1 Why do you stand far off, LORD?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance, the wicked hunt down the weak;
They are caught in the schemes that they devise.
3 For the wicked boasts of his heart's cravings,
He blesses the greedy, and condemns the LORD.
4 The wicked, in the pride of his face,
Has no room in his thoughts for God.
5 His ways are prosperous at all times;
He is haughty, and your laws are far from his sight:
As for all his adversaries, he sneers at them.
6 He says in his heart, "I shall not be shaken;
For generations I shall have no trouble."
7 His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and oppression.
Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.
8 He lies in wait near the villages.
From ambushes, he murders the innocent.
His eyes are secretly set against the helpless.
9 He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless.
He catches the helpless, when he draws him in his net.
10 The helpless are crushed, they collapse,
They fall under his strength.
11 He says in his heart, "God has forgotten.
He hides his face. He will never see it."
12 Arise, LORD! God, lift up your hand!
Don't forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked condemn God,
And say in his heart, "God won't call me into account?"
14 But you do see trouble and grief;
You consider it to take it into your hand.
You help the victim and the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked.
As for the evil man, seek out his wickedness until you find none.
16 The LORD is King forever and ever!
The nations will perish out of his land.
17 LORD, you have heard the desire of the humble.
You will prepare their heart.
You will cause your ear to hear,
18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,
That man who is of the eretz may terrify no more.
PSALMS: 40
1 I waited patiently for the LORD.
He turned to me, and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay.
He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God.
Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
4 Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust,
And doesn't respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.
5 Many, LORD, my God, are the wonderful works which you have done,
And your thoughts which are toward us.
They can't be set in order to you;
If I would declare and speak of them,
they are more than can be numbered.
6 Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire.
My ears have you opened:
Burnt offering and sin offering have you not required.
7 Then I said, "Behold, I have come.
It is written about me in the book in the scroll.
8 I delight to do your will, my God.
Yes, your law is within my heart."
9 I have proclaimed glad news of righteousness in the great assembly.
Behold, I will not seal my lips, LORD, you know.
10 I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart.
I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation.
I have not concealed your loving kindness and your truth from the great assembly.
11 Don't withhold your tender mercies from me, LORD.
Let your loving kindness and your truth continually preserve me.
12 For innumerable evils have surrounded me.
My iniquities have overtaken me,
so that I am not able to look up.
They are more than the hairs of my head.
My heart has failed me.
13 Be pleased, LORD, to deliver me.
Hurry to help me, LORD.
14 Let them be put to shame and confounded together
who seek after my soul to destroy it.
Let them be turned backward and
brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt.
15 Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, "Aha! Aha!"
16 Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.
Let such as love your salvation say continually,
"Let the LORD be exalted!"
17 But I am poor and needy;
May the Lord think about me.
You are my help and my deliverer.
Don't delay, my God.
PSALMS: 70
1 Hurry, God, to deliver me.
Come quickly to help me, LORD.
2 Let them be put to shame and confounded who seek my soul.
Let those who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.
3 Let them be turned because of their shame
Who say, "Aha! Aha!"
4 Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you.
Let those who love your yeshu`ah continually say,
"Let God be exalted!"
5 But I am poor and needy.
Come to me quickly, God.
You are my help and my deliverer,
LORD, don't delay.
PSALMS: 100
1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all you lands!
2 Serve the LORD with gladness.
Come before his presence with singing.
3 Know that the LORD, he is God.
It is he who has made us, and we are his.
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving,
Into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, and bless his name.
5 For the LORD is good.
His loving kindness endures forever,
His faithfulness to all generations.
PSALMS: 130
1 Out of the depths I have cried to you, LORD.
2 Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions.
3 If you, the LORD, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you,
Therefore you are feared.
5 I wait for the LORD.
My soul waits.
I hope in his word.
6 My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning;
More than watchmen for the morning.
7 Yisra'el, hope in the LORD,
For with the LORD there is loving kindness.
With him is abundant redemption.
8 He will redeem Yisra'el from all their sins.
PROVERBS: 10
1 The proverbs of Shlomo.
A wise son makes a glad father;
But a foolish son brings grief to his mother.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing,
But righteousness delivers from death.
3 The LORD will not allow the soul of the righteous to go hungry,
But he thrusts away the desire of the wicked.
4 He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand,
But the hand of the diligent brings wealth.
5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son,
But he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous,
But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the righteous is blessed,
But the name of the wicked will rot.
8 The wise in heart accept mitzvot,
But a chattering fool will fall.
9 He who walks blamelessly walks surely,
But he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10 One winking with the eye causes sorrow,
But a chattering fool will fall.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a spring of life,
But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all wrongs.
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment,
But a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge,
But the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city.
The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labor of the righteous leads to life.
The increase of the wicked leads to sin.
17 He is in the way of life who heeds correction,
But he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.
18 He who hides hatred has lying lips.
He who utters a slander is a fool.
19 In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience,
But he who restrains his lips does wisely.
20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver.
The heart of the wicked is of little worth.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many,
But the foolish die for lack of understanding.
22 The blessing of the LORD brings wealth,
And he adds no trouble to it.
23 It is a fool's pleasure to do wickedness,
But wisdom is a man of understanding's pleasure.
24 What the wicked fear, will overtake them,
But the desire of the righteous will be granted.
25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more;
But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes,
So is the sluggard to those who send him.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongs days,
But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy,
But the hope of the wicked will perish.
29 The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright,
But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
30 The righteous will never be removed,
But the wicked will not dwell in the land.
31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom,
But the perverse tongue will be cut off.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
But the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
OLD TESTAMENT: DEUTERONOMY 18:1 - 20:20
18:1 The Kohanim the Levites, [even] all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor inheritance with Yisra'el: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance. 2 They shall have no inheritance among their brothers: the LORD is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them. 3 This shall be the Kohanim' due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give to the Kohen the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw. 4 The first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, shall you give him. 5 For the LORD your God has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand to minister in the name of the LORD, him and his sons for ever. 6 If a Levite come from any of your gates out of all Yisra'el, where he sojourns, and come with all the desire of his soul to the place which the LORD shall choose; 7 then he shall minister in the name of the LORD his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before the LORD. 8 They shall have like portions to eat, besides that which comes of the sale of his patrimony. 9 When you are come into the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, 11 or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD your God does drive them out from before you. 13 You shall be perfect with the LORD your God. 14 For these nations, that you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice sorcery, and to diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you so to do. 15 The LORD your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me; to him you shall listen; 16 according to all that you desired of the LORD your God in Horev in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I not die. 17 The LORD said to me, They have well said that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. 19 It shall happen, that whoever will not listen to my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet, who shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die. 21 If you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken? 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing doesn't follow, nor happen, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken: the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you shall not be afraid of him.
19:1 When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and see horses, and chariots, [and] a people more than you, you shall not be afraid of them; for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Mitzrayim. 2 It shall be, when you draw near to the battle, that the Kohen shall approach and speak to the people, 3 and shall tell them, Hear, Yisra'el, you draw near this day to battle against your enemies: don't let your heart faint; don't be afraid, nor tremble, neither be scared of them; 4 for the LORD your God is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
5 The officers shall speak to the people, saying, What man is there who has built a new house, and has not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it. 6 What man is there who has planted a vineyard, and has not used the fruit of it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use the fruit of it. 7 What man is there who has pledged to be married a wife, and has not taken her? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her. 8 The officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, What man is there who is fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return to his house, lest his brother's heart melt as his heart. 9 It shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, that they shall appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people. 10 When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim shalom to it. 11 It shall be, if it make you answer of shalom, and open to you, then it shall be, that all the people who are found therein shall become tributary to you, and shall serve you. 12 If it will make no shalom with you, but will make war against you, then you shall besiege it: 13 and when the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword: 14 but the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil of it, shall you take for a prey to yourself; and you shall eat the spoil of your enemies, which the LORD your God has given you. 15 Thus shall you do to all the cities which are very far off from you, which are not of the cities of these nations. 16 But of the cities of these peoples, that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes; 17 but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amori, the Kana`ani, and the Perizzi, the Hivvi, and the Yevusi; as the LORD your God has commanded you; 18 that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against the LORD your God. 19 When you shall besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy the trees of it by wielding an ax against them; for you may eat of them, and you shall not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of you? 20 Only the trees of which you know that they are not trees for food, you shall destroy and cut them down; and you shall build bulwarks against the city that makes war with you, until it fall.

NEW TESTAMENT: LUKE 9:28 - 50
9:28 It happened about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Kefa, Yochanan, and Ya`akov, and went up onto the mountain to pray.
29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.
30Behold, two men talked with him, who were Moshe and Eliyah,
31 who appeared in glory, and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Yerushalayim.
32 Now Kefa and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.
33 It happened, as they were parting from him, that Kefa said to Yeshua, "Master, it is good for us to be here. Let's make three tents: one for you, and one for Moshe, and one for Eliyah," not knowing what he said.
34 While he said these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud.
35 A voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!"
36 When the voice came, Yeshua was found alone. They were silent, and told no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.
37 It happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met him.
38 Behold, a man from the crowd called out, saying, "Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.
39 Behold, a spirit takes him, he suddenly cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams, and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely.
40 I begged your talmidim to cast it out, and they couldn't."
41 Yeshua answered, "Faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here."
42 While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Yeshua rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.
43 They were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marveling at all the things which Yeshua did, he said to his talmidim,
44 "Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men."
45 But they didn't understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
46 There arose an argument among them about which of them was the greatest.
47 Yeshua, perceiving the reasoning of their heart, took a little child, and set him by his side,
48 and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great."
49 Yochanan answered, "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn't follow with us."
50 Yeshua said to him, "Don't forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us."
