PSALMS: 2
1 Why are the nations in an uproar,
the peoples grumbling in vain?
2 The earth's kings are taking positions,
leaders conspiring together,
against ADONAI and his anointed.
3 They cry, "Let's break their fetters!
Let's throw off their chains!"
4 He who sits in heaven laughs;
Adonai looks at them in derision.
5 Then in his anger he rebukes them,
terrifies them in his fury.
6 "I myself have installed my king on Tziyon,
my holy mountain."
7 "I will proclaim the decree:
ADONAI said to me,
'You are my son;
today I became your father.
8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance;
the whole wide world will be your possession.
9 You will break them with an iron rod,
shatter them like a clay pot.'"
10 Therefore, kings, be wise;
be warned, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve ADONAI with fear;
rejoice, but with trembling.
12 Kiss the son, lest he be angry,
and you perish along the way,
when suddenly his anger blazes.
How blessed are all who take refuge in him.
PSALMS: 32
1 By David.
A maskil:
How blessed are those whose offense is forgiven,
those whose sin is covered!
2 How blessed those to whom ADONAI imputes no guilt,
in whose spirit is no deceit!
3 When I kept silent,
my bones wasted away because of my groaning all day long;
4 day and night your hand was heavy on me;
the sap in me dried up as in a summer drought.
(Selah)
5 When I acknowledged my sin to you,
when I stopped concealing my guilt,
and said, "I will confess my offenses to ADONAI";
then you, you forgave the guilt of my sin. (Selah)
6 This is what everyone faithful should pray at a time when you can be found.
Then, when the floodwaters are raging, they will not reach to him.
7 You are a hiding-place for me, you will keep me from distress;
you will surround me with songs of deliverance. (Selah)
8 "I will instruct and teach you in this way that you are to go;
I will give you counsel;
my eyes will be watching you."
9 Don't be like a horse or mule that has no understanding,
that has to be curbed with bit and bridle,
or else it won't come near you.
10 Many are the torments of the wicked,
but grace surrounds those who trust in ADONAI.
11 Be glad in ADONAI;
rejoice, you righteous!
Shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
PSALMS: 62
1 For the leader.
Set in the style of Y'dutun.
A psalm of David:
My soul waits in silence for God alone;
my salvation comes from him.
2 He alone is my rock and salvation, my stronghold;
I won't be greatly moved.
3 How long will you assail a person in order to murder him, all of you,
as if he were a sagging wall or a shaky fence?
4 They only want to shake him from his height,
they take delight in lying with their mouths they bless, but inwardly they curse.
(Selah)
5 My soul, wait in silence for God alone,
because my hope comes from him.
6 He alone is my rock and salvation, my stronghold;
I won't be moved.
7 My safety and honor rest on God.
My strong rock and refuge are in God.
8 Trust in him, people, at all times;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. (Selah)
9 Ordinary folks are merely a breath and important people a sham;
if you lay them on a balance-scale, they go up both together are lighter than nothing.
10 Don't put your trust in extortion, don't put false hopes in robbery;
even if wealth increases, don't set your heart on it.
11 God has spoken once, I have heard it twice:
strength belongs to God.
12 Also to you, Adonai, belongs grace;
for you reward all as their deeds deserve.
PSALMS: 92
1 A psalm.
A song for Shabbat:
It is good to give thanks to ADONAI and sing praises to your name, 'Elyon,
2 to tell in the morning about your grace and at night about your faithfulness,
3 to the music of a ten-stringed [harp] and a lute,
with the melody sounding on a lyre.
4 For, ADONAI, what you do makes me happy;
I take joy in what your hands have made.
5 How great are your deeds, ADONAI!
How very deep your thoughts!
6 Stupid people can't know, fools don't understand,
7 that when the wicked sprout like grass, and all who do evil prosper,
it is so that they can be eternally destroyed,
8 while you, ADONAI, are exalted forever.
9 For your enemies, ADONAI, your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
10 But you have given me the strength of a wild bull;
you anoint me with fresh olive oil.
11 My eyes have gazed with pleasure on my enemies' ruin,
my ears have delighted in the fall of my foes.
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar in the L'vanon.
13 Planted in the house of ADONAI,
they will flourish in the courtyards of our God.
14 Even in old age they will be vigorous,
still full of sap, still bearing fruit,
15 proclaiming that ADONAI is upright, my Rock,
in whom there is no wrong.
PSALMS: 122
1 A song of ascents.
By David: I was glad when they said to me,
"The house of ADONAI! Let's go!"
2 Our feet were already standing at your gates, Yerushalayim.
3 Yerushalayim, built as a city fostering friendship and unity.
4 The tribes have gone up there, the tribes of ADONAI,
as a witness to Isra'el, to give thanks to the name of ADONAI.
5 For there the thrones of justice were set up,
the thrones of the house of David.
6 Pray for shalom in Yerushalayim;
may those who love you prosper.
7 May shalom be within your ramparts,
prosperity in your palaces.
8 For the sake of my family and friends,
I say, "Shalom be within you!"
9 For the sake of the house of ADONAI our God,
I will seek your well-being.
PROVERBS: 2
1 My son, if you will receive my words and
store my commands inside you,
2 paying attention to wisdom inclining
your mind toward understanding
3 yes, if you will call for insight and
raise your voice for discernment,
4 if you seek it as you would silver and
search for it as for hidden treasure -
5 then you will understand the fear of ADONAI and find knowledge of God.
6 For ADONAI gives wisdom;
from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
7 He stores up common sense for the upright,
is a shield to those whose conduct is blameless,
8 in order to guard the courses of justice and preserve
the way of those faithful to him.
9 Then you will understand righteousness,
justice, fairness and every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
knowledge will be enjoyable for you,
11 discretion will watch over you,
and discernment will guard you.
12 They will save you from the way of evil and
from those who speak deceitfully,
13 who leave the paths of honesty
to walk the ways of darkness,
14 who delight in doing evil and
take joy in being stubbornly deceitful,
15 from those whose tracks are twisted and
whose paths are perverse.
16 They will save you from a woman who is a stranger,
from a loose woman with smooth talk,
17 who abandons the ruler she had in her youth and
forgets the covenant of her God.
18 Her house is sinking toward death,
her paths lead to the dead.
19 None who go to her return;
they never regain the path to life.
20 Thus you will walk on the way of good people
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,
the pure-hearted will remain there;
22 but the wicked will be cut off from the land,
the unfaithful rooted out of it.
OLD TESTAMENT: JEREMIAH 39:1 - 41:18
39:1 It happened when Yerushalayim was taken, (in the ninth year of Tzidkiyahu king of Yehudah, in the tenth month, came Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel and all his army against Yerushalayim, and besieged it; 2 in the eleventh year of Tzidkiyahu, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a breach was made in the city,) 3 that all the princes of the king of Bavel came in, and sat in the middle gate, [to wit], Nergal-Sar'etzer, Samgar-Nevo, Sarsekhim, Rav-Saris, Nergal-Sar'etzer, Rav-Mag, with all the rest of the princes of the king of Bavel. 4 It happened that, when Tzidkiyahu the king of Yehudah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, through the gate between the two walls; and he went out toward the `Aravah. 5 But the army of the Kasdim pursued after them, and overtook Tzidkiyahu in the plains of Yericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel to Rivlah in the land of Hamat; and he gave judgment on him. 6 Then the king of Bavel killed the sons of Tzidkiyahu in Rivlah before his eyes: also the king of Bavel killed all the nobles of Yehudah. 7 Moreover he put out Tzidkiyahu's eyes, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Bavel. 8 The Kasdim burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Yerushalayim. 9 Then Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Bavel the residue of the people who remained in the city, the deserters also who fell away to him, and the residue of the people who remained.10 But Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, who had nothing, in the land of Yehudah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time. 11 Now Nevukhadretztzar king of Bavel gave charge concerning Yirmeyahu to Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard, saying, 12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do to him even as he shall tell you. 13 So Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard sent, and Nevushazban, Rav-Saris, and Nergal-Sar'etzer, Rav-Mag, and all the chief officers of the king of Bavel; 14 they sent, and took Yirmeyahu out of the court of the guard, and committed him to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan, that he should carry him home: so he lived among the people. 15 Now the word of the LORD came to Yirmeyahu, while he was shut up in the court of the guard, saying, 16 Go, and speak to `Eved-Melekh the Kushite, saying, Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Yisra'el: Behold, I will bring my words on this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished before you in that day. 17 But I will deliver you in that day, says the LORD; and you shall not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid. 18 For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but your life shall be for a prey to you; because you have put your trust in me, says the LORD.
40:1 The word which came to Yirmeyahu from the LORD, after that Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Yerushalayim and Yehudah, who were carried away captive to Bavel. 2 The captain of the guard took Yirmeyahu, and said to him, the LORD your God pronounced this evil on this place; 3 and the LORD has brought it, and done according as he spoke: because you have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come on you. 4 Now, behold, I loose you this day from the chains which are on your hand. If it seem good to you to come with me into Bavel, come, and I will look well to you; but if it seem ill to you to come with me into Bavel, forbear: behold, all the land is before you; where it seems good and right to you to go, there go. 5 Now while he was not yet gone back, Go back then, [said he], to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan, whom the king of Bavel has made governor over the cities of Yehudah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a present, and let him go. 6 Then went Yirmeyahu to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam to Mitzpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land. 7 Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Bavel had made Gedalyahu the son of Achikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Bavel; 8 then they came to Gedalyahu to Mitzpah, [to wit], Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, and Yochanan and Yonatan the sons of Kareach, and Serayah the son of Tanchumet, and the sons of `Efai the Netofatite, and Yezanyah the son of the Ma`akhatite, they and their men. 9 Gedalyahu the son of Achikam the son of Shafan swore to them and to their men, saying, Don't be afraid to serve the Kasdim: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Bavel, and it shall be well with you. 10 As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mitzpah, to stand before the Kasdim who shall come to us: but you, gather you wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken. 11 Likewise when all the Yehudim who were in Mo'av, and among the children of `Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Bavel had left a remnant of Yehudah, and that he had set over them Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, the son of Shafan; 12 then all the Yehudim returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Yehudah, to Gedalyahu, to Mitzpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much. 13 Moreover Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedalyahu to Mitzpah, 14 and said to him, Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of `Ammon has sent Yishma'el the son of Netanyah to take your life? But Gedalyahu the son of Achikam didn't believe them. 15 Then Yochanan the son of Kareach spoke to Gedalyahu in Mitzpah secretly, saying, Please let me go, and I will kill Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Yehudim who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Yehudah perish? 16 But Gedalyahu the son of Achikam said to Yochanan the son of Kareach, You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Yishma'el.
41:1 Now it happened in the seventh month, that Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal and [one of] the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam to Mitzpah; and there they ate bread together in Mitzpah. 2 Then arose Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedalyahu the son of Achikam the son of Shafan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Bavel had made governor over the land.
3 Yishma'el also killed all the Yehudim who were with him, [to wit], with Gedalyahu, at Mitzpah, and the Kasdim who were found there, the men of war. 4 It happened the second day after he had killed Gedalyahu, and no man knew it, 5 that there came men from Shekhem, from Shiloh, and from Shomron, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal-offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD. 6 Yishma'el the son of Netanyah went forth from Mitzpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went: and it happened, as he met them, he said to them, Come to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam. 7 It was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Yishma'el the son of Netanyah killed them, [and cast them] into the midst of the pit, he, and the men who were with him. 8 But ten men were found among those who said to Yishma'el, Don't kill us; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he stopped, and didn't kill them among their brothers. 9 Now the pit in which Yishma'el cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedalyahu (the same was who which Asa the king had made for fear of Ba`sha king of Yisra'el,) Yishma'el the son of Netanyah filled it with those who were killed. 10 Then Yishma'el carried away captive all the residue of the people who were in Mitzpah, even the king's daughters, and all the people who remained in Mitzpah, whom Nevuzar'adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedalyahu the son of Achikam; Yishma'el the son of Netanyah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of `Ammon. 11 But when Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, heard of all the evil that Yishma'el the son of Netanyah had done, 12 then they took all the men, and went to fight with Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, and found him by the great waters that are in Giv`on. 13 Now it happened that, when all the people who were with Yishma'el saw Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, then they were glad. 14 So all the people who Yishma'el had carried away captive from Mitzpah turned about and came back, and went to Yochanan the son of Kareach. 15 But Yishma'el the son of Netanyah escaped from Yochanan with eight men, and went to the children of `Ammon. 16 Then took Yochanan the son of Kareach, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Yishma'el the son of Netanyah, from Mitzpah, after that he had killed Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, [to wit], the men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Giv`on: 17 and they departed, and lived in Gerut-Kimaham, which is by Beit-Lechem, to go to enter into Mitzrayim, 18 because of the Kasdim; for they were afraid of them, because Yishma'el the son of Netanyah had killed Gedalyahu the son of Achikam, whom the king of Bavel made governor over the land.
NEW TESTAMENT: 2 TIMOTHY 1:1 - 18
1:1 Sha'ul, an apostle of Yeshua the Messiah through the will of God, according to the promise of the life which is in Messiah Yeshua,
2 to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and shalom, from God, the Father, and Messiah Yeshua, our Lord.
3 I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience. How unceasing is my memory of you in my petitions, night and day
4 longing to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5 having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in you; which lived first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and, I am persuaded, in you also.
6 For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
7 For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline.
8 Don't be ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me, his prisoner; but suffer hardship with the Good News according to the power of God,
9 who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Messiah Yeshua before times eternal,
10 but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior, Messiah Yeshua, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the Good News.
11 For this, I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Goyim.
12 For this cause I suffer also these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.
13 Hold the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which is in Messiah Yeshua.
14 That good thing which was committed to you, guard through the Ruach HaKodesh which dwells in us.
15 This you know, that all who are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes.
16 May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain,
17 but when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me
18 (the Lord grant to him to find the Lord's mercy in that day); and in how many things he served at Ephesus, you know very well.
John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
