the LORD. A

Who
can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD

fully declare his praise?

Blessed
are they who maintain justice,
who
constantly do what is right.

Remember
me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people,
come
to my aid when you save them,
5
that
I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that
I may share in the joy of your nation
and
join your inheritance in giving praise.

We
have sinned, even as our fathers did;
we
have done wrong and acted wickedly.

When
our fathers were in Egypt,
they
gave no thought to your miracles;
they
did not remember your many kindnesses,

they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. B

Yet
he saved them for his name's sake,

make his mighty power known.

earth opened up and swallowed Dathan;
it

blazed among their followers;

flame consumed the wicked.

At
Horeb they made a calf
and
worshiped an idol cast from metal.

They
exchanged their Glory
for
an image of a bull, which eats grass.

They
forgot the God who saved them,
who
had done great things in Egypt,
22
miracles
in the land of Ham
and
awesome deeds by the Red Sea.

So
he said he would destroy them--
had
not Moses, his chosen one,
stood
in the breach before him
to
keep his wrath from destroying them.
24
Then
they despised the pleasant land;
they
did not believe his promise.
25
They
grumbled in their tents
and
did not obey the LORD.
26
So
he swore to them with uplifted hand
that
he would make them fall in the desert,
27
make
their descendants fall among the nations 7
and
scatter them throughout the lands.
28
They
yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor
and
ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;
29
they
provoked the LORD to anger by their wicked deeds,
and
a plague broke out among them.
30
But
Phinehas stood up and intervened,
and
the plague was checked.
31
This
was credited to him as righteousness
for
endless generations to come.
32
By
the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD,
and
trouble came to Moses because of them;
33
for
they rebelled against the Spirit of God,
and
rash words came from Moses' lips. C

They
did not destroy the peoples
as
the LORD had commanded them,
35
but
they mingled with the nations
and
adopted their customs.

They
worshiped their idols,
which
became a snare to them.

They
sacrificed their sons
and
their daughters to demons.

They
shed innocent blood,

blood of their sons and daughters,
whom
they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and
the land was desecrated by their blood.

They
defiled themselves by what they did;
by
their deeds they prostituted themselves.

Therefore
the LORD was angry with his people

abhorred his inheritance.

handed them over to the nations,
and
their foes ruled over them. 8

enemies oppressed them
and
subjected them to their power.

Many
times he delivered them,
but
they were bent on rebellion

they wasted away in their sin.

he took note of their distress

To man belong the plans of the heart,
but
from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.

a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but
motives are weighed by the LORD.

Commit
to the LORD whatever you do,
and
your plans will succeed.

The
LORD works out everything for his own ends--
even
the wicked for a day of disaster.

The
LORD detests all the proud of heart.
Be
sure of this: They will not go unpunished.

Through
love and faithfulness sin is atoned for;
through
the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil.

When
a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD,
he
makes even his enemies live at peace with him.

a little with righteousness

much gain with injustice.

his heart a man plans his course,

the LORD determines his steps.

lips of a king speak as an oracle,

As dead flies give perfume a bad smell,
so
a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.
2
The
heart of the wise inclines to the right,
but
the heart of the fool to the left.
3
Even
as he walks along the road,
the
fool lacks sense
and
shows everyone how stupid he is.
4
If
a ruler's anger rises against you,
do
not leave your post;
calmness
can lay great errors to rest.
5
There
is an evil I have seen under the sun,
the
sort of error that arises from a ruler:
6
Fools
are put in many high positions,
while
the rich occupy the low ones.
7
I
have seen slaves on horseback,
while
princes go on foot like slaves.
8
Whoever
digs a pit may fall into it;
whoever
breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake.
9
Whoever
quarries stones may be injured by them;
whoever
splits logs may be endangered by them.
10
If
the ax is dull
and
its edge unsharpened,
more
strength is needed
but
skill will bring success. 15

If
a snake bites before it is charmed,
there
is no profit for the charmer.

Words
from a wise man's mouth are gracious,
but
a fool is consumed by his own lips.

the beginning his words are folly;

the end they are wicked madness--

one knows what is coming--

can tell him what will happen after him?

Light
is sweet,

it pleases the eyes to see the sun.

However
many years a man may live,

him enjoy them all.
But
let him remember the days of darkness,
for
they will be many.
Everything
to come is meaningless.

Be
happy, young man, while you are young,
and
let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow
the ways of your heart
and
whatever your eyes see,
but
know that for all these things
God
will bring you to judgment.

So
then, banish anxiety from your heart
and
cast off the troubles of your body,
for
youth and vigor are meaningless. 18

Remember your Creator
in
the days of your youth,
before
the days of trouble come
and
the years approach when you will say,
"I
find no pleasure in them"--

before
the sun and the light
and
the moon and the stars grow dark,
and
the clouds return after the rain;
3
when
the keepers of the house tremble,
and
the strong men stoop,
when
the grinders cease because they are few,
and
those looking through the windows grow dim;
4
when
the doors to the street are closed
and
the sound of grinding fades;
when
men rise up at the sound of birds,
but
all their songs grow faint;
5
when
men are afraid of heights
and
of dangers in the streets;
when
the almond tree blossoms
and
the grasshopper drags himself along
and
desire no longer is stirred.
Then
man goes to his eternal home
and
mourners go about the streets.

Remember
him--before the silver cord is severed,
or
the golden bowl is broken;
before
the pitcher is shattered at the spring, 19
or
the wheel broken at the well,

and
the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and
the spirit returns to God who gave it.

"Meaningless!
Meaningless!" says the Teacher. A
"Everything
is meaningless!"

Not
only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the
people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs.

The
Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was
upright and true.

The
words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly
embedded nails--given by one Shepherd. 12
Be
warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.
Of
making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.
13
Now
all has been heard;
here
is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear
God and keep his commandments,
for
this is the whole duty of man.
14
For
God will bring every deed into judgment,
including
every hidden thing, 20
whether
it is good or evil. 21

And
now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given
the Macedonian churches. 2
Out
of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme
poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3
For
I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond
their ability. Entirely on their own, 4
they
urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service
to the saints. 5
And
they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the
Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will. 6
So
we urged Titus, since he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also
to completion this act of grace on your part. 7
But
just as you excel in everything--in faith, in speech, in knowledge,
in complete earnestness and in your love for us A--see
that you also excel in this grace of giving.
8
I
am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love
by comparing it with the earnestness of others. 9
For
you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich,
yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty
might become rich.
10
And
here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter: Last
year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire
to do so. 11
Now
finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be
matched by your completion of it, according to your means. 12
For
if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what
one has, not according to what he does not have.
13
Our
desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard
pressed, but that there might be equality. 14
At
the present time 22
your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty
will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, 15
as
it is written: "He
who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little
did not have too little."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
