MAY 6

PSALMS: 6, 36, 66, 96, 126

PROVERBS: 6

OLD TESTAMENT: 2 CHRONICLES 17:1 - 18:24

NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 9:25 - 10:13

PSALMS: 6

1 For the leader.

With stringed instruments.

On sh'minit [low-pitched musical instruments?].

A psalm of David:

ADONAI, don't rebuke me in your anger,

don't discipline me in the heat of your fury.

2 Be gracious to me, ADONAI,

because I am withering away;

heal me, ADONAI, because my bones are shaking;

3 I am completely terrified;

and you, ADONAI - how long?

4 Come back, ADONAI, and rescue me!

Save me for the sake of your grace;

5 for in death, no one remembers you;

in Sh'ol, who will praise you?

6 I am worn out with groaning;

all night I drench my bed with tears,

flooding my couch till it swims.

7 My vision is darkened with anger;

it grows weak because of all my foes.

8 Get away from me, all you workers of evil!

For ADONAI has heard the sound of my weeping,

9 ADONAI has heard my pleading,

ADONAI will accept my prayer.

10 All my enemies will be confounded, completely terrified;

they will turn back and be suddenly put to shame.

PSALMS: 36

1 For the leader.

By David, the servant of ADONAI:

Crime speaks to the wicked.

I perceive this in my heart;

before his eyes there is no fear of God.

2 For, the way he sees it, crime makes his life easy that is,

until his wrongs are discovered;

then, he is hated.

3 His words are wrong and deceitful;

he has stopped being wise and doing good.

4 He devises trouble as he lies in bed;

so set is he on his own bad way that he doesn't hate evil.

5 ADONAI, in the heavens is your grace;

your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God,

your judgments are like the great deep.

You save man and beast, ADONAI.

7 How precious, God, is your grace!

People take refuge in the shadow of your wings,

8 they feast on the rich bounty of your house,

and you have them drink from the stream of your delights.

9 For with you is the fountain of life;

in your light we see light.

10 Continue your grace to those who know you

and your righteousness to the upright in heart.

11 Don't let the foot of the proud tread on me

or the hands of the wicked drive me away.

12 There they lie fallen, those evildoers,

flung down and unable to rise.

PSALMS: 66

1 For the leader.

A song.

A psalm:

Shout to God, all the earth!

2 Sing the glory of his name,

make his praise glorious.

3 Tell God, "How awesome are your deeds!

At your great power, your enemies cringe.

4 All the earth bows down to you, sings praises to you,

sings praises to your name."

(Selah)

5 Come and see what God has done,

his awesome dealings with humankind.

6 He turned the sea into dry land.

They passed through the river on foot;

there we rejoiced in him.

7  With his power he rules forever;

his eyes keep watch on the nations.

Let no rebel arise to challenge him.

8 Bless our God, you peoples!

Let the sound of his praise be heard!

9 He preserves our lives and keeps our feet from stumbling.

(Selah)

10 For you, God, have tested us,

refined us as silver is refined.

11 You brought us into the net

and bound our bodies fast.

12 You made men ride over our heads;

we went through fire and water.

But you brought us out to a place of plenty.

13 I will come into your house with burnt offerings,

I will fulfill my vows to you,

14 those my lips pronounced and my mouth spoke

when I was in distress.

15 I will offer you burnt offerings of fattened animals,

along with the sweet smoke of rams;

I will offer bulls and goats. (Selah)

16 Come and listen, all you who fear God,

and I will tell what he has done for me.

17 I cried out to him with my mouth,

his praise was on my tongue.

18 Had I cherished evil thoughts,

Adonai would not have listened.

19 But in fact, God did listen;

he paid attention to my prayer.

20 Blessed be God, who did not reject my prayer

or turn his grace away from me.

PSALMS: 96

1 Sing to ADONAI a new song!

Sing to ADONAI, all the earth!

2 Sing to ADONAI, bless his name!

Proclaim his victory day after day!

3 Declare his glory among the nations,

his wonders among all peoples!

4 For ADONAI is great, and greatly to be praised;

he is to be feared more than all gods.

5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

but ADONAI made the heavens.

6 In his presence are honor and majesty;

in his sanctuary, strength and splendor.

7 Give ADONAI his due, you families from the peoples;

give ADONAI his due of glory and strength;

8 give ADONAI the glory due to his name;

bring an offering, and enter his courtyards.

9 Worship ADONAI in holy splendor;

tremble before him, all the earth!

10 Say among the nations, "ADONAI is king!

"The world is firmly established, immovable.

He will judge the peoples fairly.

11 Let the heavens rejoice; let the earth be glad;

let the sea roar, and everything in it;

12 let the fields exult and all that is in them.

Then all the trees in the forest will sing

13 before ADONAI, because he has come, he has come to judge the earth;

he will judge the world rightly and the peoples with his faithfulness.

PSALMS: 126

1 When the LORD brought back those who returned to Tziyon,

We were like those who dream.

2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,

And our tongue with singing.

Then said they among the nations,

"The LORD has done great things for them."

3 The LORD has done great things for us,

And we are glad.

4 Restore our fortunes again, LORD,

Like the streams in the Negev.

5 Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.

6 He who goes out weeping, carrying seed for sowing,

Will assuredly come again with joy, carrying his sheaves.

PROVERBS: 6

1 My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor,

If you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;

2 You are trapped by the words of your mouth.

You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.

3 Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself,

Seeing you have come into the hand of your neighbor.

Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.

4 Give no sleep to your eyes,

Nor slumber to your eyelids.

5 Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,

Like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard.

Consider her ways, and be wise;

7  Which having no chief, Overseer, or ruler,

8 Provides her bread in the summer,

And gathers her food in the harvest.

9 How long will you sleep, sluggard?

When will you arise out of your sleep?

10 A little sleep, a little slumber,

A little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So your poverty will come as a robber,

And your scarcity as an armed man.

12 A worthless person, a man of iniquity,

Is he who walks with a perverse mouth;

13 Who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet,

Who motions with his fingers;

14 In whose heart is perverseness,

Who devises evil continually,

Who always sows discord.

15 Therefore his calamity will come suddenly.

He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

16 There are six things which the LORD hates;

Yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,

Hands that shed innocent blood;

18 A heart that devises wicked schemes,

Feet that are swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness who utters lies,

And he who sows discord among brothers.

20 My son, keep your father's mitzvah,

And don't forsake your mother's teaching.

21 Bind them continually on your heart.

Tie them around your neck.

22 When you walk, it will lead you.

When you sleep, it will watch over you.

When you awake, it will talk with you.

23 For the mitzvah is a lamp,

And the law is light.

Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

24 To keep you from the immoral woman,

From the flattery of the wayward wife's tongue.

25 Don't lust after her beauty in your heart,

Neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.

26 For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread.

The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap,

And his clothes not be burned?

28 Or can one walk on hot coals,

And his feet not be scorched?

29 So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife.

Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.

30 Men don't despise a thief,

If he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:

31 But if he be found, he shall restore seven times.

He shall give all the wealth of his house.

32 He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding.

He who does it destroys his own soul.

33 He will get wounds and dishonor.

His reproach will not be wiped away.

34 For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband.

He won't spare in the day of vengeance.

35 He won't regard any ransom,

Neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.

OLD TESTAMENT: 2 CHRONICLES 17:1 - 18:24

17:1 Yehoshafat his son reigned in his place, and strengthened himself against Yisra'el. 2 He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Yehudah, and set garrisons in the land of Yehudah, and in the cities of Efrayim, which Asa his father had taken. 3 The LORD was with Yehoshafat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and didn't seek the Ba`alim, 4 but sought to the God of his father, and walked in his mitzvot, and not after the doings of Yisra'el. 5 Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Yehudah brought to Yehoshafat tribute; and he had riches and honor in abundance. 6 His heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: and furthermore he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Yehudah. 7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben-Hayil, and `Ovadyah, and Zekharyah, and Netan'el, and Mikhayahu, to teach in the cities of Yehudah; 8 and with them the Levites, even Shemayah, and Netanyah, and Zevadyah, and `Asa'el, and Shemiramot, and Yehonatan, and Adoniyahu, and Toviyah, and Tov-Adoniyah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Yehoram, the Kohanim. 9 They taught in Yehudah, having the book of the law of the LORD with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Yehudah, and taught among the people. 10 The fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Yehudah, so that they made no war against Yehoshafat. 11 Some of the Pelishtim brought Yehoshafat presents, and silver for tribute; the `Aravi'im also brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred male goats. 12 Yehoshafat grew great exceedingly; and he built in Yehudah castles and cities of store. 13 He had many works in the cities of Yehudah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Yerushalayim. 14 This was the numbering of them according to their fathers' houses: Of Yehudah, the captains of thousands: `Adnach the captain, and with him mighty men of valor three hundred thousand; 15 and next to him Yehochanan the captain, and with him two hundred eighty thousand; 16 and next to him `Amasyah the son of Zikhri, who willingly offered himself to the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valor. 17  Of Binyamin: Elyada a mighty man of valor, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield; 18 and next to him Yehozavad and with him one hundred eighty thousand ready prepared for war. 19 These were those who waited on the king, besides those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Yehudah.

18:1 Now Yehoshafat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ach'av. 2 After certain years he went down to Ach'av to Shomron. Ach'av killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up [with him] to Ramot-Gil`ad. 3 Ach'av king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat king of Yehudah, Will you go with me to Ramot-Gil`ad? He answered him, I am as you are, and my people as your people; and [we will be] with you in the war. 4 Yehoshafat said to the king of Yisra'el, Please inquire first for the word of the LORD. 5 Then the king of Yisra'el gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, Shall we go to Ramot-Gil`ad to battle, or shall I forbear? They said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king. 6 But Yehoshafat said, Isn't there here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we may inquire of him? 7  The king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil: the same is Mikhayahu the son of Imla. Yehoshafat said, Don't let the king say so. 8 Then the king of Yisra'el called an officer, and said, Get quickly Mikhayahu the son of Imla. 9 Now the king of Yisra'el and Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Shomron; and all the prophets were prophesying before them. 10 Tzidkiyahu the son of Kena`anah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus says the LORD, With these shall you push the Aram, until they be consumed. 11 All the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramot-Gil`ad, and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king. 12 The messenger who went to call Mikhayahu spoke to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets [declare] good to the king with one mouth: let your word therefore, Please be like one of theirs, and speak you good. 13 Mikhayahu said, As the LORD lives, what my God says, that will I speak. 14 When he was come to the king, the king said to him, Mikhayahu, shall we go to Ramot-Gil`ad to battle, or shall I forbear? He said, Go up, and prosper; and they shall be delivered into your hand. 15 The king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD? 16 He said, I saw all Yisra'el scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in shalom. 17  The king of Yisra'el said to Yehoshafat, Didn't I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil? 18 [Mikhayahu] said, Therefore hear you the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left. 19 The LORD said, Who shall entice Ach'av king of Yisra'el, that he may go up and fall at Ramot-Gil`ad? One spoke saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner. 20 There came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. The LORD said to him, 'How?' 21 He said, 'I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You shall entice him, and shall prevail also: go forth, and do so.' 22 Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets; and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you. 23 Then Tzidkiyahu the son of Kena`anah came near, and struck Mikhayahu on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you? 24 Mikhayahu said, Behold, you shall see on that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.

NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 9:25 - 10:13

9:25 As he says also in Hoshea, "I will call them 'my people,' which were not my people; And her 'beloved,' who was not beloved." 26 "It will be that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' There they will be called 'sons of the living God.'" 27 Yesha`yahu cries concerning Yisra'el, "If the number of the children of Yisra'el are as the sand of the sea, It is the remnant who will be saved; 28 For He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, Because the LORD will make a short work upon the eretz." 29 As Yesha`yahu has said before, "Unless the Lord of Hosts had left us a seed, We would have become like Sedom, And would have been made like `Amorah." 30 What shall we say then? That the Goyim, who didn't follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith; 31 but Yisra'el, following after a law of righteousness, didn't arrive at the law of righteousness. 32 Why? Because they didn't seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone; 33 even as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Tziyon a stumbling stone and a rock of offense; And no one who believes in him will be put to shame."

10:1 Brothers, my heart's desire and my prayer to God is for Yisra'el, that they may be saved. 2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn't subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Messiah is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 5 For Moshe writes about the righteousness of the law, "The one who does them will live by them." 6 But the righteousness which is of faith says this, "Don't say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' (that is, to bring Messiah down); 7 or, 'Who will descend into the abyss?' (that is, to bring Messiah up from the dead.)" 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart;" that is, the word of faith, which we preach: 9 that if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Yeshua, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Yehudi and Yevanit; for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on him. 13 For, "Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
