FEBRUARY 24

PSALMS: 24, 54, 84, 114, 144

PROVERBS: 24

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 SAMUEL 18:5 - 19:24

NEW TESTAMENT: JOHN 8:31 - 59

PSALMS: 24

1 The eretz is the LORD's, with its fullness;

The world, and those who dwell therein.

2 For he has founded it on the seas,

And established it on the floods.

3 Who may ascend to the LORD's hill?

Who may stand in his holy place?

4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart;

Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood,

And has not sworn deceitfully.

5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,

Righteousness from the God of his salvation.

6 This is the generation of those who seek Him,

Who seek your face -- even Ya`akov.

Selah.

7 Lift up your heads, you gates;

Be lifted up, you everlasting doors:

The King of glory will come in.

8 Who is the King of glory?

The LORD strong and mighty,

The LORD mighty in battle.

9 Lift up your heads, you gates;

Yes, lift them up, you everlasting doors:

The King of glory will come in.

10 Who is this King of glory?

The LORD of Hosts,

He is the King of glory.

Selah.

PSALMS: 54

1 Save me, God, by your name.

Vindicate me in your might.

2 Hear my prayer, God.

Listen to the words of my mouth.

3 For strangers have risen up against me.

Violent men have sought after my soul.

They haven't set God before them.

Selah.

4 Behold, God is my helper.

The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.

5 He will repay the evil to my enemies.

Destroy them in your truth.

6 With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you.

I will give thanks to your name, LORD, for it is good.

7 For he has delivered me out of all trouble.

My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.

PSALMS: 84

1 How lovely are your dwellings,

LORD of Hosts!

2 My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD.

My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

3 Yes, the sparrow has found a home,

And the swallow a nest for herself,

where she may have her young,

Near your altars, LORD of Hosts,

My King, and my God.

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house.

They are always praising you. Selah.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in you;

Who have set their hearts on a pilgrimage.

6 Passing through the valley of Weeping,

they make it a place of springs.

Yes, the autumn rain covers it with blessings.

7 They go from strength to strength.

Everyone of them appears before God in Tziyon.

8 LORD, God Tzva'ot, hear my prayer.

Listen, God of Ya`akov.

Selah.

9 Behold, God our shield,

Look at the face of your anointed.

10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,

Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the LORD God is a sun and a shield.

The LORD will give grace and glory.

He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

12 LORD of Hosts,

Blessed is the man who trusts in you.

PSALMS: 114

1 When Yisra'el went forth out of Mitzrayim,

The house of Ya`akov from a people of foreign language;

2 Yehudah became his sanctuary,

Yisra'el his dominion.

3 The sea saw it, and fled.

The Yarden was driven back.

4 The mountains skipped like rams,

The little hills like lambs.

5 What was it, you sea, that you fled?

You Yarden, that you turned back?

6 You mountains, that you skipped like rams;

You little hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, you eretz, at the presence of the Lord,

At the presence of the God of Ya`akov,

8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water,

The flint into a spring of waters.

PSALMS: 144

1 Blessed be the LORD, my rock,

Who teaches my hands to war,

And my fingers to battle:

2 My loving kindness, my fortress,

My high tower, my deliverer,

My shield, and he in whom I take refuge;

Who subdues my people under me.

3 LORD, what is man, that you care for him?

Or the son of man, that you think of him?

4 Man is like a breath.

His days are like a shadow that passes away.

5 Part your heavens, LORD, and come down.

Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.

6 Throw out lightning, and scatter them.

Send out your arrows, and rout them.

7 Stretch out your hand from above,

Rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters,

Out of the hands of foreigners;

8 Whose mouths speak deceit,

Whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

9 I will sing a new song to you, God.

On a ten-stringed lyre,

I will sing praises to you.

10 You are he who gives salvation to kings,

Who rescues David, his servant, from the deadly sword.

11 Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hands of foreigners,

Whose mouths speak deceit,

Whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.

12 Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants,

Our daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace.

13 Our barns are full, filled with all kinds of provision.

Our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields.

14 Our oxen will pull heavy loads.

There is no breaking in, and no going away,

And no outcry in our streets.

15 Happy are the people who are in such a situation.

Happy are the people whose God is the LORD.

PROVERBS: 24

1 Don't you be envious against evil men;

Neither desire to be with them:

2 For their hearts plot violence,

And their lips talk about mischief.

3 Through wisdom a house is built;

By understanding it is established;

4 By knowledge the rooms are filled

With all rare and beautiful treasure.

5 A wise man has great power;

And a knowledgeable man increases strength;

6 For by wise guidance you wage your war;

And victory is in many advisors.

7 Wisdom is too high for a fool:

He doesn't open his mouth in the gate.

8 One who plots to do evil

Will be called a schemer.

9 The schemes of folly are sin.

The mocker is detested by men.

10 If you falter in the time of trouble,

Your strength is small.

11 Rescue those who are being led away to death!

Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!

12 If you say,

"Behold, we didn't know this;"

Doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it?

He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it?

Shall he not render to every man according to his work?

13 My son, eat honey, for it is good;

The droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:

14 So you shall know wisdom to be to your soul;

If you have found it, then will there be a reward,

Your hope will not be cut off.

15 Don't lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous.

Don't destroy his resting-place:

16 For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again;

But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

17 Don't rejoice when your enemy falls.

Don't let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;

18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him,

And he turn away his wrath from him.

19 Don't fret yourself because of evildoers;

Neither be envious of the wicked:

20 For there will be no reward to the evil man;

And the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.

21 My son, fear the LORD and the king.

Don't join those who are rebellious:

22 For their calamity will rise suddenly;

The destruction from them both -- who knows?

23 These also are sayings of the wise.

To show partiality in judgment is not good.

24 He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous;"

Peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him --

25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty,

And a rich blessing will come on them.

26 An honest answer Is like a kiss on the lips.

27 Prepare your work outside.

Make it ready for you in the field.

Afterwards, build your house.

28 Don't be a witness against your neighbor without cause.

Don't deceive with your lips.

29 Don't say, "I will do to him as he has done to me;

I will render to the man according to his work."

30 I went by the field of the sluggard,

By the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

31 Behold, it was all grown over with thorns.

Its surface was covered with nettles,

And its stone wall was broken down.

32 Then I saw, and considered well.

I saw, and received instruction:

33 A little sleep, a little slumber,

A little folding of the hands to sleep;

34 So shall your poverty come as a robber,

And your want as an armed man.

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 SAMUEL 18:5 - 19:24

18:5 David went out wherever Sha'ul sent him, [and] behaved himself wisely: and Sha'ul set him over the men of war, and it was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Sha'ul's servants. 6 It happened as they came, when David returned from the slaughter of the Pelishti, that the women came out of all the cities of Yisra'el, singing and dancing, to meet king Sha'ul, with timbrels, with joy, and with instruments of music. 7  The women sang one to another as they played, and said, Sha'ul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands. 8 Sha'ul was very angry, and this saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom? 9 Sha'ul eyed David from that day and forward. 10 It happened on the next day, that an evil spirit from God came mightily on Sha'ul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Sha'ul had his spear in his hand; 11 and Sha'ul cast the spear; for he said, I will strike David even to the wall. David avoided out of his presence twice. 12 Sha'ul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Sha'ul. 13 Therefore Sha'ul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people. 14 David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him. 15 When Sha'ul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he stood in awe of him. 16 But all Yisra'el and Yehudah loved David; for he went out and came in before them. 17 Sha'ul said to David, Behold, my elder daughter Merav, her will I give you as wife: only be valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles. For Sha'ul said, Don't let my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Pelishtim be on him. 18 David said to Sha'ul, Who am I, and what is my life, [or] my father's family in Yisra'el, that I should be son-in-law to the king? 19 But it happened at the time when Merav, Sha'ul's daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to `Adri'el the Mecholati as wife. 20 Mikhal, Sha'ul's daughter, loved David: and they told Sha'ul, and the thing pleased him. 21 Sha'ul said, I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Pelishtim may be against him. Therefore Sha'ul said to David, You shall this day be my son-in-law a second time. 22 Sha'ul commanded his servants, [saying], Commune with David secretly, and say, Behold, the king has delight in you, and all his servants love you: now therefore be the king's son-in-law. 23 Sha'ul's servants spoke those words in the ears of David. David said, Seems it to you a light thing to be the king's son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed? 24 The servants of Sha'ul told him, saying, On this manner spoke David. 25 Sha'ul said, Thus shall you tell David, The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Pelishtim, to be avenged of the king's enemies. Now Sha'ul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Pelishtim. 26 When his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king's son-in-law. The days were not expired; 27 and David arose and went, he and his men, and killed of the Pelishtim two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full number to the king, that he might be the king's son-in-law. Sha'ul gave him Mikhal his daughter as wife. 28 Sha'ul saw and knew that the LORD was with David; and Mikhal, Sha'ul's daughter, loved him. 29 Sha'ul was yet the more afraid of David; and Sha'ul was David's enemy continually. 30 Then the princes of the Pelishtim went forth: and it happened, as often as they went forth, that David behaved himself more wisely than all the servants of Sha'ul; so that his name was much set by.

19:1 Sha'ul spoke to Yonatan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Yonatan, Sha'ul's son, delighted much in David. 2 Yonatan told David, saying, Sha'ul my father seeks to kill you: now therefore, please take care of yourself in the morning, and live in a secret place, and hide yourself: 3 and I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will commune with my father of you; and if I see anything, I will tell you. 4 Yonatan spoke good of David to Sha'ul his father, and said to him, Don't let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you: 5 for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Pelishti, and the LORD worked a great victory for all Yisra'el: you saw it, and did rejoice; why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause? 6 Sha'ul listened to the voice of Yonatan: and Sha'ul swore, As the LORD lives, he shall not be put to death. 7 Yonatan called David, and Yonatan shown him all those things. Yonatan brought David to Sha'ul, and he was in his presence, as before. 8 There was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Pelishtim, and killed them with a great slaughter; and they fled before him. 9 An evil spirit from the LORD was on Sha'ul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand; and David was playing with his hand. 10 Sha'ul sought to strike David even to the wall with the spear; but he slipped away out of Sha'ul's presence, and he struck the spear into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night. 11 Sha'ul sent messengers to David's house, to watch him, and to kill him in the morning: and Mikhal, David's wife, told him, saying, If you don't save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be slain. 12 So Mikhal let David down through the window: and he went, and fled, and escaped. 13 Mikhal took the terafim, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' [hair] at the head of it, and covered it with the clothes. 14 When Sha'ul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick. 15 Sha'ul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him. 16 When the messengers came in, behold, the terafim was in the bed, with the pillow of goats' [hair] at the head of it.17  Sha'ul said to Mikhal, Why have you deceived me thus, and let my enemy go, so that he is escaped? Mikhal answered Sha'ul, He said to me, Let me go; why should I kill you? 18 Now David fled, and escaped, and came to Shemu'el to Ramah, and told him all that Sha'ul had done to him. He and Shemu'el went and lived in Nayot. 19 It was told Sha'ul, saying, Behold, David is at Nayot in Ramah. 20 Sha'ul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Shemu'el standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came on the messengers of Sha'ul, and they also prophesied. 21 When it was told Sha'ul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. Sha'ul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied. 22 Then went he also to Ramah, and came to the great well that is in Sekhu: and he asked and said, Where are Shemu'el and David? One said, Behold, they are at Nayot in Ramah. 23 He went there to Nayot in Ramah: and the Spirit of God came on him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Nayot in Ramah. 24 He also stripped off his clothes, and he also prophesied before Shemu'el, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Therefore they say, "Is Sha'ul also among the prophets?"

NEW TESTAMENT: JOHN 8:31 - 59

8:31 Yeshua therefore said to those Yehudim who had believed him, "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my talmidim.

32 You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."

33 They answered him, "We are Avraham's seed, and have never yet been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, 'You will be made free?'"

34Yeshua answered them, "Most assuredly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.

35 A bondservant doesn't live in the house forever. A son remains forever.

36 If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

37 I know that you are Avraham's seed, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.

38 I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father."

39 They answered him, "Our father is Avraham." Yeshua said to them, "If you were Avraham's children, you would do the works of Avraham.

40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Avraham didn't do this.

41 You do the works of your father." They said to him, "We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God."

42 Therefore Yeshua said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came forth and have come from God. For neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.

43 Why don't you understand my speech? Because you can't hear my word.

44 You are of your Father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn't stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it.

45 But because I tell the truth, you don't believe me.

46 Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

47 He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don't hear, because you are not of God."

48 Then the Yehudim answered him, "Don't we say well that you are a Shomroni, and have a demon?"

49 Yeshua answered, "I don't have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.

50 But I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.

51 Most assuredly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death."

52 Then the Yehudim said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon. Avraham died, and the prophets; and you say, 'If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.'

53 Are you greater than our father, Avraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?"

54 Yeshua answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

55 You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, 'I don't know him,' I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.

56 Your father Avraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad."

57 The Yehudim therefore said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Avraham?"

58 Yeshua said to them, "Most assuredly, I tell you, before Avraham came into existence, I AM."

59 They took up stones therefore to throw at him, but Yeshua was hidden, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
