Praise
the LORD. A
Give
thanks to the LORD, for he is good;
his
love endures forever.

Who
can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD
or
fully declare his praise?
3Blessed
are they who maintain justice,
who
constantly do what is right.
4
Remember
me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people,
come
to my aid when you save them,
5
that
I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that
I may share in the joy of your nation
and
join your inheritance in giving praise.
6
We
have sinned, even as our fathers did;
we
have done wrong and acted wickedly.
7
When
our fathers were in Egypt,
they
gave no thought to your miracles;
they
did not remember your many kindnesses,
and
they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. B

Yet
he saved them for his name's sake,
to
make his mighty power known.

He
rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up;
he
led them through the depths as through a desert.

saved them from the hand of the foe;

the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.

of Aaron, who was consecrated to the LORD.

earth opened up and swallowed Dathan;
it
buried the company of Abiram.

Fire
blazed among their followers;

flame consumed the wicked.

At
Horeb they made a calf
and
worshiped an idol cast from metal.

They
exchanged their Glory
for
an image of a bull, which eats grass.

They
forgot the God who saved them,
who
had done great things in Egypt,
22
miracles
in the land of Ham
and
awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23
So
he said he would destroy them--
had
not Moses, his chosen one,
stood
in the breach before him
to
keep his wrath from destroying them.
24
Then
they despised the pleasant land;
they
did not believe his promise.
25
They
grumbled in their tents
and
did not obey the LORD.
26
So
he swore to them with uplifted hand
that
he would make them fall in the desert,
27
make
their descendants fall among the nations 7
and
scatter them throughout the lands.
28
They
yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor
and
ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29
they
provoked the LORD to anger by their wicked deeds,
and
a plague broke out among them.
30
But
Phinehas stood up and intervened,
and
the plague was checked.
31
This
was credited to him as righteousness
for
endless generations to come.
32
By
the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD,
and
trouble came to Moses because of them;
33
for
they rebelled against the Spirit of God,
and
rash words came from Moses' lips. C

They
did not destroy the peoples
as
the LORD had commanded them,
35
but
they mingled with the nations
and
adopted their customs.
36
They
worshiped their idols,
which
became a snare to them.

They
sacrificed their sons
and
their daughters to demons.

They
shed innocent blood,

blood of their sons and daughters,
whom
they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and
the land was desecrated by their blood.

They
defiled themselves by what they did;
by
their deeds they prostituted themselves.

the LORD was angry with his people

handed them over to the nations,

enemies oppressed them
and

times he delivered them,

he took note of their distress

1
To man belong the plans of the heart,
but
from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.

All
a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but
motives are weighed by the LORD.

Commit
to the LORD whatever you do,
and
your plans will succeed.
4
The
LORD works out everything for his own ends--
even
the wicked for a day of disaster.
5
The
LORD detests all the proud of heart.
Be
sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
6
Through
love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through
the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.
7
When
a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD,
he
makes even his enemies live at peace with him.

a little with righteousness
than
much gain with injustice.

In
his heart a man plans his course,

the LORD determines his steps.

lips of a king speak as an oracle,

Oh,
my anguish, my anguish!
I
writhe in pain.
Oh,
the agony of my heart!
My
heart pounds within me,
I
cannot keep silent.
For
I have heard the sound of the trumpet;
I
have heard the battle cry.
20
Disaster
follows disaster;
the
whole land lies in ruins.
In
an instant my tents are destroyed,
my
shelter in a moment.
21
How
long must I see the battle standard
and
hear the sound of the trumpet?
22
"My
people are fools;
they
do not know me.
They
are senseless children;
they
have no understanding.
They
are skilled in doing evil;
they
know not how to do good."
23
I
looked at the earth,
and
it was formless and empty;
and
at the heavens,
and
their light was gone. 15
24
I
looked at the mountains,
and
they were quaking;
all
the hills were swaying.
25
I
looked, and there were no people;
every
bird in the sky had flown away.
26
I
looked, and the fruitful land was a desert;
all
its towns lay in ruins
before
the LORD, before his fierce anger.
27
This
is what the LORD says:
"The
whole land will be ruined,
though
I will not destroy it completely.
28
Therefore the earth will mourn
and
the heavens above grow dark,
because
I have spoken and will not relent,
I
have decided and will not turn back."

At
the sound of horsemen and archers
every
town takes to flight.
Some
go into the thickets;
some
climb up among the rocks.
All
the towns are deserted;
no
one lives in them.

What
are you doing, O devastated one? 16
Why
dress yourself in scarlet
and
put on jewels of gold?
Why
shade your eyes with paint?
You
adorn yourself in vain.
Your
lovers despise you;
they
seek your life.

I
hear a cry as of a woman in labor,
a
groan as of one bearing her first child--
the
cry of the Daughter of Zion gasping for breath,
stretching
out her hands and saying,
"Alas!
I am fainting;
my
life is given over to murderers."

"Go
up and down the streets of Jerusalem,
look
around and consider,
search
through her squares.
If
you can find but one person
who
deals honestly and seeks the truth,
I
will forgive this city.
2
Although
they say, `As surely as the LORD lives,'
still
they are swearing falsely." 17

O
LORD, do not your eyes look for truth?
You
struck them, but they felt no pain;
you
crushed them, but they refused correction.
They
made their faces harder than stone
and
refused to repent.
4
I
thought, "These are only the poor;
they
are foolish,
for
they do not know the way of the LORD,
the
requirements of their God.
5
So
I will go to the leaders
and
speak to them;
surely
they know the way of the LORD,
the
requirements of their God."
But
with one accord they too had broken off the yoke
and
torn off the bonds.
6
Therefore
a lion from the forest will attack them,
a
wolf from the desert will ravage them,
a
leopard will lie in wait near their towns
to
tear to pieces any who venture out,
for
their rebellion is great
and
their backslidings many.

"Why
should I forgive you?
Your
children have forsaken me
and
sworn by gods that are not gods.
I
supplied all their needs,
yet
they committed adultery 18
and
thronged to the houses of prostitutes.
8
They are well-fed, lusty stallions,
each
neighing for another man's wife.
9
Should I not punish them for this?"
declares
the LORD.
"Should
I not avenge myself
on
such a nation as this?
10
"Go through her vineyards and ravage them,
but
do not destroy them completely.
Strip
off her branches,
for
these people do not belong to the LORD.
11
The house of Israel and the house of Judah
have
been utterly unfaithful to me,"
declares
the LORD.
12
They
have lied about the LORD;
they
said, "He will do nothing!
No
harm will come to us;
we
will never see sword or famine.
13
The
prophets are but wind
and
the word is not in them;
so
let what they say be done to them." 19
14
Therefore
this is what the LORD God Almighty says:
"Because
the people have spoken these words,
I
will make my words in your mouth a fire
and
these people the wood it consumes.
15
O house of Israel,"
declares the LORD,
"I
am bringing a distant nation against you--
an
ancient and enduring nation,
a
people whose language you do not know,
whose
speech you do not understand.
16
Their quivers are like an open grave;
all
of them are mighty warriors.
17
They will devour your harvests and food,
devour
your sons and daughters;
they
will devour your flocks and herds,
devour
your vines and fig trees.
With
the sword they will destroy
the
fortified cities in which you trust.
18
"Yet
even in those days,"
declares the LORD, "I
will not destroy you completely.
19
And when the people ask, `Why has the LORD our God done all this to
us?'
you will tell them, `As
you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your own land, so now
you will serve foreigners in a land not your own.'
20
"Announce
this to the house of Jacob
and
proclaim it in Judah:
21
Hear this, you foolish and senseless people,
who
have eyes but do not see, 20
who
have ears but do not hear:
22
Should you not fear me?"
declares the LORD.
"Should
you not tremble in my presence?
I
made the sand a boundary for the sea,
an
everlasting barrier it cannot cross.
The
waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
they
may roar, but they cannot cross it.
23
But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts;
they
have turned aside and gone away.
24
They do not say to themselves,
`Let
us fear the LORD our God,
who
gives autumn and spring rains in season,
who
assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.'
25
Your wrongdoings have kept these away;
your
sins have deprived you of good.
26
"Among my people are wicked men
who
lie in wait like men who snare birds
and
like those who set traps to catch men.
27
Like cages full of birds,
their
houses are full of deceit;
they
have become rich and powerful
28
and have grown fat and sleek.
Their
evil deeds have no limit;
they
do not plead the case of the fatherless to win it,
they
do not defend the rights of the poor.

Should I not punish them for this?"
declares
the LORD.
"Should
I not avenge myself
on
such a nation as this?
30
"A horrible and shocking thing
has
happened in the land:
31
The prophets prophesy lies,
the
priests rule by their own authority,
and
my people love it this way.
But
what will you do in the end?

"Flee for safety, people of Benjamin!
Flee
from Jerusalem!
Sound
the trumpet in Tekoa!
Raise
the signal over Beth Hakkerem!
For
disaster looms out of the north,
even
terrible destruction.
2
I will destroy the Daughter of Zion,
so
beautiful and delicate.
3
Shepherds with their flocks will come against her;
they
will pitch their tents around her,
each
tending his own portion."
Arise,
let us attack at noon!
But,
alas, the daylight is fading,
and
the shadows of evening grow long.
5
So arise, let us attack at night
and
destroy her fortresses!"
6
This
is what the LORD Almighty says:
"Cut
down the trees
and
build siege ramps against Jerusalem.
This
city must be punished;
it
is filled with oppression.
7
As a well pours out its water,
so
she pours out her wickedness.
Violence
and destruction resound in her;
her
sickness and wounds are ever before me.
8
Take warning, O Jerusalem,
or
I will turn away from you
and
make your land desolate
so
no one can live in it."
9
This
is what the LORD Almighty says:
"Let
them glean the remnant of Israel
as
thoroughly as a vine;
like
one gathering grapes."
10
To
whom can I speak and give warning?
Who
will listen to me?
Their
ears are closed A
so
they cannot hear.
The
word of the LORD is offensive to them;
they
find no pleasure in it.
11
But
I am full of the wrath of the LORD,
and
I cannot hold it in.
"Pour
it out on the children in the street
and
on the young men gathered together;
both
husband and wife will be caught in it,
and
the old, those weighed down with years.
12
Their houses will be turned over to others,
together
with their fields and their wives,
when
I stretch out my hand
against
those who live in the land,"
declares
the LORD.

"From
the least to the greatest,
all
are greedy for gain;
prophets
and priests alike,
all
practice deceit.

They dress the wound of my people
as
though it were not serious.
`Peace,
peace,' they say,
when
there is no peace.

Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct?
No,
they have no shame at all;

COLOSSIANS 1:18 - 2:7

And
he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the
firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have
the supremacy. 19
For
God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20
and
through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on
earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on
the cross.
21
Once
you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of
F
your evil behavior. 22
But
now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to
present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from
accusation—23
if
you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the
hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and
that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which
I, Paul, have become a servant.
24
Now
I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh
what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake
of his body, which is the church. 25
I
have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to
you the word of God in its fullness—26
the
mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is
now disclosed to the saints. 27
To
them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious
riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
28
We
proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so
that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. 29
To
this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully
works in me.

I
want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at
Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. 2
My
purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love,
so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in
order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3
in
whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4
I
tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding
arguments. 5
For
though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit
and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in
Christ is.

So
then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in
him, 7
rooted
and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught,
and overflowing with thankfulness. 26

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
