PSALMS: 17
1 Hear, LORD, my righteous plea;
Give ear to my prayer, that doesn't go out of deceitful lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from your presence;
Let your eyes look on equity.
3 You have proved my heart;
you have visited me in the night;
You have tried me, and found nothing;
I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey.
4 As for the works of men,
by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to your paths,
My feet have not slipped.
6 I have called on you, for you will answer me, God:
Turn your ear to me.
Hear my speech.
7 Show your marvelous loving kindness,
You who save those who take refuge by
your right hand from their enemies.
8 Keep me as the apple of your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of your wings,
9 From the wicked who oppress me,
My deadly enemies, who compass me about.
10 They close up their callous hearts.
With their mouth they speak proudly.
11 They have now surrounded us in our steps.
They set their eyes to cast us down to the eretz.
12 He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,
As it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
13 Arise, LORD, Confront him, cast him down.
Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword;
14 From men by your hand, LORD,
From men of the world, whose portion is in this life,
Whose belly you fill with your treasure:
They are satisfied with children,
Leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
15 As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form.
PSALMS: 47
1 Oh clap your hands, all you nations.
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
2 For the LORD Elyon is awesome.
He is a great King over all the eretz.
3 He subdues nations under us,
And peoples under our feet.
4 He chooses our inheritance for us,
The glory of Ya`akov whom he loved.
Selah.
5 God has gone up with a shout,
The LORD with the sound of a shofar.
6 Sing praise to God, sing praises.
Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the eretz.
Sing praises with understanding.
8 God reigns over the nations.
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples are gathered together,
The people of the God of Avraham.
For the shields of the eretz belong to God.
He is greatly exalted!
PSALMS: 77
1 My cry goes to God! Indeed,
I cry to God for help,
And for him to listen to me.
2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord.
My hand was stretched out in the night, and didn't get tired.
My soul refused to be comforted.
3 I remember God, and I groan.
I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed.
Selah.
4 You hold my eyelids open.
I am so troubled that I can't speak.
5 I have considered the days of old,
The years of ancient times.
6 I remember my song in the night.
I consider in my own heart;
My spirit diligently inquires:
7 "Will the Lord reject us forever?
Will he be favorable no more?
8 Has his loving kindness vanished forever?
Does his promise fail for generations?
9 Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?"
Selah.
10Then I thought,
"I will appeal to this:
The years of the right hand of Ha`Elyon."
11 I will remember the LORD's deeds;
For I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will also meditate on all your work,
And consider your doings.
13 Your way, God, is in the sanctuary.
What god is great like God?
14 You are the God who does wonders.
You have made your strength known among the peoples.
15 You have redeemed your people with your arm,
The sons of Ya`akov and Yosef. Selah.
16 The waters saw you, God.
The waters saw you, and they writhed.
The depths also convulsed.
17 The clouds poured out water.
The skies resounded with thunder.
Your arrows also flashed around.
18 The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind.
The lightnings lit up the world.
The eretz trembled and shook.
19 Your way was through the sea;
Your paths through the great waters.
Your footsteps were not known.
20 You led your people like a flock,
By the hand of Moshe and Aharon.
PSALMS: 107
1 Give thanks to the LORD,
For he is good,
For his loving kindness endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed by the LORD say so,
Whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
3 Gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way.
They found no city to live in.
5 Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
And he delivered them out of their distresses,
7 He led them also by a straight way,
That they might go to a city to live in.
8 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul.
He fills the hungry soul with good.
10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Being bound in affliction and iron,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And condemned the counsel of Ha`Elyon.
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labor.
They fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
And he saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their bonds in sunder.
15 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For he has broken the gates of brass,
And cut through bars of iron.
17 Fools are afflicted because of their disobedience,
And because of their iniquities.
18 Their soul abhors all kinds of food.
They draw near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble,
He saves them out of their distresses.
20 He sends his word, and heals them,
And delivers them from their graves.
21 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare his works with singing.
23 Those who go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business in great waters;
24 These see the LORD's works,
And his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commands, and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up its waves.
26 They mount up to the sky;
they go down again to the depths.
Their soul melts away because of trouble.
27 They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits' end.
28 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble,
He brings them out of their distress.
29 He makes the storm a calm,
So that its waves are still.
30 Then are they glad because it is calm,
So he brings them to their desired haven.
31 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people,
And praise him in the seat of the Zakenim.
33 He turns rivers into a desert,
Water springs into a thirsty ground,
34 And a fruitful land into a salt waste,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a desert into a pool of water,
And a dry land into water springs.
36 There he makes the hungry to live,
That they may prepare a city to live in,
37 Sow fields, plant vineyards,
And reap the fruits of increase.
38 He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly.
He doesn't allow their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are diminished and bowed down
Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.
40 He pours contempt on princes,
And causes them to wander in a trackless waste.
41 Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction,
And increases their families like a flock.
42 The upright will see it, and be glad.
All the wicked will shut their mouths.
43 Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things.
They will consider the loving
kindnesses of the LORD.
PSALMS: 137
1 By the rivers of Bavel, there we sat down.
Yes, we wept, when we remembered Tziyon.
2 On the willows in the midst of it,
We hung up our harps.
3 For there, those who led us captive asked us for songs.
Those who tormented us demanded songs of joy:
"Sing us one of the songs of Tziyon!"
4 How can we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Yerushalayim,
Let my right hand forget its skill.
6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,
If I don't remember you;
If I don't prefer Yerushalayim above my chief joy.
7 Remember, LORD, against the children of Edom,
The day of Yerushalayim;
Who said, "Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!"
8 Daughter of Bavel, doomed to destruction,
He will be happy who rewards you,
As you have served us.
9 Happy shall he be,
Who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock.
PROVERBS: 17
1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness,
Than a house full of feasting with strife.
2 A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame,
And shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold,
But the LORD tests the hearts.
4 An evil-doer gives heed to wicked lips.
A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker.
He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men;
The glory of children are their parents.
7 Arrogant speech isn't fitting for a fool,
Much less do lying lips fit a prince.
8 A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.
9 He who covers an offense promotes love;
But he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
10 A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding
Than a hundred lashes into a fool.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion;
Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man,
Rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Whoever rewards evil for good,
Evil shall not depart from his house.
14 The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam,
Therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
16 Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom,
Seeing he has no understanding?
17 A friend loves at all times;
And a brother is born for adversity.
18 A man void of understanding strikes hands,
And becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
19 He who loves disobedience loves strife.
One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
20 One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity,
And one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
21 He who becomes the father of a fool grieves.
The father of a fool has no joy.
22 A cheerful heart makes good medicine,
But a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
23 A wicked man receives a bribe in secret,
To pervert the ways of justice.
24 Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the eretz.
25 A foolish son brings grief to his father,
And bitterness to her who bore him.
26 Also to punish the righteous is not good,
Nor to flog officials for their integrity.
27 He who spares his words has knowledge.
He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise.
When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.

4:5 Ashshur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Hel'ah and Na`arah. 6 Na`arah bore him Achuzzam, and Hefer, and Timni, and Achashtari. These were the sons of Na`arah. 7 The sons of Hel'ah were Tzeret, Tzochar, and Etnan. 8 Kotz became the father of `Anuv, and Tzovevah, and the families of Acharchel the son of Harum. 9 Ya`betz was more honorable than his brothers: and his mother named him Ya`betz, saying, Because I bore him with sorrow. 10Ya`betz called on the God of Yisra'el, saying, Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that it not be to my sorrow! God granted him that which he requested. 11 Kelub the brother of Shuchah became the father of Mechir, who was the father of Eshton. 12 Eshton became the father of Beit-Rafa, and Pase'ach, and Techinnah the father of Ir-Nachash. These are the men of Rekhah. 13 The sons of Kenaz: `Otni'el, and Serayah. The sons of `Otni'el: Hatat. 14 Me`onotai became the father of Ofrat: and Serayah became the father of Yo'av the father of Ge-Harashim; for they were craftsmen. 15 The sons of Kalev the son of Yefunneh: Iru, Elah, and Na`am; and the sons of Elah; and Kenaz. 16 The sons of Yehallel'el: Zif, and Zifah, Tiryah, and Asar'el. 17 The sons of Ezrah: Yeter, and Mered, and `Efer, and Yalon; and she bore Miryam, and Shammai, and Yishbach the father of Eshtemoa.18 His wife Yehudiyah bore Yered the father of Gedor, and Hever the father of Sokho, and Yekuti'el the father of Zanoach. These are the sons of Bityah the daughter of Par`oh, whom Mered took. 19 The sons of the wife of Hodiyah, the sister of Nacham, were the father of Ke`ilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Ma`akhatite. 20 The sons of Shimon: Amnon, and Rinnah, Ben-Hanan, and Tilon. The sons of Yish`i: Zochet, and Ben-Zochet. 21 The sons of Shelah, the son of Yehudah: `Er the father of Lekha, and La`adah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those who worked fine linen, of the house of Ashbea; 22 and Yokim, and the men of Kozeva, and Yo'ash, and Saraf, who had dominion in Mo'av, and Yashuvi-Lechem. The records are ancient. 23 These were the potters, and the inhabitants of Netaim and Gederah: there they lived with the king for his work. 24 The sons of Shim`on: Nemu'el, and Yamin, Yariv, Zerach, Sha'ul; 25 Shallum his son, Mivsam his son, Mishma his son.26 The sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zakkur his son, Shim`i his son. 27 Shim`i had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers didn't have many children, neither did all their family multiply like the children of Yehudah. 28 They lived at Be'er-Sheva, and Moladah, and Hatzar-Shu`al, 29 and at Bilhah, and at `Etzem, and at Tolad, 30 and at Betu'el, and at Hormah, and at Tziklag, 31 and at Beit-Markavot, and Hatzar-Susim, and at Beit-Bir'i, and at Sha`arayim. These were their cities to the reign of David. 32 Their villages were `Etam, and `Ayin, Rimmon, and Tokhen, and `Ashan, five cities; 33 and all their villages that were round about the same cities, to Ba`al. These were their habitations, and they have their genealogy. 34 Meshovav, and Yamlekh, and Yoshah the son of Amatzyah, 35 and Yo'el, and Yehu the son of Yoshivyah, the son of Serayah, the son of `Asi'el, 36 and Elyo`enai, and Ya`akovah, and Yeshochayah, and `Asayah, and `Adi'el, and Yesimi'el, and Benayah, 37 and Ziza the son of Shif`i, the son of Allon, the son of Yedayah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemayah 38 these mentioned by name were princes in their families: and their fathers' houses increased greatly. 39 They went to the entrance of Gedor, even to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks. 40 They found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for those who lived there before were of Ham. 41 These written by name came in the days of Hizkiyahu king of Yehudah, and struck their tents, and the Me`unim who were found there, and destroyed them utterly to this day, and lived in their place; because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42 Some of them, even of the sons of Shim`on, five hundred men, went to Mount Se`ir, having for their captains Pelatyah, and Ne`aryah, and Refayah, and `Uzzi'el, the sons of Yish`i. 43 They struck the remnant of the `Amaleki who escaped, and have lived there to this day.
5:1 The sons of Re'uven the firstborn of Yisra'el (for he was the firstborn; but, because he defiled his father's couch, his birthright was given to the sons of Yosef the son of Yisra'el; and the genealogy is not to be reckoned after the birthright. 2 For Yehudah prevailed above his brothers, and of him came the prince; but the birthright was Yosef's:) 3 the sons of Re'uven the firstborn of Yisra'el: Hanokh, and Pallu, Hetzron, and Karmi. 4 The sons of Yo'el: Shemayah his son, Gog his son, Shim`i his son, 5 Mikhah his son, Re'ayah his son, Ba`al his son, 6 Be'erah his son, whom Tilgat-Pilne'eser king of Ashshur carried away captive: he was prince of the Re'uveni. 7 His brothers by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned: the chief, Ye`i'el, and Zekharyah, 8 and Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Yo'el, who lived in `Aro`er, even to Nevo and Ba`al-Me`on: 9 and eastward he lived even to the entrance of the wilderness from the river Perat, because their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gil`ad. 10 In the days of Sha'ul, they made war with the Hagrim, who fell by their hand; and they lived in their tents throughout all the [land] east of Gil`ad. 11 The sons of Gad lived over against them, in the land of Bashan to Salkhah: 12 Yo'el the chief, and Shafam the second, and Ya`nai, and Shafat in Bashan. 13 Their brothers of their fathers' houses: Mikha'el, and Meshullam, and Sheva, and Yorai, and Ya`kan, and Zia, and `Ever, seven. 14 These were the sons of Avichayil, the son of Huri, the son of Yao`ach, the son of Gil`ad, the son of Mikha'el, the son of Yeshishai, the son of Yachdo, the son of Buz; 15 Achi the son of `Avdi'el, the son of Guni, chief of their fathers' houses. 16 They lived in Gil`ad in Bashan, and in its towns, and in all the suburbs of Sharon, as far as their borders. 17 All these were reckoned by genealogies in the days of Yotam king of Yehudah, and in the days of Yarov`am king of Yisra'el.
NEW TESTAMENT: ACTS 25:1 - 27
25:1 Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Yerushalayim from Caesarea.
2 Then the Kohen Gadol and the principal men of the Yehudim informed him against Sha'ul, and they begged him,
3 asking a favor against him, that he would send for him to Yerushalayim; plotting to kill him on the way.
4 However Festus answered that Sha'ul was kept in custody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart shortly.
5 "Let them therefore," said he, "that are in power among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong in the man, let them accuse him."
6 When he had stayed among them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea, and on the next day he sat on the judgment seat, and commanded Sha'ul to be brought.
7 When he had come, the Yehudim who had come down from Yerushalayim stood around him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove,
8 while he said in his defense, "Neither against the law of the Yehudim, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all."
9 But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Yehudim, answered Sha'ul and said, "Will you go up to Yerushalayim, and there be judged of these things before me?"
10 But Sha'ul said, "I am standing before Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Yehudim, as you also know very well.
11 For if I have done wrong, and have committed anything worthy of death, I don't refuse to die; but if none of those things is true that these accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!"
12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, "You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you will go."
13 Now when some days had passed, Agrippa the King and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and greeted Festus.
14 As they stayed there many days, Festus laid Sha'ul's case before the King, saying, "There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;
15 about whom, when I was at Yerushalayim, the chief Kohanim and the Zakenim of the Yehudim informed me, asking for a sentence against him.
16 To whom I answered that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction, before the accused have met the accusers face to face, and have had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.
17 When therefore they had come together here, I didn't delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought.
18 Concerning whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought no charge of such things as I supposed;
19 but had certain questions against him of their own religion, and of one Yeshua, who was dead, whom Sha'ul affirmed to be alive.
20 I, being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, asked whether he would go to Yerushalayim and there be judged concerning these matters.
21 But when Sha'ul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar."
22 Agrippa said to Festus, "I also would like to hear the man myself." "Tomorrow," he said, "you will hear him."
23 So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Sha'ul was brought in.
24 Festus said, "King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Yehudim petitioned me, both at Yerushalayim and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
25 But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as he himself appealed to the emperor I determined to send him.
26 Of whom I have no certain thing to write to my lord. Therefore I have brought him forth before you, and especially before you, king Agrippa, that, after examination, I may have something to write.
27 For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to also specify the charges against him."
