PSALMS: 22
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from helping me,
and from the words of my groaning?
2 My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don't answer;
In the night season, and am not silent.
3 But you are holy,
You who inhabit the praises of Yisra'el.
4 Our fathers trusted in you.
They trusted, and you delivered them.
5 They cried to you, and were delivered.
They trusted in you, and were not put to shame.
6 But I am a worm, and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised by the people.
7 All those who see me mock me.
They insult me with their lips.
They shake their heads, saying,
8 "He trusts in the LORD; Let him deliver him;
Let him rescue him, since he delights in him."
9 But you brought me out of the womb.
You made me trust at my mother's breasts.
10 I was thrown on you from my mother's womb.
You are my God since my mother bore me.
11 Don't be far from me, for trouble is near.
For there is none to help.
12 Many bulls have surrounded me.
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
13 They open their mouths wide against me,
Lions tearing prey and roaring.
14 I am poured out like water.
All my bones are out of joint.
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd.
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You have brought me into the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded me.
A company of evil-doers have enclosed me.
They pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all of my bones.
They look and stare at me.
18 They divide my garments among them.
They cast lots for my clothing.
19 But don't be far off, LORD.
You are my help: hurry to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
My precious life from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion's mouth;
Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me.
22 I will declare your name to my brothers.
In the midst of the assembly, will I praise you.
23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!
All you descendants of Ya`akov, glorify him!
Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Yisra'el!
24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted,
Neither has he hid his face from him;
But when he cried to him, he heard.
25 Of you comes my praise in the great assembly.
I will pay my vows before those who fear him.
26 The humble shall eat and be satisfied.
They shall praise the LORD who seek after him.
Let your hearts live forever.
27 All the ends of the eretz shall remember and turn to the LORD.
All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.
28 For the kingdom is the LORD's.
He is the ruler over the nations.
29 All the rich ones of the eretz shall eat and worship.
All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him,
Even he who can't keep his soul alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him.
Future generations shall be told about the Lord.
31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, For he has done it.
PSALMS: 52
1 Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?
God's loving kindness endures continually.
2 Your tongue plots destruction,
Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 You love evil more than good,
Lying rather than speaking the truth.
Selah.
4 You love all devouring words,
You deceitful tongue.
5 God will likewise destroy you forever.
He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent,
And root you out of the land of the living.
Selah.
6 The righteous also will see it, and fear,
And laugh at him, saying,
7 "Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength,
But trusted in the abundance of his riches,
And strengthened himself in his wickedness."
8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house.
I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.
9 I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.
I will hope in your name, for it is good,
In the presence of your holy ones.
PSALMS: 82
1 God presides in the great assembly.
He judges among the gods.
2 "How long will you judge unjustly,
And show partiality to the wicked?"
Selah.
3 "Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless.
Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
4 Rescue the weak and needy.
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked."
5 They don't know, neither do they understand.
They walk back and forth in darkness.
All the foundations of the eretz are shaken.
6 I said, "You are gods,
All of you are sons of Ha`Elyon.
7 Nevertheless you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the rulers."
8 Arise, God, judge the eretz,
For you inherit all of the nations.
PSALMS: 112
1 Praise the LORD!
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
Who delights greatly in his mitzvot.
2 His seed will be mighty on eretz.
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house.
His righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright,
Gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends.
He will maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will never be shaken.
The righteous will be remembered forever.
7 He will not be afraid of evil news.
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established.
He will not be afraid in the end when he sees his adversaries.
9 He has dispersed, he has given to the poor.
His righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted with honor.
10 The wicked will see it, and be grieved.
He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away.
The desire of the wicked will perish.
PSALMS: 142
1 I cry with my voice to the LORD.
With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy.
2 I pour out my complaint before him.
I tell him my troubles.
3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
You knew my path.
In the way in which I walk,
They have hidden a snare for me.
4 Look on my right, and see;
For there is no one who is concerned for me.
Refuge has fled from me.
No one cares for my soul.
5 I cried to you, the LORD.
I said, "You are my refuge,
My portion in the land of the living."
6 Listen to my cry,
For I am in desperate need.
Deliver me from my persecutors,
For they are stronger than me.
7 Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may give thanks to your name.
The righteous will surround me,
For you will be good to me.
PROVERBS: 22
1 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
Loving favor rather than silver and gold.
2 The rich and the poor have this in common:
The LORD is the maker of them all.
3 A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself;
But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4 The result of humility and the fear of the LORD
Is wealth, honor, and life.
5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked:
Whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 The rich rules over the poor.
The borrower is servant to the lender.
8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,
And the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed;
For he shares his food with the poor.
10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out;
Yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully Is the king's friend.
12 The eyes of the LORD watch over knowledge;
But he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 The sluggard says,
"There is a lion outside!
I will be killed in the streets!"
14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit:
He who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child:
The rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich,
Both come to poverty.
17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise.
Apply your heart to my teaching.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you,
If all of them are ready on your lips.
19 That your trust may be in the LORD,
I teach you today, even you.
20 Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things
Of counsel and knowledge,
21 To teach you truth, reliable words,
To give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22 Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor;
And don't crush the needy in court;
23 For the LORD will plead their case,
And plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24 Don't befriend a hot-tempered man,
And don't associate with one who harbors anger:
25 Lest you learn his ways,
And ensnare your soul.
26 Don't you be one of those who strike hands,
Of those who are collateral for debts.
27 If you don't have means to pay,
Why should he take away your bed from under you?
28 Don't move the ancient boundary stone,
Which your fathers have set up.
29 Do you see a man skilled in his work?
He will serve kings;
He won't serve obscure men.
OLD TESTAMENT: NEHEMIAH 1:1 - 3:14
1:1 The words of Nechemyah the son of Hakhalyah. Now it happened in the month Kislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, 2 that Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Yehudah; and I asked them concerning the Yehudim who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Yerushalayim. 3 They said to me, The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Yerushalayim also is broken down, and the gates of it are burned with fire. 4 It happened, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven, 5 and said, I beg you, LORD, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and lovingkindness with those who love him and keep his mitzvot: 6 Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Yisra'el your servants while I confess the sins of the children of Yisra'el, which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father's house have sinned: 7 we have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the mitzvot, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moshe. 8 Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moshe, saying, If you trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples: 9 but if you return to me, and keep my mitzvot and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there. 10 Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power, and by your strong hand. 11 Lord, I beg you, let now your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cup bearer to the king.
2:1 It happened in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artachshasta the king, when wine was before him, that I took up the wine, and gave it to the king. Now I had not been [before] sad in his presence. 2 The king said to me, Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid. 3 I said to the king, Let the king live forever: why should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste, and the gates of it are consumed with fire? 4 Then the king said to me, For what do you make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. 5 I said to the king, If it please the king, and if your servant have found favor in your sight, that you would send me to Yehudah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may build it. 6 The king said to me (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall your journey be? and when will you return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. 7 Moreover I said to the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Yehudah; 8 and a letter to Asaf the keeper of the king's forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the castle which appertains to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. The king granted me, according to the good hand of my God on me. 9 Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent with me captains of the army and horsemen. 10 When Sanvallat the Horonite, and Toviyah the servant, the `Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly, because a man had come to seek the welfare of the children of Yisra'el. 11 So I came to Yerushalayim, and was there three days. 12 I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God put into my heart to do for Yerushalayim; neither was there any animal with me, except the animal that I rode on. 13 I went out by night by the valley gate, even toward the jackal's well, and to the dung gate, and viewed the walls of Yerushalayim, which were broken down, and the gates of it were consumed with fire. 14 Then I went on to the spring gate and to the king's pool: but there was no place for the animal that was under me to pass. 15 Then went I up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall; and I turned back, and entered by the valley gate, and so returned. 16 The rulers didn't know where I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Yehudim, nor to the Kohanim, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest who did the work. 17 Then said I to them, You see the evil case that we are in, how Yerushalayim lies waste, and the gates of it are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Yerushalayim, that we be no more a reproach. 18 I told them of the hand of my God which was good on me, as also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. They said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for the good [work]. 19 But when Sanvallat the Horonite, and Toviyah the servant, the `Ammonite, and Geshem the `Arvian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that you do? will you rebel against the king? 20 Then answered I them, and said to them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but you have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Yerushalayim.
3:1 Then Elyashiv the Kohen Gadol rose up with his brothers the Kohanim, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even to the tower of Hammeah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hanan'el. 2 Next to him built the men of Yericho. Next to them built Zakkur the son of Imri. 3 The fish gate did the sons of Sena'ah build; they laid the beams of it, and set up the doors of it, the bolts of it, and the bars of it. 4 Next to them repaired Meremot the son of Uriyah, the son of Hakkotz. Next to them repaired Meshullam the son of Berekhyah, the son of Meshezav'el. Next to them repaired Tzadok the son of Ba`anah. 5 Next to them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles didn't put their necks to the work of their lord. 6 The old gate repaired Yoiada the son of Pase'ach and Meshullam the son of Besodyah; they laid the beams of it, and set up the doors of it, and the bolts of it, and the bars of it. 7 Next to them repaired Melatyah the Giv`oni, and Yadon the Meronotite, the men of Giv`on, and of Mitzpah, [that appertained] to the throne of the governor beyond the River. 8 Next to him repaired `Uzzi'el the son of Harchayah, goldsmiths. Next to him repaired Hananyah one of the perfumers, and they fortified Yerushalayim even to the broad wall. 9 Next to them repaired Refayah the son of Hur, the ruler of half the district of Yerushalayim. 10 Next to them repaired Yedayah the son of Harumaf, over against his house. Next to him repaired Hattush the son of Hashavneyah. 11 Malkiyah the son of Harim, and Hashshuv the son of Pachat-Mo'av, repaired another portion, and the tower of the furnaces.
12 Next to him repaired Shallum the son of Hallochesh, the ruler of half the district of Yerushalayim, he and his daughters. 13 The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoach; they built it, and set up the doors of it, the bolts of it, and the bars of it, and one thousand cubits of the wall to the dung gate. 14 The dung gate repaired Malkiyah the son of Rechav, the ruler of the district of Beit-Hakkerem; he built it, and set up the doors of it, the bolts of it, and the bars of it.
NEW TESTAMENT: 1 CORINTHIANS 7:1 - 24
7:1 Now concerning the things about which you wrote to me: it is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 But, because of sexual immoralities, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.
3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection owed her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.
4 The wife doesn't have authority over her own body, but the husband. Likewise also the husband doesn't have authority over his own body, but the wife.
5 Don't deprive one another, unless it is by consent for a season, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer, and may be together again, that Hasatan doesn't tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
6 But this I say by way of concession, not of mitzvah.
7 Yet I wish that all men were like me. However each man has his own gift from God, one of this kind, and another of that kind.
8 But I say to the unmarried and to widows, it is good for them if they remain even as I am.
9 But if they don't have self-control, let them marry. For it's better to marry than to burn.
10 But to the married I command -- not I, but the Lord -- that the wife not leave her husband
11 (but if she departs, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband not leave his wife.
12 But to the rest I -- not the Lord -- say, if any brother has an unbelieving wife, and she is content to live with him, let him not leave her.
13 The woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he is content to live with her, let her not leave her husband.
14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified in the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified in the husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but now are they holy.
15 Yet if the unbeliever departs, let there be separation. The brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us in shalom.
16 For how do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?
17 Only, as the Lord has distributed to each man, as God has called each, so let him walk. So I command in all the assemblies.
18 Was anyone called being circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Has any been called in uncircumcision? Let him not be circumcised.
19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the mitzvot of God.
20 Let each man stay in that calling in which he was called.
21 Were you called being a bondservant? Don't let that bother you, but if you get an opportunity to become free, use it.
22 For he who was called in the Lord being a bondservant is the Lord's free man. Likewise he who was called being free is Messiah's bondservant.
23 You were bought with a price. Don't become bondservants of men.
24 Brothers, let each man, in whatever condition he was called, stay in that condition with God.
