For
the director of music. Of David.
1
In
the LORD I take refuge.
How
then can you say to me:
"Flee like a bird to your
mountain.
2 For
look, the wicked bend their bows;
they
set their arrows against the strings
to
shoot from the shadows
at
the upright in heart.
3 When
the foundations are being destroyed,
what
can the righteous do A?"
4
The
LORD is in his holy temple;
the
LORD is on his heavenly throne.
He
observes the sons of men;
his
eyes examine them.
5
The
LORD examines the righteous,
but
the wicked B and those who love violence
his
soul hates.
6
On
the wicked he will rain
fiery
coals and burning sulfur;
a
scorching wind will be their lot.
7
For
the LORD is righteous,
he
loves justice;
upright
men will see his face. [1]
PSALMS: 41
For
the director of music. A psalm of David.
1
Blessed
is he who has regard for the weak;
the
LORD delivers him in times of trouble.
2
The
LORD will protect him and preserve his life;
he
will bless him in the land
and
not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
3
The
LORD will sustain him on his sickbed
and
restore him from his bed of illness.
4
I
said, "O LORD, have mercy on me;
heal
me, for I have sinned against you."
5
My
enemies say of me in malice,
"When
will he die and his name perish?"
6
Whenever
one comes to see me,
he
speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander;
then
he goes out and spreads it abroad.
7
All
my enemies whisper together against me;
they
imagine the worst for me, saying,
8
"A
vile disease has beset him;
he
will never get up from the place where he lies."
9
Even
my close friend, whom I trusted,
he
who shared my bread,
has
lifted up his heel against me. [2]
10
But
you, O LORD, have mercy on me;
raise
me up, that I may repay them.
11
I
know that you are pleased with me,
for
my enemy does not triumph over me.
12
In
my integrity you uphold me
and
set me in your presence forever.
13
Praise
be to the LORD, the God of Israel,
from
everlasting to everlasting.
Amen
and Amen [3]
PSALMS: 71
1
In
you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
let
me never be put to shame.
2
Rescue
me and deliver me in your righteousness;
turn
your ear to me and save me.
3
Be
my rock of refuge,
to
which I can always go;
give
the command to save me,
for
you are my rock and my fortress.
4
Deliver
me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from
the grasp of evil and cruel men.
5
For
you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD,
my
confidence since my youth.
6
From
birth I have relied on you;
you
brought me forth from my mother's womb.
I
will ever praise you.
7
I
have become like a portent to many,
but
you are my strong refuge.
8
My
mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring
your splendor all day long.
9
Do
not cast me away when I am old;
do
not forsake me when my strength is gone.
10
For
my enemies speak against me;
those
who wait to kill me conspire together.
11
They
say, "God has forsaken him;
pursue
him and seize him,
for
no one will rescue him."
12
Be
not far from me, O God;
come
quickly, O my God, to help me.
13
May
my accusers perish in shame;
may
those who want to harm me
be
covered with scorn and disgrace. [4]
14
But
as for me, I will always have hope;
I
will praise you more and more.
15
My
mouth will tell of your righteousness,
of
your salvation all day long,
though
I know not its measure.
16
I
will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD;
I
will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone.
17
Since
my youth, O God, you have taught me,
and
to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
18
Even
when I am old and gray,
do
not forsake me, O God,
till
I declare your power to the next generation,
your
might to all who are to come.
19
Your
righteousness reaches to the skies, O God,
you
who have done great things.
Who,
O God, is like you?
20
Though
you have made me see troubles, many and bitter,
you
will restore my life again;
from
the depths of the earth
you
will again bring me up.
21
You
will increase my honor
and
comfort me once again.
22
I
will praise you with the harp
for
your faithfulness, O my God;
I
will sing praise to you with the lyre,
O
Holy One of Israel.
23
My
lips will shout for joy
when
I sing praise to you--
I,
whom you have redeemed.
24
My
tongue will tell of your righteous acts [5]
all
day long,
for
those who wanted to harm me
have
been put to shame and confusion. [6]
PSALMS: 101
Of
David. A psalm.
1
I
will sing of your love and justice;
to
you, O LORD, I will sing praise.
2
I
will be careful to lead a blameless life--
when
will you come to me?
I
will walk in my house
with
blameless heart.
3
I
will set before my eyes
no
vile thing.
The
deeds of faithless men I hate;
they
will not cling to me.
4
Men
of perverse heart shall be far from me;
I
will have nothing to do with evil.
5
Whoever
slanders his neighbor in secret,
him
will I put to silence;
whoever
has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
him
will I not endure.
6
My
eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
that
they may dwell with me;
he
whose walk is blameless
will
minister to me.[7]
7
No
one who practices deceit
will
dwell in my house;
no
one who speaks falsely
will
stand in my presence.
8
Every
morning I will put to silence
all
the wicked in the land;
I
will cut off every evildoer
from
the city of the LORD. [8]
PSALMS: 131
A
song of ascents. Of David.
1
My
heart is not proud, O LORD,
my
eyes are not haughty;
I
do not concern myself with great matters
or
things too wonderful for me.
2
But
I have stilled and quieted my soul;
like
a weaned child with its mother,
like
a weaned child is my soul within me.
3
O
Israel, put your hope in the LORD
both
now and forevermore. [9]
PROVERBS: 11
11
1
The LORD abhors dishonest scales,
but
accurate weights are his delight.
2
When
pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but
with humility comes wisdom.
3
The
integrity of the upright guides them,
but
the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.
4
Wealth
is worthless in the day of wrath,
but
righteousness delivers from death.
5
The righteousness of the blameless makes a straight way for
them,
but
the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.
6
The
righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but
the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires.
7
When
a wicked man dies, his hope perishes;
all
he expected from his power comes to nothing.
8
The
righteous man is rescued from trouble,
and
it comes on the wicked instead.
9
With
his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor,
but
through knowledge the righteous escape.
10
When
the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
when
the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
11
Through
the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but
by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.[10]
12
A
man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor,
but
a man of understanding holds his tongue.
13
A
gossip betrays a confidence,
but
a trustworthy man keeps a secret.
14
For
lack of guidance a nation falls,
but
many advisers make victory sure.
15
He
who puts up security for another will surely suffer,
but
whoever refuses to strike hands in pledge is safe.
16
A
kindhearted woman gains respect,
but
ruthless men gain only wealth.
17
A
kind man benefits himself,
but
a cruel man brings trouble on himself.
18
The
wicked man earns deceptive wages,
but
he who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward.
19
The
truly righteous man attains life,
but
he who pursues evil goes to his death.
20
The
LORD detests men of perverse heart
but
he delights in those whose ways are blameless.
21
Be
sure of this: The wicked will not go unpunished,
but
those who are righteous will go free. [11]
22
Like
a gold ring in a pig's snout
is
a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.
23
The
desire of the righteous ends only in good,
but
the hope of the wicked only in wrath.
24
One
man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another
withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25
A
generous man will prosper;
he
who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.
26
People
curse the man who hoards grain,
but
blessing crowns him who is willing to sell.
27
He
who seeks good finds goodwill,
but
evil comes to him who searches for it.
28
Whoever
trusts in his riches will fall,
but
the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
29
He
who brings trouble on his family will inherit only wind,
and
the fool will be servant to the wise.
30
The
fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
and
he who wins souls is wise.
31
If
the righteous receive their due on earth,
how
much more the ungodly and the sinner! [12]
OLD
TESTAMENT: EXODUS 12:14 - 13:16
14
"This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to
come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD--a lasting ordinance.
15 For seven days you are to eat
bread made without yeast. On the first day remove the yeast from your houses,
for whoever eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the
seventh must be cut off from Israel. 16 On the first day hold a sacred assembly, and another one on
the seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare food for
everyone to eat--that is all you may do.
17
"Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because it was on
this very day that I brought your divisions out of Egypt. Celebrate this day as
a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. 18 In the first month you are to eat bread made without yeast,
from the evening of the fourteenth day until the evening of the twenty-first
day. 19 For seven days no yeast is
to be found in your houses. And whoever eats anything with yeast in it must be
cut off from the community of Israel, whether he is an alien or native-born.
20 Eat nothing made with yeast.
Wherever you live, you must eat unleavened bread."
21
Then
Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Go at once and select
the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. 22
Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of
the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. Not one of you shall go
out the door of his house until morning. 23 When the LORD goes
through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top
and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not
permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
24
"Obey
these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants.
25
When
you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, observe this
ceremony. 26 And when your children ask you, `What does this ceremony
mean to you?' 27 then tell them, `It is the Passover sacrifice to the
LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes
when he struck down the Egyptians.'" Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
28
The
Israelites did just what the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron.
29
At
midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of
Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the
dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. 30 Pharaoh
and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there
was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.
31
During
the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Up! Leave my people, you
and the Israelites! Go, worship the LORD as you have requested. 32
Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me."
33
The
Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. "For otherwise," they
said, "we will all die!" 34 So the people took their dough before the
yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped
in clothing. 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the
Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. 36 The
LORD had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave
them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians. [13]
37
The
Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred
thousand men on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other
people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and
herds. 39 With the dough they had brought from Egypt, they baked
cakes of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been
driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
40
Now
the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt B was 430
years. 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the
LORD's divisions left Egypt. 42 Because the LORD kept vigil that
night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep
vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come.
43
The
LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "These are the
regulations for the Passover:
"No
foreigner is to eat of it. 44
Any slave you have bought may eat of it after you have circumcised him,
45
but a temporary resident and a hired worker may not eat of it.
46
"It must be eaten inside one house; take none of the meat
outside the house. Do not break any of the bones. 47 The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
48
"An alien living among you who wants to celebrate the LORD's
Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take
part like one born in the land. No uncircumcised male may eat of it.
49 The same law applies to the
native-born and to the alien living among you."
50
All
the Israelites did just what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron. 51
And on that very day the LORD brought the Israelites out of Egypt by their
divisions.
13
1
The
LORD said to Moses, 2 "Consecrate to me
every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites
belongs to me, whether man or animal."
3
Then
Moses said to the people, "Commemorate this day, the day you came out of Egypt,
out of the land of slavery, because the LORD brought you out of it with a mighty
hand. Eat nothing containing yeast. 4 Today, in the month of Abib,
you are leaving.
5
When
the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites
and Jebusites--the land he swore to your forefathers to give you, a land flowing
with [14]
milk and honey--you are to observe this ceremony in this month: 6 For
seven days eat bread made without yeast and on the seventh day hold a festival
to the LORD. 7 Eat unleavened bread during those seven days; nothing
with yeast in it is to be seen among you, nor shall any yeast be seen anywhere
within your borders. 8 On that day tell your son, `I do this because of what the LORD did for me when I came
out of Egypt.' 9 This observance will be for you like a sign
on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the law of the LORD is to be
on your lips. For the LORD brought you out of Egypt with his mighty hand.
10 You must keep this ordinance at the appointed time year after
year.
11
"After
the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and gives it to you, as he
promised on oath to you and your forefathers, 12 you are to give over
to the LORD the first offspring of every womb. All the firstborn males of your
livestock belong to the LORD.
13
Redeem
with a lamb every firstborn donkey, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck.
Redeem every firstborn among your sons.
14
"In
days to come, when your son asks you, `What does this mean?' say to him, `With a
mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed
every firstborn in Egypt, both man and animal. This is why I sacrifice to the
LORD the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn
sons.' 16 And it will be like a sign on your hand and a symbol on
your forehead that the LORD brought us out of Egypt with his mighty hand." [15]
NEW
TESTAMENT: MATTHEW 20:19 -
21:22
Son
of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They
will condemn him to death 19
and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified.
On the third day he will be raised to life!"
20
Then
the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down,
asked a favor of him.
21
"What
is it you want?" he asked.
She
said, "Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the
other at your left in your kingdom."
22
"You don't know what you are asking," Jesus said to
them. "Can you drink the cup I am going to
drink?"
"We
can," they answered.
23
Jesus
said to them, "You will indeed drink from my cup, but
to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those
for whom they have been prepared by my Father."
24
When
the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. 25
Jesus called them together and said, "You know
that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials
exercise authority over them. 26 Not
so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your
servant, 27 and whoever wants to be
first must be your slave—28 just as
the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as
a ransom for many."
29
As
Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.
30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard
that Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
31
The
crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder,
"Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
32
Jesus
stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do
for you?" he asked.
33
"Lord,"
they answered, "we want our sight."
34
Jesus
had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their
sight and followed him.
21
1
As
they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus
sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, "Go
to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with
her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord
needs them, and he will send them right away." [16]
4
This
took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
5
"Say to the Daughter of Zion,
`See,
your king comes to you,
gentle
and riding on a donkey,
on
a colt, the foal of a donkey.'"
A
6
The
disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought
the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them.
8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others
cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds
that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
"Hosanna
B to the Son of David!"
"Blessed
is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" C
"Hosanna
D in the highest!"
10
When
Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, "Who is this?"
11
The
crowds answered, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee."
12
Jesus
entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He
overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling
doves. 13 "It is written," he said
to them, "`My house will be called a house of
prayer,' E but you are making it a
`den of robbers.' F"
14
The
blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. 15
But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful
things he did and the children shouting in the temple area, "Hosanna to the Son
of David," they were indignant. [17]
16
"Do
you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him.
"Yes," replied Jesus, "have
you never read,
"`From
the lips of children and infants
you
have ordained praise' G?"
17
And
he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
18
Early
in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19
Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it
except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear
fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.
20
When
the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so
quickly?" they asked.
21
Jesus
replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and
do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you
can say to this mountain, `Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be
done. 22 If you believe, you will
receive whatever you ask for in prayer." [18]

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
