged their glory

For an image of a bull that eats grass.

21 They forgot God, their Savior,

Who had done great things in Mitzrayim,

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham,

And awesome things by the Sea of Suf.

23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them,

Had Moshe, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach,

To turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn't destroy them.

24 Yes, they despised the pleasant land.

They didn't believe his word,

25 But murmured in their tents,

And didn't listen to the voice of the LORD.

26 Therefore he swore to them

That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

27 That he would overthrow their seed among the nations,

And scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also to Ba`al-Pe`or,

And ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds.

The plague broke in on them.

30 Then Pinechas stood up, and executed judgment,

So the plague was stopped.

31 That was credited to him for righteousness,

To all generations forevermore.

32 They angered him also at the waters of Merivah,

So that Moshe was troubled for their sakes;

33 Because they were rebellious against his spirit,

He spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They didn't destroy the peoples,

As the LORD commanded them,

35 But mixed themselves with the nations,

Learned their works.

36 They served their idols,

Which became a snare to them.

37  Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.

38 They shed innocent blood,

Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,

Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Kana`an.

The land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their works,

And prostituted themselves in their deeds.

40 Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against his people.

He abhorred his inheritance.

41 He gave them into the hand of the nations.

Those who hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them.

They were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times he delivered them,

But they were rebellious in their counsel,

And were brought low in their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless he regarded their distress,

When he heard their cry.

45 He remembered for them his covenant,

And repented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

46 He made them also to be pitied

By all those who carried them captive.

47 Save us, LORD, our God,

Gather us from among the nations,

To give thanks to your holy name,

To triumph in your praise!

48 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Yisra'el,

From everlasting even to everlasting!

Let all the people say, ‘

"Amein.

" Praise the LORD!

PSALMS: 136

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Give thanks to the God of gods;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

4 To him who alone does great wonders;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

5 To him who by understanding made the heavens;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

6 To him who spread out the eretz above the waters;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

7  To him who made the great lights;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

8 The sun to rule by day;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

9 The moon and stars to rule by night;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

10 To him who struck down the Mitzrian firstborn;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

11 And brought out Yisra'el from among them;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

12 With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

13 To him who divided the Sea of Suf apart;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

14 Made Yisra'el to pass through the midst of it;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

15 But overthrew Par`oh and his host in the Sea of Suf;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

16 To him who led his people through the wilderness;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

17 To him who struck great kings;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

18 And killed mighty kings;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

19 Sichon king of the Amori;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

20 `Og king of Bashan;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

21 And gave their land as an inheritance;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

22 Even a heritage to Yisra'el his servant;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

23 Who remembered us in our low estate;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

24 And has delivered us from our adversaries;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

25 Who gives food to every creature;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

26 Oh give thanks to the God of heaven;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

PROVERBS: 16

1 The plans of the heart belong to man,

But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;

But the LORD weighs the motives.

3 Commit your deeds to the LORD,

And your plans shall succeed.

4 The LORD has made everything for its own end --

Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD:

They shall assuredly not be unpunished.

6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for.

By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

7 When a man's ways please the LORD,

He makes even his enemies to be at shalom with him.

8 Better is a little with righteousness,

Than great revenues with injustice.

9 A man's heart plans his course,

But the LORD directs his steps.

10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king.

He shall not betray his mouth.

11 Honest balances and scales are the LORD's;

All the weights in the bag are his work.

12 It is an abomination for kings to do wrong,

For the throne is established by righteousness.

13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings.

They value one who speaks the truth.

14 The king's wrath is a messenger of death,

But a wise man will pacify it.

15 In the light of the king's face is life.

His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.

16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold!

Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

17  The highway of the upright is to depart from evil.

He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

18 Pride goes before destruction,

A haughty spirit before a fall.

19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor,

Than to divide the plunder with the proud.

20 He who gives heed to the Word finds prosperity.

Whoever trusts in the LORD is blessed.

21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent.

Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.

22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it,

But the punishment of fools is their folly.

23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth,

And adds learning to his lips.

24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb,

Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 There is a way which seems right to a man,

But in the end it leads to death.

26 The appetite of the laboring man labors for him;

For his mouth urges him on.

27 A worthless man devises mischief.

His speech is like a scorching fire.

28 A perverse man stirs up strife.

A whisperer separates close friends.

29 A man of violence entices his neighbor,

And leads him in a way that is not good.

30 One who winks his eyes to plot perversities,

One who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.

31 Gray hair is a crown of glory.

It is attained by a life of righteousness.

32 One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty;

One who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap,

But its every decision is from the LORD.

OLD TESTAMENT:  NUMBERS 8:1 - 9:23

8:1 The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying, 2 "Speak to Aharon, and tell him, 'When you light the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the menorah.'"3 Aharon did so. He lit its lamps to light the area in front of the menorah, as the LORD commanded Moshe. 4 This was the workmanship of the menorah, beaten work of gold. From its base to its flowers, it was beaten work: according to the pattern which the LORD had shown Moshe, so he made the menorah. 5  The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying, 6 "Take the Levites from among the children of Yisra'el, and cleanse them. 7  Thus shall you do to them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of cleansing on them, let them shave their whole bodies with a razor, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves. 8 Then let them take a young bull, and its meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and another young bull you shall take for a sin offering. 9 You shall present the Levites before the Tent of Meeting. You shall assemble the whole congregation of the children of Yisra'el. 10 You shall present the Levites before the LORD. The children of Yisra'el shall lay their hands on the Levites, 11 and Aharon shall offer the Levites before the LORD for a wave offering, on the behalf of the children of Yisra'el, that it may be theirs to do the service of the LORD. 12 The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering to the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 You shall set the Levites before Aharon, and before his sons, and offer them as a wave offering to the LORD. 14 Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Yisra'el, and the Levites shall be mine. 15 "After that, the Levites shall go in to do the service of the Tent of Meeting: and you shall cleanse them, and offer them as a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to me from among the children of Yisra'el; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of all the children of Yisra'el, I have taken them to me. 17  For all the firstborn among the children of Yisra'el are mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Mitzrayim, I sanctified them for myself. 18 I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Yisra'el. 19 I have given the Levites as a gift to Aharon and to his sons from among the children of Yisra'el, to do the service of the children of Yisra'el in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Yisra'el; that there be no plague among the children of Yisra'el, when the children of Yisra'el come near to the sanctuary." 20 Thus did Moshe, and Aharon, and all the congregation of the children of Yisra'el, to the Levites. According to all that the LORD commanded Moshe concerning the Levites, so the children of Yisra'el did to them. 21 The Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes; and Aharon offered them for a wave offering before the LORD; and Aharon made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 After that, the Levites went in to do their service in the Tent of Meeting before Aharon, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moshe concerning the Levites, so they did to them. 23 The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying, 24 "This is that which belongs to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait on the service in the work of the Tent of Meeting; 25 and from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting on the work, and shall serve no more, 26 but shall minister with their brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shall you do to the Levites concerning their duties."

9:1 The LORD spoke to Moshe in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Mitzrayim, saying, 2 "Moreover let the children of Yisra'el keep the Pesach in its appointed season. 3 On the fourteenth day of this month, at evening, you shall keep it in its appointed season-- according to all its statutes, and according to all its ordinances, you shall keep it." 4Moshe spoke to the children of Yisra'el, that they should keep the Pesach. 5 They kept the Pesach in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, in the wilderness of Sinai. According to all that the LORD commanded Moshe, so the children of Yisra'el did. 6 There were certain men, who were unclean because of the dead body of a man, so that they could not keep the Pesach on that day, and they came before Moshe and before Aharon on that day. 7  Those men said to him, "We are unclean because of the dead body of a man. Why are we kept back, that we may not offer the offering of the LORD in its appointed season among the children of Yisra'el?" 8 Moshe answered them, "Wait, that I may hear what the LORD will command concerning you." 9 The LORD spoke to Moshe, saying, 10 "Say to the children of Yisra'el, 'If any man of you or of your generations is unclean by reason of a dead body, or is on a journey far away, he shall still keep the Pesach to the LORD. 11 In the second month, on the fourteenth day at evening they shall keep it; they shall eat it with matzah and bitter herbs. 12 They shall leave none of it until the morning, nor break a bone of it. According to all the statute of the Pesach they shall keep it. 13 But the man who is clean, and is not on a journey, and fails to keep the Pesach, that soul shall be cut off from his people. Because he didn't offer the offering of the LORD in its appointed season, that man shall bear his sin. 14 If a foreigner lives among you, and desires to keep the Pesach to the LORD; according to the statute of the Pesach, and according to its ordinance, so shall he do. You shall have one statute, both for the sojourner, and for him who is born in the land.'" 15 On the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, even the Tent of the Testimony: and at evening it was over the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until morning. 16 So it was continually. The cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night. 17  Whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tent, then after that the children of Yisra'el journeyed; and in the place where the cloud remained, there the children of Yisra'el encamped. 18 At the mitzvah of the LORD, the children of Yisra'el journeyed, and at the mitzvah of the LORD they encamped. As long as the cloud remained on the tabernacle they remained encamped. 19 When the cloud stayed on the tabernacle many days, then the children of Yisra'el kept the charge of the LORD, and didn't travel. 20 Sometimes the cloud was a few days on the tabernacle; then according to the mitzvah of the LORD they remained encamped, and according to the mitzvah of the LORD they journeyed. 21 Sometimes the cloud was from evening until morning; and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, they journeyed: or by day and by night, when the cloud was taken up, they journeyed. 22 Whether it was two days, or a month, or a year that the cloud stayed on the tabernacle, remaining on it, the children of Yisra'el remained encamped, and didn't travel; but when it was taken up, they traveled. 23 At the mitzvah of the LORD they encamped, and at the mitzvah of the LORD they journeyed. They kept the charge of the LORD, at the mitzvah of the LORD by Moshe.

NEW TESTAMENT:  MARK 13:14 - 37

13:14 But when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniyel the prophet, standing where it ought not (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Yehudah flee to the mountains,

15 and let him who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house.

16 Let him who is in the field not return back to take his cloak.

17 But woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse babies in those days!

18 Pray that your flight won't be in the winter.

19 For in those days there will be oppression, such as there has not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will be.

20Unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the elect's sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days.

21 Then if anyone tells you, 'Look, here is the Messiah!' or, 'Look, there!' don't believe it.

22 For there will arise false messiahs and false prophets, and will show signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, also the elect.

23 But you watch. "Behold, I have told you all things beforehand.

24 But in those days, after that oppression, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give her light,

25 the stars will be falling from the sky, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.

26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

27  Then he will send forth his angels, and will gather together his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the eretz to the ends of the sky.

28 "Now from the fig tree, learn this parable. When the branch has now become tender, and puts forth its leaves, you know that the summer is near;

29 even so you also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that it is near, at the doors.

30 Most assuredly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things are accomplished.

31 Heaven and eretz will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

32 But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, neither the Son, but only the Father.

33 Watch, keep alert, and pray; for you don't know when the time is.

34 "It is like a man, traveling to another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, and to each one his work, and also commanded the doorkeeper to keep watch.

35 Watch therefore, for you don't know when the lord of the house is coming, whether at evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning;

36 lest coming suddenly he might find you sleeping.

37  What I tell you, I tell all: Watch."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
