JANUARY 27

PSALMS: 27, 57, 87, 117, 147

PROVERBS: 27

OLD TESTAMENT: JOSHUA 16:1 - 18:28

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 19:1 - 27

Psalms 27

1 The LORD is my light and my salvation.

Whom shall I fear?

The LORD is the strength of my life.

Of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When evil-doers came at me to eat up my flesh,

Even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

3 Though a host should encamp against me,

My heart shall not fear.

Though war should rise against me,

Even then I will be confident.

4 One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after,

That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,

To see the beauty of the LORD,

And to inquire in his temple.

5 For in the day of trouble he will keep me secretly in his pavilion.

In the covert of his tent will he hide me.

He will lift me up on a rock.

6 Now shall my head be lifted up above my enemies around me.

I will offer sacrifices of joy in his tent.

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.

7 Hear, LORD, when I cry with my voice.

Have mercy also on me, and answer me.

8 When you said, "Seek my face,"

My heart said to you,

"I will seek your face, LORD."

9 Don't hide your face from me.

Don't put your servant away in anger.

You have been my help.

Don't abandon me, neither forsake me,

God of my salvation.

10 When my father and my mother forsake me,

Then the LORD will take me up.

11 Teach me your way, LORD.

Lead me in a straight path, because of my enemies.

12 Don't deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries,

For false witnesses have risen up against me,

Such as breathe out cruelty.

13 I am still confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

14 Wait for the LORD.

Be strong, and let your heart take courage.

Yes, wait for the LORD.

PSALMS: 57

1 Be merciful to me, God, be merciful to me,

For my soul takes refuge in you.

Yes, in the shadow of your wings,

I will take refuge,

Until disaster has passed.

2 I cry out to El `Elyon,

To God who accomplishes my requests for me.

3 He will send from heaven, and save me,

He rebukes the one who is pursuing me.

Selah.

God will send out his loving kindness and his truth.

4 My soul is among lions.

I lie among those who are set on fire,

Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows,

And their tongue a sharp sword.

5 Be exalted, God, above the heavens!

Let your glory be above all the eretz!

6 They have prepared a net for my steps.

My soul is bowed down.

They dig a pit before me.

They fall into the midst of it themselves.

Selah.

7 My heart is steadfast, God, my heart is steadfast.

I will sing, yes,

I will sing praises.

8 Wake up, my glory!

Wake up, psaltery and harp!

I will wake up the dawn.

9 I will give thanks to you, Lord, among the peoples.

I will sing praises to you among the nations.

10 For your great loving kindness reaches to the heavens,

And your truth to the skies.

11 Be exalted, God, above the heavens.

Let your glory be over all the eretz.

PSALMS: 87

1 His foundation is in the holy mountains.

2 The LORD loves the gates of Tziyon More than all the dwellings of Ya`akov.

3 Glorious things are spoken about you, city of God.

Selah.

4 I will record Rachav and Bavel among those who acknowledge me.

Behold, Peleshet, Tzor, and also Kush:

"This one was born there."

5 Yes, of Tziyon it will be said,

"This one and that one was born in her;"

The Elyon himself will establish her.

6 The LORD will count, when he writes up the peoples,

"This one was born there."

Selah.

7 Those who sing as well as those who dance say, "

All my springs are in you."

PSALMS: 117

1 Praise the LORD, all you nations!

Extol him, all you peoples!

2 For his loving kindness is great toward us.

The LORD's faithfulness endures forever.

Praise the LORD!

PSALMS: 147

1 Praise the LORD,

For it is good to sing praises to our God;

For it is pleasant and fitting to praise him.

2 The LORD builds up Yerushalayim.

He gathers together the outcasts of Yisra'el.

3 He heals the broken in heart,

And binds up their wounds.

4 He counts the number of the stars.

He calls them all by their names.

5 Great is our Lord, and mighty in power.

His understanding is infinite.

6 The LORD upholds the humble.

He brings the wicked down to the ground.

7  Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving.

Sing praises on the harp to our God,

8 Who covers the sky with clouds,

Who prepares rain for the eretz,

Who makes grass grow on the mountains.

9 He provides food for the cattle,

And for the young ravens when they call.

10 He doesn't delight in the strength of the horse.

He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him,

In those who hope in his loving kindness.

12 Praise the LORD, Yerushalayim!

Praise your God, Tziyon!

13 For he has strengthened the bars of your gates.

He has blessed your children within you.

14He makes shalom in your borders.

He fills you with the finest of the wheat.

15 He sends out his mitzvah on eretz.

His word runs very swiftly.

16 He gives snow like wool,

And scatters frost like ashes.

17  He hurls down his hail like pebbles.

Who can stand before his cold?

18 He sends out his word, and melts them.

He causes his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

19 He shows his word to Ya`akov;

His statutes and his ordinances to Yisra'el.

20 He has not done this for any nation;

They don't know his ordinances.

Praise the LORD!

PROVERBS: 27

1 Don't boast about tomorrow;

For you don't know what a day may bring forth.

2 Let another man praise you,

And not your own mouth;

A stranger, and not your own lips.

3 A stone is heavy, And sand is a burden;

But a fool's provocation is heavier than both.

4 Wrath is cruel,

And anger is overwhelming;

But who is able to stand before jealousy?

5 Better is open rebuke Than hidden love.

6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend;

Although the kisses of an enemy are profuse.

7 A full soul loathes a honeycomb;

But to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet.

8 As a bird that wanders from her nest,

So is a man who wanders from his home.

9 Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart;

So does earnest counsel from a man's friend.

10 Don't forsake your friend and your father's friend.

Don't go to your brother's house in the day of your disaster:

Better is a neighbor who is near than a distant brother.

11 Be wise, my son,

And bring joy to my heart,

Then I can answer my tormentor.

12 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge;

But the simple pass on, and suffer for it:

13 Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger;

Hold it for a wayward woman!

14 He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning,

It will be taken as a curse by him.

15 A continual dropping on a rainy day

And a contentious wife are alike:

16 Restraining her is like restraining the wind,

Or like grasping oil in his right hand.

17 Iron sharpens iron;

So a man sharpens his friend's countenance.

18 Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit.

He who looks after his master shall be honored.

19 As water reflects a face,

So a man's heart reflects the man.

20 She'ol and Avaddon are never satisfied;

And a man's eyes are never satisfied.

21 The crucible is for silver,

And the furnace for gold;

But man is refined by his praise.

22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain,

Yet his foolishness will not be removed from him.

23 Know well the state of your flocks,

And pay attention to your herds:

24 For riches are not forever,

Nor does even the crown endure to all generations.

25 The hay is removed, and the new growth appears,

The grasses of the hills are gathered in.

26 The lambs are for your clothing,

And the goats are the price of a field.

27 There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food,

For your family's food,

And for the nourishment of your servant girls.

OLD TESTAMENT: JOSHUA 16:1 - 18:28

16:1 The lot came out for the children of Yosef from the Yarden at Yericho, at the waters of Yericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Yericho through the hill-country to Beit-El; 2 and it went out from Beit-El to Luz, and passed along to the border of the Arki to `Atrot; 3 and it went down westward to the border of the Yafleti, to the border of Beit-Horon the lower, even to Gezer; and the goings out of it were at the sea. 4 The children of Yosef, Menashsheh and Efrayim, took their inheritance. 5 The border of the children of Efrayim according to their families was [thus]: the border of their inheritance eastward was `Atarot-Addar, to Beit-Horon the upper; 6 and the border went out westward at Mikhmetat on the north; and the border turned about eastward to Ta'anat-Shiloh, and passed along it on the east of Yano`ach; 7 and it went down from Yano`ach to `Atrot, and to Na`arah, and reached to Yericho, and went out at the Yarden. 8 From Tappuach the border went along westward to the brook of Kanah; and the goings out of it were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Efrayim according to their families; 9 together with the cities which were set apart for the children of Efrayim in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Menashsheh, all the cities with their villages. 10 They didn't drive out the Kana`anim who lived in Gezer: but the Kana`anim dwell in the midst of Efrayim to this day, and are become servants to do forced labor.

17:1 [This] was the lot for the tribe of Menashsheh; for he was the firstborn of Yosef. As for Makhir the firstborn of Menashsheh, the father of Gil`ad, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gil`ad and Bashan. 2 So [the lot] was for the rest of the children of Menashsheh according to their families: for the children of Avi-Ezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asri'el, and for the children of Shekhem, and for the children of Hefer, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Menashsheh the son of Yosef according to their families. 3 But Tzelohchad, the son of Hefer, the son of Gil`ad, the son of Makhir, the son of Menashsheh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlach, and No`ah, Hoglah, Milkah, and Tirtzah. 4 They came near before El`azar the Kohen, and before Yehoshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, the LORD commanded Moshe to give us an inheritance among our brothers: therefore according to the mitzvah of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father. 5 There fell ten parts to Menashsheh, besides the land of Gil`ad and Bashan, which is beyond the Yarden; 6 because the daughters of Menashsheh had an inheritance among his sons. The land of Gil`ad belonged to the rest of the sons of Menashsheh. 7  The border of Menashsheh was from Asher to Mikhmetat, which is before Shekhem; and the border went along to the right hand, to the inhabitants of `Entappu'ach. 8 The land of Tappuach belonged to Menashsheh; but Tappuach on the border of Menashsheh belonged to the children of Efrayim. 9 The border went down to the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook: these cities belonged to Efrayim among the cities of Menashsheh: and the border of Menashsheh was on the north side of the brook, and the goings out of it were at the sea: 10 southward it was Efrayim's, and northward it was Menashsheh's, and the sea was his border; and they reached to Asher on the north, and to Yissakhar on the east. 11 Menashsheh had in Yissakhar and in Asher Beit-She'an and its towns, and Yivle`am and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Ta`nakh and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three heights. 12 Yet the children of Menashsheh couldn't drive out [the inhabitants of] those cities; but the Kana`anim would dwell in that land. 13 It happened, when the children of Yisra'el had grown strong, that they put the Kana`anim to forced labor, and didn't utterly drive them out. 14 The children of Yosef spoke to Yehoshua, saying, Why have you given me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, because hitherto the LORD has blessed me? 15 Yehoshua said to them, If you are a great people, go up to the forest, and cut down for yourself there in the land of the Perizzi and of the Refa'im; since the hill-country of Efrayim is too narrow for you. 16 The children of Yosef said, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the Kana`anim who dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are in Beit-She'an and its towns, and they who are in the valley of Yizre`el. 17  Yehoshua spoke to the house of Yosef, even to Efrayim and to Menashsheh, saying, You are a great people, and have great power; you shall not have one lot only: 18 but the hill-country shall be yours; for though it is a forest, you shall cut it down, and the goings out of it shall be your; for you shall drive out the Kana`anim, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.

18:1 The whole congregation of the children of Yisra'el assembled themselves together at Shiloh, and set up the tent of meeting there: and the land was subdued before them. 2 There remained among the children of Yisra'el seven tribes, which had not yet divided their inheritance. 3 Yehoshua said to the children of Yisra'el, How long are you slack to go in to possess the land, which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you? 4 Appoint for you three men of each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall arise, and walk through the land, and describe it according to their inheritance; and they shall come to me. 5 They shall divide it into seven portions: Yehudah shall abide in his border on the south, and the house of Yosef shall abide in their border on the north. 6 You shall describe the land into seven portions, and bring [the description] here to me; and I will cast lots for you here before the LORD our God. 7 For the Levites have no portion among you; for the priesthood of the LORD is their inheritance: and Gad and Re'uven and the half-tribe of Menashsheh have received their inheritance beyond the Yarden eastward, which Moshe the servant of the LORD gave them. 8 The men arose, and went: and Yehoshua charged those who went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me; and I will cast lots for you here before the LORD in Shiloh. 9 The men went and passed through the land, and described it by cities into seven portions in a book; and they came to Yehoshua to the camp at Shiloh. 10 Yehoshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: and there Yehoshua divided the land to the children of Yisra'el according to their divisions. 11 The lot of the tribe of the children of Binyamin came up according to their families: and the border of their lot went out between the children of Yehudah and the children of Yosef. 12 Their border on the north quarter was from the Yarden; and the border went up to the side of Yericho on the north, and went up through the hill-country westward; and the goings out of it were at the wilderness of Beit-Aven. 13 The border passed along from there to Luz, to the side of Luz (the same is Beit-El), southward; and the border went down to `Atarot-Addar, by the mountain that lies on the south of Beit-Horon the lower. 14 The border extended [there], and turned about on the west quarter southward, from the mountain that lies before Beit-Horon southward; and the goings out of it were at Kiryat-Ba`al (the same is Kiryat-Ye`arim), a city of the children of Yehudah: this was the west quarter. 15 The south quarter was from the uttermost part of Kiryat-Ye`arim; and the border went out westward, and went out to the spring of the waters of Nefto'ach; 16 and the border went down to the uttermost part of the mountain that lies before the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is in the valley of Refa'im northward; and it went down to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Yevusi southward, and went down to `En-Rogel; 17 and it extended northward, and went out at `En-Shemesh, and went out to Gelilot, which is over against the ascent of Adummim; and it went down to the stone of Bohan the son of Re'uven; 18 and it passed along to the side over against the `Aravah northward, and went down to the `Aravah; 19 and the border passed along to the side of Beit-Hoglah northward; and the goings out of the border were at the north bay of the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Yarden: this was the south border. 20 The Yarden was the border of it on the east quarter. This was the inheritance of the children of Binyamin, by the borders of it round about, according to their families. 21 Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Binyamin according to their families were Yericho, and Beit-Hoglah, and Emek-Ketzitz, 22 and Beit-Ha`aravah, and Tzemaryim, and Beit-El, 23 and `Avvim, and Parah, and Ofrat, 24 and Khefar-Ha`ammoni, and `Ofni, and Geva; twelve cities with their villages: 25 Giv`on, and Ramah, and Be'erot, 26 and Mitzpeh, and Kefirah, and Motzah, 27 and Rekem, and Yirp'el, and Tar'alah, 28 and Tzelah, Elef, and the Yevusi (the same is Yerushalayim), Giv`at, [and] Kiryat; fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Binyamin according to their families.

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 19:1 - 27

19:1 He entered and was passing through Yericho.

2 There was a man named Zakkai. He was a chief tax collector, and he was rich.

3 He was trying to see who Yeshua was, and couldn't because of the crowd, because he was short.

4 He ran on ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was to pass that way.

5 When Yeshua came to the place, he looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zakkai, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house."

6 He hurried, came down, and received him joyfully.

7 When they saw it, they all murmured, saying, "He has gone in to lodge with a man who is a sinner."

8 Zakkai stood and said to the Lord, "Behold, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor. If I have wrongfully exacted anything of anyone, I restore four times as much."

9 Yeshua said to him, "Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Avraham.

10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost."

11 As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Yerushalayim, and they supposed that the kingdom of God would be revealed immediately.

12 He said therefore, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

13 He called ten servants of his, and gave them ten minas, and told them, 'Conduct business until I come.'

14 But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, 'We don't want this man to reign over us.'

15 "It happened when he had come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by conducting business.

16 The first came before him, saying, 'Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.'

17 "He said to him, 'Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.'

18 "The second came, saying, 'Your mina, Lord, has made five minas.'

19 "He said to him also, 'You also are to be over five cities.'

20 Another came, saying, 'Lord, behold, your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief,

21 for I feared you, because you are an exacting man. You take up that which you didn't lay down, and reap that which you didn't sow.'

22 "He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant! You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I didn't lay down, and reaping that which I didn't sow.

23 Then why didn't you deposit my money in the bank, and I at my coming might have earned interest on it?'

24 He said to those who stood by, 'Take the mina away from him, and give it to him who has the ten minas.'

25 "They said to him, 'Lord, he has ten minas!'

26 'For I tell you that to everyone who has, will more be given; but from him who doesn't have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.

27 But bring those enemies of mine who didn't want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'"

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
