Of
David.
1
The
LORD is my light and my salvation--
whom
shall I fear?
The
LORD is the stronghold of my life--
of
whom shall I be afraid?
2
When
evil men advance against me
to
devour my flesh, A
when
my enemies and my foes attack me,
they
will stumble and fall.
3
Though
an army besiege me,
my
heart will not fear;
though
war break out against me,
even
then will I be confident.
4
One
thing I ask of the LORD,
this
is what I seek:
that
I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all
the days of my life,
to
gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and
to seek him in his temple.
5
For
in the day of trouble
he
will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he
will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and
set me high upon a rock.
6
Then
my head will be exalted
above
the enemies who surround me;
at
his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I
will sing and make music to the LORD.
[1]
7
Hear
my voice when I call, O LORD;
be
merciful to me and answer me.
8
My
heart says of you, "Seek his B face!"
Your
face, LORD, I will seek.
9
Do
not hide your face from me,
do
not turn your servant away in anger;
you
have been my helper.
Do
not reject me or forsake me,
O
God my Savior.
10
Though
my father and mother forsake me,
the
LORD will receive me.
11
Teach
me your way, O LORD;
lead
me in a straight path
because
of my oppressors.
12
Do
not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
for
false witnesses rise up against me,
breathing
out violence.
13
I
am still confident of this:
I
will see the goodness of the LORD
in
the land of the living.
14
Wait
for the LORD;
be
strong and take heart
and
wait for the LORD.
PSALMS: 57
1
Have
mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me,
for
in you my soul takes refuge.
I
will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
until
the disaster has passed.
2
I
cry out to God Most High,
to
God, who fulfills his purpose for me.
3
He
sends from heaven and saves me,
rebuking
those who hotly pursue me;
Selah
God
sends his love and his faithfulness.
4
I
am in the midst of lions;
I
lie among ravenous beasts--
men
whose teeth are spears and arrows,
whose
tongues are sharp swords.
5
Be
exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let
your glory be over all the earth.
6
They
spread a net for my feet--
I
was bowed down in distress.
They
dug a pit in my path--
but
they have fallen into it themselves.
Selah [2]
7
My
heart is steadfast, O God,
my
heart is steadfast;
I
will sing and make music.
8
Awake,
my soul!
Awake,
harp and lyre!
I
will awaken the dawn.
9
I
will praise you, O Lord, among the nations;
I
will sing of you among the peoples.
10
For
great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your
faithfulness reaches to the skies.
11
Be
exalted, O God, above the heavens;
let
your glory be over all the earth. [3]

Of
the Sons of Korah. A psalm. A song.
1
He
has set his foundation on the holy mountain;
2
the
LORD loves the gates of Zion
more
than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3
Glorious
things are said of you,
O
city of God:
Selah
4
"I will record Rahab A and Babylon
among
those who acknowledge me--
Philistia
too, and Tyre, along with Cush B--
and
will say, `This C
one was born in Zion.'"
5
Indeed,
of Zion it will be said,
"This one and that one were born in
her,
and
the Most High himself will establish her."
6
The
LORD will write in the register of the peoples:
"This one was born in Zion."
Selah
7
As
they make music they will sing,
"All my fountains are in you." [4]
PSALMS: 117
1
Praise
the LORD, all you nations;
extol
him, all you peoples.
2
For
great is his love toward us,
and
the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.
Praise
the LORD. A [5]
PSALMS: 147
1
Praise
the LORD. A
How
good it is to sing praises to our God,
how
pleasant and fitting to praise him!
2
The
LORD builds up Jerusalem;
he
gathers the exiles of Israel.
3
He
heals the brokenhearted
and
binds up their wounds.
4
He
determines the number of the stars
and
calls them each by name.
5
Great
is our Lord and mighty in power;
his
understanding has no limit.
6
The
LORD sustains the humble
but
casts the wicked to the ground.
7
Sing
to the LORD with thanksgiving;
make
music to our God on the harp.
8
He
covers the sky with clouds;
he
supplies the earth with rain
and
makes grass grow on the hills.
9
He
provides food for the cattle
and
for the young ravens when they call.
10
His
pleasure is not in the strength of the horse,
nor
his delight in the legs of a man;
11
the
LORD delights in those who fear him,
who
put their hope in his unfailing love. [6]
12
Extol
the LORD, O Jerusalem;
praise
your God, O Zion,
13
for
he strengthens the bars of your gates
and
blesses your people within you.
14
He
grants peace to your borders
and
satisfies you with the finest of wheat.
15
He
sends his command to the earth;
his
word runs swiftly.
16
He
spreads the snow like wool
and
scatters the frost like ashes.
17
He
hurls down his hail like pebbles.
Who
can withstand his icy blast?
18
He
sends his word and melts them;
he
stirs up his breezes, and the waters flow.
19
He
has revealed his word to Jacob,
his
laws and decrees to Israel.
20
He
has done this for no other nation;
they
do not know his laws.
Praise
the LORD. [7]

1
Do not boast about tomorrow,
for
you do not know what a day may bring forth.
2
Let
another praise you, and not your own mouth;
someone
else, and not your own lips.
3
Stone
is heavy and sand a burden,
but
provocation by a fool is heavier than both.
4
Anger
is cruel and fury overwhelming,
but
who can stand before jealousy?
5
Better
is open rebuke
than
hidden love.
6
Wounds
from a friend can be trusted,
but
an enemy multiplies kisses.
7
He
who is full loathes honey,
but
to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
8
Like
a bird that strays from its nest
is
a man who strays from his home.
9
Perfume
and incense bring joy to the heart,
and
the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest
counsel.
10
Do
not forsake your friend and the friend of your father,
and
do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes
you--
better
a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.
11
Be
wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart;
then
I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt. [8]
12
The
prudent see danger and take refuge,
but
the simple keep going and suffer for it.
13
Take
the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger;
hold
it in pledge if he does it for a wayward woman.
14
If
a man loudly blesses his neighbor early in the morning,
it
will be taken as a curse.
15
A
quarrelsome wife is like
a
constant dripping on a rainy day;
16
restraining
her is like restraining the wind
or
grasping oil with the hand.
17
As
iron sharpens iron,
so
one man sharpens another.
18
He
who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,
and
he who looks after his master will be honored.
19
As
water reflects a face,
so
a man's heart reflects the man.
20
Death
and Destruction A are never satisfied,
and
neither are the eyes of man.
21
The
crucible for silver and the furnace for gold,
but
man is tested by the praise he receives.
22
Though
you grind a fool in a mortar,
grinding
him like grain with a pestle,
you
will not remove his folly from him. [9]
23
Be
sure you know the condition of your flocks,
give
careful attention to your herds;
24
for
riches do not endure forever,
and
a crown is not secure for all generations.
25
When
the hay is removed and new growth appears
and
the grass from the hills is gathered in,
26
the
lambs will provide you with clothing,
and
the goats with the price of a field.
27
You
will have plenty of goats' milk
to
feed you and your family
and
to nourish your servant girls. [10]

TESTAMENT: NUMBERS 26:52 - 28:15
52
The
LORD said to Moses, 53 "The land is to be
allotted to them as an inheritance based on the number of names.
54 To a larger group give a larger
inheritance, and to a smaller group a smaller one; each is to receive its
inheritance according to the number of those listed. 55 Be sure that the land is distributed by lot. What each
group inherits will be according to the names for its ancestral tribe.
56 Each inheritance is to be
distributed by lot among the larger and smaller groups."
57
These
were the Levites who were counted by their clans:
through
Gershon, the Gershonite clan;
through
Kohath, the Kohathite clan;
through
Merari, the Merarite clan.
58
These
also were Levite clans:
the
Libnite clan,
the
Hebronite clan,
the
Mahlite clan,
the
Mushite clan,
the
Korahite clan.
(Kohath
was the forefather of Amram; 59 the name of Amram's wife was
Jochebed, a descendant of Levi, who was born to the Levites F in
Egypt. To Amram she bore Aaron, Moses and their sister Miriam.
60
Aaron
was the father of Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 61 But Nadab
and Abihu died when they made an offering before the LORD with unauthorized
fire.)
62 All the male Levites a month old
or more numbered 23,000. They were not counted along with the other Israelites
because they received no inheritance among them.
63
These
are the ones counted by Moses and Eleazar the priest when they counted the
Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. 64
Not one of them was among those counted by Moses and Aaron the priest when
they counted the Israelites in the Desert of Sinai. 65 For the LORD
had told those Israelites they would surely die in the desert, and not one of
them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of
Nun.
27
1
The
daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the
son of Manasseh, belonged to the clans of Manasseh [11]
son of Joseph. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and
Tirzah. They approached 2 the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and
stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders and the whole assembly, and
said, 3 "Our father died in the desert. He was not among Korah's
followers, who banded together against the LORD, but he died for his own sin and
left no sons. 4 Why should our father's name disappear from his clan
because he had no son? Give us property among our father's relatives."
5
So
Moses brought their case before the LORD 6 and the LORD said to him,
7 "What Zelophehad's daughters are saying
is right. You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their
father's relatives and turn their father's inheritance over to them.
8
"Say to the Israelites, `If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance
over to his daughter. 9
If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. 10
If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father's brothers.
11
If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in
his clan, that he may possess it. This is to be a legal requirement for the
Israelites, as the LORD commanded Moses.'
"
12
Then
the LORD said to Moses, "Go up this mountain in the
Abarim range and see the land I have given the Israelites.
13 After you have seen it, you too
will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, 14
for when the community rebelled at the waters in
the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before
their eyes." (These were the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the Desert of
Zin.)
15
Moses
said to the LORD, 16 "May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all
mankind, appoint a man over this community 17 to go out and come in
before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the LORD's people
will not be like sheep without a shepherd."
18
So
the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man
in whom is the spirit, A and lay
your hand on him. 19 Have him stand
before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their
presence. 20 Give him some of your
authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.
21 He is to stand before Eleazar the
priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the
LORD. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out,
and at his command they will come in."
22
Moses
did as the LORD commanded him. He took Joshua and had him stand before Eleazar
the priest and the whole assembly. 23 Then he laid his hands on him
and commissioned him, as the LORD instructed through
Moses.
28
1
The
LORD said to Moses, 2 "Give this command to
the Israelites and say to them: `See that you present to me at the appointed
time the food for my offerings made by fire, as an aroma pleasing to me.'
3 Say to them: `This is the offering
made by fire that you are to present to the LORD: [12]
two
lambs a year old without defect, as a regular burnt offering each day.
4
Prepare one lamb in the morning and the other at twilight, 5
together with a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah A
of fine flour mixed with a quarter of a hin B
of oil from pressed olives.
6
This is the regular burnt offering instituted at Mount Sinai as a pleasing
aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire. 7
The accompanying drink offering is to be a quarter of a hin of fermented drink
with each lamb. Pour out the drink offering to the LORD at the sanctuary.
8
Prepare the second lamb at twilight, along with the same kind of grain offering
and drink offering that you prepare in the morning. This is an offering made by
fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.
9
"`On the Sabbath day, make an offering of two lambs a year old without defect,
together with its drink offering and a grain offering of two-tenths of an ephah
C
of fine flour mixed with oil. 10
This is the burnt offering for every Sabbath, in addition to the regular burnt
offering and its drink offering.
11
"`On the first of every month, present to the LORD a burnt offering of two young
bulls, one ram and seven male lambs a year old, all without defect.
12
With each bull there is to be a grain offering of three-tenths of an Ephah
D
of fine flour mixed with oil; with the ram, a grain offering of two-tenths of an
ephah of fine flour mixed with oil;
13
and with each lamb, a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed
with oil. This is for a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma, an offering made to
the LORD by fire. 14
With each bull there is to be a drink offering of half a hin E
of wine; with the ram, a third of a hin F;
and with each lamb, a quarter of a hin. This is the monthly burnt offering to be
made at each new moon during the year. 15
Besides
the regular burnt offering with its drink offering, one male goat is to be
presented to the LORD as a sin offering.

TESTAMENT: LUKE 3:1 - 22
3
1
In
the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar--when Pontius Pilate was
governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of
Iturea and Traconitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene—2 during the
high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of
Zechariah in the desert. 3 He went into all the country around the
Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4
As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:
"A voice of one calling in the desert,
`Prepare
the way for the Lord,
make
straight paths for him.
5
Every valley shall be filled in,
every
mountain and hill made low.
The
crooked roads shall become straight,
the
rough ways smooth.
6
And all mankind will see God's salvation.'"
A
7
John
said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who
warned you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 Produce fruit in keeping
with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, `We have Abraham as our
father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for
Abraham. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree
that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."
10
"What
should we do then?" the crowd asked.
11
John
answered, "The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the
one who has food should do the same."
12
Tax
collectors also came to be baptized. "Teacher," they asked, "what should we do?"
13
"Don't
collect any more than you are required to," he told them.
14
Then
some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?"
He
replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely--be content with
your pay."
15
The
people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John
might possibly be the Christ. B
16
John
answered them all, "I baptize you with C water. But one more powerful
than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will
baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 17 His winnowing fork
is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his
barn, but [14]he
will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." 18 And with many
other words John exhorted the people and preached the good news to them.
19
But
when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother's wife,
and all the other evil things he had done, 20 Herod added this to
them all: He locked John up in prison.
21
When
all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was
praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in
bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well
pleased." [15]

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
