asked you for life, and you gave it to him--
length
of days, for ever and ever.

mercy on me, O God,

is a decree for Israel,

established it as a statute for Joseph
when

Praise
A
the LORD. B
I
will extol the LORD with all my heart
in
the council of the upright and in the assembly.

Great
are the works of the LORD;
they
are pondered by all who delight in them.

Glorious
and majestic are his deeds,
and
his righteousness endures forever.

He
has caused his wonders to be remembered;
the
LORD is gracious and compassionate.
5
He
provides food for those who fear him;
he
remembers his covenant forever.

He
has shown his people the power of his works,

them the lands of other nations.

LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me.
Hear
my voice when I call to you.

my prayer be set before you like incense;

the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

Set
a guard over my mouth, O LORD;
keep
watch over the door of my lips.
4
Let
not my heart be drawn to what is evil,
to
take part in wicked deeds
with
men who are evildoers;
let
me not eat of their delicacies.
5
Let
a righteous man A
strike me--it is a kindness;
let
him rebuke me--it is oil on my head.
My
head will not refuse it.
Yet
my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;

rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs,

the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD;
he
directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

All
a man's ways seem right to him,
but
the LORD weighs the heart.
3
To
do what is right and just
is
more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4
Haughty
eyes and a proud heart,
the
lamp of the wicked, are sin!
5
The
plans of the diligent lead to profit
as
surely as haste leads to poverty.
6
A
fortune made by a lying tongue
is
a fleeting vapor and a deadly snare. A
7
The
violence of the wicked will drag them away,
for
they refuse to do what is right.
8
The
way of the guilty is devious,
but
the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9
Better
to live on a corner of the roof
than
share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
10
The
wicked man craves evil;
his
neighbor gets no mercy from him. 9

When
a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom;

a wise man is instructed, he gets knowledge.

takes note of the house of the wicked
and
brings the wicked to ruin.

a foolish man devours all he has.

He
who pursues righteousness and love

wise man attacks the city of the mighty

pulls down the stronghold in which they trust.

who guards his mouth and his tongue

himself from calamity.

The
proud and arrogant man--"Mocker" is his name;
he
behaves with overweening pride.

The
sluggard's craving will be the death of him,

his hands refuse to work.

day long he craves for more,

the righteous give without sparing.

The
sacrifice of the wicked is detestable--
how
much more so when brought with evil intent!

A
false witness will perish,

wicked man puts up a bold front,

an upright man gives thought to his ways.

There
is no wisdom, no insight, no plan
that
can succeed against the LORD.

The
horse is made ready for the day of battle,

TESTAMENT:
EZRA 10:1 - 44
10
1
While
Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down
before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites--men, women and
children--gathered around him. They too wept bitterly. 2
Then
Shecaniah son of Jehiel, one of the descendants of Elam, said to
Ezra, "We have been unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign
women from the peoples around us. But in spite of this, there is
still hope for Israel. 3
Now
let us make a covenant before our God to send away all these women
and their children, in accordance with the counsel of my lord and of
those who fear the commands of our God. Let it be done according to
the Law. 4
Rise
up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take
courage and do it."
5
So
Ezra rose up and put the leading priests and Levites and all Israel
under oath to do what had been suggested. And they took the oath. 6
Then
Ezra withdrew from before the house of God and went to the room of
Jehohanan son of Eliashib. While he was there, he ate no food and
drank no water, because he continued to mourn over the unfaithfulness
of the exiles.
7
A
proclamation was then issued throughout Judah and Jerusalem for all
the exiles to assemble in Jerusalem. 8
Anyone
who failed to appear within three days would forfeit all his
property, in accordance with the decision of the officials and
elders, and would himself be expelled from the assembly of the
exiles.
9
Within
the three days, all the men of Judah and Benjamin had gathered in
Jerusalem. And on the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the
people were sitting in the square before the house of God, greatly
distressed by the occasion and because of the rain.
10
Then
Ezra the priest stood up and said to them, "You have been
unfaithful; you have married foreign women, adding to Israel's guilt.
11
Now
make confession to the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do his
will. Separate yourselves from the peoples around you and from your
foreign wives."
12
The
whole assembly responded with a loud voice: "You are right! We
must do as you say. 13
But
there are many people here and it is the rainy season; so we cannot
stand outside. Besides, this matter cannot be taken care of in a day
or two, because we have sinned greatly in this thing. 14
Let
our officials act for the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our
towns who has married a foreign woman come at a set time, along with
the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God
in this matter is turned away from us." 15
Only
Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by
Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, opposed this.
16
So
the exiles did as was proposed. Ezra the priest selected men who were
family heads, one from each family division, and all of them
designated by name. On the first day of the tenth month they sat down
to investigate the cases, 17
and
by the first day of the first month they finished dealing with all
the men who had married foreign women. 12
18
Among
the descendants of the priests, the following had married foreign
women:
From
the descendants of Jeshua son of Jozadak, and his brothers: Maaseiah,
Eliezer, Jarib and Gedaliah. 19
(They
all gave their hands in pledge to put away their wives, and for their
guilt they each presented a ram from the flock as a guilt offering.)
20
From
the descendants of Immer:
Hanani
and Zebadiah.
21
From
the descendants of Harim:
Maaseiah,
Elijah, Shemaiah, Jehiel and Uzziah.
22
From
the descendants of Pashhur:
Elioenai,
Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad and Elasah.
23
Among
the Levites:
Jozabad,
Shimei, Kelaiah (that is, Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah and Eliezer.
24
From
the singers:

From
the gatekeepers:

Telem and Uri.
25
And
among the other Israelites:

the descendants of Parosh:

Izziah, Malkijah, Mijamin, Eleazar, Malkijah and Benaiah.

If
any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the
ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? 2
Do
you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to
judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
3
Do
you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of
this life!
4
Therefore,
if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men
of little account in the church! A
5
I
say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you
wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6
But
instead, one brother goes to law against another--and this in front
of unbelievers!
7
The
very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been
completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not
rather be cheated? 8
Instead,
you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers.
9
Do
you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do
not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor
adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10
nor
thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers
will inherit the kingdom of God. 11
And
that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were
sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ
and by the Spirit of our God.
12
"Everything
is permissible for me"--but
not everything is beneficial. "Everything
is permissible for me"--but
I will not be mastered by anything. 13
"Food
for the stomach and the stomach for food"--but
God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual
immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14
By
his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us
also. 15
Do
you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I
then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute?
Never! 16
Do
you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with
her in body? For it is said, "The
two will become one flesh."

17
But
he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18
Flee
from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his
body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19
Do
you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in
you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20
you
were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 15
