PSALMS: 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd:
I shall lack nothing.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me.
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You have anointed my head with oil.
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in the LORD's house forever.
PSALMS: 53
1 The fool has said in his heart,
"There is no God."
They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity.
There is no one who does good.
2 God looks down from heaven on the children of men,
To see if there are any who understood, Who seek after God.
3 Every one of them has gone back.
They have become filthy together.
There is no one who does good, no, not one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And don't call on God?
5 There they were in great fear, where no fear was,
For God has scattered the bones of him who encamps against you.
You have put them to shame,
Because God has rejected them.
6 Oh that the yeshu`ah of Yisra'el would come out of Tziyon!
When God brings back the captivity of his people,
Then shall Ya`akov rejoice.
Yisra'el shall be glad.
2 For, behold, your enemies are stirred up.
Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.
3 They conspire with cunning against your people.
They plot against your cherished ones.
4 "Come," they say, "and let us destroy them as a nation,
That the name of Yisra'el may be remembered no more."
5 For they have conspired together with one mind.
They form an alliance against you.
6 The tents of Edom and the Yishme`elim;
Mo'av, and the Hagrim;
7 Geval, `Ammon, and `Amalek;
Peleshet with the inhabitants of Tzor;
8 Ashshur also is joined with them.
They have helped the children of Lot.
Selah.
9 Do to them as you did to Midyan,
As to Sisera, as to Yavin, at the river Kishon;
10 Who perished at `En-Dor,
Who became as dung for the eretz.
11 Make their nobles like `Orev and Ze'ev;
Yes, all their princes like Zevach and Tzalmunnah;
12 Who said, "Let us take possession
Of God's pasturelands."
13 My God, make them like tumbleweed;
Like chaff before the wind.
14 As the fire that burns the forest,
As the flame that sets the mountains on fire,
15 So pursue them with your tempest,
Terrify them with your storm.
16 Fill their faces with confusion,
That they may seek your name, LORD.
17 Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever.
Yes, let them be confounded and perish;
18 That they may know that you alone, whose name is the LORD,
Are Ha`Elyon over all the eretz.
2 Blessed be the name of the LORD,
From this time forth and forevermore.
3 From the rising of the sun to the going down of the same,
The LORD's name is to be praised.
4 The LORD is high above all nations,
His glory above the heavens.
5 Who is like the LORD, our God,
Who has his seat on high,
6 Who stoops down to see in heaven and in the eretz?
7 He raises up the poor out of the dust.
Lifts up the needy from the ash heap;
8 That he may set him with princes,
Even with the princes of his people.
9 He settles the barren woman in her home,
As a joyful mother of children.
Praise the LORD!
PSALMS: 143
Listen to my petitions.
In your faithfulness and righteousness, relieve me.
2 Don't enter into judgment with your servant,
For in your sight no man living is righteous.
3 For the enemy pursues my soul.
He has struck my life down to the ground.
He has made me live in dark places,
as those who have been long dead.
4 Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me.
My heart within me is desolate.
5 I remember the days of old.
I meditate on all your doings.
I contemplate the work of your hands.
6 I spread forth my hands to you.
My soul thirsts for you, like a parched land.
Selah.
7 Hurry to answer me, LORD.
My spirit fails.
Don't hide your face from me,
So that I don't become like those who go down into the pit.
8 Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning,
For I trust in you.
Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,
For I lift up my soul to you.
9 Deliver me, LORD, from my enemies.
I flee to you to hide me.
10 Teach me to do your will,
For you are my God.
Your Spirit is good.
Lead me in the land of uprightness.
11 Revive me, LORD, for your name's sake.
In your righteousness, bring my soul out of trouble.
12 In your loving kindness, cut off my enemies,
And destroy all those who afflict my soul,
For I am your servant.
2 Put a knife to your throat,
If you are a man given to appetite.
3 Don't be desirous of his dainties,
Seeing they are deceitful food.
4 Don't weary yourself to be rich.
In your wisdom, show restraint
5 Why do you set your eyes on that which is not?
For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.
6 Don't eat the food of him who has a stingy eye,
And don't crave his delicacies:
7 For as he thinks about the cost, so he is.
"Eat and drink!" he says to you,
But his heart is not with you.
8 The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up,
And lose your good words.
9 Don't speak in the ears of a fool,
For he will despise the wisdom of your words.
10 Don't move the ancient boundary stone.
Don't encroach on the fields of the fatherless:
11 For their Defender is strong.
He will plead their case against you.
12 Apply your heart to instruction,
And your ears to the words of knowledge.
13 Don't withhold correction from a child.
If you punish him with the rod, he will not die.
14 Punish him with the rod,
And save his soul from She'ol
15 My son, if your heart is wise,
Then my heart will be glad, even mine:
16 Yes, my heart will rejoice,
When your lips speak what is right.
17 Don't let your heart envy sinners;
But rather fear the LORD all the day long.
18 Indeed surely there is a future hope,
And your hope will not be cut off.
19 Listen, my son, and be wise,
And keep your heart on the right path
20 Don't be among ones drinking too much wine,
Or those who gorge themselves on meat:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor;
And drowsiness clothes them in rags
22 Listen to your father who gave you life,
And don't despise your mother when she is old.
23 Buy the truth, and don't sell it:
Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.
24 The father of the righteous has great joy.
Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.
25 Let your father and your mother be glad!
Let her who bore you rejoice!
26 My son, give me your heart;
And let your eyes keep in my ways.
27 For a prostitute is a deep pit;
And a wayward wife is a narrow well.
28 Yes, she lies in wait like a robber,
And increases the unfaithful among men.
29 Who has woe?
Who has sorrow?
Who has strife?
Who has complaints?
Who has needless bruises?
Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 Those who stay long at the wine;
Those who go to seek out mixed wine.
31 Don't look at the wine when it is red,
When it sparkles in the cup,
When it goes down smoothly:
32 At the last it bites like a snake,
And poisons like a viper.
33 Your eyes will see strange things,
And your mind will imagine confusing things.
34 Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the midst of the sea,
Or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
35 "They hit me, and I was not hurt;
They beat me, and I don't feel it!
When will I wake up?
I can do it again.
I can find another."
OLD TESTAMENT: GENESIS 26:17 - 27:46
26:17 Yitzchak departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there. 18 Yitzchak dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Avraham his father. For the Pelishtim had stopped them after the death of Avraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them. 19 Yitzchak's servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water. 20 The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Yitzchak's herdsmen, saying, "The water is ours." He called the name of the well `Esek, because they contended with him. 21 They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called the name of it Sitnah. 22 He left that place, and dug another well. They didn't argue over that one. He called it Rechovot. He said, "For now the LORD has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land." 23 He went up from there to Be'er-Sheva. 24 The LORD appeared to him the same night, and said, "I am the God of Avraham your father. Don't be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Avraham's sake." 25 He built an altar there, and called on the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there. There Yitzchak's servants dug a well. 26 Then Avimelekh went to him from Gerar, and Achuzzat his friend, and Pikhol the captain of his host. 27 Yitzchak said to them, "Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?" 28 They said, "We saw plainly that the LORD was with you. We said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you, 29 that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in shalom.' You are now the blessed of the LORD." 30 He made them a feast, and they ate and drink. 31 They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Yitzchak sent them away, and they departed from him in shalom. 32 It happened the same day, that Yitzchak's servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, "We have found water." 33 He called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Be'er-Sheva to this day. 34 When Esav was forty years old, he took as wife Yehudit, the daughter of Be'eri the Hittite, and Basemat, the daughter of Elon the Hittite. 35 They grieved Yitzchak and Rivka's spirits.
27:1 It happened, that when Yitzchak was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esav his elder son, and said to him, "My son?" He said to him, "Here I am." 2 He said, "See now, I am old. I don't know the day of my death. 3 Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me venison. 4 Make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat, and that my soul may bless you before I die. 5 Rivka heard when Yitzchak spoke to Esav his son. Esav went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. 6 Rivka spoke to Ya`akov her son, saying, "Behold, I heard your father speak to Esav your brother, saying, 7 'Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you before the LORD before my death.' 8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you. 9 Go now to the flock, and get me from there two good kids of the goats. I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves. 10 You shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, so that he may bless you before his death."11 Ya`akov said to Rivka his mother, "Behold, Esav my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man. 12 What if my father touches me? I will seem to him as a deceiver, and I would bring a curse on myself, and not a blessing." 13 His mother said to him, "Let your curse be on me, my son. Only obey my voice, and go get them for me." 14 He went, and got them, and brought them to his mother. His mother made savory food, such as his father loved. 15 Rivka took the good clothes of Esav, her elder son, which were with her in the house, and put them on Ya`akov, her younger son. 16 She put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands, and on the smooth of his neck. 17 She gave the savory food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Ya`akov.18 He came to his father, and said, "My father?" He said, "Here I am. Who are you, my son?" 19 Ya`akov said to his father, "I am Esav your firstborn. I have done what you asked me to do. Please arise, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me." 20 Yitzchak said to his son, "How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?" He said, "Because the LORD your God gave me success." 21 Yitzchak said to Ya`akov, "Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esav or not." 22 Ya`akov went near to Yitzchak his father. He felt him, and said, "The voice is Ya`akov's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esav." 23 He didn't recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother, Esav's hands. So he blessed him. 24 He said, "Are you really my son Esav?" He said, "I am." 25 He said, "Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you." He brought it near to him, and he ate. He brought him wine, and he drank. 26 His father Yitzchak said to him, "Come near now, and kiss me, my son." 27 He came near, and kissed him. He smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him, and said, "Behold, the smell of my son Is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed. 28 God give you of the dew of the sky, of the fatness of the eretz, and plenty of grain and new wine. 29 Let peoples serve you, Nations bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, Let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, Blessed be everyone who blesses you." 30 It happened, as soon as Yitzchak had made an end of blessing Ya`akov, and Ya`akov had just gone out from the presence of Yitzchak his father, that Esav his brother came in from his hunting. 31 He also made savory food, and brought it to his father. He said to his father, "Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me." 32 Yitzchak his father said to him, "Who are you?" He said, "I am your son, your firstborn, Esav." 33 Yitzchak trembled violently, and said, "Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed." 34 When Esav heard the words of his father, he cried with an exceeding great and bitter cry, and said to his father, "Bless me, even me also, my father." 35 He said, "Your brother came with deceit, and has taken away your blessing." 36 He said, "Isn't he rightly named Ya`akov? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing." He said, "Haven't you reserved a blessing for me?" 37 Yitzchak answered Esav, "Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brothers have I given to him for servants. With grain and new wine have I sustained him. What then will I do for you, my son?" 38 Esav said to his father, "Have you but one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, my father." Esav lifted up his voice, and wept. 39 Yitzchak his father answered him, "Behold, of the fatness of the eretz will be your dwelling, and of the dew of the sky from above. 40 By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, That you shall shake his yoke from off your neck." 41 Esav hated Ya`akov because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esav said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Ya`akov." 42 The words of Esav, her elder son, were told to Rivka. She sent and called Ya`akov her younger son, and said to him, "Behold, your brother Esav comforts himself about you by planning to kill you. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Lavan, my brother, in Haran. 44 Stay with him a few days, until your brother's fury turns away; 45 until your brother's anger turn away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him. Then I will send, and get you from there. Why should I be bereaved of you both in one day?" 46 Rivka said to Yitzchak, "I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Het. If Ya`akov takes a wife of the daughters of Het, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?"
NEW TESTAMENT: MATTHEW 9:1 - 17
9:1 He entered into a boat, and crossed over, and came into his own city.
2 Behold, they brought to him a man who was paralyzed, lying on a bed. Yeshua, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, "Son, cheer up! Your sins are forgiven you."
3 Behold, some of the Sofrim said to themselves, "This man blasphemes."
4 Yeshua, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?
5 For which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven;' or to say, 'Get up, and walk?'
6 But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on eretz to forgive sins..." (then he said to the paralytic), "Get up, and take up your mat, and go up to your house."
7 He arose and departed to his house.
8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
9 As Yeshua passed by from there, he saw a man called Mattityahu sitting at the tax collection office. He said to him, "Follow me." He got up and followed him.
10It happened as he reclined in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and reclined with Yeshua and his talmidim.
11 When the Perushim saw it, they said to his talmidim, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
12 When Yeshua heard it, he said to them, "Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick do.
13 But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
14 Then Yochanan's talmidim came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Perushim fast often, but your talmidim don't fast?"
15 Yeshua said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made.
17 Neither do people put new wine into old wineskins, or else the skins would burst, and the wine be spilled, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."
