OLD TESTAMENT: 2 CHRONICLES 8:1 - 10:19
NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS: 8:9 - 25
PSALMS: 3
1 A psalm of David,
when he fled from Avshalom his son:
ADONAI, how many enemies I have!
How countless are those attacking me;
2 how countless those who say of me,
"There is no salvation for him in God."
(Selah)
3 But you, ADONAI, are a shield for me;
you are my glory, you lift my head high.
4 With my voice I call out to ADONAI,
and he answers me from his holy hill.
(Selah)
5 I lie down and sleep, then wake up again,
because ADONAI sustains me.
6 I am not afraid of the tens of thousands
set against me on every side.
7 Rise up, ADONAI!
Save me, my God!
For you slap all my enemies in the face,
you smash the teeth of the wicked.
8 Victory comes from ADONAI;
may your blessing rest on your people.
(Selah)
PSALMS: 33
1 Rejoice in ADONAI, you righteous!
Praise is well-suited to the upright.
2 Give thanks to ADONAI with the lyre,
sing praises to him with a ten-stringed harp.
3 Sing to him a new song,
make music at your best among shouts of joy.
4 For the word of ADONAI is true,
and all his work is trustworthy.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of the grace of ADONAI.
6 By the word of ADONAI the heavens were made,
and their whole host by a breath from his mouth.
7 He collects the sea waters together in a heap;
he puts the deeps in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear ADONAI!
Let all living in the world stand in awe of him.
9 For he spoke, and there it was;
he commanded, and there it stood.
10 ADONAI brings to nothing the plans of nations,
he foils the plans of the peoples.
11 But the counsel of ADONAI stands forever,
his heart's plans are for all generations.
12 How blessed is the nation whose God is ADONAI,
the people he chose as his heritage!
13 ADONAI looks out from heaven;
he sees every human being;
14 from the place where he lives he
watches everyone living on earth,
15 he who fashioned the hearts of them
all and understands all they do.
16 A king is not saved by the size of his army,
a strong man not delivered by his great strength.
17 To rely on a horse for safety is vain,
nor does its great power assure escape.
18 But ADONAI's eyes watch over those who fear him,
over those who wait for his grace
19 to rescue them from death
and keep them alive in famine.
20 We are waiting for ADONAI;
he is our help and shield.
21 For in him our hearts rejoice,
because we trust in his holy name.
22 May your mercy, ADONAI, be over us,
because we put our hope in you.
PSALMS: 63
1 A psalm of David,
when he was in the desert of Y'hudah:
O God, you are my God;
I will seek you eagerly.
My heart thirsts for you,
my body longs for you in a land parched and exhausted,
where no water can be found.
2 I used to contemplate you in the sanctuary,
seeing your power and glory;
3 for your grace is better than life.
My lips will worship you.
4 Yes, I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I am as satisfied as with rich food;
my mouth praises you with joy on my lips
6 when I remember you on my bed
and meditate on you in the night watches.
7 For you have been my help;
in the shadow of your wings I rejoice;
8 my heart clings to you;
your right hand supports me.
9 But those who seek to destroy my life -may
they go to the lowest parts of the earth.
10 May they be given over to the power of the sword;
may they become prey for jackals.
11 But the king will rejoice in God.
Everyone who swears by him will exult,
for the mouths of liars will be silenced.
PSALMS: 93
1 ADONAI is king, robed in majesty;
ADONAI is robed, girded with strength;
The world is well established;
it cannot be moved.
2 Your throne was established long ago;
you have existed forever.
3 ADONAI, the deep is raising up, the deep is raising up
its voice, the deep is raising its crashing waves.
4 More than the sound of rushing waters or the mighty breakers of the sea,
ADONAI on high is mighty.
5 Your instructions are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
ADONAI, for all time to come.
PSALMS: 123
1 A song of ascents:
I raise my eyes to you, whose throne is in heaven.
2 As a servant looks to the hand of his master,
or a slave-girl to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes turn to ADONAI our God,
until he has mercy on us.
3 Have mercy on us, ADONAI, have mercy;
for we have had our fill of contempt,
4 more than our fill of scorn from the complacent
and contempt from the arrogant.
PROVERBS: 3
1 My son, don't forget my teaching,
keep my commands in your heart;
2 for they will add to you many days,
years of life and peace.
3 Do not let grace and truth leave you
-bind them around your neck;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and esteem
in the sight of God and of people.
5 Trust in ADONAI with all your heart;
do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him;
then he will level your paths.
7 Don't be conceited about your own wisdom;
but fear ADONAI, and turn from evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and give strength to your bones.
9 Honor ADONAI with your wealth
and with the firstfruits of all your income.
10 Then your granaries will be filled
and your vats overflow with new wine.
11 My son, don't despise ADONAI's discipline
or resent his reproof;
12 for ADONAI corrects those he loves
like a father who delights in his son.
13 Happy the person who finds wisdom,
the person who acquires understanding;
14 for her profit exceeds that of silver,
gaining her is better than gold,
15 she is more precious than pearls -nothing
you want can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand,
riches and honor in her left.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who grasp her;
whoever holds fast to her will be made happy.
19 ADONAI by wisdom founded the earth,
by understanding he established the heavens,
20 by his knowledge the deep [springs] burst open
and the dew condenses from the sky.
21 My son, don't let these slip from your sight;
preserve common sense and discretion;
22 they will be life for your being
and grace for your neck.
23 Then you will walk your way securely,
without hurting your foot.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Don't be afraid of sudden terror or destruction caused by the wicked,
when it comes;
26 for you can rely on ADONAI;
he will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.
27 Don't withhold good from someone entitled to it when
you have in hand the power to do it.
28 Don't tell your neighbor, "Go away!
Come another time;
I'll give it to you tomorrow,"
when you have it now.
29 Don't plan harm against your neighbor who lives beside you trustingly.
30 Don't quarrel with someone for no reason, if he has done you no harm.
31 Don't envy a man of violence, don't choose any of his ways;
32 for the perverse is an abomination to ADONAI,
but he shares his secret counsel with the upright.
33 ADONAI's curse is in the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.
34 The scornful he scorns,
but gives grace to the humble.
35 The wise win honor,
but fools win shame.
OLD TESTAMENT: 2 CHRONICLES 8:1 - 10:19
8:1 It happened at the end of twenty years, in which Shlomo had built the house of the LORD, and his own house, 2 that the cities which Huram had given to Shlomo, Shlomo built them, and caused the children of Yisra'el to dwell there. 3 Shlomo went to Hamat-Tzovah, and prevailed against it. 4 He built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store-cities, which he built in Hamat. 5 Also he built Beit-Horon the upper, and Beit-Horon the lower, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars; 6 and Ba`alat, and all the store-cities that Shlomo had, and all the cities for his chariots, and the cities for his horsemen, and all that Shlomo desired to build for his pleasure in Yerushalayim, and in Levanon, and in all the land of his dominion. 7 As for all the people who were left of the Hitti, and the Amori, and the Perizzi, and the Hivvi, and the Yevusi, who were not of Yisra'el; 8 of their children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Yisra'el didn't consume, of them did Shlomo raise a levy [of bondservants] to this day. 9 But of the children of Yisra'el did Shlomo make no servants for his work; but they were men of war, and chief of his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen. 10 These were the chief officers of king Shlomo, even two hundred fifty, who ruled over the people. 11 Shlomo brought up the daughter of Par`oh out of the city of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Yisra'el, because the places are holy, whereunto the ark of the LORD has come. 12 Then Shlomo offered burnt-offerings to the LORD on the altar of the LORD, which he had built before the porch, 13 even as the duty of every day required, offering according to the mitzvah of Moshe, on the Shabbatot, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts, three times in the year, [even] in the feast of matzah, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of booths. 14 He appointed, according to the ordinance of David his father, the courses of the Kohanim to their service, and the Levites to their offices, to praise, and to minister before the Kohanim, as the duty of every day required; the doorkeepers also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded. 15 They didn't depart from the mitzvah of the king to the Kohanim and Levites concerning any matter, or concerning the treasures. 16 Now all the work of Shlomo was prepared to the day of the foundation of the house of the LORD, and until it was finished. [So] the house of the LORD was completed. 17 Then went Shlomo to `Etzyon-Gever, and to Elot, on the seashore in the land of Edom. 18 Huram sent him by the hands of his servants ships, and servants who had knowledge of the sea; and they came with the servants of Shlomo to Ofir, and fetched from there four hundred fifty talents of gold, and brought them to king Shlomo.
9:1 When the queen of Sheva heard of the fame of Shlomo, she came to prove Shlomo with hard questions at Yerushalayim, with a very great train, and camels that bore spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones: and when she was come to Shlomo, she talked with him of all that was in her heart. 2 Shlomo told her all her questions; and there was not anything hid from Shlomo which he didn't tell her. 3 When the queen of Sheva had seen the wisdom of Shlomo, and the house that he had built, 4 and the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their clothing, his cup bearers also, and their clothing, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of the LORD; there was no more spirit in her. 5 She said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts, and of your wisdom. 6 However I didn't believe their words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it; and, behold, the half of the greatness of your wisdom was not told me: you exceed the fame that I heard.
7 Happy are your men, and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, and hear your wisdom. 8 Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on his throne, to be king for the LORD your God: because your God loved Yisra'el, to establish them forever, therefore made he you king over them, to do justice and righteousness. 9 She gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, and spices in great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheva gave to king Shlomo. 10 The servants also of Huram, and the servants of Shlomo, who brought gold from Ofir, brought algum trees and precious stones. 11 The king made of the algum trees terraces for the house of the LORD, and for the king's house, and harps and psalteries for the singers: and there were none such seen before in the land of Yehudah. 12 King Shlomo gave to the queen of Sheva all her desire, whatever she asked, besides that which she had brought to the king. So she turned, and went to her own land, she and her servants. 13 Now the weight of gold that came to Shlomo in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold, 14 besides that which the traders and merchants brought: and all the kings of `Arav and the governors of the country brought gold and silver to Shlomo. 15 King Shlomo made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred [shekels] of beaten gold went to one buckler. 16 [he made] three hundred shields of beaten gold; three hundred [shekels] of gold went to one shield: and the king put them in the house of the forest of Levanon. 17 Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold. 18 and there were six steps to the throne, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on either side by the place of the seat, and two lions standing beside the stays. 19 Twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other on the six steps: there was nothing like it made in any kingdom. 20 All king Shlomo's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Levanon were of pure gold: silver was nothing accounted of in the days of Shlomo. 21 For the king had ships that went to Tarshish with the servants of Huram; once every three years came the ships of Tarshish, bringing gold, and silver, ivory, and apes, and peacocks. 22 So king Shlomo exceeded all the kings of the eretz in riches and wisdom. 23 All the kings of the eretz sought the presence of Shlomo, to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. 24 They brought every man his tribute, vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and clothing, armor, and spices, horses, and mules, a rate year by year. 25 Shlomo had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, that he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Yerushalayim. 26 He ruled over all the kings from the River even to the land of the Pelishtim, and to the border of Mitzrayim. 27 The king made silver to be in Yerushalayim as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance. 28 They brought horses for Shlomo out of Mitzrayim, and out of all lands. 29 Now the rest of the acts of Shlomo, first and last, aren't they written in the history of Natan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Achiyah the Shiloni, and in the visions of `Iddo the seer concerning Yarov`am the son of Nevat? 30 Shlomo reigned in Yerushalayim over all Yisra'el forty years. 31 Shlomo slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father: and Rechav`am his son reigned in his place.
10:1 Rechav`am went to Shekhem; for all Yisra'el were come to Shekhem to make him king. 2 It happened, when Yarov`am the son of Nevat heard of it, (for he was in Mitzrayim, where he had fled from the presence of king Shlomo,) that Yarov`am returned out of Mitzrayim. 3 They sent and called him; and Yarov`am and all Yisra'el came, and they spoke to Rechav`am, saying, 4 Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you. 5 He said to them, Come again to me after three days. The people departed. 6 King Rechav`am took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Shlomo his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give you me to return answer to this people? 7 They spoke to him, saying, If you are kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever. 8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. 9 He said to them, What counsel give you, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that your father did put on us lighter? 10 The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, Thus shall you tell the people who spoke to you, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy, but make you it lighter to us; thus shall you say to them, My little finger is thicker than my father's loins. 11 Now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions. 12 So Yarov`am and all the people came to Rechav`am the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day. 13 The king answered them roughly; and king Rechav`am forsook the counsel of the old men, 14 and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions. 15 So the king didn't listen to the people; for it was brought about of God, that the LORD might establish his word, which he spoke by Achiyah the Shiloni to Yarov`am the son of Nevat. 16 When all Yisra'el saw that the king didn't listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Yishai: every man to your tents, Yisra'el: now see to your own house, David. So all Yisra'el departed to their tents. 17 But as for the children of Yisra'el who lived in the cities of Yehudah, Rechav`am reigned over them. 18 Then king Rechav`am sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Yisra'el stoned him to death with stones. King Rechav`am made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Yerushalayim. 19 So Yisra'el rebelled against the house of David to this day.
NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS: 8:9 - 25
8:9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn't have the Spirit of Messiah, he is not his.
10 If Messiah is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him who raised up Yeshua from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Messiah Yeshua from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.
15 For you didn't receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, "Abba! Father!"
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God;
17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Messiah; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us.
19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.
20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope
21 that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.
23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees?
25 But if we hope for that which we don't see, we wait for it with patience.
