MAY 26
PSALMS: 26, 56, 86, 116, 146
PROVERBS: 26
OLD TESTAMENT: NEHEMIAH 9:22 - 10:39
NEW TESTAMENT: 1 CORINTHIANS 9:19 - 10:13
PSALMS: 26
1 Judge me, LORD, for I have walked in my integrity.
I have trusted also in LORD without wavering.
2 Examine me, LORD, and prove me.
Try my heart and my mind.
3 For your loving kindness is before my eyes.
I have walked in your truth.
4 I have not sat with deceitful men,
Neither will I go in with hypocrites.
5 I hate the assembly of evil-doers,
And will not sit with the wicked.
6 I will wash my hands in innocence,
So I will go about your altar, LORD;
7 That I may make the voice of thanksgiving to be heard,
And tell of all your wondrous works.
8 LORD, I love the habitation of your house,
The place where your glory dwells.
9 Don't gather my soul with sinners,
Nor my life with bloodthirsty men;
10 In whose hands is wickedness,
Their right hand is full of bribes.
11 But as for me, I will walk in my integrity.
Redeem me, and be merciful to me.
12 My foot stands in an even place.
In the congregations will I bless the LORD.
PSALMS: 56
1 Be merciful to me, God, for man wants to swallow me up.
All day long, he attacks and oppresses me.
2 My enemies want to swallow me up all day long,
For they are many who fight proudly against me.
3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.
4 In God, I praise his word. In God,
I put my trust. I will not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me?
5 All day long they twist my words.
All their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They conspire and lurk,
Watching my steps, they are eager to take my life.
7 Shall they escape by iniquity? I
n anger cast down the peoples, God.
8 You number my wanderings.
You put my tears into your bottle.
Aren't they in your book?
9 Then shall my enemies turn back in the day that I call.
I know this, that God is for me.
10 In God, I will praise his word. In the LORD,
I will praise his word.
11 I have put my trust in God.
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
12 Your vows are on me, God.
I will give thank offerings to you.
13 For you have delivered my soul from death,
And prevented my feet from falling,
That I may walk before God in the light of the living.
PSALMS: 86
1 Hear, LORD, and answer me,
For I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my soul, for I am godly.
You, my God, save your servant who trusts in you.
3 Be merciful to me, Lord,
For I call to you all day long.
4 Bring joy to the soul of your servant,
For to you, Lord, do I lift up my soul.
5 For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive;
Abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.
6 Hear, LORD, my prayer.
Listen to the voice of my petitions.
7 In the day of my trouble I will call on you,
For you will answer me.
8 There is no one like you among the gods, Lord,
Nor any deeds like your deeds.
9 All nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord.
They shall glorify your name.
10 For you are great, and do wondrous things.
You are God alone.
11 Teach me your way, LORD.
I will walk in your truth.
Make my heart undivided to fear your name.
12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with my whole heart.
I will glorify your name forevermore.
13 For your loving kindness is great toward me.
You have delivered my soul from the lowest She'ol.
14 God, the proud have risen up against me.
A company of violent men have sought after my soul,
And they don't hold regard for you before them.
15 But you, Lord, are a merciful and gracious God,
Slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth.
16 Turn to me, and have mercy on me!
Give your strength to your servant.
Save the son of your handmaid.
17 Show me a sign of your goodness,
That those who hate me may see it, and be put to shame,
Because you, LORD, have helped me, and comforted me.
PSALMS: 116
1 I love the LORD, because he listens to my voice,
And my cries for mercy.
2 Because he has turned his ear to me,
Therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The cords of death surrounded me,
The pains of She'ol got a hold on me.
I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then called I on the name of the LORD:
"The LORD, I beg you, deliver my soul."
5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.
6 The LORD preserves the simple.
I was brought low, and he saved me.
7 Return to your rest, my soul,
For the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling.
9 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
10 I believed, therefore I said,
"I was greatly afflicted."
11 I said in my haste,
"All men are liars."
12 What will I give to the LORD for all his benefits toward me?
13 I will take the cup of salvation,
and call on the name of the LORD.
14 I will pay my vows to the LORD,
Yes, in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his holy ones.
16 LORD, truly I am your servant.
I am your servant, the son of your handmaid.
You have freed me from my chains.
17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And will call on the name of the LORD.
18 I will pay my vows to the LORD,
Yes, in the presence of all his people,
19 In the courts of the LORD's house,
In the midst of you, Yerushalayim.
Praise the LORD!
PSALMS: 146
1 Praise the LORD!
Praise the LORD, my soul.
2 While I live, I will praise the LORD.
I will sing praises to my God as long as I exist.
3 Don't put your trust in princes,
Each a son of man in whom there is no help.
4 His spirit departs, and he returns to the eretz.
In that very day, his thoughts perish.
5 Happy is he who has the God of Ya`akov for his help,
Whose hope is in the LORD, his God:
6 Who made heaven and eretz,
The sea, and all that is in them;
Who keeps truth forever;
7 Who executes justice for the oppressed;
Who gives food to the hungry.
The LORD frees the prisoners.
8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind.
The LORD raises up those who are bowed down.
The LORD loves the righteous.
9 The LORD preserves the sojourners.
He upholds the fatherless and widow,
But the way of the wicked he turns upside down.
10 The LORD will reign forever;
Your God, O Tziyon, to all generations. Praise the LORD!
PROVERBS: 26
1 Like snow in summer, and as rain in harvest,
So honor is not fitting for a fool.
2 Like a fluttering sparrow,
Like a darting swallow,
So the undeserved curse doesn't come to rest.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,
And a rod for the back of fools!
4 Don't answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest you also be like him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest he be wise in his own eyes.
6 One who sends a message by the hand of a fool
Is cutting off feet and drinking violence.
7 Like the legs of the lame that hang loose:
So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
8 As one who binds a stone in a sling,
So is he who gives honor to a fool.
9 Like a thornbush that goes into the hand of a drunkard,
So is a parable in the mouth of fools.
10 As an archer who wounds all,
So is he who hires a fool
Or he who hires those who pass by.
11 As a dog that returns to his vomit,
So is a fool who repeats his folly.
12 Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.
13 The sluggard says,
"There is a lion in the road!
A fierce lion roams the streets!"
14 As the door turns on its hinges,
So does the sluggard on his bed.
15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish.
He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes
Than seven men who answer with discretion.
17 Like one who seizes a dog's ears
Is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.
18 Like a madman who shoots firebrands, arrows, and death,
19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor and says,
"Am I not joking?"
20 For lack of wood the fire goes out;
Where there is no gossip, a quarrel dies down.
21 As coals are to hot embers, And wood to fire,
So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
22 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels,
They go down into the innermost parts.
23 Like silver dross on an earthen vessel
Are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.
24 A malicious man disguises himself with his lips,
But he harbors evil in his heart.
25 When his speech is charming, don't believe him;
For there are seven abominations in his heart:
26 His malice may be concealed by deception,
But his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
27 Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. ‘
Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
OLD TESTAMENT: NEHEMIAH 9:22 - 10:39
9:22 Moreover you gave them kingdoms and peoples, which you did allot after their portions: so they possessed the land of Sichon, even the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of `Og king of Bashan. 23 Their children also multiplied you as the stars of the sky, and brought them into the land concerning which you did say to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it. 24 So the children went in and possessed the land, and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Kana`anim, and gave them into their hands, with their kings, and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would. 25 They took fortified cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns hewn out, vineyards, and olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance: so they ate, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness. 26 Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their back, and killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies.
27 Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard from heaven; and according to your manifold mercies you gave them saviors who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries. 28 But after they had rest, they did evil again before you; therefore left you them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried to you, you heard from heaven; and many times did you deliver them according to your mercies, 29 and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they dealt proudly, and didn't listen to your mitzvot, but sinned against your ordinances, (which if a man do, he shall live in them,) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear. 30 Yet many years did you bear with them, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gave you them into the hand of the peoples of the lands. 31 Nevertheless in your manifold mercies you did not make a full end of them, nor forsake them; for you are a gracious and merciful God. 32 Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keep covenant and lovingkindness, don't let all the travail seem little before you, that has come on us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our Kohanim, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Ashshur to this day.
33 However you are just in all that is come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly; 34 neither have our kings, our princes, our Kohanim, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your mitzvot and your testimonies with which you did testify against them. 35 For they have not served you in their kingdom, and in your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and fat land which you gave before them, neither turned they from their wicked works. 36 Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat the fruit of it and the good of it, behold, we are servants in it. 37 It yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: also they have power over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress. 38 Yet for all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, our Levites, [and] our Kohanim, seal to it.
10:1 Now those who sealed were: Nechemyah the governor, the son of Hakhalyah, and Tzidkiyahu, 2 Serayah, `Azaryah, Yirmeyahu, 3 Pashchur, Amaryah, Malkiyah, 4 Hattush, Shevanyah, Mallukh, 5 Harim, Meremot, `Ovadyah, 6 Daniyel, Ginneton, Barukh, 7 Meshullam, Aviyah, Miyamin, 8 Ma`azyah, Bilgai, Shemayah; these were the Kohanim. 9 The Levites: namely, Yeshua the son of Azanyah, Binnui of the sons of Henadad, Kadmi'el; 10 and their brothers, Shevanyah, Hodiyah, Kelita, Pelayah, Hanan, 11 Mikha, Rechov, Hashavyah, 12 Zakkur, Sherevyah, Shevanyah, 13 Hodiyah, Bani, Beninu. 14 The chiefs of the people: Par`osh, Pachat-Mo'av, `Elam, Zattu, Bani, 15 Bunni, Azgad, Bevai, 16 Adoniyahu, Bigvai, `Adin, 17 Ater, Hizkiyahu, Azur, 18 Hodiyah, Hashum, Betzai, 19 Harif, `Anatot, Nevai, 20 Magpi`ash, Meshullam, Hetzir, 21 Meshezav'el, Tzadok, Yaddua,
22 Pelatyah, Hanan, `Anayah, 23 Hoshea, Hananyah, Hashshuv, 24 Hallochesh, Pilecha, Shovek, 25 Rechum, Hashavnah, Ma`aseyah, 26 and Achyah, Hanan, `Anan, 27 Mallukh, Harim, Ba`anah. 28 The rest of the people, the Kohanim, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the temple servants, and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, everyone who had knowledge, and understanding; 29 They joined with their brothers, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moshe the servant of God, and to observe and do all the mitzvot of the LORD our Lord, and his ordinances and his statutes; 30 and that we would not give our daughters to the peoples of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons; 31 and if the peoples of the land bring wares or any grain on the day of Shabbat to sell, that we would not buy of them on the Shabbat, or on a holy day; and that we would forego the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt. 32 Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God; 33 for the show bread, and for the continual meal-offering, and for the continual burnt-offering, for the Shabbatot, for the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin-offerings to make atonement for Yisra'el, and for all the work of the house of our God. 34 We cast lots, the Kohanim, the Levites, and the people, for the wood-offering, to bring it into the house of our God, according to our fathers' houses, at times appointed, year by year, to burn on the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law; 35 and to bring the first fruits of our ground, and the first fruits of all fruit of all manner of trees, year by year, to the house of the LORD;
36 also the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written in the law, and the firstborn of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God, to the Kohanim who minister in the house of our God; 37 and that we should bring the first fruits of our dough, and our heave-offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, the new wine and the oil, to the Kohanim, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground to the Levites; for they, the Levites, take the tithes in all the cities of our tillage. 38 The Kohen the son of Aharon shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure-house. 39 For the children of Yisra'el and the children of Levi shall bring the heave-offering of the grain, of the new wine, and of the oil, to the chambers, where are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the Kohanim who minister, and the porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.
NEW TESTAMENT: 1 CORINTHIANS 9:19 - 10:13
9:19 For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. 20To the Yehudim I became as a Yehudi, that I might gain Yehudim; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Messiah), that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some. 23 Now I do this for the Good News's sake, that I may be a joint partaker of it. 24 Don't you know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run like that, that you may win. 25 Every man who strives in the games exercises self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore run like that, as not uncertainly. I fight like that, as not beating the air, 27 but I beat my body and bring it into submission, for fear that by any means, that after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.
10:1 Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 and were all immersed into Moshe in the cloud and in the sea; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Messiah.
5 However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. 7 Neither be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." 8 Neither let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell. 9 Neither let us test the Lord, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents. 10 Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer. 11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn't fall. 13 No temptation has taken you but such as man can bear. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
