MAY 16

PSALMS: 16, 46, 76, 106, 136

PROVERBS: 16

OLD TESTAMENT: EZRA 1:1 – 2:70

NEW TESTAMENT: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18 – 2:5

PSALMS: 16

1 Preserve me, God, for in you do I take refuge.

2 My soul, you have said to the LORD,

"You are my Lord.

Apart from you I have no good thing."

3 As for the holy ones who are in the eretz,

They are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied who give gifts to another god.

Their drink-offerings of blood I will not offer,

Nor take their names on my lips.

5 The LORD assigned my portion and my cup.

You made my lot secure.

6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places.

Yes, I have a good inheritance.

7  I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel.

Yes, my heart instructs me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the LORD always before me.

Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices.

My body shall also dwell in safety.

10 For you will not leave my soul in She'ol,

Neither will you allow your holy one to see corruption.

11 You will show me the path of life.

In your presence is fullness of joy.

In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

PSALMS: 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore will we not be afraid, though the eretz changes,

Though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;

3 Though the waters of it roar and are troubled,

Though the mountains tremble with the swelling of it. Selah.

4 There is a river, the streams of which make the city of God glad,

The holy place of the tents of Ha`Elyon.

5 God is in the midst of her.

She shall not be moved.

God will help her at dawn.

6 The nations raged. The kingdoms were moved.

He uttered his voice, and the eretz melted.

7  The LORD of Hosts is with us.

The God of Ya`akov is our refuge. Selah.

8 Come, see the works of the LORD,

What desolations he has made in the eretz.

9 He makes wars cease to the end of the eretz.

He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear apart.

He burns the chariots in the fire.

10 "Be still, and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations.

I will be exalted in the eretz."

11 The LORD of Hosts is with us.

The God of Ya`akov is our refuge. Selah.

PSALMS: 76

1 In Yehudah, God is known.

His name is great in Yisra'el.

2 His tent is also in Shalem;

His dwelling-place in Tziyon.

3 There he broke the flaming arrows of the bow,

The shield, and the sword, and the weapons of war.

Selah.

4 Glorious are you, and excellent,

More than mountains of game.

5 Valiant men lie plundered,

They have slept their last sleep.

None of the men of war can lift their hands.

6 At your rebuke, God of Ya`akov,

Both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.

7 You, even you, are to be feared.

Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?

8 You pronounced judgment from heaven.

The eretz feared, and was silent,

9 When God arose to judgment,

To save all the afflicted ones of the eretz. Selah.

10 Surely the wrath of man praises you.

The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

11 Make vows to the LORD your God, and fulfill them!

Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.

12 He will cut off the spirit of princes.

He is feared by the kings of the eretz.

PSALMS: 106

1 Praise the LORD!

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,

For his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD,

Or fully declare all his praise?

3 Blessed are those who keep justice,

He who does righteousness at all times.

4 Remember me, LORD, with the favor that you show to your people.

Visit me with your yeshu`ah,

5 That I may see the prosperity of your chosen,

That I may rejoice in the gladness of your nation,

That I may glory with your inheritance.

6 We have sinned with our fathers.

We have committed iniquity.

We have done wickedly.

7  Our fathers didn't understand your wonders in Mitzrayim.

They didn't remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses,

But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Sea of Suf.

8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake,

That he might make his mighty power known.

9 He rebuked the Sea of Suf also, and it was dried up;

So he led them through the depths, as through a desert.

10 He saved them from the hand of him who hated them,

And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

11 The waters covered their adversaries.

There was not one of them left.

12 Then they believed his words.

They sang his praise.

13 They soon forgot his works.

They didn't wait for his counsel,

14 But gave in to craving in the desert,

And tested God in the wasteland.

15 He gave them their request,

But sent leanness into their soul.

16 They envied Moshe also in the camp,

And Aharon, the LORD's holy one.

17 The eretz opened and swallowed up Datan,

And covered the company of Aviram.

18 A fire was kindled in their company.

The flame burned up the wicked.

19 They made a calf in Horev,

And worshiped a molten image.

20 Thus they exchanged their glory

For an image of a bull that eats grass.

21 They forgot God, their Savior,

Who had done great things in Mitzrayim,

22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham,

And awesome things by the Sea of Suf.

23 Therefore he said that he would destroy them,

Had Moshe, his chosen, not stood before him in the breach,

To turn away his wrath, so that he wouldn't destroy them.

24 Yes, they despised the pleasant land.

They didn't believe his word,

25 But murmured in their tents,

And didn't listen to the voice of the LORD.

26 Therefore he swore to them

That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

27 That he would overthrow their seed among the nations,

And scatter them in the lands.

28 They joined themselves also to Ba`al-Pe`or,

And ate the sacrifices of the dead.

29 Thus they provoked him to anger with their deeds.

The plague broke in on them.

30 Then Pinechas stood up, and executed judgment,

So the plague was stopped.

31 That was credited to him for righteousness,

To all generations forevermore.

32 They angered him also at the waters of Merivah,

So that Moshe was troubled for their sakes;

33 Because they were rebellious against his spirit,

He spoke rashly with his lips.

34 They didn't destroy the peoples,

As the LORD commanded them,

35 But mixed themselves with the nations,

Learned their works.

36 They served their idols,

Which became a snare to them.

37  Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.

38 They shed innocent blood,

Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,

Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Kana`an.

The land was polluted with blood.

39 Thus were they defiled with their works,

And prostituted themselves in their deeds.

40 Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against his people.

He abhorred his inheritance.

41 He gave them into the hand of the nations.

Those who hated them ruled over them.

42 Their enemies also oppressed them.

They were brought into subjection under their hand.

43 Many times he delivered them,

But they were rebellious in their counsel,

And were brought low in their iniquity.

44 Nevertheless he regarded their distress,

When he heard their cry.

45 He remembered for them his covenant,

And repented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses.

46 He made them also to be pitied

By all those who carried them captive.

47 Save us, LORD, our God,

Gather us from among the nations,

To give thanks to your holy name,

To triumph in your praise!

48 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Yisra'el,

From everlasting even to everlasting!

Let all the people say, ‘

"Amein.

" Praise the LORD!

PSALMS: 136

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

2 Give thanks to the God of gods;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

4 To him who alone does great wonders;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

5 To him who by understanding made the heavens;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

6 To him who spread out the eretz above the waters;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

7  To him who made the great lights;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

8 The sun to rule by day;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

9 The moon and stars to rule by night;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

10 To him who struck down the Mitzrian firstborn;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

11 And brought out Yisra'el from among them;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

12 With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

13 To him who divided the Sea of Suf apart;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

14 Made Yisra'el to pass through the midst of it;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

15 But overthrew Par`oh and his host in the Sea of Suf;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

16 To him who led his people through the wilderness;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

17 To him who struck great kings;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

18 And killed mighty kings;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

19 Sichon king of the Amori;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

20 `Og king of Bashan;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

21 And gave their land as an inheritance;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

22 Even a heritage to Yisra'el his servant;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

23 Who remembered us in our low estate;

For his loving kindness endures forever;

24 And has delivered us from our adversaries;

For his loving kindness endures forever:

25 Who gives food to every creature;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

26 Oh give thanks to the God of heaven;

For his loving kindness endures forever.

PROVERBS: 16

1 The plans of the heart belong to man,

But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;

But the LORD weighs the motives.

3 Commit your deeds to the LORD,

And your plans shall succeed.

4 The LORD has made everything for its own end --

Yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD:

They shall assuredly not be unpunished.

6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for.

By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

7 When a man's ways please the LORD,

He makes even his enemies to be at shalom with him.

8 Better is a little with righteousness,

Than great revenues with injustice.

9 A man's heart plans his course,

But the LORD directs his steps.

10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king.

He shall not betray his mouth.

11 Honest balances and scales are the LORD's;

All the weights in the bag are his work.

12 It is an abomination for kings to do wrong,

For the throne is established by righteousness.

13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings.

They value one who speaks the truth.

14 The king's wrath is a messenger of death,

But a wise man will pacify it.

15 In the light of the king's face is life.

His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.

16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold!

Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

17  The highway of the upright is to depart from evil.

He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

18 Pride goes before destruction,

A haughty spirit before a fall.

19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor,

Than to divide the plunder with the proud.

20 He who gives heed to the Word finds prosperity.

Whoever trusts in the LORD is blessed.

21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent.

Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.

22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it,

But the punishment of fools is their folly.

23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth,

And adds learning to his lips.

24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb,

Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 There is a way which seems right to a man,

But in the end it leads to death.

26 The appetite of the laboring man labors for him;

For his mouth urges him on.

27 A worthless man devises mischief.

His speech is like a scorching fire.

28 A perverse man stirs up strife.

A whisperer separates close friends.

29 A man of violence entices his neighbor,

And leads him in a way that is not good.

30 One who winks his eyes to plot perversities,

One who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.

31 Gray hair is a crown of glory.

It is attained by a life of righteousness.

32 One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty;

One who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap,

But its every decision is from the LORD.

OLD TESTAMENT: EZRA 1:1 – 2:70

1:1 Now in the first year of Koresh king of Paras, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Yirmeyahu might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Koresh king of Paras, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and [put it] also in writing, saying, 2 Thus says Koresh king of Paras, All the kingdoms of the eretz has the LORD, the God of heaven, given me; and he has charged me to build him a house in Yerushalayim, which is in Yehudah. 3 Whoever there is among you of all his people, his God be with him, and let him go up to Yerushalayim, which is in Yehudah, and build the house of the LORD, the God of Yisra'el (he is God), which is in Yerushalayim. 4 Whoever is left, in any place where he sojourns, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with animals, besides the freewill-offering for the house of God which is in Yerushalayim. 5 Then rose up the heads of fathers' [houses] of Yehudah and Binyamin, and the Kohanim, and the Levites, even all whose spirit God had stirred to go up to build the house of the LORD which is in Yerushalayim. 6 All those who were round about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with animals, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly offered. 7 Also Koresh the king brought forth the vessels of the house of the LORD, which Nevukhadnetztzar had brought forth out of Yerushalayim, and had put in the house of his gods; 8 even those did Koresh king of Paras bring forth by the hand of Mitredat the treasurer, and numbered them to Sheshbatztzer, the prince of Yehudah. 9 This is the number of them: thirty platters of gold, one thousand platters of silver, twenty-nine knives, 10 thirty bowls of gold, silver bowls of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels one thousand. 11 All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these did Sheshbatztzer bring up, when they of the captivity were brought up from Bavel to Yerushalayim.

2:1 Now these are the children of the province, who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nevukhadnetztzar the king of Bavel had carried away to Bavel, and who returned to Yerushalayim and Yehudah, everyone to his city; 2 who came with Zerubbavel, Yeshua, Nechemyah, Serayah, Re`elayah, Mordekhai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rechum, Ba`anah. but they could not show their fathers' houses, and their seed, whether they were of Yisra'el: 60 the children of Delayah, the children of Toviyah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty-two. 61 Of the children of the Kohanim: the children of Havayah, the children of Hakkotz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gil`adite, and was called after their name. 62 These sought their register [among] those who were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood. 63 The governor said to them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, until there stood up a Kohen with Urim and with Tummim. 64 The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty, 65 besides their men-servants and their maid-servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven: and they had two hundred singing men and singing women. 66 Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five; 67  their camels, four hundred thirty-five; [their] donkeys, six thousand seven hundred and twenty. 68 Some of the heads of fathers' [houses], when they came to the house of the LORD which is in Yerushalayim, offered willingly for the house of God to set it up in its place: 69 they gave after their ability into the treasury of the work sixty-one thousand darics of gold, and five thousand minas of silver, and one hundred Kohanim' garments. 70 So the Kohanim, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the temple servants, lived in their cities, and all Yisra'el in their cities.

NEW TESTAMENT: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:18 – 2:5

1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are saved it is the power of God.

19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing."

20Where is the wise? Where is the Sofer? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn't God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn't know God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.

22 For Yehudim ask for signs, Yevanim seek after wisdom,

23 but we preach Messiah crucified; a stumbling block to Yehudim, and foolishness to Yevanim,

24 but to those who are called, both Yehudim and Yevanim, Messiah is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

26 For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;

27 but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;

28 and God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that are not, that he might bring to nothing the things that are:

29 that no flesh should boast before God.

30 But of him, you are in Messiah Yeshua, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:

31 that, according as it is written, "He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord."

2:1 When I came to you, brothers, I didn't come with excellence of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know anything among you, except Yeshua the Messiah, and him crucified.

3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.

4 My speech and my preaching were not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

5 that your faith wouldn't stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
