THEinc-HIM Daily Bible Meditation – January 12 – Full Text

Genesis 1:1 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

JANUARY 12

PSALMS: 12, 42, 72, 102, 132

PROVERBS: 12

OLD TESTAMENT: DEUTERONOMY 23:1 - 25:19

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 10:13 - 37

PSALMS: 12

1 Help, LORD;

for the godly man ceases.

For the faithful fail from among the children of men.

2 Everyone lies to his neighbor.

With flattering lips, and with a double heart, do they speak.

3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips,

And the tongue that boasts,

4 Who have said, "With our tongue will we prevail.

Our lips are our own. Who is lord over us?"

5 "Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy,

I will now arise," says the LORD;

"I will set him in safety from those who malign him."

6 The words of the LORD are flawless words,

As silver refined in a clay furnace, purified seven times.

7 You will keep them, LORD,

You will preserve them from this generation forever.

8 The wicked walk on every side,

When what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.

PSALMS: 42

1 As the deer pants for the water brooks,

So pants my soul after you, God.

2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.

When shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears have been my food day and night,

While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"

4 These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me,

How I used to go with the crowd, and led them to the house of God,

With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping a holy day.

5 Why are you in despair, my soul?

Why are you disturbed within me?

Hope in God!

For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence.

6 My God, my soul is in despair within me.

Therefore I remember you from the land of the Yarden,

The heights of Hermon, from the hill Mitz`ar.

7 Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls.

All your waves and your billows have swept over me.

8 The LORD will command his loving kindness in the daytime.

In the night his song shall be with me:

A prayer to the God of my life.

9 I will ask God, my rock,

"Why have you forgotten me?

Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

10 As with a sword in my bones, my adversaries reproach me,

While they continually ask me, "Where is your God?"

11 Why are you in despair, my soul?

Why are you disturbed within me?

Hope in God!

For I shall still praise him,

The saving help of my countenance, and my God.

PSALMS: 72

1 God, give the king your justice;

Your righteousness to the royal son.

2 He will judge your people with righteousness,

And your poor with justice.

3 The mountains shall bring prosperity to the people;

The hills bring the fruit of righteousness.

4 He will judge the poor of the people.

He will save the children of the needy,

And will break the oppressor in pieces.

5 They shall fear you while the sun endures;

And as long as the moon, throughout all generations.

6 He will come down like rain on the mown grass,

As showers that water the eretz.

7 In his days, the righteous shall flourish,

And abundance of shalom, until the moon is no more.

8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea,

From the River to the ends of the eretz.

9 Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him.

His enemies shall lick the dust.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring tribute.

The kings of Sheva and Seva shall offer gifts.

11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before him.

All nations shall serve him.

12 For he will deliver the needy when he cries;

The poor, who has no helper.

13 He will have pity on the poor and needy.

He will save the souls of the needy.

14 He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence.

Their blood will be precious in his sight.

15 They shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheva.

Men shall pray for him continually.

They shall bless him all day long.

16 There shall be abundance of grain throughout the land.

Its fruit sways like Levanon.

Let it flourish, thriving like the grass of the field.

17 His name endures forever.

His name continues as long as the sun.

Men shall be blessed by him.

All nations will call him blessed.

18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Yisra'el,

Who alone does marvelous deeds.

19 Blessed be his glorious name forever!

Let the whole eretz be filled with his glory!

Amein and amein.

20 This ends the prayers by David, the son of Yishai.

PSALMS: 102

1 Hear my prayer, LORD! Let my cry come to you.

2 Don't hide your face from me in the day of my distress.

Turn your ear to me.

Answer me quickly in the day when I call.

3 For my days consume away like smoke.

My bones are burned as a firebrand.

4 My heart is blighted like grass, and withered,

For I forget to eat my bread.

5 By reason of the voice of my groaning,

My bones stick to my skin.

6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness.

I have become as an owl of the waste places.

7 I watch, and have become like a sparrow that is alone on the housetop.

8 My enemies reproach me all day.

Those who are mad at me use my name as a curse.

9 For I have eaten ashes like bread,

And mixed my drink with tears,

10 Because of your indignation and your wrath,

For you have taken me up, and thrown me away.

11 My days are like a long shadow.

I have withered like grass.

12 But you, LORD, will abide forever;

Your renown endures to all generations.

13 You will arise and have mercy on Tziyon;

For it is time to have pity on her.

Yes, the set time has come.

14 For your servants take pleasure in her stones,

And have pity on her dust.

15 So the nations will fear the name of the LORD;

All the kings of the eretz your glory.

16 For the LORD has built up Tziyon.

He has appeared in his glory.

17 He has responded to the prayer of the destitute,

And has not despised their prayer.

18 This will be written for the generation to come.

A people which will be created will praise the LORD.

19 For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary.

From heaven, the LORD saw the eretz;

20 To hear the groans of the prisoner;

To free those who are condemned to death;

21 That men may declare the name of the LORD in Tziyon,

And his praise in Yerushalayim;

22 When the peoples are gathered together,

The kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

23 He weakened my strength along the course.

He shortened my days.

24 I said, "My God, don't take me away in the midst of my days.

Your years are throughout all generations.

25 Of old, you laid the foundation of the eretz.

The heavens are the work of your hands.

26 They will perish, but you will endure.

Yes, all of them will wear out like a garment.

You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed.

27 But you are the same.

Your years will have no end.

28 The children of your servants will continue.

Their seed will be established before you."

PSALMS: 132

1 LORD, remember David and all his affliction,

2 How he swore to the LORD,

And vowed to the Mighty One of Ya`akov:

3 "Surely I will not come into the structure of my house,

Nor go up into my bed;

4 I will not give sleep to my eyes,

Or slumber to my eyelids;

5 Until I find out a place for the LORD,

A dwelling for the Mighty One of Ya`akov."

6 Behold, we heard of it in Efratah.

We found it in the field of Ya`ar:

7 "We will go into his dwelling place.

We will worship at his footstool.

8 Arise, LORD, into your resting place;

You, and the ark of your strength.

9 Let your Kohen be clothed with righteousness.

Let your holy ones shout for joy!"

10 For your servant David's sake,

Don't turn away the face of your anointed one.

11 The LORD has sworn to David in truth.

He will not turn from it:

"I will set the fruit of your body on your throne.

12 If your children will keep my covenant,

My testimony that I will teach them,

Their children also will sit on your throne forevermore."

13 For the LORD has chosen Tziyon.

He has desired it for his habitation.

14 "This is my resting place forever.

Here I will live, for I have desired it.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision.

I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16 Her Kohanim I will also clothe with salvation.

Her holy ones will shout aloud for joy.

17 There I will make the horn of David to bud.

I have ordained a lamp for my anointed.

18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,

But on himself, his crown will be resplendant."

PROVERBS: 12

1 Whoever loves correction loves knowledge,

But he who hates reproof is stupid.

2 A good man shall obtain favor from the LORD,

But he will condemn a man of wicked devices.

3 A man shall not be established by wickedness,

But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband,

But a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones.

5 The thoughts of the righteous are just.

The advice of the wicked is deceitful.

6 The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood,

But the speech of the upright rescues them.

7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more,

But the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom,

But he who has a warped mind shall be despised.

9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed, and has a servant,

Than he who honors himself, and lacks bread.

10 A righteous man regards the life of his animal,

But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread,

But he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.

12 The wicked desires the plunder of evil men,

But the root of the righteous flourishes.

13 An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips,

But the righteous shall come out of trouble.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth.

The doings of a man's hands shall be rewarded to him.

15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,

But he who is wise listens to counsel.

16 A fool shows his annoyance the same day,

But one who overlooks an insult is prudent.

17 He who is truthful testifies honestly,

But a false witness lies.

18 There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword,

But the tongue of the wise heals.

19 Truth's lips will be established forever,

But a lying tongue is only momentary.

20 Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil,

But joy comes to the promoters of shalom.

21 No mischief shall happen to the righteous,

But the wicked shall be filled with evil.

22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD,

But those who do the truth are his delight.

23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge,

But the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness.

24 The hands of the diligent ones shall rule,

But laziness ends in slave labor.

25 Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down,

But a kind word makes it glad.

26 The righteous is cautious in friendship,

But the way of the wicked leads them astray.

27 The slothful man doesn't roast his game,

But the possessions of diligent men are prized.

28 In the way of righteousness is life;

In its path there is no death.

OLD TESTAMENT: DEUTERONOMY 23:1 - 25:19

23:1 He who is wounded in the stones, or has his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD. 2 A bastard shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none of his enter into the assembly of the LORD. 3 An `Ammonite or a Mo'avite shall not enter into the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation shall none belonging to them enter into the assembly of the LORD forever: 4 because they didn't meet you with bread and with water in the way, when you came forth out of Mitzrayim, and because they hired against you Bil`am the son of Be'or from Petor of Aram-Naharayim, to curse you 5 Nevertheless the LORD your God wouldn't listen to Bil`am; but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because the LORD your God loved you. 6 You shall not seek their shalom nor their prosperity all your days forever. 7 You shall not abhor an Edomite; for he is your brother: you shall not abhor a Mitzrian, because you were a sojourner in his land. 8 The children of the third generation who are born to them shall enter into the assembly of the LORD. 9 When you go forth in camp against your enemies, then you shall keep you from every evil thing. 10 If there be among you any man, who is not clean by reason of that which happens him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: 11 but it shall be, when evening comes on, he shall bathe himself in water; and when the sun is down, he shall come within the camp. 12 You shall have a place also outside of the camp, where you shall go forth abroad: 13 and you shall have a paddle among your weapons; and it shall be, when you sit down abroad, you shall dig therewith, and shall turn back and cover that which comes from you: 14 for the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you; therefore shall your camp be holy, that he may not see an unclean thing in you, and turn away from you 15 You shall not deliver to his master a servant who is escaped from his master to you: 16 he shall dwell with you, in the midst of you, in the place which he shall choose within one of your gates, where it pleases him best: you shall not oppress him. 17 There shall be no prostitute of the daughters of Yisra'el, neither shall there be a sodomite of the sons of Yisra'el. 18 You shall not bring the hire of a prostitute, or the wages of a dog, into the house of the LORD your God for any vow: for even both these are an abomination to the LORD your God. 19 You shall not lend on interest to your brother; interest of money, interest of victuals, interest of anything that is lent on interest 20 to a foreigner you may lend on interest; but to your brother you shall not lend on interest, that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you put your hand to, in the land where you go in to possess it. 21 When you shall vow a vow to the LORD your God, you shall not be slack to pay it: for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be sin in you 22 But if you shall forbear to vow, it shall be no sin in you. 23 That which is gone out of your lips you shall observe and do; according as you have vowed to the LORD your God, a freewill-offering, which you have promised with your mouth. 24 When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, then you may eat of grapes your fill at your own pleasure; but you shall not put any in your vessel. 25 When you come into your neighbor's standing grain, then you may pluck the ears with your hand; but you shall not move a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.

24:1 When a man takes a wife, and marries her, then it shall be, if she find no favor in his eyes, because he has found some unseemly thing in her, that he shall write her a bill of divorce, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house. 2 When she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's [wife]. 3 If the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorce, and give it in her hand, and send her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, who took her to be his wife; 4 her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and you shall not cause the land to sin, which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance. 5 When a man takes a new wife, he shall not go out in the host, neither shall he be charged with any business: he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife whom he has taken. 6 No man shall take the mill or the upper millstone to pledge; for he takes [a man's] life to pledge. 7 If a man be found stealing any of his brothers of the children of Yisra'el, and he deal with him as a slave, or sell him; then that thief shall die: so shall you put away the evil from the midst of you. 8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that you observe diligently, and do according to all that the Kohanim the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so you shall observe to do. 9 Remember what the LORD your God did to Miryam, by the way as you came forth out of Mitzrayim. 10 When you do lend your neighbor any manner of loan, you shall not go into his house to get his pledge. 11 You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you do lend shall bring forth the pledge outside to you. 12 If he be a poor man, you shall not sleep with his pledge; 13 you shall surely restore to him the pledge when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his garment, and bless you: and it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God. 14 You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he be of your brothers, or of your sojourners who are in your land within your gates: 15 in his day you shall give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor, and sets his heart on it: lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin to you. 16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. 17  You shall not wrest the justice [due] to the sojourner, [or] to the fatherless, nor take the widow's clothing to pledge; 18 but you shall remember that you were a bondservant in Mitzrayim, and the LORD your God redeemed you there: therefore I command you to do this thing. 19 When you reap your harvest in your field, and have forgot a sheaf in the field, you shall not go again to get it: it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow. 21 When you gather [the grapes of] your vineyard, you shall not glean it after you: it shall be for the sojourner, for the fatherless, and for the widow. 22 You shall remember that you were a bondservant in the land of Mitzrayim: therefore I command you to do this thing.

25:1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come to judgment, and [the judges] judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked; 2 and it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number. 3 Forty stripes he may give him, he shall not exceed; lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then your brother should seem vile to you. 4 You shall not muzzle the ox when he treads out [the grain]. 5 If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside to a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to him as wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. 6 It shall be, that the firstborn whom she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name not be blotted out of Yisra'el. 7 If the man doesn't want to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate to the Zakenim, and say, My husband's brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Yisra'el; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me. 8 Then the Zakenim of his city shall call him, and speak to him: and if he stand, and say, I don't want to take her; 9 then his brother's wife shall come to him in the presence of the Zakenim, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother's house. 10 His name shall be called in Yisra'el, The house of him who has his shoe loosed. 11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draws near to deliver her husband out of the hand of him who strikes him, and puts forth her hand, and takes him by the secrets; 12 then you shall cut off her hand, your eye shall have no pity. 13 You shall not have in your bag diverse weights, a great and a small. 14 You shall not have in your house diverse measures, a great and a small. 15 A perfect and just weight shall you have; a perfect and just measure shall you have: that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God gives you. 16 For all who do such things, [even] all who do unrighteously, are an abomination to the LORD your God. 17 Remember what `Amalek did to you by the way as you came forth out of Mitzrayim; 18 how he met you by the way, and struck the hindmost of you, all who were feeble behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he didn't fear God. 19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the memory of `Amalek from under the sky; you shall not forget.

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 10:13 - 37

13 "Woe to you, Kora'zin! Woe to you, Beit-Tzaidah! For if the mighty works had been done in Tzor and Tzidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

14 But it will be more tolerable for Tzor and Tzidon in the judgment than for you.

15 You, Kafar-Nachum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to She'ol.

16 Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me."

17  The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!"

18 He said to them, "I saw Hasatan having fallen like lightning from heaven.

19 Behold, I give you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will in any way hurt you.

20 Nevertheless, don't rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

21 In that same hour Yeshua rejoiced in the Ruach HaKodesh, and said, "I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and eretz, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight."

22 Turning to the talmidim, he said, "All things have been delivered to me from my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him."

23 Turning to the talmidim, he said privately, "Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see,

24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see the things which you see, and didn't see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and didn't hear them."

25 Behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested him, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"

26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read it?"

27 He answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."

28 He said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live."

29But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Yeshua, "Who is my neighbor?"

30 Yeshua answered, "A certain man was going down from Yerushalayim to Yericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

31 By chance a certain Kohen was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

32 In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side.

33 But a certain Shomroni, as he journeyed, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion,

34 came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, 'Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.'

36 Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?"

37 He said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Yeshua said to him, "Go and do likewise."

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
