THEinc-HIM Daily Bible Meditation - February 12 - Full Text!

Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

FEBRUARY 12

PSALMS:  12, 42, 72, 102, 132

PROVERBS:  12

OLD TESTAMENT:  JUDGES 19:1 - 20:48

NEW TESTAMENT:  JOHN 3:22 - 4:3

PSALMS:  12

1 Help, LORD;
for the godly man ceases.
For the faithful fail from among the children of men.
2 Everyone lies to his neighbor.
With flattering lips, and with a double heart, do they speak.
3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips,
And the tongue that boasts,
4 Who have said, "With our tongue will we prevail.
Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?"
5 "Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy,
I will now arise," says the LORD;
"I will set him in safety from those who malign him."
6 The words of the LORD are flawless words,
As silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.
7 You will keep them, LORD,
You will preserve them from this generation forever.
8 The wicked walk on every side,
When what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.

PSALMS:  42

So pants my soul after you, God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?
3 My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"
4 These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me,
How I used to go with the crowd, and led them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day.
5 Why are you in despair, my soul?
Why are you disturbed within me?
Hope in God!
For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence.
6 My God, my soul is in despair within me.
Therefore I remember you from the land of the Yarden,
The heights of Hermon, from the hill Mitz`ar.
7 Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls.
All your waves and your billows have swept over me.
8 The LORD will command his loving kindness in the daytime.
In the night his song shall be with me:
A prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will ask God, my rock,
"Why have you forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"
10 As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me,
While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"
11 Why are you in despair, my soul?
Why are you disturbed within me?
Hope in God!
For I shall still praise him,
The saving help of my countenance, and my God.

PSALMS:  72

1 God, give the king your justice;
Your righteousness to the royal son.
2 He will judge your people with righteousness,
And your poor with justice.
3 The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people;
The hills bring the fruit of righteousness.
4 He will judge the poor of the people.
He will save the children of the needy,
And will break the oppressor in pieces.
5 They shall fear you while the sun endures;
And as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
6 He will come down like rain on the mown grass,
As showers that water the eretz.
7 In his days, the righteous shall flourish,
And abundance of shalom, until the moon is no more.
8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,
From the River to the ends of the eretz.
9 Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him.
His enemies shall lick the dust.
10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute.
The kings of Sheva and Seva shall offer gifts.
11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before him.
All nations shall serve him.
12 For he will deliver the needy when he cries;
The poor, who has no helper.
13 He will have pity on the poor and needy.
He will save the souls of the needy.
14 He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence.
Their blood will be precious in his sight.
15 They shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheva.
Men shall pray for him continually.
They shall bless him all day long.
16 There shall be abundance of grain throughout the land.
Its fruit sways like Levanon.
Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field.
17 His name endures forever.
His name continues as long as the sun.
Men shall be blessed by him.
All nations will call him blessed.
18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Yisra'el
Who alone does marvelous deeds.
19 Blessed be his glorious name forever!
Let the whole eretz be filled with his glory!
Amein and amein.
20 This ends the prayers by David, the son of Yishai.

PSALMS:  102

1 Hear my prayer, LORD! Let my cry come to you.
2 Don't hide your face from me in the day of my distress.
Turn your ear to me.
Answer me quickly in the day when I call.
3 For my days consume away like smoke.
My bones are burned as a firebrand.
4 My heart is blighted like grass, and withered,
For I forget to eat my bread.
5 By reason of the voice of my groaning,
My bones stick to my skin.
6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness.
I have become as an owl of the waste places.
7 I watch, and have become like a sparrow that is alone on the housetop.
8 My enemies reproach me all day.
Those who are mad at me use my name as a curse.
9 For I have eaten ashes like bread,
And mixed my drink with tears,
10 Because of your indignation and your wrath,
For you have taken me up, and thrown me away.
11 My days are like a long shadow.
I have withered like grass.
12 But you, LORD, will abide forever;
Your renown endures to all generations.
13 You will arise and have mercy on Tziyon
For it is time to have pity on her.
Yes, the set time has come.
14 For your servants take pleasure in her stones,
And have pity on her dust.
15 So the nations will fear the name of the LORD;
All the kings of the eretz your glory.
16 For the LORD has built up Tziyon.
He has appeared in his glory.
17 He has responded to the prayer of the destitute,
And has not despised their prayer.
18 This will be written for the generation to come.
A people which will be created will praise the LORD.
19 For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary.
From heaven, the LORD saw the eretz;
20 To hear the groans of the prisoner;
To free those who are condemned to death;
21 That men may declare the name of the LORD in Tziyon,
And his praise in Yerushalayim;
22 When the peoples are gathered together,
The kingdoms, to serve the LORD.
23 He weakened my strength along the course.
He shortened my days.
24 I said, "My God, don't take me away in the midst of my days.
Your years are throughout all generations.
25 Of old, you laid the foundation of the eretz.
The heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you will endure.
Yes, all of them will wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed.
27 But you are the same.
Your years will have no end.
28 The children of your servants will continue.
Their seed will be established before you."

PSALMS:  132

1 LORD, remember David and all his affliction,
2 How he swore to the LORD,
And vowed to the Mighty One of Ya`akov:
3 "Surely I will not come into the structure of my house,
Nor go up into my bed;
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes,
Or slumber to my eyelids;
5 Until I find out a place for the LORD,
A dwelling for the Mighty One of Ya`akov."
6 Behold, we heard of it in Efratah.
We found it in the field of Ya`ar:
7 "We will go into his dwelling place.
We will worship at his footstool.
8 Arise, LORD, into your resting place;
You, and the ark of your strength
9 Let your Kohen be clothed with righteousness.
Let your holy ones shout for joy!"
10 For your servant David's sake,
Don't turn away the face of your anointed one.
11 The LORD has sworn to David in truth.
He will not turn from it:
"I will set the fruit of your body on your throne.
12 If your children will keep my covenant,
My testimony that I will teach them,
Their children also will sit on your throne forevermore."
13 For the LORD has chosen Tziyon.
He has desired it for his habitation.
14 "This is my resting place forever.
Here I will live, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provision.
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her Kohanim I will also clothe with salvation.
Her holy ones will shout aloud for joy.
17 There I will make the horn of David to bud.
I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,
But on himself, his crown will be resplendant."

PROVERBS:  12

1 Whoever loves correction loves knowledge,
But he who hates reproof is stupid.
2 A good man shall obtain favor from the LORD,
But he will condemn a man of wicked devices.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness,
But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband,
But a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are just.
The advice of the wicked is deceitful.
6 The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood,
But the speech of the upright rescues them.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more,
But the house of the righteous shall stand.
8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom
But he who has a warped mind shall be despised.
9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed, and has a servant,
Than he who honors himself, and lacks bread.
10 A righteous man regards the life of his animal,
But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11 He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread,
But he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.
12 The wicked desires the plunder of evil men,
But the root of the righteous flourishes.
13 An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips,
But the righteous shall come out of trouble.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth.
The doings of a man's hands shall be rewarded to him.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
But he who is wise listens to counsel.
16 A fool shows his annoyance the same day,
But one who overlooks an insult is prudent.
17 He who is truthful testifies honestly,
But a false witness lies.
18 There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword,
But the tongue of the wise heals.
19 Truth's lips will be established forever,
But a lying tongue is only momentary.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil,
But joy comes to the promoters of shalom.
21 No mischief shall happen to the righteous,
But the wicked shall be filled with evil.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD,
But those who do the truth are his delight.
23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge,
But the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness.
24 The hands of the diligent ones shall rule,
But laziness ends in slave labor.
25 Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down,
But a kind word makes it glad.
26 The righteous is cautious in friendship,
But the way of the wicked leads them astray.
27 The slothful man doesn't roast his game,
But the possessions of diligent men are prized.
28 In the way of righteousness is life;
In its path there is no death.

OLD TESTAMENT:  JUDGES 19:1 - 20:48

19:1 It happened in those days, when there was no king in Yisra'el, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the farther side of the hill-country of Efrayim, who took to him a concubine out of Beit-Lechem-Yehudah. 2 His concubine played the prostitute against him, and went away from him to her father's house to Beit-Lechem-Yehudah, and was there the space of four months. 3 Her husband arose, and went after her, to speak kindly to her, to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of donkeys: and she brought him into her father's house; and when the father of the young lady saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. 4 His father-in-law, the young lady's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they ate and drink, and lodged there. 5 It happened on the fourth day, that they arose early in the morning, and he rose up to depart: and the young lady's father said to his son-in-law, Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward you shall go your way. 6 So they sat down, and ate and drink, both of them together: and the young lady's father said to the man, Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry. 7 The man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law urged him, and he lodged there again. 8 He arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the young lady's father said, Please strengthen your heart and stay until the day declines; and they ate, both of them. 9 When the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the young lady's father, said to him, Behold, now the day draws toward evening, please stay all night: behold, the day grows to an end, lodge here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow get you early on your way, that you may go home. 10 But the man wouldn't stay that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Yevus (the same is Yerushalayim): and there were with him a couple of donkeys saddled; his concubine also was with him. 11 When they were by Yevus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, Please come and let us turn aside into this city of the Yevusi, and lodge in it. 12 His master said to him, We won't turn aside into the city of a foreigner, that is not of the children of Yisra'el; but we will pass over to Gevah. 13 He said to his servant, Come and let us draw near to one of these places; and we will lodge in Gevah, or in Ramah. 14 So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them near to Gevah, which belongs to Binyamin. 15 They turned aside there, to go in to lodge in Gevah: and he went in, and sat him down in the street of the city; for there was no man who took them into his house to lodge. 16 Behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even: now the man was of the hill-country of Efrayim, and he sojourned in Gevah; but the men of the place were Binyamini. 17 He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, Where go you? and whence come you? 18 He said to him, We are passing from Beit-Lechem-Yehudah to the farther side of the hill-country of Efrayim; from there am I, and I went to Beit-Lechem-Yehudah: and I am [now] going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man who takes me into his house. 19 Yet there is both straw and provender for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your handmaid, and for the young man who is with your servants: there is no want of anything. 20 The old man said, Shalom be to you; howsoever let all your wants lie on me; only don't lodge in the street. 21 So he brought him into his house, and gave the donkeys fodder; and they washed their feet, and ate and drink. 22 As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain base fellows, beset the house round about, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man who came into your house, that we may know him. 23 The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, No, my brothers, please don't act so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into my house, don't do this folly. 24 Behold, here is my daughter a virgin, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble you them, and do with them what seems good to you: but to this man don't do any such folly. 25 But the men wouldn't listen to him: so the man laid hold on his concubine, and brought her forth to them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. 26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, until it was light. 27 Her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way; and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, with her hands on the threshold. 28 He said to her, Up, and let us be going; but none answered: then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and got him to his place. 29 When he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, limb by limb, into twelve pieces, and sent her throughout all the borders of Yisra'el. 30 It was so, that all who saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Yisra'el came up out of the land of Mitzrayim to this day: consider it, take counsel, and speak.

20:1 Then all the children of Yisra'el went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Be'er-Sheva, with the land of Gil`ad, to the LORD at Mitzpah. 2 The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Yisra'el, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword. 3 (Now the children of Binyamin heard that the children of Yisra'el had gone up to Mitzpah.) The children of Yisra'el said, Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass? 4 The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, I came into Gevah that belongs to Binyamin, I and my concubine, to lodge. 5 The men of Gevah rose against me, and beset the house round about me by night; me they thought to have slain, and my concubine they forced, and she is dead. 6 I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Yisra'el; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Yisra'el. 7  Behold, you children of Yisra'el, all of you, give here your advice and counsel. 8 All the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn to his house. 9 But now this is the thing which we will do to Gevah: [we will go up] against it by lot; 10 and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Yisra'el, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to get victuals for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gevah of Binyamin, according to all the folly that they have worked in Yisra'el. 11 So all the men of Yisra'el were gathered against the city, knit together as one man. 12 The tribes of Yisra'el sent men through all the tribe of Binyamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is happen among you? 13 Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, who are in Gevah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Yisra'el. But Binyamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers the children of Yisra'el. 14 The children of Binyamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gevah, to go out to battle against the children of Yisra'el. 15 The children of Binyamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gevah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men. 16 Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; everyone could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss. 17  The men of Yisra'el, besides Binyamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men who drew sword: all these were men of war. 18 The children of Yisra'el arose, and went up to Beit-El, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Binyamin? the LORD said, Yehudah [shall go up] first. 19 The children of Yisra'el rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gevah. 20 The men of Yisra'el went out to battle against Binyamin; and the men of Yisra'el set the battle in array against them at Gevah. 21 The children of Binyamin came forth out of Gevah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Yisra'elites on that day Twenty-two thousand men. 22 The people, the men of Yisra'el, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day. 23 The children of Yisra'el went up and wept before the LORD until even; and they asked of the LORD, saying, Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother? the LORD said, Go up against him. 24 The children of Yisra'el came near against the children of Binyamin the second day. 25 Binyamin went forth against them out of Gevah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Yisra'el again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword. 26 Then all the children of Yisra'el, and all the people, went up, and came to Beit-El, and wept, and sat there before the LORD, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before the LORD. 27  The children of Yisra'el asked of the LORD (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days, 28 and Pinechas, the son of El`azar, the son of Aharon, stood before it in those days), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Binyamin my brother, or shall I cease? the LORD said, Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand. 29 Yisra'el set liers-in-wait against Gevah round about. 30 The children of Yisra'el went up against the children of Binyamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gevah, as at other times. 31 The children of Binyamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Beit-El, and the other to Gevah, in the field, about thirty men of Yisra'el. 32 The children of Binyamin said, They are struck down before us, as at the first. But the children of Yisra'el said, Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways. 33 All the men of Yisra'el rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Ba`al-Tamar: and the liers-in-wait of Yisra'el broke forth out of their place, even out of Ma`areh-Geva. 34 There came over against Gevah ten thousand chosen men out of all Yisra'el, and the battle was sore; but they didn't know that evil was close on them. 35 The LORD struck Binyamin before Yisra'el; and the children of Yisra'el destroyed of Binyamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all these drew the sword. 36 So the children of Binyamin saw that they were struck; for the men of Yisra'el gave place to Binyamin, because they trusted to the liers-in-wait whom they had set against Gevah. 37  The liers-in-wait hurried, and rushed on Gevah; and the liers-in-wait drew themselves along, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword. 38 Now the appointed sign between the men of Yisra'el and the liers-in-wait was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city. 39 The men of Yisra'el turned in the battle, and Binyamin began to strike and kill of the men of Yisra'el about thirty persons; for they said, Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle. 40 But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Binyamini looked behind them; and, behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to the sky. 41 The men of Yisra'el turned, and the men of Binyamin were dismayed; for they saw that evil had come on them. 42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Yisra'el to the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst of it. 43 They enclosed the Binyamini round about, [and] chased them, [and] trod them down at [their] resting-place, as far as over against Gevah toward the sunrise. 44 There fell of Binyamin eighteen thousand men; all these [were] men of valor. 45 They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them to Gid`om, and struck of them two thousand men. 46 So that all who fell that day of Binyamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these [were] men of valor. 47 But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and abode in the rock of Rimmon four months. 48 The men of Yisra'el turned again on the children of Binyamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the cattle, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.

NEW TESTAMENT:  JOHN 3:22 - 4:3

3:22 After these things, Yeshua came with his talmidim into the land of Yehudah. He stayed there with them, and immersed. 23 Yochanan also was immersing in Einayim near Shalem, because there was much water there. They came, and were immersed. 24 For Yochanan was not yet thrown into prison. 25 There arose therefore a questioning on the part of Yochanan's talmidim with some Yehudim about purification. 26 They came to Yochanan, and said to him, "Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Yarden, to whom you have testified, behold, the same immerses, and everyone is coming to him." 27 Yochanan answered, "A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven. 28 You yourselves testify that I said, 'I am not the Messiah,' but, 'I have been sent before him.' 29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease. 31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the Eretz belongs to the Eretz, and speaks of the Eretz. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness. 33 He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true. 34 For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure. 35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. 36 One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won't see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

4:1 Therefore when the Lord knew that the Perushim had heard that Yeshua was making and immersing more talmidim than Yochanan 2 (although Yeshua himself didn't immerse, but his talmidim), 3 he left Yehudah, and departed into the Galil.

ואת עושק ישבר. 5 יראו אותך כל עוד השמש;
12 כי יציל אביון בצועק;

משמים ראה ה' את הארץ;
20 לשמע אנחות אסירים;
לשחרר נידוני מוות;
ותהילתו בירושלים;

ולא אעלה במיטתי;
ולא אתן תנומה לעפעפיי;

28 בדרך צדק חיים;

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 24:13 - 53

PSALMS: 7

1 LORD, my God, I take refuge in you.

Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me,

2 Lest they tear apart my soul like a lion,

Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3 LORD, my God, if I have done this,

If there is iniquity in my hands,

4 If I have rewarded evil to him who was at shalom with me

(Yes, I have delivered him who without cause was my adversary),

5 Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it;

Yes, let him tread my life down to the eretz,

And lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

6 Arise, LORD, in your anger.

Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries.

Awake for me. You have commanded judgment.

7 Let the congregation of the peoples surround you.

Rule over them on high.

8 The LORD administers judgment to the peoples.

Judge me, LORD, according to my righteousness,

And to my integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end,

But establish the righteous;

Their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God.

10 My shield is with God,

Who saves the upright in heart.

11 God is a righteous judge,

Yes, a God who has indignation every day.

12 If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword;

He has bent and strung his bow.

13 He has also prepared for himself the instruments of death.

He makes ready his flaming arrows.

14 Behold, he travails with iniquity;

Yes, he has conceived mischief and brought forth falsehood.

15 He has dug a hole,

And has fallen into the pit which he made.

16 The trouble he causes shall return to his own head.

His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.

17 I will give thanks to the LORD according to his righteousness,

And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Elyon.

PSALMS: 37

1 Don't fret because of evil-doers,

Neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,

And wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good.

Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Also delight yourself in the LORD,

And he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD.

Trust also in him, and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness go forth as the light,

And your justice as the noon day sun.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.

Don't fret because of him who prospers in his way,

Because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.

8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath.

Don't fret, it leads only to evildoing.

9 For evildoers shall be cut off,

But those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.

10 For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more.

Yes, though you look for his place, he isn't there.

11 But the humble shall inherit the land,

And shall delight themselves in the abundance of shalom.

12 The wicked plots against the just,

And gnashes at him with his teeth.

13 The Lord will laugh at him,

For he sees that his day is coming.

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword,

and have bent their bow,

To cast down the poor and needy,

To kill those who are upright in the way.

15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart.

Their bows shall be broken.

16 Better is a little that the righteous has,

Than the abundance of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,

But the LORD upholds the righteous.

18 The LORD knows the days of the perfect.

Their inheritance shall be forever.

19 They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil.

In the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

20 But the wicked shall perish.

The enemies of the LORD shall be like the beauty of the fields.

They will vanish -- Vanish like smoke.

21 The wicked borrow, and don't pay back,

But the righteous give generously.

22 For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land.

Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off.

23 A man's goings are established by the LORD.

He delights in his way.

24 Though he stumble, he shall not fall,

For the LORD holds him up with his hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old,

Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,

Nor his children begging for bread.

26 All day long he deals graciously, and lends.

His seed is blessed.

27 Depart from evil, and do good;

Live securely forever.

28 For the LORD loves justice,

And doesn't forsake his holy ones.

They are preserved forever,

But the children of the wicked shall be cut off.

29 The righteous shall inherit the land,

And live in it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous talks of wisdom.

His tongue speaks justice.

31 The law of his God is in his heart.

None of his steps shall slide.

32 The wicked watches the righteous,

And seeks to kill him.

33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand,

Nor condemn him when he is judged.

34 Wait for the LORD, and keep his way,

And he will exalt you to inherit the land.

When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

35 I have seen the wicked in great power,

Spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.

36 But he passed away, and, behold, he was not.

Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

37 Mark the perfect man, and see the upright,

For there is a future for the man of shalom.

38 As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together.

The future of the wicked shall be cut off.

39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD.

He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.

40 The LORD helps them, and rescues them.

He rescues them from the wicked, and saves them,

Because they have taken refuge in him.

PSALMS: 67

1 May God be merciful to us, bless us,

And cause his face to shine on us. Selah.

2 That your way may be known on eretz,

And your yeshu`ah among all nations,

3 Let the peoples praise you, God.

Let all the peoples praise you.

4 Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy,

For you will judge the peoples with equity,

And govern the nations on eretz.

Selah.

5 Let the peoples praise you, God.

Let all the peoples praise you.

6 The eretz has yielded its increase.

God, even our own God, will bless us.

7 God will bless us.

All the ends of the eretz shall fear him.

PSALMS: 97

1 The LORD reigns!

Let the eretz rejoice.

Let the multitude of islands be glad.

2 Clouds and darkness are around him.

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

3 A fire goes before him,

And burns up his adversaries on every side.

4 His lightning lights up the world;

The eretz sees, and trembles.

5 The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD,

At the presence of the Lord of the whole eretz.

6 The heavens declare his righteousness.

All the peoples have seen his glory.

7 Let all them be put to shame who serve engraved images,

Who boast in their idols.

Worship him, all you gods!

8 Tziyon heard and was glad.

The daughters of Yehudah rejoiced,

Because of your judgments, LORD.

9 For you, LORD, are most high above all the eretz.

You are exalted far above all gods.

10 You who love the LORD, hate evil.

He preserves the souls of his holy ones.

He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown for the righteous,

And gladness for the upright in heart.

12 Be glad in the LORD, you righteous people!

Give thanks to his holy Name.

PSALMS: 127

1 Unless the LORD builds the house,

They labor in vain who build it.

Unless the LORD watches over the city,

The watchman guards it in vain.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early,

To stay up late, Eating the bread of toil;

For he gives sleep to his loved ones.

3 Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD.

The fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows in the hand of a mighty man,

So are the children of youth.

5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them.

They won't be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

PROVERBS: 7

1 My son, keep my words.

Lay up my mitzvot within you.

2 Keep my mitzvot and live;

Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.

3 Bind them on your fingers.

Write them on the tablet of your heart.

4 Tell wisdom, "You are my sister."

Call understanding your relative,

5 That they may keep you from the strange woman,

From the foreigner who flatters with her words.

6 For at the window of my house,

I looked forth through my lattice.

7 I saw among the simple ones.

I discerned among the youths a young man void of understanding,

8Passing through the street near her corner,

He went the way to her house,

9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day,

In the middle of the night and in the darkness.

10 Behold, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute,

And with crafty intent.

11 She is loud and defiant.

Her feet don't stay in her house.

12 Now she is in the streets, now in the squares,

And lurking at every corner.

13 So she caught him, and kissed him.

With an impudent face she said to him:

14 "Sacrifices of peace-offerings are with me.

This day I have paid my vows.

15 Therefore I came out to meet you,

To diligently seek your face, And I have found you.

16 I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry,

With striped cloths of the yarn of Mitzrayim.

17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh,

aloes, and cinnamon.

18 Come, let's take our fill of loving until the morning.

Let's solace ourselves with loving.

19 For my husband isn't at home.

He has gone on a long journey.

20 He has taken a bag of money with him.

He will come home at the full moon."

21 With persuasive words, she led him astray.

With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him.

22 He followed her immediately,

As an ox goes to the slaughter,

As a fool stepping into a noose.

23 Until an arrow strikes through his liver,

As a bird hurries to the snare,

And doesn't know that it will cost his life.

24 Now therefore, sons, listen to me.

Pay attention to the words of my mouth.

25 Don't let your heart turn to her ways.

Don't go astray in her paths,

26 For she has thrown down many wounded.

Yes, all her slain are a mighty host.

27 Her house is the way to She'ol,

Going down to the chambers of death.

OLD TESTAMENT: JUDGES 9:22 - 10:18

9:22 Avimelekh was prince over Yisra'el three years. 23 God sent an evil spirit between Avimelekh and the men of Shekhem; and the men of Shekhem dealt treacherously with Avimelekh: 24 that the violence done to the seventy sons of Yerubba`al might come, and that their blood might be laid on Avimelekh their brother, who killed them, and on the men of Shekhem, who strengthened his hands to kill his brothers. 25 The men of Shekhem set liers-in-wait for him on the tops of the mountains, and they robbed all who came along that way by them: and it was told Avimelekh. 26 Ga`al the son of `Eved came with his brothers, and went over to Shekhem; and the men of Shekhem put their trust in him. 27 They went out into the field, and gathered their vineyards, and trod [the grapes], and held festival, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Avimelekh. 28 Ga`al the son of `Eved said, Who is Avimelekh, and who is Shekhem, that we should serve him? Isn't he the son of Yerubba`al? and Zevul his officer? serve you the men of Hamor the father of Shekhem: but why should we serve him? 29 Would that this people were under my hand! then would I remove Avimelekh. He said to Avimelekh, Increase your army, and come out. 30 When Zevul the ruler of the city heard the words of Ga`al the son of `Eved, his anger was kindled. 31 He sent messengers to Avimelekh craftily, saying, Behold, Ga`al the son of `Eved and his brothers are come to Shekhem; and, behold, they constrain the city [to take part] against you. 32 Now therefore, up by night, you and the people who are with you, and lie in wait in the field: 33 and it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, you shall rise early, and rush on the city; and, behold, when he and the people who are with him come out against you, then may you do to them as you shall find occasion. 34 Avimelekh rose up, and all the people who were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shekhem in four companies. 35 Ga`al the son of `Eved went out, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and Avimelekh rose up, and the people who were with him, from the ambush. 36 When Ga`al saw the people, he said to Zevul, Behold, there come people down from the tops of the mountains. Zevul said to him, You see the shadow of the mountains as if they were men. 37  Ga`al spoke again and said, Behold, there come people down by the middle of the land, and one company comes by the way of the oak of Me`onenim. 38 Then said Zevul to him, Where is now your mouth, that you said, Who is Avimelekh, that we should serve him? is not this the people that you have despised? go out now, I pray, and fight with them. 39 Ga`al went out before the men of Shekhem, and fought with Avimelekh. 40 Avimelekh chased him, and he fled before him, and there fell many wounded, even to the entrance of the gate. 41 Avimelekh lived at Arumah: and Zevul drove out Ga`al and his brothers, that they should not dwell in Shekhem. 42 It happened on the next day, that the people went out into the field; and they told Avimelekh. 43 He took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field; and he looked, and, behold, the people came forth out of the city; He rose up against them, and struck them. 44 Avimelekh, and the companies that were with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entrance of the gate of the city: and the two companies rushed on all who were in the field, and struck them. 45 Avimelekh fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and killed the people who were therein: and he beat down the city, and sowed it with salt. 46 When all the men of the tower of Shekhem heard of it, they entered into the stronghold of the Beit-El-Berit. 47 It was told Avimelekh that all the men of the tower of Shekhem were gathered together. 48 Avimelekh got him up to Mount Tzalmon, he and all the people who were with him; and Avimelekh took an ax in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it up, and laid it on his shoulder: and he said to the people who were with him, What you have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done. 49 All the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Avimelekh, and put them to the stronghold, and set the stronghold on fire on them; so that all the men of the tower of Shekhem died also, about a thousand men and women. 50 Then went Avimelekh to Tevetz, and encamped against Tevetz, and took it. 51 But there was a strong tower within the city, and there fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut themselves in, and got them up to the roof of the tower. 52 Avimelekh came to the tower, and fought against it, and drew near to the door of the tower to burn it with fire. 53 A certain woman cast an upper millstone on Avimelekh's head, and broke his skull. 54 Then he called hastily to the young man his armor bearer, and said to him, Draw your sword, and kill me, that men not say of me, A woman killed him. His young man thrust him through, and he died. 55 When the men of Yisra'el saw that Avimelekh was dead, they departed every man to his place. 56 Thus God requited the wickedness of Avimelekh, which he did to his father, in killing his seventy brothers; 57 and all the wickedness of the men of Shekhem did God requite on their heads: and on them came the curse of Yotam the son of Yerubba`al.

10:1 After Avimelekh there arose to save Yisra'el Tola the son of Pu`ah, the son of Dodo, a man of Yissakhar; and he lived in Shamir in the hill-country of Efrayim. 2 He judged Yisra'el twenty-three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir. 3 After him arose Ya'ir, the Gil`adite; and he judged Yisra'el twenty-two years. 4 He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkey colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvot-Ya'ir to this day, which are in the land of Gil`ad. 5 Ya'ir died, and was buried in Kamon. 6 The children of Yisra'el again did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and served the Ba`alim, and the `Ashtarot, and the gods of Aram, and the gods of Tzidon, and the gods of Mo'av, and the gods of the children of `Ammon, and the gods of the Pelishtim; and they forsook the LORD, and didn't serve him. 7 The anger of the LORD was kindled against Yisra'el, and he sold them into the hand of the Pelishtim, and into the hand of the children of `Ammon. 8 They vexed and oppressed the children of Yisra'el that year: eighteen years [oppressed they] all the children of Yisra'el that were beyond the Yarden in the land of the Amori, which is in Gil`ad. 9 The children of `Ammon passed over the Yarden to fight also against Yehudah, and against Binyamin, and against the house of Efrayim; so that Yisra'el was sore distressed. 10 The children of Yisra'el cried to the LORD, saying, We have sinned against you, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Ba`alim. 11 The LORD said to the children of Yisra'el, Didn't I save you from the Mitzrim, and from the Amori, from the children of `Ammon, and from the Pelishtim? 12 The Tzidonim also, and the `Amaleki, and the Ma`on, did oppress you; and you cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand. 13 Yet you have forsaken me, and served other gods: therefore I will save you no more. 14 Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress. 15 The children of Yisra'el said to the LORD, We have sinned: do you to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us, we pray you, this day. 16 They put away the foreign gods from among them, and served the LORD; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Yisra'el. 17  Then the children of `Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gil`ad. The children of Yisra'el assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mitzpah. 18 The people, the princes of Gil`ad, said one to another, What man is he who will begin to fight against the children of `Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gil`ad.

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 24:13 - 53

24:13 Behold, two of them were going that very day to a village named Amma'us, which was sixty stadia from Yerushalayim.

14 They talked with each other about all of these things which had happened.

15 It happened, while they talked and questioned together, that Yeshua himself came near, and went with them.

16 But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.

17  He said to them, "What are you talking about as you walk, and are sad?"

18 One of them, named Klofah, answered him, "Are you the only stranger in Yerushalayim who doesn't know the things which have happened there in these days?"

19 He said to them, "What things?" They said to him, "The things concerning Yeshua, the Natzri, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;

20 and how the chief Kohanim and our rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.

21 But we were hoping that it was he who would redeem Yisra'el. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.

22 Also, certain women of our company amazed us, having arrived early at the tomb;

23 and when they didn't find his body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that he was alive.

24 Some of us went to the tomb, and found it just like the women had said, but they didn't see him."

25 He said to them, "Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

26 Didn't the Messiah have to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory?"

27 Beginning from Moshe and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

28 They drew near to the village, where they were going, and he acted like he would go further.

29 They urged him, saying, "Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over." He went in to stay with them.

30 It happened, when he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave to them.

31 Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished out of their sight.

32 They said one to another, "Weren't our hearts burning within us, while he spoke to us along the way, and while he opened the Scriptures to us?"

33 They rose up that very hour, and returned to Yerushalayim, and found the eleven gathered together, and those who were with them,

34 saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Shim`on!"

35 They related the things that happened along the way, and how he was recognized by them in the breaking of the bread.

36 As they said these things, Yeshua himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, "Shalom be to you."

37 But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they saw a spirit.

38 He said to them, "Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?

39 See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me. Touch me and see, for a spirit doesn't have flesh and bones, as you see that I have."

40 When he had said this, he shown them his hands and his feet.

41 While they still didn't believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, "Do you have anything here to eat?"

42 They gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.

43 He took it, and ate in front of them.

44 He said to them, "This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the law of Moshe, the prophets, and the psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled."

45 Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures.

46 He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,

47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Yerushalayim.

48 You are witnesses of these things.

49 Behold, I send forth the promise of my Father on you. But wait in the city of Yerushalayim until you are clothed with power from on high."

50 He led them out as far as to Beit-Anyah, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.

51 It happened, while he blessed them, that he withdrew from them, and was carried up into heaven.

52 They worshiped him, and returned to Yerushalayim with great joy,

53 and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amein.

21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
