In
the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

rises at one end of the heavens

nothing
is hidden from its heat.

The
law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving
the soul.
The
statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making
wise the simple.

The
precepts of the LORD are right,
giving
joy to the heart.
The
commands of the LORD are radiant,
giving
light to the eyes.

The
fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring
forever.

the harp I will expound my riddle:

Why
should I fear when evil days come,
when
wicked deceivers surround me--

those
who trust in their wealth
and
boast of their great riches?

No
man can redeem the life of another
or
give to God a ransom for him--
8
the
ransom for a life is costly,
no
payment is ever enough--

that
he should live on forever
and
not see decay.
10
For
all can see that wise men die;
the
foolish and the senseless alike perish
and
leave their wealth to others.

Their
tombs will remain their houses A

But
man, despite his riches, does not endure;

A
psalm of Asaph.
1
O
God, the nations have invaded your inheritance;
they
have defiled your holy temple,
they
have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.
2
They
have given the dead bodies of your servants
as
food to the birds of the air,
the
flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth.
3
They
have poured out blood like water
all
around Jerusalem,
and
there is no one to bury the dead.
4
We
are objects of reproach to our neighbors,
of
scorn and derision to those around us.
5
How
long, O LORD? Will you be angry forever?
How
long will your jealousy burn like fire?
6
Pour
out your wrath on the nations
that
do not acknowledge you,
on
the kingdoms
that
do not call on your name;
7
for
they have devoured Jacob
and
destroyed his homeland.

Do
not hold against us the sins of the fathers;
may
your mercy come quickly to meet us,

we are in desperate need.

Help

God, whom I praise,

not remain silent,

for
wicked and deceitful men
have
opened their mouths against me;
they
have spoken against me with lying tongues.

With
words of hatred they surround me;
they
attack me without cause.

In
return for my friendship they accuse me,
but
I am a man of prayer.
5
They
repay me evil for good,
and
hatred for my friendship.

Appoint

to oppose him;
let

he is tried, let him be found guilty,

1
Better a poor man whose walk is blameless
than
a fool whose lips are perverse.

It
is not good to have zeal without knowledge,
nor
to be hasty and miss the way.

A
man's own folly ruins his life,
yet
his heart rages against the LORD.
4
Wealth
brings many friends,
but
a poor man's friend deserts him.
5
A
false witness will not go unpunished,
and
he who pours out lies will not go free.
6
Many
curry favor with a ruler,
and
everyone is the friend of a man who gives gifts.
7
A
poor man is shunned by all his relatives--
how
much more do his friends avoid him!
Though
he pursues them with pleading,
they
are nowhere to be found. A

He
who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
he
who cherishes understanding prospers.
9
A
false witness will not go unpunished,
and
he who pours out lies will perish.

It
is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury--
how
much worse for a slave to rule over princes!

A
man's wisdom gives him patience;
it
is to his glory to overlook an offense. 12

king's rage is like the roar of a lion,
but
his favor is like dew on the grass.

A
foolish son is his father's ruin,
and
a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.

Houses
and wealth are inherited from parents,
but
a prudent wife is from the LORD.

Laziness
brings on deep sleep,
and
the shiftless man goes hungry.

He
who obeys instructions guards his life,
but
he who is contemptuous of his ways will die.
17
He
who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD,
and
he will reward him for what he has done.

Discipline
your son, for in that there is hope;
do
not be a willing party to his death.
19
A
hot-tempered man must pay the penalty;
if
you rescue him, you will have to do it again.
20
Listen
to advice and accept instruction,
and
in the end you will be wise.
21
Many
are the plans in a man's heart,
but
it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
22
What
a man desires is unfailing love B;
better
to be poor than a liar. 13
23
The
fear of the LORD leads to life:
Then
one rests content, untouched by trouble.
24
The
sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he
will not even bring it back to his mouth!
25
Flog
a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence;
rebuke
a discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.

He
who robs his father and drives out his mother
is
a son who brings shame and disgrace.
27
Stop
listening to instruction, my son,
and
you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28
A
corrupt witness mocks at justice,
and
the mouth of the wicked gulps down evil.

Penalties
are prepared for mockers,
and

TESTAMENT:
ISAIAH 1:1 - 2:22

1
The
vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw
during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of
Judah.
2
Hear,
O heavens! Listen, O earth!
For
the LORD has spoken:
"I
reared children and brought them up,
but
they have rebelled against me.
3
The ox knows his master,
the
donkey his owner's manger,
but
Israel does not know,
my
people do not understand."
4
Ah,
sinful nation,
a
people loaded with guilt,
a
brood of evildoers,
children
given to corruption!
They
have forsaken the LORD;
they
have spurned the Holy One of Israel
and
turned their backs on him.
5
Why
should you be beaten anymore?
Why
do you persist in rebellion?
Your
whole head is injured,
your
whole heart afflicted.
6
From
the sole of your foot to the top of your head
there
is no soundness-- 15
only
wounds and welts
and
open sores,
not
cleansed or bandaged
or
soothed with oil.
7
Your
country is desolate,
your
cities burned with fire;
your
fields are being stripped by foreigners
right
before you,
laid
waste as when overthrown by strangers.
8
The
Daughter of Zion is left
like
a shelter in a vineyard,
like
a hut in a field of melons,
like
a city under siege.
9
Unless
the LORD Almighty
had
left us some survivors,
we
would have become like Sodom,
we
would have been like Gomorrah.
10
Hear
the word of the LORD,
you
rulers of Sodom;
listen
to the law of our God,
you
people of Gomorrah!
11
"The
multitude of your sacrifices--
what
are they to me?"
says the LORD.
of
rams and the fat of fattened animals;
I
have no pleasure
in
the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.
12
When you come to appear before me,
who
has asked this of you,
this
trampling of my courts?
13
Stop bringing meaningless offerings!
Your
incense is detestable to me.
New
Moons, Sabbaths and convocations--
I
cannot bear your evil assemblies.
14
Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts
my
soul hates.
They
have become a burden to me;
I
am weary of bearing them.
15
When you spread out your hands in prayer,
I
will hide my eyes from you;
even
if you offer many prayers,
I
will not listen.
Your
hands are full of blood;
16
wash and make yourselves clean.
Take
your evil deeds
out
of my sight!
Stop
doing wrong,
17
learn to do right! 17
Seek
justice,
encourage
the oppressed. A
Defend
the cause of the fatherless,
plead
the case of the widow.
18
"Come now, let us reason together,"
says
the LORD.
"Though
your sins are like scarlet,
they
shall be as white as snow;
though
they are red as crimson,
they
shall be like wool.
19
If you are willing and obedient,
you
will eat the best from the land;
20
but if you resist and rebel,
you
will be devoured by the sword."
For
the mouth of the LORD has spoken.
21
See how the faithful city
has
become a harlot!
She
once was full of justice;
righteousness
used to dwell in her--
but
now murderers!
22
Your silver has become dross,
your
choice wine is diluted with water. 18
23
Your rulers are rebels,
companions
of thieves;
they
all love bribes
and
chase after gifts.
They
do not defend the cause of the fatherless;
the
widow's case does not come before them.
24
Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty,
the
Mighty One of Israel, declares:
"Ah,
I will get relief from my foes
and
avenge myself on my enemies.
25
I will turn my hand against you;
I
will thoroughly purge away your dross
and
remove all your impurities.
26
I will restore your judges as in days of old,
your
counselors as at the beginning.
Afterward
you will be called
the
City of Righteousness,
the
Faithful City."
27
Zion
will be redeemed with justice,
her
penitent ones with righteousness.
28
But
rebels and sinners will both be broken,
and
those who forsake the LORD will perish.
29
"You
will be ashamed because of the sacred oaks
in
which you have delighted;
you
will be disgraced because of the gardens 19
that
you have chosen.
30
You will be like an oak with fading leaves,
like
a garden without water.
31
The mighty man will become tinder
and
his work a spark;
both
will burn together,
with
no one to quench the fire."

This
is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

In
the last days
the
mountain of the LORD's temple will be established
as
chief among the mountains;
it
will be raised above the hills,
and
all nations will stream to it.
3
Many
peoples will come and say,
"Come,
let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
to
the house of the God of Jacob.
He
will teach us his ways,
so
that we may walk in his paths."
The
law will go out from Zion,
the
word of the LORD from Jerusalem. 20
4
He
will judge between the nations
and
will settle disputes for many peoples.
They
will beat their swords into plowshares
and
their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation
will not take up sword against nation,
nor
will they train for war anymore.
5
Come,
O house of Jacob,
let
us walk in the light of the LORD.
6
You
have abandoned your people,
the
house of Jacob.
They
are full of superstitions from the East;
they
practice divination like the Philistines
and
clasp hands with pagans.
7
Their
land is full of silver and gold;
there
is no end to their treasures.
Their
land is full of horses;
there
is no end to their chariots.
8
Their
land is full of idols;
they
bow down to the work of their hands,
to
what their fingers have made.
9
So
man will be brought low
and
mankind humbled--
10
Go
into the rocks,
hide
in the ground
from
dread of the LORD
and
the splendor of his majesty!
11
The
eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled
and
the pride of men brought low;
the
LORD alone will be exalted in that day.
12
The
LORD Almighty has a day in store
for
all the proud and lofty,
for
all that is exalted
(and
they will be humbled),
13
for
all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty,
and
all the oaks of Bashan,
14
for
all the towering mountains
and
all the high hills,
15
for
every lofty tower
and
every fortified wall,
16
for
every trading ship B
and
every stately vessel.
17
The
arrogance of man will be brought low
and
the pride of men humbled;
the
LORD alone will be exalted in that day,
18
and the idols will totally disappear.
19
Men
will flee to caves in the rocks
and
to holes in the ground 22
from
dread of the LORD
and
the splendor of his majesty,
when
he rises to shake the earth.
20
In
that day men will throw away
to
the rodents and bats
their
idols of silver and idols of gold,
which
they made to worship.
21
They
will flee to caverns in the rocks
and
to the overhanging crags
from
dread of the LORD
and
the splendor of his majesty,
when
he rises to shake the earth.
22
Stop
trusting in man,
who
has but a breath in his nostrils.

2 CORINTHIANS 10:1 - 18

1
By
the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you--I, Paul, who
am "timid" when face to face with you, but "bold"
when away! 2
I
beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to
be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this
world. 3
For
though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4
The
weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the
contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5
We
demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against
the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it
obedient to Christ. 6
And
we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your
obedience is complete.
7
You
are looking only on the surface of things. A
If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should consider
again that we belong to Christ just as much as he. 8
For
even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us
for building you up rather than pulling you down, I will not be
ashamed of it. 9
I
do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10
For
some say, "His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person
he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing." 11
Such
people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are
absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.
12
We
do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend
themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare
themselves with themselves, they are not 24
wise. 13
We,
however, will not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine our
boasting to the field God has assigned to us, a field that reaches
even to you. 14
We
are not going too far in our boasting, as would be the case if we had
not come to you, for we did get as far as you with the gospel of
Christ. 15
Neither
do we go beyond our limits by boasting of work done by others. B
Our hope is that, as your faith continues to grow, our area of
activity among you will greatly expand, 16
so
that we can preach the gospel in the regions beyond you. For we do
not want to boast about work already done in another man's territory.
17
But,
"Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." C
18
For
it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one
whom the Lord commends. 25

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." H
