APRIL 23

PSALMS: 23, 53, 83, 113, 143

PROVERBS: 23

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 CHRONICLES 15:1 - 16:36

NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 1:18 - 32

PSALMS: 23

1 The LORD is my shepherd:

I shall lack nothing.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

3 He restores my soul.

He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil, for you are with me.

Your rod and your staff, they comfort me

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

You have anointed my head with oil.

My cup runs over.

6 Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life,

And I shall dwell in the LORD's house forever.

PSALMS: 53

1 The fool has said in his heart,

"There is no God."

They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity.

There is no one who does good.

2 God looks down from heaven on the children of men,

To see if there are any who understood, Who seek after God.

3 Every one of them has gone back.

They have become filthy together.

There is no one who does good, no, not one.

4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge,

Who eat up my people as they eat bread,

And don't call on God?

5 There they were in great fear, where no fear was,

For God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you.

You have put them to shame,

Because God has rejected them.

6 Oh that the yeshu`ah of Yisra'el would come out of Tziyon!

When God brings back the captivity of his people,

Then shall Ya`akov rejoice.

Yisra'el shall be glad.

PSALMS: 83

1 God, don't keep silent.

Don't keep silent, and don't be still, God.

2 For, behold, your enemies are stirred up.

Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.

3 They conspire with cunning against your people.

They plot against your cherished ones.

4 "Come," they say, "and let us destroy them as a nation,

That the name of Yisra'el may be remembered no more."

5 For they have conspired together with one mind.

They form an alliance against you.

6 The tents of Edom and the Yishme`elim;

Mo'av, and the Hagrim;

7 Geval, `Ammon, and `Amalek;

Peleshet with the inhabitants of Tzor;

8 Ashshur also is joined with them.

They have helped the children of Lot.

Selah.

9 Do to them as you did to Midyan,

As to Sisera, as to Yavin, at the river Kishon;

10 Who perished at `En-Dor,

Who became as dung for the eretz.

11 Make their nobles like `Orev and Ze'ev;

Yes, all their princes like Zevach and Tzalmunnah;

12 Who said, "Let us take possession

Of God's pasturelands."

13 My God, make them like tumbleweed;

Like chaff before the wind.

14 As the fire that burns the forest,

As the flame that sets the mountains on fire,

15 So pursue them with your tempest,

Terrify them with your storm.

16 Fill their faces with confusion,

That they may seek your name, LORD.

17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever.

Yes, let them be confounded and perish;

18 That they may know that you alone, whose name is the LORD,

Are Ha`Elyon over all the eretz.

PSALMS: 113

1 Praise the LORD!

Praise, you servants of the LORD,

Praise the name of the LORD.

2 Blessed be the name of the LORD,

From this time forth and forevermore.

3 From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same,

The LORD's name is to be praised.

4 The LORD is high above all nations,

His glory above the heavens.

5 Who is like the LORD, our God,

Who has his seat on high,

6 Who stoops down to see in heaven and in the eretz?

7 He raises up the poor out of the dust.

Lifts up the needy from the ash heap;

8 That he may set him with princes,

Even with the princes of his people.

9 He settles the barren woman in her home,

As a joyful mother of children.

Praise the LORD!

PSALMS: 143

1 Hear my prayer, LORD.

Listen to my petitions.

In your faithfulness and righteousness, relieve me.

2 Don't enter into judgment with your servant,

For in your sight no man living is righteous.

3 For the enemy pursues my soul.

He has struck my life down to the ground.

He has made me live in dark places,

as those who have been long dead.

4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me.

My heart within me is desolate.

5 I remember the days of old.

I meditate on all your doings.

I contemplate the work of your hands.

6 I spread forth my hands to you.

My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land.

Selah.

7 Hurry to answer me, LORD.

My spirit fails.

Don't hide your face from me,

So that I don't become like those who go down into the pit.

8 Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning,

For I trust in you.

Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,

For I lift up my soul to you.

9 Deliver me, LORD, from my enemies.

I flee to you to hide me.

10 Teach me to do your will,

For you are my God.

Your Spirit is good.

Lead me in the land of uprightness.

11 Revive me, LORD, for your name's sake.

In your righteousness, bring my soul out of trouble.

12 In your loving kindness, cut off my enemies,

And destroy all those who afflict my soul,

For I am your servant.

PROVERBS: 23

1 When you sit to eat with a ruler,

Consider diligently what is before you;

2 Put a knife to your throat,

If you are a man given to appetite.

3 Don't be desirous of his dainties,

Seeing they are deceitful food.

4 Don't weary yourself to be rich.

In your wisdom, show restraint

5 Why do you set your eyes on that which is not?

For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.

6 Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye,

And don't crave his delicacies:

7 For as he thinks about the cost, so he is.

"Eat and drink!" he says to you,

But his heart is not with you.

8 The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up,

And lose your good words.

9 Don't speak in the ears of a fool,

For he will despise the wisdom of your words.

10 Don't move the ancient boundary stone.

Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless:

11 For their Defender is strong.

He will plead their case against you.

12 Apply your heart to instruction,

And your ears to the words of knowledge.

13 Don't withhold correction from a child.

If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.

14 Punish him with the rod,

And save his soul from She'ol

15 My son, if your heart is wise,

Then my heart will be glad, even mine:

16 Yes, my heart will rejoice,

When your lips speak what is right.

17 Don't let your heart envy sinners;

But rather fear the LORD all the day long.

18 Indeed surely there is a future hope,

And your hope will not be cut off.

19 Listen, my son, and be wise,

And keep your heart on the right path

20 Don't be among ones drinking too much wine,

Or those who gorge themselves on meat:

21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor;

And drowsiness clothes them in rags

22 Listen to your father who gave you life,

And don't despise your mother when she is old.

23 Buy the truth, and don't sell it:

Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.

24 The father of the righteous has great joy.

Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.

25 Let your father and your mother be glad!

Let her who bore you rejoice!

26 My son, give me your heart;

And let your eyes keep in my ways.

27 For a prostitute is a deep pit;

And a wayward wife is a narrow well.

28 Yes, she lies in wait like a robber,

And increases the unfaithful among men.

29 Who has woe?

Who has sorrow?

Who has strife?

Who has complaints?

Who has needless bruises?

Who has bloodshot eyes?

30 Those who stay long at the wine;

Those who go to seek out mixed wine.

31 Don't look at the wine when it is red,

When it sparkles in the cup,

When it goes down smoothly:

32 At the last it bites like a snake,

And poisons like a viper.

33 Your eyes will see strange things,

And your mind will imagine confusing things.

34 Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea,

Or as he who lies on top of the rigging:

35 "They hit me, and I was not hurt;

They beat me, and I don't feel it!

When will I wake up?

I can do it again.

I can find another."

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 CHRONICLES 15:1 - 16:36

15:1 [David] made him houses in the city of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent. 2 Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them has the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister to him forever. 3 David assembled all Yisra'el at Yerushalayim, to bring up the ark of the LORD to its place, which he had prepared for it. 4 David gathered together the sons of Aharon, and the Levites: 5 of the sons of Kehat, Uri'el the chief, and his brothers one hundred twenty; 6 of the sons of Merari, `Asayah the chief, and his brothers two hundred twenty; 7 of the sons of Gershom, Yo'el the chief, and his brothers one hundred thirty; 8 of the sons of Elitzafan, Shemayah the chief, and his brothers two hundred; 9 of the sons of Hevron, Eli'el the chief, and his brothers eighty; 10 of the sons of `Uzzi'el, `Amminadav the chief, and his brothers one hundred twelve. 11 David called for Tzadok and Avyatar the Kohanim, and for the Levites, for Uri'el, `Asayah, and Yo'el, Shemayah, and Eli'el, and `Amminadav, 12 and said to them, You are the heads of the fathers' [houses] of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, to [the place] that I have prepared for it. 13 For because you didn't carry it at the first, the LORD our God made a breach on us, because we didn't seek him according to the ordinance. 14 So the Kohanim and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el. 15 The children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles thereon, as Moshe commanded according to the word of the LORD. 16 David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers the singers, with instruments of music, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up the voice with joy. 17  So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Yo'el; and of his brothers, Asaf the son of Berekhyah; and of the sons of Merari their brothers, Etan the son of Kushayahu; 18 and with them their brothers of the second degree, Zekharyah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramot, and Yechi'el, and Unni, Eli'av, and Benayah, and Ma`aseyah, and Mattityah, and Eliflehu, and Mikneyahu, and `Oved-'Edom, and Ye`i'el, the doorkeepers. 19 So the singers, Heman, Asaf, and Etan, [were appointed] with cymbals of brass to sound aloud; 20 and Zekharyah, and Aziel, and Shemiramot, and Yechi'el, and Unni, and Eli'av, and Ma`aseyah, and Benayah, with psalteries set to `Alamot; 21 and Mattityah, and Eliflehu, and Mikneyahu, and `Oved-'Edom, and Ye`i'el, and `Azazyahu, with harps tuned to the sheminit, to lead. 22 Kananyah, chief of the Levites, was over the song: he instructed about the song, because he was skillful. 23 Berekhyah and Elkana were doorkeepers for the ark. 24 Shevanyah, and Yoshafat, and Netan'el, and `Amasai, and Zekharyah, and Benayah, and Eli`ezer, the Kohanim, did blow the trumpets before the ark of God: and `Oved-'Edom and Yechiyah were doorkeepers for the ark. 25 So David, and the Zakenim of Yisra'el, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of `Oved-'Edom with joy. 26 It happened, when God helped the Levites who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. 27 David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites who bore the ark, and the singers, and Kananyah the master of the song [with] the singers: and David had on him an efod of linen. 28 Thus all Yisra'el brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with psalteries and harps. 29 It happened, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Mikhal the daughter of Sha'ul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.

16:1 They brought in the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt offerings and peace-offerings before God. 2 When David had made an end of offering the burnt offering and the peace-offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD. 3 He dealt to everyone of Yisra'el, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a portion [of flesh], and a cake of raisins. 4 He appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to celebrate and to thank and praise the LORD, the God of Yisra'el: 5 Asaf the chief, and second to him Zekharyah, Ye`i'el, and Shemiramot, and Yechi'el, and Mattityah, and Eli'av, and Benayah, and `Oved-'Edom, and Ye`i'el, with psalteries and with harps; and Asaf with cymbals, sounding aloud; 6 and Benayah and Yachazi'el the Kohanim with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God. 7  Then on that day David first ordained to give thanks to the LORD, by the hand of Asaf and his brothers. 8 Oh give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; Make known his doings among the peoples. 9 Sing to him, sing praises to him; Talk you of all his marvelous works. 10 Glory you in his holy name; Let the heart of them rejoice who seek the LORD. 11 Seek you the LORD and his strength; Seek his face forever more. 12 Remember his marvelous works that he has done, His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth, 13 You seed of Yisra'el his servant, You children of Ya`akov, his chosen ones. 14 He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the eretz. 15 Remember his covenant forever, The word which he commanded to a thousand generations, 16 [The covenant] which he made with Avraham, His oath to Yitzchak, 17  Confirmed the same to Ya`akov for a statute, To Yisra'el for an everlasting covenant, 18 Saying, To you will I give the land of Kana`an, The lot of your inheritance; 19 When you were but a few men in number, Yes, very few, and sojourners in it; 20 They went about from nation to nation, From one kingdom to another people. 21 He allowed no man to do them wrong; Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes, 22 [Saying], Don't touch my anointed ones, Do my prophets no harm. 23 Sing to the LORD, all the eretz; Show forth his salvation from day to day. 24 Declare his glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples. 25 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: He also is to be feared above all gods. 26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols: But the LORD made the heavens. 27  Honor and majesty are before him: Strength and gladness are in his place. 28 Ascribe to the LORD, you relatives of the peoples, Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength; 29 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name: Bring an offering, and come before him: Worship the LORD in holy array. 30 Tremble before him, all the eretz: The world also is established that it can't be moved. 31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the eretz rejoice; Let them say among the nations, the LORD reigns. 32 Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it; Let the field exult, and all that is therein; 33 Then shall the trees of the wood sing for joy before the LORD; For he comes to judge the eretz. 34 Oh give thanks to the LORD; for he is good; For his lovingkindness endures forever. 35 Say you, Save us, God of our salvation, Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, To give thanks to your holy name, To triumph in your praise. 36 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, From everlasting even to everlasting. All the people said, Amein, and praised the LORD.

NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 1:18 - 32

1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hinder the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because that which is known by God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them.

20 For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse.

21 Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves,

25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amein.

26 For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature.

27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error.

28 Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers,

30 backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful;

32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also consent with those who practice them.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
