JULY 22

PSALMS: 22, 52, 82, 112, 142

PROVERBS: 22

OLD TESTAMENT: JEREMIAH 16:16 - 18:23

NEW TESTAMENT: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:1 - 5:3

PSALMS: 22

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why are you so far from helping me,

and from the words of my groaning?

2 My God, I cry in the daytime, but you don't answer;

In the night season, and am not silent.

3 But you are holy,

You who inhabit the praises of Yisra'el.

4 Our fathers trusted in you.

They trusted, and you delivered them.

5 They cried to you, and were delivered.

They trusted in you, and were not put to shame.

6 But I am a worm, and no man;

A reproach of men, and despised by the people.

7 All those who see me mock me.

They insult me with their lips.

They shake their heads, saying,

8 "He trusts in the LORD; Let him deliver him;

Let him rescue him, since he delights in him."

9 But you brought me out of the womb.

You made me trust at my mother's breasts.

10 I was thrown on you from my mother's womb.

You are my God since my mother bore me.

11 Don't be far from me, for trouble is near.

For there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have surrounded me.

Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.

13 They open their mouths wide against me,

Lions tearing prey and roaring.

14 I am poured out like water.

All my bones are out of joint.

My heart is like wax;

It is melted within me.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd.

My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.

You have brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have surrounded me.

A company of evil-doers have enclosed me.

They pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I can count all of my bones.

They look and stare at me.

18 They divide my garments among them.

They cast lots for my clothing.

19 But don't be far off, LORD.

You are my help: hurry to help me.

20 Deliver my soul from the sword,

My precious life from the power of the dog.

21 Save me from the lion's mouth;

Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen you have answered me.

22 I will declare your name to my brothers.

In the midst of the assembly, will I praise you.

23 You who fear the LORD, praise him!

All you descendants of Ya`akov, glorify him!

Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Yisra'el!

24 For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted,

Neither has he hid his face from him;

But when he cried to him, he heard.

25 Of you comes my praise in the great assembly.

I will pay my vows before those who fear him.

26 The humble shall eat and be satisfied.

They shall praise the LORD who seek after him.

Let your hearts live forever.

27 All the ends of the eretz shall remember and turn to the LORD.

All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.

28 For the kingdom is the LORD's.

He is the ruler over the nations.

29 All the rich ones of the eretz shall eat and worship.

All those who go down to the dust shall bow before him,

Even he who can't keep his soul alive.

30 Posterity shall serve him.

Future generations shall be told about the Lord.

31 They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, For he has done it.

PSALMS: 52

1 Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?

God's loving kindness endures continually.

2 Your tongue plots destruction,

Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

3 You love evil more than good,

Lying rather than speaking the truth.

Selah.

4 You love all devouring words,

You deceitful tongue.

5 God will likewise destroy you forever.

He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent,

And root you out of the land of the living.

Selah.

6 The righteous also will see it, and fear,

And laugh at him, saying,

7 "Behold, this is the man who didn't make God his strength,

But trusted in the abundance of his riches,

And strengthened himself in his wickedness."

8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God's house.

I trust in God's loving kindness forever and ever.

9 I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.

I will hope in your name, for it is good,

In the presence of your holy ones.

PSALMS: 82

1 God presides in the great assembly.

He judges among the gods.

2 "How long will you judge unjustly,

And show partiality to the wicked?"

Selah.

3 "Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless.

Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.

4 Rescue the weak and needy.

Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked."

5 They don't know, neither do they understand.

They walk back and forth in darkness.

All the foundations of the eretz are shaken.

6 I said, "You are gods,

All of you are sons of Ha`Elyon.

7 Nevertheless you shall die like men,

And fall like one of the rulers."

8 Arise, God, judge the eretz,

For you inherit all of the nations.

PSALMS: 112

1 Praise the LORD!

Blessed is the man who fears the LORD,

Who delights greatly in his mitzvot.

2 His seed will be mighty on eretz.

The generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in his house.

His righteousness endures forever.

4 Light dawns in the darkness for the upright,

Gracious, merciful, and righteous.

5 It is well with the man who deals graciously and lends.

He will maintain his cause in judgment.

6 For he will never be shaken.

The righteous will be remembered forever.

7 He will not be afraid of evil news.

His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

8 His heart is established.

He will not be afraid in the end when he sees his adversaries.

9 He has dispersed, he has given to the poor.

His righteousness endures forever.

His horn will be exalted with honor.

10 The wicked will see it, and be grieved.

He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away.

The desire of the wicked will perish.

PSALMS: 142

1 I cry with my voice to the LORD.

With my voice, I ask the LORD for mercy.

2 I pour out my complaint before him.

I tell him my troubles.

3 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me,

You knew my path.

In the way in which I walk,

They have hidden a snare for me.

4 Look on my right, and see;

For there is no one who is concerned for me.

Refuge has fled from me.

No one cares for my soul.

5 I cried to you, the LORD.

I said, "You are my refuge,

My portion in the land of the living."

6 Listen to my cry,

For I am in desperate need.

Deliver me from my persecutors,

For they are stronger than me.

7 Bring my soul out of prison,

That I may give thanks to your name.

The righteous will surround me,

For you will be good to me.

PROVERBS: 22

1 A good name is more desirable than great riches;

Loving favor rather than silver and gold.

2 The rich and the poor have this in common:

The LORD is the maker of them all.

3 A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself;

But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

4 The result of humility and the fear of the LORD

Is wealth, honor, and life.

5 Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked:

Whoever guards his soul stays from them.

6 Train up a child in the way he should go,

And when he is old he will not depart from it.

7 The rich rules over the poor.

The borrower is servant to the lender.

8 He who sows wickedness reaps trouble,

And the rod of his fury will be destroyed.

9 He who has a generous eye will be blessed;

For he shares his food with the poor.

10 Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out;

Yes, quarrels and insults will stop.

11 He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully Is the king's friend.

12 The eyes of the LORD watch over knowledge;

But he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.

13 The sluggard says,

"There is a lion outside!

I will be killed in the streets!"

14 The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit:

He who is under the LORD's wrath will fall into it.

15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child:

The rod of discipline drives it far from him.

16 Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich,

Both come to poverty.

17 Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise.

Apply your heart to my teaching.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you,

If all of them are ready on your lips.

19 That your trust may be in the LORD,

I teach you today, even you.

20 Haven't I written to you thirty excellent things

Of counsel and knowledge,

21 To teach you truth, reliable words,

To give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

22 Don't exploit the poor, because he is poor;

And don't crush the needy in court;

23 For the LORD will plead their case,

And plunder the life of those who plunder them.

24 Don't befriend a hot-tempered man,

And don't associate with one who harbors anger:

25 Lest you learn his ways,

And ensnare your soul.

26 Don't you be one of those who strike hands,

Of those who are collateral for debts.

27 If you don't have means to pay,

Why should he take away your bed from under you?

28 Don't move the ancient boundary stone,

Which your fathers have set up.

29 Do you see a man skilled in his work?

He will serve kings;

He won't serve obscure men.

OLD TESTAMENT: JEREMIAH 16:16 - 18:23

16:16 Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says the LORD, and they shall fish them up; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks. 17  For my eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from my face, neither is their iniquity concealed from my eyes. 18 First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations. 19 LORD, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, to you shall the nations come from the ends of the eretz, and shall say, Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, [even] vanity and things in which there is no profit. 20 Shall a man make to himself gods, which yet are no gods? 21 Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is the LORD.

17:1 The sin of Yehudah is written with a pen of iron, [and] with the point of a diamond: it is engraved on the tablet of their heart, and on the horns of your altars; 2 while their children remember their altars and their Asherim by the green trees on the high hills. 3 My mountain in the field, I will give your substance and all your treasures for a spoil, [and] your high places, because of sin, throughout all your borders. 4 You, even of yourself, shall discontinue from your heritage that I gave you; and I will cause you to serve your enemies in the land which you don't know: for you have kindled a fire in my anger which shall burn forever. 5 Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the LORD. 6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good comes, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. 7 Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose trust the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat comes, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the mind, I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. 11 As the partridge that sits on [eggs] which she has not laid, so is he who gets riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool. 12 A glorious throne, [set] on high from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary. 13 LORD, the hope of Yisra'el, all who forsake you shall be put to shame. Those who depart from me shall be written in the eretz, because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living waters. 14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for you are my praise. 15 Behold, they tell me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now. 16 As for me, I have not hurried from being a shepherd after you; neither have I desired the woeful day; you know: that which came out of my lips was before your face. 17  Don't be a terror to me: you are my refuge in the day of evil. 18 Let them be put to shame who persecute me, but let not me be put to shame; let them be dismayed, but don't let me be dismayed; bring on them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction. 19 Thus said the LORD to me: Go, and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Yehudah come in, and by which they go out, and in all the gates of Yerushalayim; 20 and tell them, Hear you the word of the LORD, you kings of Yehudah, and all Yehudah, and all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, that enter in by these gates: 21 Thus says the LORD, Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the day of Shabbat, nor bring it in by the gates of Yerushalayim; 22 neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the day of Shabbat holy, neither do any work: but make the day of Shabbat, as I commanded your fathers. 23 But they didn't listen, neither turn their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, and might not receive instruction. 24 It shall happen, if you diligently listen to me, says the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the day of Shabbat, but to make the day of Shabbat holy, to do no work therein; 25 then shall there enter in by the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Yehudah, and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim; and this city shall remain forever. 26 They shall come from the cities of Yehudah, and from the places round about Yerushalayim, and from the land of Binyamin, and from the lowland, and from the hill-country, and from the South, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meal-offerings, and frankincense, and bringing [sacrifices of] thanksgiving, to the house of the LORD. 27  But if you will not listen to me to make the day of Shabbat holy, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Yerushalayim on the day of Shabbat; then will I kindle a fire in the gates of it, and it shall devour the palaces of Yerushalayim, and it shall not be quenched.

18:1 The word which came to Yirmeyahu from the LORD, saying, 2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he was making a work on the wheels. 4 When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.  5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 House of Yisra'el, can't I do with you as this potter? says the LORD. Behold, as the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, house of Yisra'el. 7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it; 8 if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.

9 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them. 11 Now therefore, speak to the men of Yehudah, and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, saying, Thus says the LORD: Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return you now everyone from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings. 12 But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do everyone after the stubbornness of his evil heart. 13 Therefore thus says the LORD: Ask you now among the nations, who has heard such things; the virgin of Yisra'el has done a very horrible thing. 14 Shall the snow of Levanon fail from the rock of the field? [or] shall the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up? 15 For my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to false [gods]; and they have been made to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up; 16 to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head. 17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity. 18 Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Yirmeyahu; for the law shall not perish from the Kohen, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words. 19 Give heed to me, LORD, and listen to the voice of those who contend with me. 20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them. 21 Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives become childless, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, [and] their young men struck of the sword in battle. 22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when you shall bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. 23 Yet, LORD, you know all their counsel against me to kill me; don't forgive their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from your sight; but let them be overthrown before you; deal you with them in the time of your anger.

NEW TESTAMENT: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:1 - 5:3

4:1 Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Yeshua, that, as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, -- that you abound more and more. 2 For you know what charge we gave you through the Lord Yeshua. 3 For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, 4 that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Goyim who don't know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and wrong a brother or sister in this matter; because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. 7  For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. 8 Therefore he who rejects, doesn't reject man, but God, who has also given his Ruach HaKodesh to you. 9 But concerning brotherly love, you have no need that one write to you. For you yourselves are taught by God to love one another, 10 for indeed you do it toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, that you abound more and more; 11and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we charged you; 12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing. 13 But we don't want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don't grieve like the rest, who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Yeshua died and rose again, even so those who have fallen asleep in Yeshua will God bring with him. 15 For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left to the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the chief angel, and with God's shofar. The dead in Messiah will rise first, 17 then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need that anything be written to you. 2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. 3 For when they are saying, "Shalom and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
