LORD, the king rejoices in your strength.

great is his joy in the victories you give!

have granted him the desire of his heart

welcomed him with rich blessings

placed a crown of pure gold on his head.

He
asked you for life, and you gave it to him--
length
of days, for ever and ever.
5
Through
the victories you gave, his glory is great;
you
have bestowed on him splendor and majesty.

Surely
you have granted him eternal blessings
and
made him glad with the joy of your presence.

For
the king trusts in the LORD;
through
the unfailing love of the Most High
he
will not be shaken.

hand will lay hold on all your enemies;

At

will make them like a fiery furnace.
In
his wrath the LORD will swallow them up,

Have
mercy on me, O God,
according
to your unfailing love;

to your great compassion
blot
out my transgressions.

Wash
away all my iniquity

cleanse me from my sin.

For
I know my transgressions,
and
my sin is always before me.

Against
you, you only, have I sinned
and
done what is evil in your sight,
so
that you are proved right when you speak
and
justified when you judge.

for joy to God our strength;
shout

Begin
the music, strike the tambourine,

Sound
the ram's horn at the New Moon,

when the moon is full, on the day of our Feast;

this
is a decree for Israel,
an
ordinance of the God of Jacob.

He
established it as a statute for Joseph
when
he went out against Egypt,
where
we heard a language we did not understand. B

removed the burden from their shoulders;

Praise
A
the LORD. B
I
will extol the LORD with all my heart
in
the council of the upright and in the assembly.
2
Great
are the works of the LORD;
they
are pondered by all who delight in them.
3
Glorious
and majestic are his deeds,
and
his righteousness endures forever.
4
He
has caused his wonders to be remembered;
the
LORD is gracious and compassionate.
5
He
provides food for those who fear him;
he
remembers his covenant forever.
6
He
has shown his people the power of his works,
giving
them the lands of other nations.
7
The
works of his hands are faithful and just;
all
his precepts are trustworthy.

They
are steadfast for ever and ever,

in faithfulness and uprightness.

provided redemption for his people;

holy
and awesome is his name.

O
LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me.
Hear
my voice when I call to you.

May
my prayer be set before you like incense;
may
the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

Set
a guard over my mouth, O LORD;
keep
watch over the door of my lips.
4
Let
not my heart be drawn to what is evil,
to
take part in wicked deeds
with
men who are evildoers;
let
me not eat of their delicacies.
5
Let
a righteous man A
strike me--it is a kindness;
let
him rebuke me--it is oil on my head.
My
head will not refuse it.
Yet
my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;

their
rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs,
and
the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.

They
will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth,
so
our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave. B"

But
my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD;

me from the snares they have laid for me,

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD;
he
directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

All
a man's ways seem right to him,
but
the LORD weighs the heart.
3
To
do what is right and just
is
more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4
Haughty
eyes and a proud heart,
the
lamp of the wicked, are sin!
5
The
plans of the diligent lead to profit
as
surely as haste leads to poverty.
6
A
fortune made by a lying tongue
is
a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare. A
7
The
violence of the wicked will drag them away,
for
they refuse to do what is right.
8
The
way of the guilty is devious,
but
the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9
Better
to live on a corner of the roof
than
share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
10
The
wicked man craves evil;
his
neighbor gets no mercy from him. 9

When
a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom;
when
a wise man is instructed, he gets knowledge.

The
Righteous One B
takes note of the house of the wicked
and
brings the wicked to ruin.

If
a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor,
he
too will cry out and not be answered.

A
gift given in secret soothes anger,
and
a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies great wrath.

When
justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous
but
terror to evildoers.

A
man who strays from the path of understanding
comes
to rest in the company of the dead.

He
who loves pleasure will become poor;
whoever
loves wine and oil will never be rich.

The
wicked become a ransom for the righteous,
and
the unfaithful for the upright.

Better
to live in a desert
than
with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.

In
the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil,
but
a foolish man devours all he has.

He
who pursues righteousness and love

A
wise man attacks the city of the mighty
and
pulls down the stronghold in which they trust.

He
who guards his mouth and his tongue
keeps
himself from calamity.

The
proud and arrogant man--"Mocker" is his name;
he
behaves with overweening pride.

The
sluggard's craving will be the death of him,
because
his hands refuse to work.

All
day long he craves for more,
but
the righteous give without sparing.

The
sacrifice of the wicked is detestable--
how
much more so when brought with evil intent!

A
false witness will perish,
and
whoever listens to him will be destroyed forever. D

A
wicked man puts up a bold front,
but
an upright man gives thought to his ways.

There
is no wisdom, no insight, no plan
that
can succeed against the LORD.

The
horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but

1
In
the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne,
high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2
Above
him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered
their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were
flying. 3
And
they were calling to one another:
"Holy,
holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the
whole earth is full of his glory." 4
At
the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the
temple was filled with smoke.
5
"Woe
to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean
lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have
seen the King, the LORD Almighty."
6
Then
one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he
had taken with tongs from the altar. 7
With
it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your
lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."
8
Then
I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom
shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And
I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
9
He
said, "Go
and tell this people:
"`Be
ever hearing, but never understanding;
be
ever seeing, but never perceiving.'
10Make
the heart of this people calloused;
make
their ears dull
and
close their eyes. A
Otherwise
they might see with their eyes, 12
hear
with their ears,
understand
with their hearts,
and
turn and be healed."
11
Then
I said, "For how long, O Lord?"
And
he answered:
"Until
the cities lie ruined
and
without inhabitant,
until
the houses are left deserted
and
the fields ruined and ravaged,
12
until the LORD has sent everyone far away
and
the land is utterly forsaken.
13
And though a tenth remains in the land,
it
will again be laid waste.
But
as the terebinth and oak
leave
stumps when they are cut down,
so
the holy seed will be the stump in the land."

When
Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin
of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight
against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.
2
Now
the house of David was told, "Aram has allied itself with A
Ephraim"; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, 13as
the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.
3
Then
the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go
out, you and your son Shear-Jashub, B
to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the
road to the Washerman's Field. 4
Say to him, `Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose
heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood--because of
the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah. 5
Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah's son have plotted your ruin, saying, 6
"Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among
ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it."
7
Yet
this is what the Sovereign LORD says:
"`It
will not take place,
it
will not happen,
8
for the head of Aram is Damascus,
and
the head of Damascus is only Rezin.
Within
sixty-five years
Ephraim
will be too shattered to be a people.
9
The head of Ephraim is Samaria,
and
the head of Samaria is only Remaliah's son.
If
you do not stand firm in your faith,
you
will not stand at all.'"
10
Again
the LORD spoke to Ahaz, 11
"Ask
the LORD your God for 14
a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights."
12
But
Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the
test."
13
Then
Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to
try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also? 14
Therefore
the Lord himself will give you C
a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son,
and D
will call him Immanuel. E
15
He
will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and
choose the right. 16
But
before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,
the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste. 17
The
LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your
father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah--he will
bring the king of Assyria."
18
In
that day the LORD will whistle for flies from the distant streams of
Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.
19
They
will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices in
the rocks, on all the thornbushes and at all the water holes. 20
In
that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the River F--the
king of Assyria--to shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to
take off your beards also. 21
In
that day, a man will keep alive a young cow and two goats. 22
And
because of the abundance of the milk they give, he will have curds to
eat. All who remain in the land will eat 15
curds and honey. 23
In
that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a
thousand silver shekels, G
there will be only briers and thorns. 24
Men
will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with
briers and thorns. 25
As
for all the hills once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go
there for fear of the briers and thorns; they will become places
where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run. 16

2 CORITHIANS 11:16 - 33

I
repeat: Let no one take me for a fool. But if you do, then receive me
just as you would a fool, so that I may do a little boasting. 17
In
this self-confident boasting I am not talking as the Lord would, but
as a fool. 18
Since
many are boasting in the way the world does, I too will boast. 19
You
gladly put up with fools since you are so wise! 20
In
fact, you even put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or
takes advantage of you or pushes himself forward or slaps you in the
face. 21
To
my shame I admit that we were too weak for that!
What
anyone else dares to boast about--I am speaking as a fool--I also
dare to boast about. 22
Are
they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they
Abraham's descendants? So am I. 23
Are
they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I
am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently,
been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and
again. 17
24
Five
times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. 25
Three
times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was
shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, 26
I
have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers,
in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger
from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in
danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. 27
I
have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have
known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been
cold and naked.
28
Besides
everything else, I face daily the pressure of my concern for all the
churches.
29
Who
is weak, and I do not feel weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not
inwardly burn?
30
If
I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness. 31
The
God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who is to be praised forever, knows
that I am not lying. 32
In
Damascus the governor under King Aretas had the city of the
Damascenes guarded in order to arrest me. 33
But
I was lowered in a basket from a window in the wall and slipped
