PSALMS: 22
1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from helping me,
and from the words of my groaning?
2 My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don't answer;
In the night season, and am not silent.
3 But you are holy,
You who inhabit the praises of Yisra'el.
4 Our fathers trusted in you.
They trusted, and you delivered them.
5 They cried to you, and were delivered.
They trusted in you, and were not put to shame.
6 But I am a worm, and no man;
A reproach of men, and despised by the people.
7 All those who see me mock me.
They insult me with their lips.
They shake their heads, saying,
8 "He trusts in the LORD; Let him deliver him;
Let him rescue him, since he delights in him."
9 But you brought me out of the womb.
You made me trust at my mother's breasts.
10 I was thrown on you from my mother's womb.
You are my God since my mother bore me.
11 Don't be far from me, for trouble is near.
For there is none to help.
12 Many bulls have surrounded me.
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.
13 They open their mouths wide against me,
Lions tearing prey and roaring.
14 I am poured out like water.
All my bones are out of joint.
My heart is like wax;
It is melted within me.
15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd.
My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.
You have brought me into the dust of death.
16 For dogs have surrounded me.
A company of evil-doers have enclosed me.
They pierced my hands and my feet.
17 I can count all of my bones.
They look and stare at me.
18 They divide my garments among them.
They cast lots for my clothing.
19 But don't be far off, LORD.
You are my help: hurry to help me.
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
My precious life from the power of the dog.
21 Save me from the lion's mouth;
Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me.
22 I will declare your name to my brothers.
In the midst of the assembly, will I praise you.
23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!
All you descendants of Ya`akov, glorify him!
Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Yisra'el!
24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted,
Neither has he hid his face from him;
But when he cried to him, he heard.
25 Of you comes my praise in the great assembly.
I will pay my vows before those who fear him.
26 The humble shall eat and be satisfied.
They shall praise the LORD who seek after him.
Let your hearts live forever.
27 All the ends of the eretz shall remember and turn to the LORD.
All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.
28 For the kingdom is the LORD's.
He is the ruler over the nations.
29 All the rich ones of the eretz shall eat and worship.
All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him,
Even he who can't keep his soul alive.
30 Posterity shall serve him.
Future generations shall be told about the Lord.
31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, For he has done it.
PSALMS: 52
1 Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?
God's loving kindness endures continually.
2 Your tongue plots destruction,
Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 You love evil more than good,
Lying rather than speaking the truth.
Selah.
4 You love all devouring words,
You deceitful tongue.
5 God will likewise destroy you forever.
He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent,
And root you out of the land of the living.
Selah.
6 The righteous also will see it, and fear,
And laugh at him, saying,
7 "Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength,
But trusted in the abundance of his riches,
And strengthened himself in his wickedness."
8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house.
I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.
9 I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.
I will hope in your name, for it is good,
In the presence of your holy ones.
PSALMS: 82
1 God presides in the great assembly.
He judges among the gods.
2 "How long will you judge unjustly,
And show partiality to the wicked?"
Selah.
3 "Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless.
Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
4 Rescue the weak and needy.
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked."
5 They don't know, neither do they understand.
They walk back and forth in darkness.
All the foundations of the eretz are shaken.
6 I said, "You are gods,
All of you are sons of Ha`Elyon.
7 Nevertheless you shall die like men,
And fall like one of the rulers."
8 Arise, God, judge the eretz,
For you inherit all of the nations.
PSALMS: 112
1 Praise the LORD!
Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,
Who delights greatly in his mitzvot.
2 His seed will be mighty on eretz.
The generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house.
His righteousness endures forever.
4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright,
Gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends.
He will maintain his cause in judgment.
6 For he will never be shaken.
The righteous will be remembered forever.
7 He will not be afraid of evil news.
His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
8 His heart is established.
He will not be afraid in the end when he sees his adversaries.
9 He has dispersed, he has given to the poor.
His righteousness endures forever.
His horn will be exalted with honor.
10 The wicked will see it, and be grieved.
He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away.
The desire of the wicked will perish.
PSALMS: 142
1 I cry with my voice to the LORD.
With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy.
2 I pour out my complaint before him.
I tell him my troubles.
3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,
You knew my path.
In the way in which I walk,
They have hidden a snare for me.
4 Look on my right, and see;
For there is no one who is concerned for me.
Refuge has fled from me.
No one cares for my soul.
5 I cried to you, the LORD.
I said, "You are my refuge,
My portion in the land of the living."
6 Listen to my cry,
For I am in desperate need.
Deliver me from my persecutors,
For they are stronger than me.
7 Bring my soul out of prison,
That I may give thanks to your name.
The righteous will surround me,
For you will be good to me.
PROVERBS: 22
1 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
Loving favor rather than silver and gold.
2 The rich and the poor have this in common:
The LORD is the maker of them all.
3 A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself;
But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
4 The result of humility and the fear of the LORD
Is wealth, honor, and life.
5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked:
Whoever guards his soul stays from them.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 The rich rules over the poor.
The borrower is servant to the lender.
8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,
And the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed;
For he shares his food with the poor.
10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out;
Yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully Is the king's friend.
12 The eyes of the LORD watch over knowledge;
But he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
13 The sluggard says,
"There is a lion outside!
I will be killed in the streets!"
14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit:
He who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child:
The rod of discipline drives it far from him.
16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich,
Both come to poverty.
17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise.
Apply your heart to my teaching.
18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you,
If all of them are ready on your lips.
19 That your trust may be in the LORD,
I teach you today, even you.
20 Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things
Of counsel and knowledge,
21 To teach you truth, reliable words,
To give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
22 Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor;
And don't crush the needy in court;
23 For the LORD will plead their case,
And plunder the life of those who plunder them.
24 Don't befriend a hot-tempered man,
And don't associate with one who harbors anger:
25 Lest you learn his ways,
And ensnare your soul.
26 Don't you be one of those who strike hands,
Of those who are collateral for debts.
27 If you don't have means to pay,
Why should he take away your bed from under you?
28 Don't move the ancient boundary stone,
Which your fathers have set up.
29 Do you see a man skilled in his work?
He will serve kings;
He won't serve obscure men.
OLD TESTAMENT: 1 SAMUEL 15:1 - 16:23
15:1 Shemu'el said to Sha'ul, the LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Yisra'el: now therefore listen you to the voice of the words of the LORD. 2 Thus says the LORD of Hosts, I have marked that which `Amalek did to Yisra'el, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Mitzrayim. 3 Now go and strike `Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and don't spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and donkey. 4 Sha'ul summoned the people, and numbered them in Tela'im, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Yehudah. 5 Sha'ul came to the city of `Amalek, and laid wait in the valley. 6 Sha'ul said to the Kinim, Go, depart, get you down from among the `Amaleki, lest I destroy you with them; for you shown kindness to all the children of Yisra'el, when they came up out of Mitzrayim. So the Kinim departed from among the `Amaleki. 7 Sha'ul struck the `Amaleki, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Mitzrayim. 8 He took Agag the king of the `Amaleki alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. 9 But Sha'ul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn't utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly. 10 Then came the word of the LORD to Shemu'el, saying, 11 It repents me that I have set up Sha'ul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and has not performed my mitzvot. Shemu'el was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night. 12 Shemu'el rose early to meet Sha'ul in the morning; and it was told Shemu'el, saying, Sha'ul came to Karmel, and, behold, he set him up a monument, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal. 13 Shemu'el came to Sha'ul; and Sha'ul said to him, Blessed are you by the LORD: I have performed the mitzvah of the LORD. 14 Shemu'el said, What means then this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? 15 Sha'ul said, They have brought them from the `Amaleki: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. 16 Then Shemu'el said to Sha'ul, Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me this night. He said to him, Say on. 17 Shemu'el said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren't you made the head of the tribes of Yisra'el? the LORD anointed you king over Yisra'el; 18 and the LORD sent you on a journey, and said, 'Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the `Amaleki, and fight against them until they are consumed.' 19 Why then didn't you obey the voice of the LORD, but flew on the spoil, and did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?" 20 Sha'ul said to Shemu'el, Yes, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of `Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the `Amaleki. 21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal. 22 Shemu'el said, Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and terafim. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king. 24 Sha'ul said to Shemu'el, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the mitzvah of the LORD, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD. 26 Shemu'el said to Sha'ul, I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Yisra'el. 27 As Shemu'el turned about to go away, [Sha'ul] laid hold on the skirt of his robe, and it tore. 28 Shemu'el said to him, the LORD has torn the kingdom of Yisra'el from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you. 29 Also the Strength of Yisra'el will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent. 30 Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, Please, before the Zakenim of my people, and before Yisra'el, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD your God. 31 So Shemu'el turned again after Sha'ul; and Sha'ul worshiped the LORD. 32 Then said Shemu'el, Bring you here to me Agag the king of the `Amaleki. Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past. 33 Shemu'el said, As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women. Shemu'el hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal. 34 Then Shemu'el went to Ramah; and Sha'ul went up to his house to Gevah of Sha'ul. 35 Shemu'el came no more to see Sha'ul until the day of his death; for Shemu'el mourned for Sha'ul: and the LORD repented that he had made Sha'ul king over Yisra'el.
16:1 The LORD said to Shemu'el, How long will you mourn for Sha'ul, seeing I have rejected him from being king over Yisra'el? fill your horn with oil, and go: I will send you to Yishai the Beit-Hallachmite; for I have provided me a king among his sons.
2 Shemu'el said, How can I go? if Sha'ul hear it, he will kill me. The LORD said, Take a heifer with you, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. 3 Call Yishai to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do: and you shall anoint to me him whom I name to you. 4 Shemu'el did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Beit-Lechem. The Zakenim of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, Come you peaceably? 5 He said, Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice to the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. He sanctified Yishai and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. 6 It happened, when they had come, that he looked at Eli'av, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him. 7 But the LORD said to Shemu'el, "Don't look on his face, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for [the LORD sees] not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 8 Then Yishai called Avinadav, and made him pass before Shemu'el. He said, Neither has the LORD chosen this. 9 Then Yishai made Shammah to pass by. He said, Neither has the LORD chosen this. 10 Yishai made seven of his sons to pass before Shemu'el. Shemu'el said to Yishai, the LORD has not chosen these. 11 Shemu'el said to Yishai, Are here all your children? He said, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he is keeping the sheep. Shemu'el said to Yishai, Send and get him; for we will not sit down until he come here. 12 He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful face, and goodly to look on. The LORD said, Arise, anoint him; for this is he. 13 Then Shemu'el took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily on David from that day forward. So Shemu'el rose up, and went to Ramah. 14 Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Sha'ul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. 15 Sha'ul's servants said to him, See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you. 16 Let our lord now command your servants who are before you, to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp: and it shall happen, when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play with his hand, and you shall be well. 17 Sha'ul said to his servants, Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me. 18 Then answered one of the young men, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Yishai the Beit-Hallachmite, who is skillful in playing, and a mighty man of valor, and a man of war, and prudent in speech, and a comely person; and the LORD is with him. 19 Therefore Sha'ul sent messengers to Yishai, and said, Send me David your son, who is with the sheep. 20 Yishai took a donkey [laden] with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son to Sha'ul. 21 David came to Sha'ul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer. 22 Sha'ul sent to Yishai, saying, Please let David stand before me; for he has found favor in my sight. 23 It happened, when the [evil] spirit from God was on Sha'ul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand: so Sha'ul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
NEW TESTAMENT: JOHN 8:1 - 20
8:1 but Yeshua went to the Mount of Olives.
2 At early dawn, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them.
3 The Sofrim and the Perushim brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst,
4 they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now in our law, Moshe commanded us to stone such. What then do you say about her?"
6 They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Yeshua stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.
7 But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."
8 Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.
9 They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Yeshua was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.
10 Yeshua, standing up, saw her and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?"
11 She said, "No one, Lord." Yeshua said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more."
12 Again, therefore, Yeshua spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."
13 The Perushim therefore said to him, "You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid."
14 Yeshua answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don't know where I came from, or where I am going.
15 You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.
16 Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.
17 It's also written in your law that the testimony of two men is valid.
18 I am he who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me."
19 They said therefore to him, "Where is your Father?" Yeshua answered, "You know neither me, nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also."
20 Yeshua spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. No one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.
