In
the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,

is like a bridegroom coming forth from his pavilion,

a champion rejoicing to run his course.

rises at one end of the heavens

is hidden from its heat.

The
law of the LORD is perfect,
reviving

statutes of the LORD are trustworthy,
making

precepts of the LORD are right,

commands of the LORD are radiant,

psalm of Asaph.
1
O
God, the nations have invaded your inheritance;
they
have defiled your holy temple,
they
have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.

They
have given the dead bodies of your servants
as
food to the birds of the air,
the
flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth.
3
They
have poured out blood like water
all
around Jerusalem,
and
there is no one to bury the dead.
4
We
are objects of reproach to our neighbors,
of
scorn and derision to those around us.
5
How
long, O LORD? Will you be angry forever?
How
long will your jealousy burn like fire?
6
Pour
out your wrath on the nations
that
do not acknowledge you,
on
the kingdoms
that
do not call on your name;

for
they have devoured Jacob
and
destroyed his homeland.

not hold against us the sins of the fathers;

not remain silent,

wicked and deceitful men

opened their mouths against me;

have spoken against me with lying tongues.

words of hatred they surround me;

attack me without cause.

return for my friendship they accuse me,
but
I am a man of prayer.

They
repay me evil for good,
and
hatred for my friendship.

Appoint

Better a poor man whose walk is blameless
than
a fool whose lips are perverse.

It
is not good to have zeal without knowledge,
nor
to be hasty and miss the way.

A
man's own folly ruins his life,
yet
his heart rages against the LORD.
4
Wealth
brings many friends,
but
a poor man's friend deserts him.
5
A
false witness will not go unpunished,
and
he who pours out lies will not go free.
6
Many
curry favor with a ruler,
and
everyone is the friend of a man who gives gifts.
7
A
poor man is shunned by all his relatives--
how
much more do his friends avoid him!
Though
he pursues them with pleading,
they
are nowhere to be found. A

He
who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
he
who cherishes understanding prospers.
9
A
false witness will not go unpunished,
and
he who pours out lies will perish.

It
is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury--
how
much worse for a slave to rule over princes!

man's wisdom gives him patience;
it
is to his glory to overlook an offense. 12

king's rage is like the roar of a lion,
but
his favor is like dew on the grass.

foolish son is his father's ruin,
and
a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.

Houses
and wealth are inherited from parents,

a prudent wife is from the LORD.

Laziness
brings on deep sleep,

the shiftless man goes hungry.

who obeys instructions guards his life,

he who is contemptuous of his ways will die.

He
who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD,
and
he will reward him for what he has done.

Discipline
your son, for in that there is hope;
do
not be a willing party to his death.

A
hot-tempered man must pay the penalty;
if
you rescue him, you will have to do it again.

Listen
to advice and accept instruction,
and
in the end you will be wise.
21
Many
are the plans in a man's heart,
but
it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.

What
a man desires is unfailing love B;
better
to be poor than a liar. 13

The
fear of the LORD leads to life:
Then
one rests content, untouched by trouble.

The
sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he
will not even bring it back to his mouth!

Flog
a mocker, and the simple will learn prudence;
rebuke
a discerning man, and he will gain knowledge.

who robs his father and drives out his mother

a son who brings shame and disgrace.

Stop
listening to instruction, my son,
and
you will stray from the words of knowledge.

corrupt witness mocks at justice,

EXODUS 28:1 - 43

"Have
Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along
with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve
me as priests.
2
Make
sacred garments for your brother Aaron, to give him dignity and
honor.
3
Tell
all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that
they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may
serve me as priest.
4
These are the garments they are to make:
a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash.
They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his
sons, so they may serve me as priests.
5
Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine
linen.
6
"Make
the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of
finely twisted linen--the work of a skilled craftsman.
7
It
is to have two shoulder pieces attached to two of its corners, so it
can be fastened.
8
Its
skillfully woven waistband is to be like it--of one piece with the
ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and
with finely twisted linen.
9
"Take
two onyx stones and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel
10
in the order of their birth--six names on one stone and the remaining
six on the other.
11
Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a
gem cutter engraves a seal.
Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings 12
and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial
stones for the sons of Israel.
Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the
LORD.
13
Make gold filigree settings 14
and
two braided chains of pure gold, like a rope, and attach the chains
to the settings.
15
"Fashion
a breastpiece for making decisions--the work of a skilled craftsman.
Make it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet
yarn, and of finely twisted linen.
16
It is to be square--a span A
long and a span wide--and folded double.
17
Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. In the first row there
shall be a ruby, a topaz and a beryl;
18
in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire B
and an emerald;
19
in the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst;
20
in the fourth row a chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper.
C
Mount them in gold filigree settings.
21
There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons
of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the
twelve tribes.
22
"For
the breastpiece make braided chains of pure gold, like a rope.
23
Make two gold rings for it and fasten them to two corners of the
breastpiece.
24
Fasten the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the
breastpiece,
25
and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them
to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front.
26
Make two gold rings and attach them to the other two corners of the
breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod.
27
Make two more gold rings and attach them to the bottom of the
shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just
above the waistband of the ephod.
28
The rings of the breastpiece are to be tied to the rings of the ephod
with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband, so that the
breastpiece will not swing out from the ephod.
29
"Whenever
Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of
Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing
memorial before the LORD.
30
Also put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastpiece, so they may be
over Aaron's heart whenever he 15
enters the presence of the LORD.
Thus
Aaron will always bear the means of making decisions for the
Israelites over his heart before the LORD.
31
"Make
the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth,
32
with an opening for the head in its center.
There
shall be a woven edge like a collar D
around this opening, so that it will not tear.
33
Make pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn around the hem of
the robe, with gold bells between them.
34
The gold bells and the pomegranates are to alternate around the hem
of the robe.
35
Aaron must wear it when he ministers.
The
sound of the bells will be heard when he enters the Holy Place before
the LORD and when he comes out, so that he will not die.
36
"Make
a plate of pure gold and engrave on it as on a seal:
HOLY TO THE LORD.
37
Fasten a blue cord to it to
attach
it to the turban;
it is to be on the front of the turban.
38
It will be on Aaron's forehead, and he will bear the guilt involved
in the sacred gifts the Israelites consecrate, whatever their gifts
may be.
It will be on Aaron's forehead continually so that they will be
acceptable to the LORD.
39
"Weave
the tunic of fine linen and make the turban of fine linen.
The
sash is to be the work of an embroiderer.
40
Make tunics, sashes and headbands for Aaron's sons, to give them
dignity and honor.
41
After you put these clothes on your brother Aaron and his sons,
anoint and ordain them.
Consecrate
them so they may serve me as priests.
42
"Make
linen undergarments as a covering for the body, reaching from the
waist to the thigh.
43
Aaron and his sons must wear them whenever they enter the Tent of
Meeting or approach the altar to minister in the Holy Place, so that
they will not incur guilt and die.

"When
the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he
will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32
All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the
people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the
goats.
33
He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34
"Then
the King will say to those on his right,
`Come,
you who are blessed by my Father;
take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the
creation of the world.
35
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me
in,
36
I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after
me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

"Then
the righteous will answer him,
`Lord,
when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you
something to drink?
38
When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes
and clothe you?

When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

"The
King will reply,
`I
tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers of mine, you did for me.'

"Then
he will say to those on his left,
`Depart
from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the
devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and
you gave me nothing to drink,
43
I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and
you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look
after me.'
44"
They also will answer,
`Lord,
when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing
clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
45"
He will reply,
`I
tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of
these, you did not do for me.'

Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to
eternal life."

Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples,

"As
you know, the Passover is two days away--and the Son of Man will be
handed over to be crucified."

the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the
palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4

they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him. 5
"But
not during the Feast," they said, "or there may be a riot
among the people."

While
Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper,

a
woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume,
which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

When
the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?"
they asked.

"This
perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to
the poor."

Aware
of this, Jesus said to them, "Why
are you bothering this woman?
She has done a beautiful thing to me.
11
The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have
me.
12
When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for
burial.
13
I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the
world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."
