PSALMS

Psalms 5

1 Give ear to my words, LORD. Consider my meditation.

2 Listen to the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; For to you do I pray.

3 LORD, in the morning shall you hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

4 For you are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness. Evil can't live with you.

5 The arrogant shall not stand in your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity.

6 You will destroy those who speak lies. The LORD abhors the blood-thirsty and deceitful man.

7 But as for me, in the abundance of your lovingkindness I will come into your house: I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.

8 Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth. Their inward part is destruction. Their throat is an open tomb. They flatter with their tongue.

10 Hold them guilty, God. Let them fall by their own counsels; Thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions, For they have rebelled against you.

11 But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice, Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them. Let them also who love your name be joyful in you.

12 For you will bless the righteous. LORD, you will surround him with favor as with a shield.

Psalms 35

1 Contend, LORD, with those who contend with me. Fight against those who fight against me.

2 Take hold of shield and buckler, And stand up for my help.

3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against those who pursue me. Tell my soul, "I am your yeshu`ah."

4 Let those who seek after my soul be put to shame and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.

5 Let them be as chaff before the wind, The angel of the LORD driving them on.

6 Let their way be dark and slippery, The angel of the LORD pursuing them.

7 For without cause have they hid their net in a pit for me. Without cause have they dug a pit for my soul.

8 Let destruction come on him unawares. Let his net that he has hidden catch himself. Into that destruction let him fall.

9 My soul shall be joyful in the LORD. It shall rejoice in his yeshu`ah.

10 All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like you, Who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him, Yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?"

11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up. They ask me about things that I don't know about.

12 They reward me evil for good, To the bereaving of my soul.

13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting. My prayer returned into my own bosom.

14 I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother.

15 But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I didn't know it. They tore at me, and didn't cease.

16 Like the profane mockers in feasts, They gnashed their teeth at me.

17 Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, My precious life from the lions.

18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly. I will praise you among many people.

19 Don't let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; Neither let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause.

20 For they don't speak shalom, But they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.

21 Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, "Aha! Aha! Our eye has seen it!"

22 You have seen it, LORD. Don't keep silent. Lord, don't be far from me.

23 Wake up! Rise up to defend me, my God! My Lord, contend for me!

24 Vindicate me, LORD my God, according to your righteousness; Don't let them gloat over me.

25 Don't let them say in their heart, "Aha! That's the way we want it." Don't let them say, "We have swallowed him up!"

26 Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

27 Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause. Yes, let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant!"

28 My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long.

Psalms 65

1 Praise waits for you, God, in Tziyon. To you shall vows be performed.

2 You who hear prayer, To you all men will come.

3 Sins overwhelmed me, But you atoned for our transgressions.

4 Blessed is one whom you choose, and cause to come near, That he may live in your courts. We will be filled with the goodness of your house, Your holy temple.

5 By awesome deeds of righteousness, you answer us, God of our salvation. You who are the hope of all the ends of the eretz, Of those who are far away on the sea;

6 Who by his power forms the mountains, Having armed yourself with strength;

7 Who stills the roaring of the seas, The roaring of their waves, And the turmoil of the nations.

8 They also who dwell in far-away places are afraid at your wonders. You call the morning's dawn and the evening with songs of joy.

9 You visit the eretz, and water it. You greatly enrich it. The river of God is full of water. You provide them grain, for so you have ordained it.

10 You drench its furrows. You level its ridges. You soften it with showers. You bless it with a crop.

11 You crown the year with your bounty. Your carts overflow with abundance.

12 The wilderness grasslands overflow. The hills are clothed with gladness.

13 The pastures are covered with flocks. The valleys also are clothed with grain. They shout for joy! They also sing.

Psalms 95

1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD. Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving. Let us make a joyful noise to him with psalms!

3 For the LORD is a great God, A great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the deep places of the eretz. The heights of the mountains are also his.

5 The sea is his, and he made it. His hands formed the dry land.

6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker,

7 For he is our God. We are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, oh that you would hear his voice!

8 Don't harden your heart, as at Merivah, As in the day of Massah in the wilderness,

9 When your fathers tempted me, Tested me, and saw my work.

10 Forty long years I was grieved with that generation, And said, "It is a people that errs in their heart. They have not known my ways."

11 Therefore I swore in my wrath, "They won't enter into my rest."

Psalms 125

1 Those who trust in the LORD are as Mount Tziyon, Which can't be moved, but remains forever.

2 As the mountains surround Yerushalayim, So the LORD surrounds his people from this time forth and forevermore.

3 For the scepter of wickedness won't remain over the allotment of the righteous; So that the righteous won't put forth their hands to iniquity.

4 Do good, LORD, to those who are good, To those who are upright in their hearts.

5 But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, The LORD will lead them away with the workers of iniquity. Shalom be on Yisra'el.

PROVERBS

Proverbs 5

1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding:

2 That you may maintain discretion, That your lips may preserve knowledge.

3 For the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil,

4 But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, And as sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to She'ol.

6 She gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn't know it.

7 Now therefore, my sons, listen to me. Don't depart from the words of my mouth.

8 Remove your way far from her. Don't come near the door of her house,

9 Lest you give your honor to others, And your years to the cruel one;

10 Lest strangers feast on your wealth, And your labors enrich another man's house.

11 You will groan at your latter end, When your flesh and your body are consumed,

12 And say, "How I have hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof;

13 Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!

14 I have come to the brink of utter ruin, In the midst of the gathered assembly."

15 Drink water out of your own cistern, Running water out of your own well.

16 Should your springs overflow in the streets, Streams of water in the public squares?

17 Let them be for yourself alone, Not for strangers with you.

18 Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.

19 A loving hind and a pleasant doe -- Let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love.

20 For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?

21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD. He examines all his paths.

22 The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

23 He will die for lack of instruction. In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.
