oracle is within my heart

the LORD brought back the captives to A

Our
mouths were filled with laughter,
our
tongues with songs of joy.

it was said among the nations,
"The
LORD has done great things for them."

The
LORD has done great things for us,
and
we are filled with joy.

Restore
our fortunes, C

like
streams in the Negev.

Those
who sow in tears
will
reap with songs of joy.

He
who goes out weeping,
carrying
seed to sow,

1
My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor,
if
you have struck hands in pledge for another,
2
if
you have been trapped by what you said,
ensnared
by the words of your mouth,
3
then
do this, my son, to free yourself,
since
you have fallen into your neighbor's hands:
Go
and humble yourself;
press
your plea with your neighbor!
4
Allow
no sleep to your eyes,
no
slumber to your eyelids.
5
Free
yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
like
a bird from the snare of the fowler.
6
Go
to the ant, you sluggard;
consider
its ways and be wise!
7
It
has no commander,
no
overseer or ruler,
8
yet
it stores its provisions in summer
and
gathers its food at harvest.
9
How
long will you lie there, you sluggard?
When
will you get up from your sleep?

A
little sleep, a little slumber,
a
little folding of the hands to rest--

poverty will come on you like a bandit

scoundrel and villain,
who
goes about with a corrupt mouth,

who winks with his eye,
signals

Therefore
disaster will overtake him in an instant; 8

will suddenly be destroyed--without remedy.

There
are six things the LORD hates,
seven
that are detestable to him:

haughty
eyes,
a
lying tongue,
hands
that shed innocent blood,
18
a
heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet
that are quick to rush into evil,
19
a
false witness who pours out lies
and
a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
20
My
son, keep your father's commands
and
do not forsake your mother's teaching.
21
Bind
them upon your heart forever;
fasten
them around your neck.
22
When
you walk, they will guide you;
when
you sleep, they will watch over you;
when
you awake, they will speak to you.
23
For
these commands are a lamp,
this
teaching is a light,
and
the corrections of discipline
are
the way to life,
24
keeping
you from the immoral woman,
from
the smooth tongue of the wayward wife.
25
Do
not lust in your heart after her beauty
or
let her captivate you with her eyes,
26
for
the prostitute reduces you to a loaf of bread,
and
the adulteress preys upon your very life.
27
Can
a man scoop fire into his lap
without
his clothes being burned?
28
Can
a man walk on hot coals
without
his feet being scorched?
29
So
is he who sleeps with another man's wife; 9
no
one who touches her will go unpunished.
30
Men
do not despise a thief if he steals
to
satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
31
Yet
if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold,
though
it costs him all the wealth of his house.
32
But
a man who commits adultery lacks judgment;
whoever
does so destroys himself.
33
Blows
and disgrace are his lot,
and
his shame will never be wiped away;
34
for
jealousy arouses a husband's fury,
and
he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35
He
will not accept any compensation;
he
will refuse the bribe, however great it is. 10

Jehoshaphat
his son succeeded him as king and strengthened himself against
Israel.
2
He
stationed troops in all the fortified cities of Judah and put
garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa
had captured.
3
The
LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the
ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals 4
but
sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than
the practices of Israel. 5
The
LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought
gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor. 6
His
heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed
the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah.
7
In
the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah,
Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah. 8
With
them were certain Levites--Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel,
Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah--and the
priests Elishama and Jehoram. 9
They
taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the
LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the
people.
10
The
fear of the LORD fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding
Judah, so that they did not make war with Jehoshaphat. 11
Some
Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the
Arabs brought him flocks: seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven
thousand seven hundred goats.
12
Jehoshaphat
became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in
Judah
13
and
had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced
fighting men in Jerusalem. 14
Their

enrollment by families was as follows:
From
Judah, commanders of units of 1,000:
Adnah
the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;
15
next,
Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;
16
next,
Amasiah son of Zicri, who volunteered himself for the service of the
LORD, with 200,000.
17
From
Benjamin:
Eliada,
a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;
18
next,
Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle.
19
These
were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the
fortified cities throughout Judah.

Now
Jehoshaphat had great wealth and honor, and he allied himself with
Ahab by marriage. 2
Some
years later he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered
many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him and urged him
to attack Ramoth Gilead.
3
Ahab
king of Israel asked Jehoshaphat king of Judah, "Will you go
with me against Ramoth Gilead?"
Jehoshaphat
replied, "I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will
join you in the war." 4
But
Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, "First seek the
counsel of the LORD."
5
So
the king of Israel brought together the prophets--four hundred
men--and asked them, "Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead,
or shall I refrain?" 12
"Go," they answered, "for God will give it into the
king's hand."
6
But
Jehoshaphat asked, "Is there not a prophet of the LORD here whom
we can inquire of?"
7
The
king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man
through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he
never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is
Micaiah son of Imlah."
"The
king should not say that," Jehoshaphat replied.
8
So
the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, "Bring
Micaiah son of Imlah at once."
9
Dressed
in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of
Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the
entrance to the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying
before them. 10
Now
Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns, and he declared, "This
is what the LORD says:
`With
these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.'
"
11
All
the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. "Attack
Ramoth Gilead and be victorious," they said, "for the LORD
will give it into the king's hand."
12
The
messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, "Look,
as one man the other prophets are predicting success for the king.
Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably."
13
But
Micaiah said, "As
surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what my God says."
13
14
When
he arrived, the king asked him, "Micaiah, shall we go to war
against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?"
"Attack
and be victorious,"
he answered, "for
they will be given into your hand."
15
The
king said to him, "How many times must I make you swear to tell
me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"
16
Then
Micaiah answered, "I
saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd,
and the LORD said, `These people have no master. Let each one go home
in peace.'
"
17
The
king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Didn't I tell you that he
never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?"
18
Micaiah
continued, "Therefore
hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with
all the host of heaven standing on his right and on his left. 19
And the LORD said, `Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into
attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?'
"One
suggested this, and another that. 20
Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, `I
will entice him.'
"`By
what means?' the LORD asked.
21"`I
will go and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,' he
said.
"`You
will succeed in enticing him,' said the LORD. `Go and do it.'
22
"So
now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of these prophets
of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you."
23
Then
Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face.
"Which way did the spirit from A
the LORD go when he 14
went from me to speak to you?" he asked.

As
he says in Hosea:
"I
will call them `my people' who are not my people;
and
I will call her `my loved one' who is not my loved one,"
I
26
and,
"It
will happen that in the very place where it was said to them,
`You
are not my people,'
they
will be called `sons of the living God.'"

Isaiah
cries out concerning Israel:
"Though
the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea,
only
the remnant will be saved.
28
For
the Lord will carry out
his
sentence on earth with speed and finality." K
29
It
is just as Isaiah said previously:
"Unless
the Lord Almighty
had
left us descendants,
we
would have become like Sodom,
we
would have been like Gomorrah." L
30
What
then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue
righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; 31
but
Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. 32
Why
not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works.
They stumbled over the "stumbling stone." 33
As
it is written: 16
"See,
I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble
and
a rock that makes them fall,
and
the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

1
Brothers,
my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they
may be saved. 2
For
I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their
zeal is not based on knowledge. 3
Since
they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to
establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4
Christ
is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone
who believes.
5
Moses
describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The
man who does these things will live by them."

6
But
the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do
not say in your heart, `Who will ascend into heaven?'
B
"(that
is, to bring Christ down)
7
"or
`Who will descend into the deep?
'C
"(that
is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
8
But
what does it say?
"The
word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,"
D
that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9
That
if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus
is Lord,"
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will
be saved.
10
For
it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11
As
the Scripture says, "Anyone
who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

For
there is no difference between Jew and 17
Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call
on him, 13
for,
"Everyone
who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
