PSALMS: 10
1 Why do you stand far off, LORD?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak;
They are caught in the schemes that they devise.
3 For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings,
He blesses the greedy, and condemns the LORD.
4 The wicked, in the pride of his face,
Has no room in his thoughts for God.
5 His ways are prosperous at all times;
He is haughty, and your laws are far from his sight:
As for all his adversaries, he sneers at them.
6 He says in his heart, "I shall not be shaken;
For generations I shall have no trouble."
7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression.
Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
8 He lies in wait near the villages.
From ambushes, he murders the innocent.
His eyes are secretly set against the helpless.
9 He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless.
He catches the helpless, when he draws him in his net.
10 The helpless are crushed, they collapse,
They fall under his strength.
11 He says in his heart, "God has forgotten.
He hides his face. He will never see it."
12 Arise, LORD! God, lift up your hand!
Don't forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked condemn God,
And say in his heart, "God won't call me into account?"
14 But you do see trouble and grief;
You consider it to take it into your hand.
You help the victim and the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked.
As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.
16 The LORD is King forever and ever!
The nations will perish out of his land.
17 LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble.
You will prepare their heart.
You will cause your ear to hear,
18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,
That man who is of the eretz may terrify no more.
PSALMS: 40
1 I waited patiently for the LORD.
He turned to me, and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay.
He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God.
Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust,
And doesn't respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, LORD, my God, are the wonderful works which you have done,
And your thoughts which are toward us.
They can't be set in order to you;
If I would declare and speak of them,
they are more than can be numbered.
6 Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire.
My ears have you opened:
Burnt offering and sin offering have you not required.
7 Then I said, "Behold, I have come.
It is written about me in the book in the scroll.
8 I delight to do your will, my God.
Yes, your law is within my heart."
9 I have proclaimed glad news of righteousness in the great assembly.
Behold, I will not seal my lips, LORD, you know.
10 I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart.
I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation.
I have not concealed your loving kindness and your truth from the great assembly.
11 Don't withhold your tender mercies from me, LORD.
Let your loving kindness and your truth continually preserve me.
12 For innumerable evils have surrounded me.
My iniquities have overtaken me,
so that I am not able to look up.
They are more than the hairs of my head.
My heart has failed me.
13 Be pleased, LORD, to deliver me.
Hurry to help me, LORD.
14 Let them be put to shame and confounded together
who seek after my soul to destroy it.
Let them be turned backward and
brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt.
15 Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, "Aha! Aha!"
16 Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.
Let such as love your salvation say continually,
"Let the LORD be exalted!"
17 But I am poor and needy;
May the Lord think about me.
You are my help and my deliverer.
Don't delay, my God.
PSALMS: 70
1 Hurry, God, to deliver me.
Come quickly to help me, LORD.
2 Let them be put to shame and confounded who seek my soul.
Let those who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.
3 Let them be turned because of their shame
Who say, "Aha! Aha!"
4 Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.
Let those who love your yeshu`ah continually say,
"Let God be exalted!"
5 But I am poor and needy.
Come to me quickly, God.
You are my help and my deliverer,
LORD, don't delay.
PSALMS: 100
1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all you lands!
2 Serve the LORD with gladness.
Come before his presence with singing.
3 Know that the LORD, he is God.
It is he who has made us, and we are his.
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
Into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good.
His loving kindness endures forever,
His faithfulness to all generations.
PSALMS: 130
1 Out of the depths I have cried to you, LORD.
2 Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions.
3 If you, the LORD, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you,
Therefore you are feared.
5 I wait for the LORD.
My soul waits.
I hope in his word.
6 My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning;
More than watchmen for the morning.
7 Yisra'el, hope in the LORD,
For with the LORD there is loving kindness.
With him is abundant redemption.
8 He will redeem Yisra'el from all their sins.
PROVERBS: 10
1 The proverbs of Shlomo.
A wise son makes a glad father;
But a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing,
But righteousness delivers from death.
3 The LORD will not allow the soul of the righteous to go hungry,
But he thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
4 He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand,
But the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son,
But he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the righteous is blessed,
But the name of the wicked will rot.
8 The wise in heart accept mitzvot,
But a chattering fool will fall.
9 He who walks blamelessly walks surely,
But he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10 One winking with the eye causes sorrow,
But a chattering fool will fall.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a spring of life,
But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all wrongs.
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment,
But a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge,
But the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city.
The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labor of the righteous leads to life.
The increase of the wicked leads to sin.
17 He is in the way of life who heeds correction,
But he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.
18 He who hides hatred has lying lips.
He who utters a slander is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience,
But he who restrains his lips does wisely.
20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver.
The heart of the wicked is of little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many,
But the foolish die for lack of understanding.
22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth,
And he adds no trouble to it.
23 It is a fool's pleasure to do wickedness,
But wisdom is a man of understanding's pleasure.
24 What the wicked fear, will overtake them,
But the desire of the righteous will be granted.
25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more;
But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes,
So is the sluggard to those who send him.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs days,
But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy,
But the hope of the wicked will perish.
29 The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright,
But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous will never be removed,
But the wicked will not dwell in the land.
31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom,
But the perverse tongue will be cut off.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
But the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
OLD TESTAMENT: 2 CHRONICLES 26:1 - 28: 27
26:1 All the people of Yehudah took `Uzziyah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amatzyah. 2 He built Elot, and restored it to Yehudah, after that the king slept with his fathers. 3 Sixteen years old was `Uzziyah when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty-two years in Yerushalayim: and his mother's name was Yekholyah, of Yerushalayim. 4 He did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father Amatzyah had done. 5 He set himself to seek God in the days of Zekharyah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper. 6 He went forth and warred against the Pelishtim, and broke down the wall of Gat, and the wall of Yavneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in [the country of] Ashdod, and among the Pelishtim. 7 God helped him against the Pelishtim, and against the `Aravi'im who lived in Gur-Ba`al, and the Me`unim. 8 The `Ammonim gave tribute to `Uzziyah: and his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Mitzrayim; for he grew exceeding strong. 9 Moreover `Uzziyah built towers in Yerushalayim at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning [of the wall], and fortified them. 10 He built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much cattle; in the lowland also, and in the plain: [and he had] farmers and vineyard keepers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields; for he loved farming. 11 Moreover `Uzziyah had an army of fighting men, who went out to war by bands, according to the number of their reckoning made by Ye`i'el the Sofer and Ma`aseyah the officer, under the hand of Hananyah, one of the king's captains. 12 The whole number of the heads of fathers' [houses], even the mighty men of valor, was two thousand and six hundred. 13 Under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, who made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. 14 `Uzziyah prepared for them, even for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging. 15 He made in Yerushalayim engines, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and on the battlements, with which to shoot arrows and great stones. His name spread far abroad; for he was marvelously helped, until he was strong. 16 But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against the LORD his God; for he went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
17 `Azaryah the Kohen went in after him, and with him eighty Kohanim of the LORD, who were valiant men: 18 and they withstood `Uzziyah the king, and said to him, It pertains not to you, `Uzziyah, to burn incense to the LORD, but to the Kohanim the sons of Aharon, who are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for you have trespassed; neither shall it be for your honor from the LORD God. 19 Then `Uzziyah was angry; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense; and while he was angry with the Kohanim, the leprosy broke forth in his forehead before the Kohanim in the house of the LORD, beside the altar of incense. 20 `Azaryah the chief Kohen, and all the Kohanim, looked on him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out quickly from there; yes, himself hurried also to go out, because the LORD had struck him. 21 `Uzziyah the king was a leper to the day of his death, and lived in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of the LORD: and Yotam his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land. 22 Now the rest of the acts of `Uzziyah, first and last, did Yesha`yahu the prophet, the son of Amotz, write. 23 So `Uzziyah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Yotam his son reigned in his place.
27:1 Yotam was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Yerushalayim: and his mother's name was Yerusha the daughter of Tzadok. 2 He did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that his father `Uzziyah had done: however he didn't enter into the temple of the LORD. The people did yet corruptly. 3 He built the upper gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of `Ofel he built much. 4 Moreover he built cities in the hill-country of Yehudah, and in the forests he built castles and towers. 5 He fought also with the king of the children of `Ammon, and prevailed against them. The children of `Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of `Ammon render to him, in the second year also, and in the third. 6 So Yotam became mighty, because he ordered his ways before the LORD his God. 7 Now the rest of the acts of Yotam, and all his wars, and his ways, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Yisra'el and Yehudah. 8 He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Yerushalayim. 9 Yotam slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Achaz his son reigned in his place.
28:1 Achaz was twenty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned sixteen years in Yerushalayim: and he didn't do that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, like David his father; 2 but he walked in the ways of the kings of Yisra'el, and made also molten images for the Ba`alim. 3 Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD cast out before the children of Yisra'el. 4 He sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places, and on the hills, and under every green tree. 5 Therefore the LORD his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Aram; and they struck him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Dammesek. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Yisra'el, who struck him with a great slaughter. 6 For Pekach the son of Remalyahu killed in Yehudah one hundred twenty thousand in one day, all of them valiant men; because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers. 7 Zikhri, a mighty man of Efrayim, killed Ma`aseyah the king's son, and `Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkana who was next to the king. 8 The children of Yisra'el carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Shomron. 9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was `Oded: and he went out to meet the host that came to Shomron, and said to them, Behold, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was angry with Yehudah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven. 10 Now you purpose to keep under the children of Yehudah and Yerushalayim for bondservants and bondmaids to you: [but] aren't there even with you trespasses of your own against the LORD your God? 11 Now hear me therefore, and send back the captives, that you have taken captive of your brothers; for the fierce wrath of the LORD is on you. 12 Then certain of the heads of the children of Efrayim, `Azaryah the son of Yochanan, Berekhyah the son of Meshillemot, and Yechizkiyahu the son of Shallum, and `Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who came from the war, 13 and said to them, You shall not bring in the captives here: for you purpose that which will bring on us a trespass against the LORD, to add to our sins and to our trespass; for our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Yisra'el. 14 So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the assembly. 15 The men who have been mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all who were naked among them, and arrayed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Yericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers: then they returned to Shomron. 16 At that time did king Achaz send to the kings of Ashshur to help him.
17 For again the Edom had come and struck Yehudah, and carried away captives. 18 The Pelishtim also had invaded the cities of the lowland, and of the South of Yehudah, and had taken Beit-Shemesh, and Ayalon, and Kederot, and Sokho with the towns of it, and Timnah with the towns of it, Gimzo also and the towns of it: and they lived there. 19 For the LORD brought Yehudah low because of Achaz king of Yisra'el; for he had dealt wantonly in Yehudah, and trespassed severely against the LORD. 20 Tilgat-Pilne'eser king of Ashshur came to him, and distressed him, but didn't strengthen him. 21 For Achaz took away a portion out of the house of the LORD, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Ashshur: but it didn't help him. 22 In the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD, this same king Achaz. 23 For he sacrificed to the gods of Dammesek, which struck him; and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Aram helped them, [therefore] will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Yisra'el. 24 Achaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD; and he made him altars in every corner of Yerushalayim. 25 In every city of Yehudah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked to anger the LORD, the God of his fathers.26 Now the rest of his acts, and all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Yehudah and Yisra'el. 27 Achaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Yerushalayim; for they didn't bring him into the tombs of the kings of Yisra'el: and Hizkiyahu his son reigned in his place.
NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 13:1 - 14
13:1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who be are ordained by God.
2 Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same,
4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn't bear the sword in vain; for he is a minister of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.
5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience' sake.
6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are ministers of God's service, attending continually on this very thing.
7 Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
9 For the mitzvot, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet," and whatever other mitzvot there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
10 Love doesn't harm his neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.
11 This, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awake out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.
12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let's therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let's put on the armor of light.
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
14 But put on the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
