PSALMS
Psalms 4
1 Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness. Give me relief from my distress. Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.
2 You sons of men, how long shall my glory be turned into dishonor? Will you love vanity, and seek after falsehood? Selah.
3 But know that the LORD has set apart for himself him who is godly: The LORD will hear when I call to him.
4 Stand in awe, and don't sin. Search your own heart on your bed, and be still. Selah.
5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness. Put your trust in the LORD.
6 Many say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, let the light of your face shine on us.
7 You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and their new wine are increased.
8 In shalom I will both lay myself down and sleep, For you, the LORD alone, make me live in safety.
Psalms 34
1 I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall boast in the LORD. The humble shall hear of it, and be glad.
3 Oh magnify the LORD with me. Let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me, And delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked to him, and were radiant. Their faces shall never be covered with shame.
6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encamps round about those who fear him, And delivers them.
8 Oh taste and see that the LORD is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
9 Oh fear the LORD, you his holy ones, For there is no lack with those who fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger, But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.
11 Come, you children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Who is someone who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking lies.
14 Depart from evil, and do good. Seek shalom, and pursue it.
15 The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry.
16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, To cut off the memory of them from the eretz.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves those who have a crushed spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
20 He protects all of his bones. Not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall kill the wicked. Those who hate the righteous shall be condemned.
22 The LORD redeems the soul of his servants. None of those who take refuge in him shall be condemned.
Psalms 64
1 Hear my voice, God, in my complaint. Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, From the noisy crowd of the ones doing evil;
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, And aim their arrows, deadly words,
4 To shoot innocent men from ambushes. They shoot at him suddenly and fearlessly.
5 They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?"
6 They plot injustice, saying, "We have made a perfect plan!" Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.
7 But God will shoot at them. They will be suddenly struck down with an arrow.
8 Their own tongues shall ruin them. All who see them will shake their heads.
9 All mankind shall be afraid. They shall declare the work of God, And shall wisely ponder what he has done.
10 The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, And shall take refuge in him. All the upright in heart shall praise him!
Psalms 94
1 LORD, you God to whom vengeance belongs, You God to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth.
2 Rise up, you judge of the eretz. Pay back the proud what they deserve.
3 LORD, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph?
4 They pour out arrogant words. All the evil-doers boast.
5 They break your people in pieces, LORD, And afflict your heritage.
6 They kill the widow and the alien, And murder the fatherless.
7 They say, "The LORD will not see, Neither will Ya`akov's God consider."
8 Consider, you senseless among the people; You fools, when will you be wise?
9 He who implanted the ear, won't he hear? He who formed the eye, won't he see?
10 He who disciplines the nations, won't he punish? He who teaches man knows.
11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile.
12 Blessed is the man whom you discipline, the LORD, And teach out of your law;
13 That you may give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14 For the LORD won't reject his people, Neither will he forsake his inheritance.
15 For judgment will return to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it.
16 Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evil-doers?
17 Unless the LORD had been my help, My soul would have soon lived in silence.
18 When I said, "My foot is slipping!" Your lovingkindness, LORD, held me up.
19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me, Your comforts delight my soul.
20 Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, Which brings about mischief by statute?
21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, And condemn the innocent blood.
22 But the LORD has been my high tower, My God, the rock of my refuge.
23 He has brought on them their own iniquity, And will cut them off in their own wickedness. The LORD, our God, will cut them off.
Psalms 124
1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, Let Yisra'el now say,
2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, When men rose up against us;
3 Then they would have swallowed us up alive, When their wrath was kindled against us;
4 Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul;
5 Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.
6 Blessed be the LORD, Who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.
7 Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.
8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, Who made heaven and eretz.
PROVERBS
Proverbs 4
1 Listen, sons, to a father's instruction. Pay attention and know understanding;
2 For I give you sound learning. Don't forsake my law.
3 For I was a son to my father, Tender and an only child in the sight of my mother.
4 He taught me, and said to me: "Let your heart retain my words. Keep my mitzvot, and live.
5 Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don't forget, neither swerve from the words of my mouth.
6 Don't forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you.
7 Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding.
8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor, when you embrace her.
9 She will give to your head a garland of grace. A crown of splendor will she deliver to you."
10 Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many.
11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in paths of uprightness.
12 When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble.
13 Take firm hold of instruction. Don't let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.
14 Don't enter into the path of the wicked. Don't walk in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, and don't pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on.
16 For they don't sleep, unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light, That shines more and more until the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don't know what they stumble over.
20 My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings.
21 Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the midst of your heart.
22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to their whole body.
23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it is the wellspring of life.
24 Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.
27 Don't turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.
