PSALMS: 7
1 LORD, my God, I take refuge in you.
Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me,
2 Lest they tear apart my soul like a lion,
Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
3 LORD, my God, if I have done this,
If there is iniquity in my hands,
4 If I have rewarded evil to him who was at shalom with me
(Yes, I have delivered him who without cause was my adversary),
5 Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it;
Yes, let him tread my life down to the eretz,
And lay my glory in the dust. Selah.
6 Arise, LORD, in your anger.
Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries.
Awake for me. You have commanded judgment.
7 Let the congregation of the peoples surround you.
Rule over them on high.
8 The LORD administers judgment to the peoples.
Judge me, LORD, according to my righteousness,
And to my integrity that is in me.
9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end,
But establish the righteous;
Their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God.
10 My shield is with God,
Who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a righteous judge,
Yes, a God who has indignation every day.
12 If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword;
He has bent and strung his bow.
13 He has also prepared for himself the instruments of death.
He makes ready his flaming arrows.
14 Behold, he travails with iniquity;
Yes, he has conceived mischief and brought forth falsehood.
15 He has dug a hole,
And has fallen into the pit which he made.
16 The trouble he causes shall return to his own head.
His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.
17 I will give thanks to the LORD according to his righteousness,
And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Elyon.
PSALMS: 37
1 Don't fret because of evil-doers,
Neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness.
2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,
And wither like the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good.
Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Also delight yourself in the LORD,
And he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD.
Trust also in him, and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness go forth as the light,
And your justice as the noon day sun.
7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.
Don't fret because of him who prospers in his way,
Because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.
8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath.
Don't fret, it leads only to evildoing.
9 For evildoers shall be cut off,
But those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more.
Yes, though you look for his place, he isn't there.
11 But the humble shall inherit the land,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of shalom.
12 The wicked plots against the just,
And gnashes at him with his teeth.
13 The Lord will laugh at him,
For he sees that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn out the sword,
and have bent their bow,
To cast down the poor and needy,
To kill those who are upright in the way.
15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart.
Their bows shall be broken.
16 Better is a little that the righteous has,
Than the abundance of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
But the LORD upholds the righteous.
18 The LORD knows the days of the perfect.
Their inheritance shall be forever.
19 They shall not be put to shame in the time of evil.
In the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20 But the wicked shall perish.
The enemies of the LORD shall be like the beauty of the fields.
They will vanish -- Vanish like smoke.
21 The wicked borrow, and don't pay back,
But the righteous give generously.
22 For such as are blessed by him shall inherit the land.
Those who are cursed by him shall be cut off.
23 A man's goings are established by the LORD.
He delights in his way.
24 Though he stumble, he shall not fall,
For the LORD holds him up with his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old,
Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
Nor his children begging for bread.
26 All day long he deals graciously, and lends.
His seed is blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good;
Live securely forever.
28 For the LORD loves justice,
And doesn't forsake his holy ones.
They are preserved forever,
But the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land,
And live in it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous talks of wisdom.
His tongue speaks justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart.
None of his steps shall slide.
32 The wicked watches the righteous,
And seeks to kill him.
33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand,
Nor condemn him when he is judged.
34 Wait for the LORD, and keep his way,
And he will exalt you to inherit the land.
When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
35 I have seen the wicked in great power,
Spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil.
36 But he passed away, and, behold, he was not.
Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.
37 Mark the perfect man, and see the upright,
For there is a future for the man of shalom.
38 As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together.
The future of the wicked shall be cut off.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD.
He is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
40 The LORD helps them, and rescues them.
He rescues them from the wicked, and saves them,
Because they have taken refuge in him.
PSALMS: 67
1 May God be merciful to us, bless us,
And cause his face to shine on us. Selah.
2 That your way may be known on eretz,
And your yeshu`ah among all nations,
3 Let the peoples praise you, God.
Let all the peoples praise you.
4 Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
For you will judge the peoples with equity,
And govern the nations on eretz.
Selah.
5 Let the peoples praise you, God.
Let all the peoples praise you.
6 The eretz has yielded its increase.
God, even our own God, will bless us.
7 God will bless us.
All the ends of the eretz shall fear him.
PSALMS: 97
1 The LORD reigns!
Let the eretz rejoice.
Let the multitude of islands be glad.
2 Clouds and darkness are around him.
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
3 A fire goes before him,
And burns up his adversaries on every side.
4 His lightning lights up the world;
The eretz sees, and trembles.
5 The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD,
At the presence of the Lord of the whole eretz.
6 The heavens declare his righteousness.
All the peoples have seen his glory.
7 Let all them be put to shame who serve engraved images,
Who boast in their idols.
Worship him, all you gods!
8 Tziyon heard and was glad.
The daughters of Yehudah rejoiced,
Because of your judgments, LORD.
9 For you, LORD, are most high above all the eretz.
You are exalted far above all gods.
10 You who love the LORD, hate evil.
He preserves the souls of his holy ones.
He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is sown for the righteous,
And gladness for the upright in heart.
12 Be glad in the LORD, you righteous people!
Give thanks to his holy Name.
PSALMS: 127
1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
The watchman guards it in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
To stay up late, Eating the bread of toil;
For he gives sleep to his loved ones.
3 Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD.
The fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows in the hand of a mighty man,
So are the children of youth.
5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them.
They won't be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
PROVERBS: 7
1 My son, keep my words.
Lay up my mitzvot within you.
2 Keep my mitzvot and live;
Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers.
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Tell wisdom, "You are my sister."
Call understanding your relative,
5 That they may keep you from the strange woman,
From the foreigner who flatters with her words.
6 For at the window of my house,
I looked forth through my lattice.
7 I saw among the simple ones.
I discerned among the youths a young man void of understanding,
8Passing through the street near her corner,
He went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening of the day,
In the middle of the night and in the darkness.
10 Behold, there a woman met him with the attire of a prostitute,
And with crafty intent.
11 She is loud and defiant.
Her feet don't stay in her house.
12 Now she is in the streets, now in the squares,
And lurking at every corner.
13 So she caught him, and kissed him.
With an impudent face she said to him:
14 "Sacrifices of peace-offerings are with me.
This day I have paid my vows.
15 Therefore I came out to meet you,
To diligently seek your face, And I have found you.
16 I have spread my couch with carpets of tapestry,
With striped cloths of the yarn of Mitzrayim.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh,
aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let's take our fill of loving until the morning.
Let's solace ourselves with loving.
19 For my husband isn't at home.
He has gone on a long journey.
20 He has taken a bag of money with him.
He will come home at the full moon."
21 With persuasive words, she led him astray.
With the flattering of her lips, she seduced him.
22 He followed her immediately,
As an ox goes to the slaughter,
As a fool stepping into a noose.
23 Until an arrow strikes through his liver,
As a bird hurries to the snare,
And doesn't know that it will cost his life.
24 Now therefore, sons, listen to me.
Pay attention to the words of my mouth.
25 Don't let your heart turn to her ways.
Don't go astray in her paths,
26 For she has thrown down many wounded.
Yes, all her slain are a mighty host.
27 Her house is the way to She'ol,
Going down to the chambers of death.
OLD TESTAMENT: 2 CHRONICLES 19:1 - 20:37
19:1 Yehoshafat the king of Yehudah returned to his house in shalom to Yerushalayim. 2 Yehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Yehoshafat, Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate the LORD? for this thing wrath is on you from before the LORD. 3 Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have put away the Asherot out of the land, and have set your heart to seek God. 4 Yehoshafat lived at Yerushalayim: and he went out again among the people from Be'er-Sheva to the hill-country of Efrayim, and brought them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers. 5 He set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Yehudah, city by city, 6 and said to the judges, Consider what you do: for you don't judge for man, but for the LORD; and [he is] with you in the judgment. 7 Now therefore let the fear of the LORD be on you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes. 8 Moreover in Yerushalayim did Yehoshafat set of the Levites and the Kohanim, and of the heads of the fathers' [houses] of Yisra'el, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies. They returned to Yerushalayim. 9 He charged them, saying, Thus shall you do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart. 10 Whenever any controversy shall come to you from your brothers who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and mitzvah, statutes and ordinances, you shall warn them, that they not be guilty towards the LORD, and so wrath come on you and on your brothers: this do, and you shall not be guilty. 11 Behold, Amaryah the chief Kohen is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zevadyah the son of Yishma'el, the ruler of the house of Yehudah, in all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the LORD be with the good.
20:1 It happened after this, that the children of Mo'av, and the children of `Ammon, and with them some of the Me`unim, came against Yehoshafat to battle. 2 Then there came some who told Yehoshafat, saying, There comes a great multitude against you from beyond the sea from Aram; and, behold, they are in Hatzatzon-Tamar (the same is `En-Gedi). 3 Yehoshafat feared, and set himself to seek to the LORD; and he proclaimed a fast throughout all Yehudah. 4 Yehudah gathered themselves together, to seek [help] of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Yehudah they came to seek the LORD.
5 Yehoshafat stood in the assembly of Yehudah and Yerushalayim, in the house of the LORD, before the new court; 6 and he said, LORD, the God of our fathers, aren't you God in heaven? and aren't you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? and in your hand is power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. 7 Did not you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Yisra'el, and give it to the seed of Avraham your friend forever? 8 They lived therein, and have built you a sanctuary therein for your name, saying, 9 If evil come on us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house, and before you, (for your name is in this house,) and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save. 10 Now, behold, the children of `Ammon and Mo'av and Mount Se`ir, whom you would not let Yisra'el invade, when they came out of the land of Mitzrayim, but they turned aside from them, and didn't destroy them; 11 behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. 12 Our God, will you not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: but out eyes are on you. 13 All Yehudah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. 14 Then on Yachazi'el the son of Zekharyah, the son of Benayah, the son of Ye`i'el, the son of Mattanyah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaf, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the assembly; 15 and he said, Listen you, all Yehudah, and you inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and you king Yehoshafat: Thus says the LORD to you, Don't be afraid you, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. 16 Tomorrow go you down against them: behold, they come up by the ascent of Tzitz; and you shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Yeru'el. 17 You shall not need to fight in this [battle]: set yourselves, stand you still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Yehudah and Yerushalayim; don't be afraid, nor be dismayed: tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD is with you. 18 Yehoshafat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim fell down before the LORD, worshipping the LORD. 19 The Levites, of the children of the Kehati and of the children of the Korchi, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, with an exceeding loud voice. 20 They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Yehoshafat stood and said, Hear me, Yehudah, and you inhabitants of Yerushalayim: believe in the LORD your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, so shall you prosper. 21 When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and give praise in holy array, as they went out before the army, and say, Give thanks to the LORD; for his lovingkindness endures forever. 22 When they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set liers-in-wait against the children of `Ammon, Mo'av, and Mount Se`ir, who had come against Yehudah; and they were struck. 23 For the children of `Ammon and Mo'av stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Se`ir, utterly to kill and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Se`ir, everyone helped to destroy another. 24 When Yehudah came to the watch-tower of the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the eretz, and there were none who escaped. 25 When Yehoshafat and his people came to take the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much. 26 On the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berakha; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of that place was called The valley of Berakha to this day. 27 Then they returned, every man of Yehudah and Yerushalayim, and Yehoshafat in the forefront of them, to go again to Yerushalayim with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies. 28 They came to Yerushalayim with psalteries and harps and trumpets to the house of the LORD. 29 The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Yisra'el. 30 So the realm of Yehoshafat was quiet; for his God gave him rest round about. 31 Yehoshafat reigned over Yehudah: he was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Yerushalayim: and his mother's name was `Azuvah the daughter of Shilchi. 32 He walked in the way of Asa his father, and didn't turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of the LORD. 33 However the high places were not taken away; neither as yet had the people set their hearts to the God of their fathers. 34 Now the rest of the acts of Yehoshafat, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Yehu the son of Hanani, which is inserted in the book of the kings of Yisra'el. 35 After this did Yehoshafat king of Yehudah join himself with Achazyah king of Yisra'el; the same did very wickedly: 36 and he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish; and they made the ships in `Etzyon-Gever.
37 Then Eli`ezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Yehoshafat, saying, Because you have joined yourself with Achazyah, the LORD has destroyed your works. The ships were broken, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
NEW TESTAMENT: ROMANS 10:14 - 11:12
10:14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? 15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of shalom, Who bring glad tidings of good things!" 16 But they didn't all listen to the glad news. For Yesha`yahu says, "Lord, who has believed our report?" 17 So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. 18 But I say, didn't they hear? Yes, most assuredly, "Their sound went out into all the eretz, Their words to the ends of the world." 19 But I ask, didn't Yisra'el know? First Moshe says, "I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation, With a nation void of understanding I will make you angry." 20 Yesha`yahu is very bold, and says, "I was found by those who didn't seek me. I was revealed to those who didn't ask for me." 21 But as to Yisra'el he says, "All day long I stretched out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.
11:1 I ask then, Did God reject his people? May it never be! For I also am an Yisra'elite, a descendant of Avraham, of the tribe of Binyamin. 2 God didn't reject his people, which he foreknew. Or don't you know what the Scripture says about Eliyah? How he pleads with God against Yisra'el: 3 "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have broken down your altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life." 4 But how does God answer him? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Ba`al." 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. 7 What then? That which Yisra'el seeks for, that he didn't obtain, but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened. 8 According as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day." 9 David says, "Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, A stumbling block, and a retribution to them. 10 Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see. Bow down their back always." 11 I ask then, did they stumble that they might fall? May it never be! But by their fall salvation has come to the Goyim, to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Now if their fall is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the Goyim; how much more their fullness?
