1 A psalm of David,
when he fled from Avshalom his son:
ADONAI, how many enemies I have!
How countless are those attacking me;
2 how countless those who say of me,
"There is no salvation for him in God."
(Selah)
3 But you, ADONAI, are a shield for me;
you are my glory, you lift my head high.
4 With my voice I call out to ADONAI,
and he answers me from his holy hill.
(Selah)
5 I lie down and sleep, then wake up again,
because ADONAI sustains me.
6 I am not afraid of the tens of thousands
set against me on every side.
7 Rise up, ADONAI!
Save me, my God!
For you slap all my enemies in the face,
you smash the teeth of the wicked.
8 Victory comes from ADONAI;
may your blessing rest on your people.

PSALMS: 33
1 Rejoice in ADONAI, you righteous!
Praise is well-suited to the upright.
2 Give thanks to ADONAI with the lyre,
sing praises to him with a ten-stringed harp.
3 Sing to him a new song,
make music at your best among shouts of joy.
4 For the word of ADONAI is true,
and all his work is trustworthy.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the grace of ADONAI.
6 By the word of ADONAI the heavens were made,
and their whole host by a breath from his mouth.
7 He collects the sea waters together in a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear ADONAI!
Let all living in the world stand in awe of him.
9 For he spoke, and there it was;
he commanded, and there it stood.
10 ADONAI brings to nothing the plans of nations,
he foils the plans of the peoples.
11 But the counsel of ADONAI stands forever,
his heart's plans are for all generations.
12 How blessed is the nation whose God is ADONAI,
the people he chose as his heritage!
13 ADONAI looks out from heaven;
he sees every human being;
14 from the place where he lives he
watches everyone living on earth,
15 he who fashioned the hearts of them
all and understands all they do.
16 A king is not saved by the size of his army,
a strong man not delivered by his great strength.
17 To rely on a horse for safety is vain,
nor does its great power assure escape.
18 But ADONAI's eyes watch over those who fear him,
over those who wait for his grace
19 to rescue them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20 We are waiting for ADONAI;
he is our help and shield.
21 For in him our hearts rejoice,
because we trust in his holy name.
22 May your mercy, ADONAI, be over us,
because we put our hope in you.
PSALMS: 63
1 A psalm of David,
when he was in the desert of Y'hudah:
O God, you are my God;
I will seek you eagerly.
My heart thirsts for you,
my body longs for you in a land parched and exhausted,
where no water can be found.
2 I used to contemplate you in the sanctuary,
seeing your power and glory;
3 for your grace is better than life.
My lips will worship you.
4 Yes, I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I am as satisfied as with rich food;
my mouth praises you with joy on my lips
6 when I remember you on my bed
and meditate on you in the night watches.
7 For you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice;
8 my heart clings to you;
your right hand supports me.
9 But those who seek to destroy my life -may
they go to the lowest parts of the earth.
10 May they be given over to the power of the sword;
may they become prey for jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God.
Everyone who swears by him will exult,
for the mouths of liars will be silenced.
PSALMS: 93
1 ADONAI is king, robed in majesty;
ADONAI is robed, girded with strength;
The world is well established;
it cannot be moved.
2 Your throne was established long ago;
you have existed forever.
3 ADONAI, the deep is raising up, the deep is raising up
its voice, the deep is raising its crashing waves.
4 More than the sound of rushing waters or the mighty breakers of the sea,
ADONAI on high is mighty.
5 Your instructions are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
ADONAI, for all time to come.
PSALMS: 123
1 A song of ascents:
I raise my eyes to you, whose throne is in heaven.
2 As a servant looks to the hand of his master,
or a slave-girl to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes turn to ADONAI our God,
until he has mercy on us.
3 Have mercy on us, ADONAI, have mercy;
for we have had our fill of contempt,
4 more than our fill of scorn from the complacent
and contempt from the arrogant.
PROVERBS: 3
1 My son, don't forget my teaching,
keep my commands in your heart;
2 for they will add to you many days,
years of life and peace.
3 Do not let grace and truth leave you -bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and esteem
in the sight of God and of people.
5 Trust in ADONAI with all your heart;
do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him;
then he will level your paths.
7 Don't be conceited about your own wisdom;
but fear ADONAI, and turn from evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and give strength to your bones.
9 Honor ADONAI with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your income.
10 Then your granaries will be filled
and your vats overflow with new wine.
11 My son, don't despise ADONAI's discipline
or resent his reproof;
12 for ADONAI corrects those he loves
like a father who delights in his son.
13 Happy the person who finds wisdom,
the person who acquires understanding;
14 for her profit exceeds that of silver,
gaining her is better than gold,
15 she is more precious than pearls -nothing
you want can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand,
riches and honor in her left.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who grasp her;
whoever holds fast to her will be made happy.
19 ADONAI by wisdom founded the earth,
by understanding he established the heavens,
20 by his knowledge the deep [springs] burst open
and the dew condenses from the sky.
21 My son, don't let these slip from your sight;
preserve common sense and discretion;
22 they will be life for your being
and grace for your neck.
23 Then you will walk your way securely,
without hurting your foot.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Don't be afraid of sudden terror or destruction caused by the wicked,
when it comes;
26 for you can rely on ADONAI;
he will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.
27 Don't withhold good from someone entitled to it when
you have in hand the power to do it.
28 Don't tell your neighbor, "Go away!
Come another time;
I'll give it to you tomorrow,"
when you have it now.
29 Don't plan harm against your neighbor who lives beside you trustingly.
30 Don't quarrel with someone for no reason, if he has done you no harm.
31 Don't envy a man of violence, don't choose any of his ways;
32 for the perverse is an abomination to ADONAI,
but he shares his secret counsel with the upright.
33 ADONAI's curse is in the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.
34 The scornful he scorns,
but gives grace to the humble.
35 The wise win honor,
but fools win shame.
OLD TESTAMENT: GENESIS 46:1 - 47:31
46:1 Yisra'el took his journey with all that he had, and came to Be'er-Sheva, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Yitzchak. 2 God spoke to Yisra'el in the visions of the night, and said, "Ya`akov, Ya`akov!" He said, "Here I am." 3 He said, "I am God, the God of your father. Don't be afraid to go down into Mitzrayim; for there I will make of you a great nation. 4 I will go down with you into Mitzrayim. I will also surely bring you up again. Yosef will close your eyes." 5 Ya`akov rose up from Be'er-Sheva, and the sons of Yisra'el carried Ya`akov, their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Par`oh had sent to carry him. 6 They took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Kana`an, and came into Mitzrayim - Ya`akov, and all his seed with him, 7 his sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his seed brought he with him into Mitzrayim. 8 These are the names of the children of Yisra'el, who came into Mitzrayim, Ya`akov and his sons: Re'uven, Ya`akov's firstborn. 9 The sons of Re'uven: Hanokh, Pallu, Hetzron, and Karmi. 10 The sons of Shim`on: Yemu'el, Yamin, Ohad, Yakhin, Tzochar, and Sha'ul the son of a Kana`ani woman.11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kehat, and Merari.12 The sons of Yehudah: `Er, Onan, Shelach, Peretz, and Zerach; but `Er and Onan died in the land of Kana`an. The sons of Peretz were Hetzron and Hamul. 13 The sons of Yissakhar: Tola, Puvah, Yov, and Shimron. 14 The sons of Zevulun: Sered, Elon, and Yachle'el. 15 These are the sons of Le'ah, whom she bore to Ya`akov in Paddan-Aram, with his daughter Dinah. All the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three. 16 The sons of Gad: Tzifyon, Haggi, Shuni, Etzbon, `Eri, Arodi, and Ar'eli. 17 The sons of Asher: Yimna, Yishvah, Yishvi, Beri`ah, and Serach their sister. The sons of Beri`ah: Hever and Malki'el. 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Lavan gave to Le'ah, his daughter, and these she bore to Ya`akov, even sixteen souls. 19 The sons of Rachel, Ya`akov's wife: Yosef and Binyamin. 20 To Yosef in the land of Mitzrayim were born Menashsheh and Efrayim, whom Asenat, the daughter of Potiphera, Kohen of On, bore to him. 21 The sons of Binyamin: Bela, Bekher, Ashbel, Gera, Na`aman, Echi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. 22 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Ya`akov: all the souls were fourteen. 23 The sons of Dan: Hushim. 24 The sons of Naftali: Yachtze'el, Guni, Yetzer, and Shillem. 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Lavan gave to Rachel, his daughter, and these she bore to Ya`akov: all the souls were seven. 26 All the souls who came with Ya`akov into Mitzrayim, who were his direct descendants, besides Ya`akov's sons' wives, all the souls were sixty-six. 27 The sons of Yosef, who were born to him in Mitzrayim, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Ya`akov, who came into Mitzrayim, were seventy. 28 He sent Yehudah before him to Yosef, to show the way before him to Goshen, and they came into the land of Goshen. 29 Yosef made ready his chariot, and went up to meet Yisra'el, his father, in Goshen. He presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while. 30 Yisra'el said to Yosef, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive." 31 Yosef said to his brothers, and to his father's house, "I will go up, and speak with Par`oh, and will tell him, 'My brothers, and my father's house, who were in the land of Kana`an, have come to me. 32 These men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle, and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.' 33 It will happen, when Par`oh summons you, and will say, 'What is your occupation?' 34 that you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and our fathers:' that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Mitzrim."
47:1 Then Yosef went in and told Par`oh, and said, "My father and my brothers, with their flocks, their herds, and all that they own, have come out of the land of Kana`an; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen." 2 From among his brothers he took five men, and presented them to Par`oh. 3 Par`oh said to his brothers, "What is your occupation?" They said to Par`oh, "Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers." 4 They said to Par`oh, "We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants' flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Kana`an. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen." 5 Par`oh spoke to Yosef, saying, "Your father and your brothers have come to you. 6 The land of Mitzrayim is before you. Make your father and your brothers dwell in the best of the land. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen. If you know any able men among them, then put them in charge of my cattle." 7 Yosef brought in Ya`akov, his father, and set him before Par`oh, and Ya`akov blessed Par`oh. 8 Par`oh said to Ya`akov, "How many are the days of the years of your life?" 9 Ya`akov said to Par`oh, "The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage." 10 Ya`akov blessed Par`oh, and went out from the presence of Par`oh. 11 Yosef placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Mitzrayim, in the best of the land, in the land of Ra`meses, as Par`oh had commanded. 12 Yosef nourished his father, his brothers, and all of his father's household, with bread, according to their families. 13 There was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Mitzrayim and the land of Kana`an fainted by reason of the famine. 14 Yosef gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Mitzrayim, and in the land of Kana`an, for the grain which they bought: and Yosef brought the money into Par`oh's house. 15 When the money was all spent in the land of Mitzrayim, and in the land of Kana`an, all the Mitzrim came to Yosef, and said, "Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For our money fails."16 Yosef said, "Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fails." 17 They brought their cattle to Yosef, and Yosef gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the donkeys: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their cattle for that year. 18 When that year was ended, they came to him the second year, and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord how our money is all spent, and the herds of cattle are my lord's. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands. 19 Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Par`oh. Give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land won't be desolate." 20 So Yosef bought all the land of Mitzrayim for Par`oh, for the Mitzrim sold every man his field, because the famine was severe on them, and the land became Par`oh's. 21 As for the people, he moved them to the cities from one end of the border of Mitzrayim even to the other end of it. 22 Only he didn't buy the land of the Kohanim, for the Kohanim had a portion from Par`oh, and ate their portion which Par`oh gave them. That is why they didn't sell their land. 23 Then Yosef said to the people, "Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Par`oh. Behold, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. 24 It will happen at the harvests, that you shall give a fifth to Par`oh, and four parts will be your own, for seed of the field, for your food, for them of your households, and for food for your little ones." 25 They said, "You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Par`oh's servants." 26 Yosef made it a statute concerning the land of Mitzrayim to this day, that Par`oh should have the fifth. Only the land of the Kohanim alone didn't become Par`oh's. 27 Yisra'el lived in the land of Mitzrayim, in the land of Goshen; and they got themselves possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly. 28 Ya`akov lived in the land of Mitzrayim seventeen years. So the days of Ya`akov, the years of his life, were one hundred forty-seven years. 29 The time drew near that Yisra'el must die, and he called his son Yosef, and said to him, "If now I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please don't bury me in Mitzrayim, 30 but when I sleep with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Mitzrayim, and bury me in their burying place." He said, "I will do as you have said."31 He said, "Swear to me," and he swore to him. Yisra'el bowed himself on the bed's head.
NEW TESTAMENT: MATTHEW 15:1 - 28
15:1 Then Perushim and Sofrim come to Yeshua from Yerushalayim, saying,
2 "Why do your talmidim disobey the tradition of the Zakenim? For they don't wash their hands when they eat bread."
3He answered them, "Why do you also disobey the mitzvah of God because of your tradition?
4 For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.'
5 But you say, 'Whoever may tell his father or his mother, "Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,"
6 he will not honor his father or mother.' You have made the mitzvah of God void because of your tradition.
7 You hypocrites! Well did Yesha`yahu prophesy of you, saying,
8 'These people draw near to me with their mouth, And honor me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.
9 But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as doctrine rules made by men.'"
10 He called the multitude to himself, and said to them, "Hear, and understand.
11 That which enters into the mouth doesn't defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."
12 Then the talmidim came, and said to him, "Do you know that the Perushim were offended, when they heard this saying?"
13 But he answered, "Every plant which my heavenly Father didn't plant will be uprooted.
14 Let them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit."
15 Kefa answered him, "Explain the parable to us."
16 So Yeshua said, "Do you also still not understand?
17 Don't you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body?
18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.
20 These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn't defile the man."
21 Yeshua went out from there, and withdrew into the parts of Tzor and Tzidon.
22 Behold, a Kana`ani woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely demonized!"
23 But he answered her not a word. His talmidim came and begged him, saying, "Send her away; for she cries after us."
24 But he answered, "I wasn't sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Yisra'el."
25 But she came and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, help me."
26 But he answered, "It is not appropriate to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."
27 But she said, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."
28 Then Yeshua answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire." And her daughter was healed from that hour.
