"Flee
like a bird to your mountain.

look, the wicked bend their bows;

shoot from the shadows

the foundations are being destroyed,
what
can the righteous do A?"
4
The
LORD is in his holy temple;
the
LORD is on his heavenly throne.
He
observes the sons of men;
his
eyes examine them.

The
LORD examines the righteous,
but

and those who love violence
his
soul hates.

On
the wicked he will rain
fiery
coals and burning sulfur;

Blessed
is he who has regard for the weak;
the
LORD delivers him in times of trouble.

LORD will protect him and preserve his life;

not surrender him to the desire of his foes.

restore him from his bed of illness.

I
said, "O LORD, have mercy on me;
heal

enemies say of me in malice,
"When
will he die and his name perish?"

Whenever
one comes to see me,

me and deliver me in your righteousness;

my rock of refuge,

Deliver
me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from
the grasp of evil and cruel men.

For
you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD,

confidence since my youth.

birth I have relied on you;

The LORD abhors dishonest scales,
but
accurate weights are his delight.

When
pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but
with humility comes wisdom.

The
integrity of the upright guides them,
but
the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
4
Wealth
is worthless in the day of wrath,
but
righteousness delivers from death.
5
The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for them,
but
the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
6
The
righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but
the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
7
When
a wicked man dies, his hope perishes;
all
he expected from his power comes to nothing.

The
righteous man is rescued from trouble,
and
it comes on the wicked instead.

With
his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor,
but
through knowledge the righteous escape.

When
the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
when
the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.

Through
the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but

sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished,

a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

desire of the righteous ends only in good,

the hope of the wicked only in wrath.

One
man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another
withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.

TESTAMENT:
EXODUS 12:14 - 13:16

"This
is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you
shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD--a lasting ordinance.
15
For seven days you are to eat bread made without yeast.
On the first day remove the yeast from your houses, for whoever eats
anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh must
be cut off from Israel. 16
On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on the
seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare food
for everyone to eat--that is all you may do.
17
"Celebrate
the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because it was on this very day that I
brought your divisions out of Egypt.
Celebrate this day as a lasting ordinance for the generations to
come.
18
In the first month you are to eat bread made without yeast, from the
evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first
day.
19
For seven days no yeast is to be found in your houses. And whoever
eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of
Israel, whether he is an alien or native-born.
20
Eat nothing made with yeast. Wherever you live, you must eat
unleavened bread."
21
Then
Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go at
once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the
Passover lamb. 22
Take
a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of
the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Not one of
you shall go out the door of his house until morning. 23
When
the LORD goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will
see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass
over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your
houses and strike you down.
24
"Obey
these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your
descendants.
25
When
you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised,
observe this ceremony. 26
And
when your children ask you, `What does this ceremony mean to you?' 27
then
tell them, `It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over
the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he
struck down the Egyptians.'" Then the people bowed down and
worshiped. 28
The
Israelites did just what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron.
29
At
midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the
firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the
prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the
livestock as well. 30
Pharaoh
and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night,
and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house
without someone dead.
31
During
the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Up! Leave
my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have
requested.
32
Take
your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me."
33
The
Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. "For
otherwise," they said, "we will all die!" 34
So
the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried
it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. 35
The
Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for
articles of silver and gold and for clothing. 36
The
LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and
they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.
13
37
The
Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six
hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. 38
Many
other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock,
both flocks and herds. 39
With
the dough they had brought from Egypt, they baked cakes of unleavened
bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out
of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
40
Now
the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt B
was 430 years. 41
At
the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the LORD's divisions
left Egypt. 42
Because
the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this
night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the
generations to come.
43
The
LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "These
are the regulations for the Passover:
"No
foreigner is to eat of it.
44
Any slave you have bought may eat of it after you have circumcised
him,
45
but a temporary resident and a hired worker may not eat of it.
46
"It
must be eaten inside one house;
take none of the meat outside the house.
Do not break any of the bones.
47
The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
48
"An
alien living among you who wants to celebrate the LORD's Passover
must have all the males in his household circumcised;
then he may take part like one born in the land.
No
uncircumcised male may eat of it.
49
The same law applies to the native-born and to the alien living among
you."
50
All
the Israelites did just what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
51
And
on that very day the LORD brought the Israelites out of Egypt by
their divisions.

The
LORD said to Moses, 2
"Consecrate
to me every firstborn male.
The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me,
whether man or animal."
3
Then
Moses said to the people, "Commemorate this day, the day you
came out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery, because the LORD
brought you out of it with a mighty hand. Eat nothing containing
yeast. 4
Today,
in the month of Abib, you are leaving.
5
When
the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites,
Amorites, Hivites and Jebusites--the land he swore to your
forefathers to give you, a land flowing with 14
milk and honey--you are to observe this ceremony in this month: 6
For
seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a
festival to the LORD.
7
Eat
unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing with yeast in it is
to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere within
your borders. 8
On
that day tell your son, `I
do this because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of
Egypt.'
9
This
observance will be for you like a sign on your hand and a reminder on
your forehead that the law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For the
LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand. 10
You
must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after year.
11
"After
the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and gives it to
you, as he promised on oath to you and your forefathers, 12
you
are to give over to the LORD the first offspring of every womb. All
the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the LORD. 13
Redeem
with a lamb every firstborn donkey, but if you do not redeem it,
break its neck. Redeem every firstborn among your sons.
14
"In
days to come, when your son asks you, `What does this mean?' say to
him, `With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the
land of slavery.
15
When
Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed every
firstborn in Egypt, both man and animal. This is why I sacrifice to
the LORD the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my
firstborn sons.' 16
And
it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on your forehead
that the LORD brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand." 15
NEW
TESTAMENT:
MATTHEW 20:19 - 21:22
Son
of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the
law.
They will condemn him to death 19
and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and
crucified.
On the third day he will be raised to life!"
20
Then
the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and,
kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21
"What
is it you want?" he asked.
She
said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your
right and the other at your left in your kingdom."
22
"You
don't know what you are asking,"
Jesus said to them. "Can
you drink the cup I am going to drink?"
"We
can," they answered.
23
Jesus
said to them, "You
will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not
for me to grant.
These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my
Father."
24
When
the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
25
Jesus
called them together and said, "You
know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their
high officials exercise authority over them.
26
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you
must be your servant,
27
and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—28
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and
to give his life as a ransom for many."
29
As
Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed
him.
30
Two
blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that
Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have
mercy on us!"
31
The
crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all
the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
32
Jesus
stopped and called them. "What
do you want me to do for you?"
he asked.
33
"Lord,"
they answered, "we want our sight."
34
Jesus
had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they
received their sight and followed him.

As
they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of
Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2
saying
to them, "Go
to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied
there, with her colt by her.
Untie them and bring them to me.
3
If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them,
and he will send them right away."

This
took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5
"Say
to the Daughter of Zion,
`See,
your king comes to you,
gentle
and riding on a donkey,
on
a colt, the foal of a donkey.'"
A

The
disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7
They
brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and
Jesus sat on them. 8
A
very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut
branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9
The
crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
"Hosanna
B
to the Son of David!"
"Blessed
is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" C
"Hosanna
D
in the highest!"

When
Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who
is this?"
11
The
crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in
Galilee."
12
Jesus
entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling
there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches
of those selling doves. 13
"It
is written,"
he said to them, "`My
house will be called a house of prayer,'
E
but you are making it a `den
of robbers.'
F"
14
The
blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. 15
But
when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful
things he did and the children shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna
to the Son of David," they were indignant. 17
16
"Do
you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him.
"Yes,"
replied Jesus, "have
you never read,
"`From
the lips of children and infants
you
have ordained praise'
G?"

And
he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the
night.
18
Early
in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.
19
Seeing
a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it
except leaves. Then he said to it, "May
you never bear fruit again!"
Immediately the tree withered.
20
When
the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree
wither so quickly?" they asked.
21
Jesus
replied, "I
tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can
you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this
mountain,
`Go,
throw yourself into the sea,'
and
it will be done.
22
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
