LORD,
who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who
may live on your holy hill?

He
whose walk is blameless

who does what is righteous,
who
speaks the truth from his heart

has no slander on his tongue,
who
does his neighbor no wrong
and
casts no slur on his fellowman,
4
who
despises a vile man
but
honors those who fear the LORD,
who
keeps his oath
even
when it hurts,

who
lends his money without usury
and
does not accept a bribe against the innocent.
He
who does these things
will

heart is stirred by a noble theme
as
I recite my verses for the king;

clothe
yourself with splendor and majesty.

In

give thanks to you, O God,
we

To
the arrogant I say,
`Boast
no more,'

to the wicked,
`Do
not lift up your horns.

not lift your horns against heaven;

Give
thanks to the LORD, call on his name;
make
known among the nations what he has done.

Sing
to him, sing praise to him;
tell
of all his wonderful acts.

Glory
in his holy name;
let
the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

Look
to the LORD and his strength;
seek
his face always.
5
Remember
the wonders he has done,
his
miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
6
O
descendants of Abraham his servant,
O
sons of Jacob, his chosen ones.
7
He
is the LORD our God;
his
judgments are in all the earth.

He
remembers his covenant forever,
the
word he commanded, for a thousand generations,

the
covenant he made with Abraham,
the
oath he swore to Isaac.

He
confirmed it to Jacob as a decree,
to
Israel as an everlasting covenant:

"To
you I will give the land of Canaan
as
the portion you will inherit."

When
they were but few in number,
few
indeed, and strangers in it,

wandered from nation to nation,

one kingdom to another.

He
allowed no one to oppress them;

their sake he rebuked kings:

not touch my anointed ones;

my prophets no harm."

called down famine on the land

Israel entered Egypt;
Jacob
lived as an alien in the land of Ham.

LORD made his people very fruitful;
he
made them too numerous for their foes,

whose
hearts he turned to hate his people,

conspire against his servants.

He
sent Moses his servant,
and
Aaron, whom he had chosen.
27They
performed his miraculous signs among them,
his
wonders in the land of Ham.

He
sent darkness and made the land dark--
for
had they not rebelled against his words?

He
turned their waters into blood,
causing
their fish to die.

Their
land teemed with frogs,
which
went up into the bedrooms of their rulers.

He
spoke, and there came swarms of flies,

gnats throughout their country.

turned their rain into hail,

spoke, and the locusts came,

dread of Israel had fallen on them.

a fire to give light at night.

asked, and he brought them quail

satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

opened the rock, and water gushed out;

he remembered his holy promise

Praise
the LORD. A
Praise
the name of the LORD;
praise
him, you servants of the LORD,

who minister in the house of the LORD,
in
the courts of the house of our God.

Praise
the LORD, for the LORD is good;
sing
praise to his name, for that is pleasant.

For
the LORD has chosen Jacob to be his own,
Israel
to be his treasured possession.
5
I
know that the LORD is great,
that
our Lord is greater than all gods.
6
The
LORD does whatever pleases him,
in
the heavens and on the earth,
in
the seas and all their depths.

He
makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth;
he
sends lightning with the rain
and
brings out the wind from his storehouses.

He
struck down the firstborn of Egypt,

firstborn of men and animals.

sent his signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt,
against
Pharaoh and all his servants.

struck down many nations
and
killed mighty kings--

Sihon
king of the Amorites,

king of Bashan

all the kings of Canaan--

he gave their land as an inheritance,
an
inheritance to his people Israel. 8

name, O LORD, endures forever,

For
the LORD will vindicate his people
and
have compassion on his servants.

The
idols of the nations are silver and gold,
made
by the hands of men.

They
have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes,
but they cannot see;

they
have ears, but cannot hear,
nor
is there breath in their mouths.

Those
who make them will be like them,
and
so will all who trust in them.

house of Israel, praise the LORD;

EXODUS 19:16 - 21:21

On
the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a
thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast.
Everyone in the camp trembled.
17
Then
Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood
at the foot of the mountain. 18
Mount
Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in
fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the
whole mountain B
trembled violently, 19
and
the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder. Then Moses spoke and
the voice of God answered him. C
20
The
LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top
of the mountain. So Moses went up 21
and
the LORD said to him, "Go
down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to
see the LORD and many of them perish.
22
Even
the priests, who approach the LORD, must consecrate themselves, or
the LORD will break out against them."
23
Moses
said to the LORD, "The people cannot come up Mount Sinai,
because you yourself warned us, `Put limits around the mountain and
set it apart as holy.'"
24
The
LORD replied, "Go
down and bring Aaron up with you.
But
the priests and the people must not force their way through to come
up to the LORD, or he will break out against them."
25
So
Moses went down to the people and told them.

And
God spoke all these words:

"I
am the LORD your God,
who
brought you out of Egypt,
out
of the land of slavery.
3
"You
shall have no other gods before
A
me.
4
"You
shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven
above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
5
You
shall not bow down to them or worship them;
for
I,
the
LORD your God,
am
a jealous God,
punishing
the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth
generation of those who hate me,
6
but
showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep
my commandments.
7
"You
shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God,
for
the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
8
"Remember
the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.
9
Six
days you shall labor and do all your work,
10
but
the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God.
On
it you shall not do any work,
neither
you,
nor
your son or daughter,
nor
your manservant or maidservant,
nor
your animals,
nor
10
the
alien within your gates.
11
For
in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea,
and
all that is in them,
but
he rested on the seventh day.
Therefore
the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12
"Honor
your father and your mother,
so
that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
13"
You
shall not murder.
14
"You
shall not commit adultery.
15
"You
shall not steal.
16
"You
shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
17
"You
shall not covet your neighbor's house.
You
shall not covet your neighbor's wife,
or
his manservant or maidservant,
his
ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
18
When
the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and
saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a
distance 19
and
said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do
not have God speak to us or we will die."
20
Moses
said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you,
so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning."
21
The
people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick
darkness where God was.
22
Then
the LORD said to Moses, "Tell
the Israelites this:
`You
have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven:
23
Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves
gods of silver or gods of gold.
24
"`Make
an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and
fellowship offerings,
B
your sheep and goats and your cattle.
Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless
you.
25
If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed
stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it.
26
And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed
on it.'

"These
are the laws you are to set before them:
2
"If
you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in
the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything.
3
If he comes alone, he is to go free alone;
but
if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him.
4
If his master gives him a wife and she bears him 11
sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her
master, and only the man shall go free.
5
"But
if the servant declares, `I love my master and my wife and children
and do not want to go free,'
6
then
his master must take him before the judges.
A
He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with
an awl.
Then
he will be his servant for life.
7
"If
a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as
menservants do.
8
If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself,
B
he must let her be redeemed.
He
has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith
with her.
9
If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a
daughter.
10
If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her
food, clothing and marital rights. 11
If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go
free, without any payment of money.
12
"Anyone
who strikes a man and kills him shall surely be put to death.
13
However, if he does not do it intentionally, but God lets it happen,
he is to flee to a place I will designate.
14
But if a man schemes and kills another man deliberately, take him
away from my altar and put him to death.
15
"Anyone
who attacks C
his father or his mother must be put to death.
16
"Anyone
who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is
caught must be put to death.
17
"Anyone
who curses his father or mother must be put to death.
18
"If
men quarrel and one hits the other with a stone or with his fist D
and he does not die but is confined to bed,
19
the one who struck the blow will not be held responsible if the other
gets up and walks around outside with his staff; however, he must pay
the injured man for the loss of his time and see that he is
completely healed.
20
"If
a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as
a direct result, he must be punished,
21
but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two,
since the slave is his property.

to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut
the kingdom of heaven in men's faces. You yourselves do not enter,
nor will you let those enter who are trying to. C

"Woe
to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he
becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.
16
"Woe
to you, blind guides!
You say,
`If
anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing;
but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his
oath.'
17
You
blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the
gold sacred?
18
You
also say,
`If
anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing;
but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.'
19
You
blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the
gift sacred?
20
Therefore,
he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
21
And
he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in
it.
22
And
he who swears by heaven swears by God's throne and by the one who
sits on it.
23
"Woe
to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin.
But
you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice,
mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without
neglecting the former.
24
You
blind guides!
You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
25
"Woe
to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full
of greed and self-indulgence.
26
Blind
Pharisee!
First
clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will
be clean.
27
"Woe
to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside
but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything
unclean.
28
In
the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on
the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
29
"Woe
to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites!
You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the
righteous.
30
And
you say,
`If
we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken
part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.'
31
So
you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those
who murdered the prophets.
32
Fill
up, then, the measure of the sin of your forefathers!
33
"You
snakes!
You brood of vipers!
How will you escape being condemned to hell?
34
Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers.
Some
of them you will kill and crucify;
others
you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.
35
And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed
on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah
son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
36
I tell you the truth, all this will come upon this generation.

"O
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent
to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as
a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.

Look,
your house is left to you desolate.

For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, `Blessed is
he who comes in the name of the Lord.'

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
