APRIL 22

PSALMS: 22, 52, 82, 112, 142

PROVERBS: 22

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 CHRONICLES 12:19 - 14:14

NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 1:1 - 17

PSALMS: 22

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why are you so far from helping me,

and from the words of my groaning?

2 My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don't answer;

In the night season, and am not silent.

3 But you are holy,

You who inhabit the praises of Yisra'el.

4 Our fathers trusted in you.

They trusted, and you delivered them.

5 They cried to you, and were delivered.

They trusted in you, and were not put to shame.

6 But I am a worm, and no man;

A reproach of men, and despised by the people.

7 All those who see me mock me.

They insult me with their lips.

They shake their heads, saying,

8 "He trusts in the LORD; Let him deliver him;

Let him rescue him, since he delights in him."

9 But you brought me out of the womb.

You made me trust at my mother's breasts.

10 I was thrown on you from my mother's womb.

You are my God since my mother bore me.

11 Don't be far from me, for trouble is near.

For there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have surrounded me.

Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.

13 They open their mouths wide against me,

Lions tearing prey and roaring.

14 I am poured out like water.

All my bones are out of joint.

My heart is like wax;

It is melted within me.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd.

My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.

You have brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have surrounded me.

A company of evil-doers have enclosed me.

They pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I can count all of my bones.

They look and stare at me.

18 They divide my garments among them.

They cast lots for my clothing.

19 But don't be far off, LORD.

You are my help: hurry to help me.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword,

My precious life from the power of the dog.

21 Save me from the lion's mouth;

Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me.

22 I will declare your name to my brothers.

In the midst of the assembly, will I praise you.

23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!

All you descendants of Ya`akov, glorify him!

Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Yisra'el!

24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted,

Neither has he hid his face from him;

But when he cried to him, he heard.

25 Of you comes my praise in the great assembly.

I will pay my vows before those who fear him.

26 The humble shall eat and be satisfied.

They shall praise the LORD who seek after him.

Let your hearts live forever.

27 All the ends of the eretz shall remember and turn to the LORD.

All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.

28 For the kingdom is the LORD's.

He is the ruler over the nations.

29 All the rich ones of the eretz shall eat and worship.

All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him,

Even he who can't keep his soul alive.

30 Posterity shall serve him.

Future generations shall be told about the Lord.

31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, For he has done it.

PSALMS: 52

1 Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?

God's loving kindness endures continually.

2 Your tongue plots destruction,

Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

3 You love evil more than good,

Lying rather than speaking the truth.

Selah.

4 You love all devouring words,

You deceitful tongue.

5 God will likewise destroy you forever.

He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent,

And root you out of the land of the living.

Selah.

6 The righteous also will see it, and fear,

And laugh at him, saying,

7 "Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength,

But trusted in the abundance of his riches,

And strengthened himself in his wickedness."

8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house.

I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.

9 I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.

I will hope in your name, for it is good,

In the presence of your holy ones.

PSALMS: 82

1 God presides in the great assembly.

He judges among the gods.

2 "How long will you judge unjustly,

And show partiality to the wicked?"

Selah.

3 "Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless.

Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

4 Rescue the weak and needy.

Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked."

5 They don't know, neither do they understand.

They walk back and forth in darkness.

All the foundations of the eretz are shaken.

6 I said, "You are gods,

All of you are sons of Ha`Elyon.

7 Nevertheless you shall die like men,

And fall like one of the rulers."

8 Arise, God, judge the eretz,

For you inherit all of the nations.

PSALMS: 112

1 Praise the LORD!

Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,

Who delights greatly in his mitzvot.

2 His seed will be mighty on eretz.

The generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house.

His righteousness endures forever.

4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright,

Gracious, merciful, and righteous.

5 It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends.

He will maintain his cause in judgment.

6 For he will never be shaken.

The righteous will be remembered forever.

7 He will not be afraid of evil news.

His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

8 His heart is established.

He will not be afraid in the end when he sees his adversaries.

9 He has dispersed, he has given to the poor.

His righteousness endures forever.

His horn will be exalted with honor.

10 The wicked will see it, and be grieved.

He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away.

The desire of the wicked will perish.

PSALMS: 142

1 I cry with my voice to the LORD.

With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy.

2 I pour out my complaint before him.

I tell him my troubles.

3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,

You knew my path.

In the way in which I walk,

They have hidden a snare for me.

4 Look on my right, and see;

For there is no one who is concerned for me.

Refuge has fled from me.

No one cares for my soul.

5 I cried to you, the LORD.

I said, "You are my refuge,

My portion in the land of the living."

6 Listen to my cry,

For I am in desperate need.

Deliver me from my persecutors,

For they are stronger than me.

7 Bring my soul out of prison,

That I may give thanks to your name.

The righteous will surround me,

For you will be good to me.

PROVERBS: 22

1 A good name is more desirable than great riches;

Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

2 The rich and the poor have this in common:

The LORD is the maker of them all.

3 A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself;

But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

4 The result of humility and the fear of the LORD

Is wealth, honor, and life.

5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked:

Whoever guards his soul stays from them.

6 Train up a child in the way he should go,

And when he is old he will not depart from it.

7 The rich rules over the poor.

The borrower is servant to the lender.

8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,

And the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed;

For he shares his food with the poor.

10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out;

Yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully Is the king's friend.

12 The eyes of the LORD watch over knowledge;

But he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

13 The sluggard says,

"There is a lion outside!

I will be killed in the streets!"

14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit:

He who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.

15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child:

The rod of discipline drives it far from him.

16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich,

Both come to poverty.

17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise.

Apply your heart to my teaching.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you,

If all of them are ready on your lips.

19 That your trust may be in the LORD,

I teach you today, even you.

20 Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things

Of counsel and knowledge,

21 To teach you truth, reliable words,

To give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

22 Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor;

And don't crush the needy in court;

23 For the LORD will plead their case,

And plunder the life of those who plunder them.

24 Don't befriend a hot-tempered man,

And don't associate with one who harbors anger:

25 Lest you learn his ways,

And ensnare your soul.

26 Don't you be one of those who strike hands,

Of those who are collateral for debts.

27 If you don't have means to pay,

Why should he take away your bed from under you?

28 Don't move the ancient boundary stone,

Which your fathers have set up.

29 Do you see a man skilled in his work?

He will serve kings;

He won't serve obscure men.

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 CHRONICLES 12:19 - 14:14

12:19 Of Menashsheh also there fell away some to David, when he came with the Pelishtim against Sha'ul to battle: but they didn't help them; for the lords of the Pelishtim on advise sent him away, saying, He will fall away to his master Sha'ul to the jeopardy of our heads. 20 As he went to Tziklag, there fell to him of Menashsheh, `Adnach, and Yozavad, and Yedi`a'el, and Mikha'el, and Yozavad, and Elihu, and Tzilletai, captains of thousands who were of Menashsheh. 21 They helped David against the band of rovers: for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the host. 22 For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great host, like the host of God. 23 These are the numbers of the heads of those who were armed for war, who came to David to Hevron, to turn the kingdom of Sha'ul to him, according to the word of the LORD. 24 The children of Yehudah who bore shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred, armed for war. 25 Of the children of Shim`on, mighty men of valor for the war, seven thousand and one hundred. 26 Of the children of Levi four thousand and six hundred. 27  Yehoiada was the leader of [the house of] Aharon; and with him were three thousand and seven hundred, 28and Tzadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father's house twenty-two captains. 29 Of the children of Binyamin, the brothers of Sha'ul, three thousand: for hitherto the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Sha'ul. 30 Of the children of Efrayim twenty thousand eight hundred, mighty men of valor, famous men in their fathers' houses. 31 Of the half-tribe of Menashsheh eighteen thousand, who were mentioned by name, to come and make David king. 32 Of the children of Yissakhar, men who had understanding of the times, to know what Yisra'el ought to do, the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their mitzvah. 33 Of Zevulun, such as were able to go out in the host, who could set the battle in array, with all manner of instruments of war, fifty thousand, and who could order [the battle array, and were] not of double heart. 34 Of Naftali one thousand captains, and with them with shield and spear thirty-seven thousand. 35 Of the Dani who could set the battle in array, twenty-eight thousand six hundred. 36 Of Asher, such as were able to go out in the host, who could set the battle in array, forty thousand. 37  On the other side of the Yarden, of the Re'uveni, and the Gadi, and of the half-tribe of Menashsheh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, one hundred twenty thousand. 38 All these being men of war, who could order the battle array, came with a perfect heart to Hevron, to make David king over all Yisra'el: and all the rest also of Yisra'el were of one heart to make David king. 39 They were there with David three days, eating and drinking; for their brothers had made preparation for them. 40 Moreover those who were near to them, [even] as far as Yissakhar and Zevulun and Naftali, brought bread on donkeys, and on camels, and on mules, and on oxen, victuals of meal, cakes of figs, and clusters of raisins, and wine, and oil, and oxen, and sheep in abundance: for there was joy in Yisra'el.

13:1 David consulted with the captains of thousands and of hundreds, even with every leader. 2 David said to all the assembly of Yisra'el, If it seem good to you, and if it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad everywhere to our brothers who are left in all Eretz-Yisra'el, with whom the Kohanim and Levites are in their cities that have suburbs, that they may gather themselves to us; 3 and let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we didn't seek it in the days of Sha'ul. 4 All the assembly said that they would do so; for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people. 5 So David assembled all Yisra'el together, from the Shichor [the brook] of Mitzrayim even to the entrance of Hamat, to bring the ark of God from Kiryat-Ye`arim. 6 David went up, and all Yisra'el, to Ba`alah, [that is], to Kiryat-Ye`arim, which belonged to Yehudah, to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD that sits [above] the Keruvim, that is called by the Name. 7  They carried the ark of God on a new cart, [and brought it] out of the house of Avinadav: and Uzza and Achyo drove the cart. 8 David and all Yisra'el played before God with all their might, even with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets. 9 When they came to the threshing floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled. 10 The anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he struck him, because he put forth his hand to the ark; and there he died before God. 11 David was displeased, because the LORD had broken forth on Uzza; and he called that place Peretz-Uzzah, to this day. 12 David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me? 13 So David didn't move the ark to him into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of `Oved-'Edom the Gittite. 14 The ark of God remained with the family of `Oved-'Edom in his house three months: and the LORD blessed the house of `Oved-'Edom, and all that he had.

14:1 Hiram king of Tzor sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and masons, and carpenters, to build him a house. 2 David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Yisra'el; for his kingdom was exalted on high, for his people Yisra'el's sake.

3 David took more wives at Yerushalayim; and David became the father of more sons and daughters. 4 These are the names of the children whom he had in Yerushalayim: Shammua, and Shovav, Natan, and Shlomo, 5 and Yivchar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

6 and Nogah, and Nefeg, and Yafia, 7 and Elishama, and Be`elyada, and Elifelet. 8 When the Pelishtim heard that David was anointed king over all Yisra'el, all the Pelishtim went up to seek David: and David heard of it, and went out against them. 9 Now the Pelishtim had come and made a raid in the valley of Refa'im. 10 David inquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Pelishtim? and will you deliver them into my hand? the LORD said to him, Go up; for I will deliver them into your hand. 11 So they came up to Ba`al-Peratzim, and David struck them there; and David said, God has broken my enemies by my hand, like the breach of waters. Therefore they called the name of that place Ba`al-Peratzim. 12 They left their gods there; and David gave mitzvah, and they were burned with fire. 13 The Pelishtim yet again made a raid in the valley. 14 David inquired again of God; and God said to him, You shall not go up after them: turn away from them, and come on them over against the mulberry trees.

NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 1:1 - 17

1:1 Sha'ul, a servant of Yeshua the Messiah, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God,

2 which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures,

3 concerning his Son, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh,

4 who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Yeshua the Messiah our Lord,

5 through whom we received grace and apostleship, to obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name's sake.

6 Among whom you are also called to be Yeshua the Messiah's.

7  To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be holy ones: Grace to you and shalom from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

8 First, I thank my God through Yeshua the Messiah for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world.

9 For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers,

10 requesting, if by any means now at length I may be prospered by the will of God to come to you.

11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end you may be established;

12 that is, that I with you may be comforted in you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.

13 Now I don't desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit in you also, even as in the rest of the Goyim.

14 I am debtor both to Yevanim and to foreigners, both to the wise and to the foolish.

15 So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the Good News to you also who are in Rome.

16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Messiah, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Yehudi first, and also for the Yevanit.

17 For therein is revealed a righteousness of God from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous shall live by faith."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
