ForA
the director of music. To the tune of "The Death of the Son." A psalm of
David.
1
I
will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;
I
will tell of all your wonders.
2
I
will be glad and rejoice in you;
I
will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
3
My
enemies turn back;
they
stumble and perish before you.
4
For
you have upheld my right and my cause;
you
have sat on your throne, judging righteously.
5
You
have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;
you
have blotted out their name for ever and ever.
6
Endless
ruin has overtaken the enemy,
you
have uprooted their cities;
even
the memory of them has perished.
7
The
LORD reigns forever;
he
has established his throne for judgment.
8
He
will judge the world in righteousness;
he
will govern the peoples with justice.
9
The
LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,
a
stronghold in times of trouble.
10
Those
who know your name will trust in you,
for
you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
11
Sing
praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion;
proclaim
among the nations what he has done.
12
For
he who avenges blood remembers;
he
does not ignore the cry of the afflicted. [1]
13
O
LORD, see how my enemies persecute me!
Have
mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
14
that
I may declare your praises
in
the gates of the Daughter of Zion
and
there rejoice in your salvation.
15
The
nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;
their
feet are caught in the net they have hidden.
16
The
LORD is known by his justice;
the
wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.
Higgaion.

17
The
wicked return to the grave, C
all
the nations that forget God.
18
But
the needy will not always be forgotten,
nor
the hope of the afflicted ever perish.
19
Arise,
O LORD, let not man triumph;
let
the nations be judged in your presence.
20
Strike
them with terror, O LORD;
let
the nations know they are but men.
PSALMS: 39
For
the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David.
1
I
said, "I will watch my ways
and
keep my tongue from sin;
I
will put a muzzle on my mouth
as
long as the wicked are in my presence."
2
But
when I was silent and still,
not
even saying anything good,
my
anguish increased.
3
My
heart grew hot within me,
and
as I meditated, the fire burned;
then
I spoke with my tongue:
4
"Show
me, O LORD, my life's end
and
the number of my days;
let
me know how fleeting is my life.
5
You
have made my days a mere handbreadth;
the
span of my years is as nothing before you.
Each
man's life is but a breath.
Selah
6
Man
is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro:
He
bustles about, but only in vain;
he
heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
7
"But
now, Lord, what do I look for?
My
hope is in you.
8
Save
me from all my transgressions;
do
not make me the scorn of fools.
9
I
was silent; I would not open my mouth, [3]
for
you are the one who has done this.
10
Remove
your scourge from me;
I
am overcome by the blow of your hand.
11
You
rebuke and discipline men for their sin;
you
consume their wealth like a moth--
each
man is but a breath.
Selah
12
"Hear
my prayer, O LORD,
listen
to my cry for help;
be
not deaf to my weeping.
For
I dwell with you as an alien,
a
stranger, as all my fathers were.
13
Look
away from me, that I may rejoice again
before
I depart and am no more." [4]
PSALMS: 69
For
the director of music. To the tune of "Lilies." Of David.
1
Save
me, O God,
for
the waters have come up to my neck.
2
I
sink in the miry depths,
where
there is no foothold.
I
have come into the deep waters;
the
floods engulf me.
3
I
am worn out calling for help;
my
throat is parched.
My
eyes fail,
looking
for my God.
4
Those
who hate me without reason
outnumber
the hairs of my head;
many
are my enemies without cause,
those
who seek to destroy me.
I
am forced to restore
what
I did not steal.
5
You
know my folly, O God;
my
guilt is not hidden from you.
6
May
those who hope in you
not
be disgraced because of me,
O
Lord, the LORD Almighty;
may
those who seek you
not
be put to shame because of me,
O
God of Israel.
7
For
I endure scorn for your sake,
and
shame covers my face.
8
I
am a stranger to my brothers, [5]
an
alien to my own mother's sons;
9
for
zeal for your house consumes me,
and
the insults of those who insult you fall on me.
10
When
I weep and fast,
I
must endure scorn;
11
when
I put on sackcloth,
people
make sport of me.
12
Those
who sit at the gate mock me,
and
I am the song of the drunkards.
13
But
I pray to you, O LORD,
in
the time of your favor;
in
your great love, O God,
answer
me with your sure salvation.
14
Rescue
me from the mire,
do
not let me sink;
deliver
me from those who hate me,
from
the deep waters.
15
Do
not let the floodwaters engulf me
or
the depths swallow me up
or
the pit close its mouth over me.
16
Answer
me, O LORD, out of the goodness of your love;
in
your great mercy turn to me.
17
Do
not hide your face from your servant;
answer
me quickly, for I am in trouble.
18
Come
near and rescue me;
redeem
me because of my foes.
19
You
know how I am scorned, disgraced and shamed;
all
my enemies are before you.
20
Scorn
has broken my heart [6]
and
has left me helpless;
I
looked for sympathy, but there was none,
for
comforters, but I found none.
21
They
put gall in my food
and
gave me vinegar for my thirst.
22
May
the table set before them become a snare;
may
it become retribution and A a trap.
23
May
their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,
and
their backs be bent forever.
24
Pour
out your wrath on them;
let
your fierce anger overtake them.
25
May
their place be deserted;
let
there be no one to dwell in their tents.
26
For
they persecute those you wound
and
talk about the pain of those you hurt.
27
Charge
them with crime upon crime;
do
not let them share in your salvation.
28
May
they be blotted out of the book of life
and
not be listed with the righteous.
29
I
am in pain and distress;
may
your salvation, O God, protect me.
30
I
will praise God's name in song
and
glorify him with thanksgiving.
31
This
will please the LORD more than an ox,
more
than a bull with its horns and hoofs.
32
The
poor will see and be glad--
you
who seek God, may your hearts live!
33
The
LORD hears the needy
and
does not despise his captive people. [7]
34
Let
heaven and earth praise him,
the
seas and all that move in them,
35
for
God will save Zion
and
rebuild the cities of Judah.
Then
people will settle there and possess it;
36
the
children of his servants will inherit it,
and
those who love his name will dwell there. [8]
PSALMS: 99
1
The
LORD reigns,
let
the nations tremble;
he
sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let
the earth shake.
2
Great
is the LORD in Zion;
he
is exalted over all the nations.
3
Let
them praise your great and awesome name--
he
is holy.
4
The
King is mighty, he loves justice--
you
have established equity;
in
Jacob you have done
what
is just and right.
5
Exalt
the LORD our God
and
worship at his footstool;
he
is holy.
6
Moses
and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel
was among those who called on his name;
they
called on the LORD
and
he answered them.
7
He
spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
they
kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.
8
O
LORD our God,
you
answered them;
you
were to Israel A a forgiving God,
though
you punished their misdeeds. B
9
Exalt
the LORD our God
and
worship at his holy mountain,
for
the LORD our God is holy. [9]
PSALMS: 129
A
song of ascents.
1
They
have greatly oppressed me from my youth--
let
Israel say--
2
they
have greatly oppressed me from my youth,
but
they have not gained the victory over me.
3
Plowmen
have plowed my back
and
made their furrows long.
4
But
the LORD is righteous;
he
has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.
5
May
all who hate Zion
be
turned back in shame.
6
May
they be like grass on the roof,
which
withers before it can grow;
7
with
it the reaper cannot fill his hands,
nor
the one who gathers fill his arms.
8
May
those who pass by not say,
"The
blessing of the LORD be upon you;
we
bless you in the name of the LORD." [10]

1
Wisdom has built her house;
she
has hewn out its seven pillars.
2
She
has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she
has also set her table.
3
She
has sent out her maids, and she calls
from
the highest point of the city.
4
"Let all who are simple come in
here!"
she
says to those who lack judgment.
5
"Come, eat my food
and
drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave
your simple ways and you will live;
walk
in the way of understanding.
7
"Whoever corrects a mocker invites
insult;
whoever
rebukes a wicked man incurs abuse.
8 Do
not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you;
rebuke
a wise man and he will love you.
9 Instruct
a wise man and he will be wiser still;
teach
a righteous man and he will add to his learning.
10
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of
wisdom,
and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For
through me your days will be many,
and
years will be added to your life.
12 If
you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if
you are a mocker, you alone will suffer."

she

who

she
says to those who lack judgment.

her guests are in the depths of the grave. A [12]
OLD
TESTAMENT: ISAIAH 54:1 - 57:14
54
1
"Sing, O barren woman,
you
who never bore a child;
burst
into song, shout for joy,
you
who were never in labor;
because
more are the children of the desolate woman
than
of her who has a husband,"
says
the LORD.
2
"Enlarge the place of your tent,
stretch
your tent curtains wide,
do
not hold back;
lengthen
your cords,
strengthen
your stakes.
3
For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
your
descendants will dispossess nations
and
settle in their desolate cities.
4
"Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame.
Do
not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated.
You
will forget the shame of your youth
and
remember no more the reproach of your widowhood.
5
For your Maker is your husband--
the
LORD Almighty is his name--
the
Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he
is called the God of all the earth.
as
if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit--
a
wife who married young,
only
to be rejected," says your God.
7
"For a brief moment I abandoned you,
but
with deep compassion I will bring you back.
8
In a surge of anger
I
hid my face from you for a moment,
but
with everlasting kindness
I
will have compassion on you,"
says
the LORD your Redeemer.
9
"To me this is like the days of Noah,
when
I swore that the waters of Noah would never again cover the earth.
So
now I have sworn not to be angry with you,
never
to rebuke you again.
10
Though the mountains be shaken
and
the hills be removed,
yet
my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor
my covenant of peace be removed,"
says
the LORD, who has compassion on you.
11
"O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted,
I
will build you with stones of turquoise, A
your
foundations with sapphires. B
12
I will make your battlements of rubies,
your
gates of sparkling jewels, [14]
and
all your walls of precious stones.
13
All your sons will be taught by the LORD,
and
great will be your children's peace.
14
In righteousness you will be established:
Tyranny
will be far from you;
you
will have nothing to fear.
Terror
will be far removed;
it
will not come near you.
15
If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing;
whoever
attacks you will surrender to you.
16
"See, it is I who created the blacksmith
who
fans the coals into flame
and
forges a weapon fit for its work.
And
it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc;
17
no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and
you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This
is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
and
this is their vindication from me,"
declares
the LORD.
55
1
"Come, all you who are thirsty,
and
you who have no money,
come,
buy and eat!
Come,
buy wine and milk
without
money and without cost.
2
Why spend money on what is not bread,
and
your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen,
listen to me, and eat what is good,
and
your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
3
Give ear and come to me;
hear
me, that your soul may live.
I
will make an everlasting covenant with you,
my
faithful love promised to David.
4
See, I have made him a witness to the peoples,
a
leader and commander of the peoples.
5
Surely you will summon nations you know not,
and
nations that do not know you will hasten to you,
because
of the LORD your God,
the
Holy One of Israel,
for
he has endowed you with splendor."
6
Seek
the LORD while he may be found;
call
on him while he is near.
7
Let
the wicked forsake his way [16]
and
the evil man his thoughts.
Let
him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him,
and
to our God, for he will freely pardon.
8
"For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither
are your ways my ways,"
declares
the LORD.
9
"As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so
are my ways higher than your ways
and
my thoughts than your thoughts.
10
As the rain and the snow
come
down from heaven,
and
do not return to it
without
watering the earth
and
making it bud and flourish,
so
that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11
so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It
will not return to me empty,
but
will accomplish what I desire
and
achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12
You
will go out in joy
and
be led forth in peace;
the
mountains and hills
will
burst into song before you,
and
all the trees of the field
will
clap their hands.
[17]
13
Instead
of the thornbush will grow the pine tree,
and
instead of briers the myrtle will grow.
This
will be for the LORD's renown,
for
an everlasting sign,
which
will not be destroyed."
56
1
This
is what the LORD says:
"Maintain justice
and
do what is right,
for
my salvation is close at hand
and
my righteousness will soon be revealed.
2
Blessed is the man who does this,
the
man who holds it fast,
who
keeps the Sabbath without desecrating it,
and
keeps his hand from doing any evil."
3
Let
no foreigner who has bound himself to the LORD say,
"The
LORD will surely exclude me from his people."
And
let not any eunuch complain,
"I
am only a dry tree."
4
For
this is what the LORD says:
"To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who
choose what pleases me
and
hold fast to my covenant--
a
memorial and a name
better
than sons and daughters;
I
will give them an everlasting name
that
will not be cut off.
6
And foreigners who bind themselves to the LORD
to
serve him,
to
love the name of the LORD,
and
to worship him,
all
who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it
and
who hold fast to my covenant--
7
these I will bring to my holy mountain
and
give them joy in my house of prayer.
Their
burnt offerings and sacrifices
will
be accepted on my altar;
for
my house will be called
a
house of prayer for all nations."
8
The
Sovereign LORD declares--
he
who gathers the exiles of Israel:
"I will gather still others to them
besides
those already gathered."
9
Come,
all you beasts of the field,
come
and devour, all you beasts of the forest! [19]
10
Israel's
watchmen are blind,
they
all lack knowledge;
they
are all mute dogs,
they
cannot bark;
they
lie around and dream,
they
love to sleep.
11
They
are dogs with mighty appetites;
they
never have enough.
They
are shepherds who lack understanding;
they
all turn to their own way,
each
seeks his own gain.
12
"Come,"
each one cries, "let me get wine!
Let
us drink our fill of beer!
And
tomorrow will be like today,
or
even far better."
57
1
The righteous perish,
and
no one ponders it in his heart;
devout
men are taken away,
and
no one understands
that
the righteous are taken away
to
be spared from evil.
2
Those
who walk uprightly
enter
into peace;
they
find rest as they lie in death. [20]
3
"But you--come here, you sons of a sorceress,
you
offspring of adulterers and prostitutes!
4
Whom
are you mocking?
At
whom do you sneer
and
stick out your tongue?
Are
you not a brood of rebels,
the
offspring of liars?
5
You
burn with lust among the oaks
and
under every spreading tree;
you
sacrifice your children in the ravines
and
under the overhanging crags.
6
The
idols among the smooth stones of the ravines are your portion;
they,
they are your lot.
Yes,
to them you have poured out drink offerings
and
offered grain offerings.
In
the light of these things, should I relent?
7
You
have made your bed on a high and lofty hill;
there
you went up to offer your sacrifices.
8
Behind
your doors and your doorposts
you
have put your pagan symbols.
Forsaking
me, you uncovered your bed,
you
climbed into it and opened it wide;
you
made a pact with those whose beds you love,
and
you looked on their nakedness.
9
You
went to Molech
A with olive oil
and
increased your perfumes.
[21]
You
sent your ambassadors
B far away;
you
descended to the grave
C itself!
10
You
were wearied by all your ways,
but
you would not say, `It is hopeless.'
You
found renewal of your strength,
and
so you did not faint.
11
"Whom have you so dreaded and feared
that
you have been false to me,
and
have neither remembered me
nor
pondered this in your hearts?
Is
it not because I have long been silent
that
you do not fear me?
12
I
will expose your righteousness and your works,
and
they will not benefit you.
13
When
you cry out for help,
let
your collection of idols save you!
The
wind will carry all of them off,
a
mere breath will blow them away.
But
the man who makes me his refuge
will
inherit the land
and
possess my holy mountain."
14
And
it will be said:
"Build up, build up, prepare the road!
Remove
the obstacles out of the way of my people."

NEW
TESTAMENT: EPHESIANS 6:1 -
24
6
1
Children,
obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first
commandment with a promise—3 "that
it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
A
4
Fathers,
do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and
instruction of the Lord.
5
Slaves,
obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart,
just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their
favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God
from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the
Lord, not men, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone
for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.
9
And
masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know
that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no
favoritism with him.
10
Finally,
be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full
armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil
comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything,
to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around
your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and
with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which
you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take
the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers
and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the
saints.
19
Pray
also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will
fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an
ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
21
Tychicus,
the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so
that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. 22 I am sending
him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may
encourage you.
23
Peace
to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ. 24 Grace to all who
love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love. [23]

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
