SEPTEMBER 17

PSALMS:  17, 47, 77, 107, 137

PROVERBS:  17

OLD TESTAMENT:  HOSEA 6:1 - 9:19

NEW TESTAMENT:  3 JOHN 1:1 - 15

PSALMS:  17

1 Hear, LORD, my righteous plea;
Give ear to my prayer, that doesn't go out of deceitful lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from your presence;
Let your eyes look on equity.
3 You have proved my heart;
you have visited me in the night;
You have tried me, and found nothing;
I have resolved that my mouth shall not disobey.
4 As for the works of men,
by the word of your lips I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to your paths,
My feet have not slipped.
6 I have called on you, for you will answer me, God:
Turn your ear to me.
Hear my speech.
7 Show your marvelous loving kindness,
You who save those who take refuge by
your right hand from their enemies.
8 Keep me as the apple of your eye;
Hide me under the shadow of your wings,
9 From the wicked who oppress me,
My deadly enemies, who compass me about.
10 They close up their callous hearts.
With their mouth they speak proudly.
11 They have now surrounded us in our steps.
They set their eyes to cast us down to the eretz.
12 He is like a lion that is greedy of his prey,
As it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
13 Arise, LORD, Confront him, cast him down.
Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword;
14 From men by your hand, LORD,
From men of the world, whose portion is in this life,
Whose belly you fill with your treasure:
They are satisfied with children,
Leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
15 As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form.

PSALMS:   47

1 Oh clap your hands, all you nations.
Shout to God with the voice of triumph!
2 For the LORD Elyon is awesome.
He is a great King over all the eretz.
3 He subdues nations under us,
And peoples under our feet.
4 He chooses our inheritance for us,
The glory of Ya`akov whom he loved.
Selah.
5 God has gone up with a shout,
The LORD with the sound of a shofar.
6 Sing praise to God, sing praises.
Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the eretz.
Sing praises with understanding.
8 God reigns over the nations.
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples are gathered together,
The people of the God of Avraham.
For the shields of the eretz belong to God.
He is greatly exalted!

PSALMS:   77

1 My cry goes to God! Indeed,
I cry to God for help,
And for him to listen to me.
2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord.
My hand was stretched out in the night, and didn't get tired.
My soul refused to be comforted.
3 I remember God, and I groan.
I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed.
Selah.
4 You hold my eyelids open.
I am so troubled that I can't speak.
5 I have considered the days of old,
The years of ancient times.
6 I remember my song in the night.
I consider in my own heart;
My spirit diligently inquires:
7 "Will the Lord reject us forever?
Will he be favorable no more?
8 Has his loving kindness vanished forever?
Does his promise fail for generations?
9 Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has he, in anger, withheld his compassion?"
Selah.
10Then I thought,
"I will appeal to this:
The years of the right hand of Ha`Elyon."
11 I will remember the LORD's deeds;
For I will remember your wonders of old.
12 I will also meditate on all your work,
And consider your doings.
13 Your way, God, is in the sanctuary.
What god is great like God?
14 You are the God who does wonders.
You have made your strength known among the peoples.
15 You have redeemed your people with your arm,
The sons of Ya`akov and Yosef. Selah.
16 The waters saw you, God.
The waters saw you, and they writhed.
The depths also convulsed.
17 The clouds poured out water.
The skies resounded with thunder.
Your arrows also flashed around.
18 The voice of your thunder was in the whirlwind.
The lightnings lit up the world.
The eretz trembled and shook.
19 Your way was through the sea;
Your paths through the great waters.
Your footsteps were not known.
20 You led your people like a flock,
By the hand of Moshe and Aharon.

PSALMS:   107

1 Give thanks to the LORD,
For he is good,
For his loving kindness endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed by the LORD say so,
Whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
3 Gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way.
They found no city to live in.
5 Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
And he delivered them out of their distresses,
7 He led them also by a straight way,
That they might go to a city to live in.
8 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul.
He fills the hungry soul with good.
10 Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
Being bound in affliction and iron,
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God,
And condemned the counsel of Ha`Elyon.
12 Therefore he brought down their heart with labor.
They fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
And he saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their bonds in sunder.
15 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For he has broken the gates of brass,
And cut through bars of iron.
17  Fools are afflicted because of their disobedience,
And because of their iniquities.
18 Their soul abhors all kinds of food.
They draw near to the gates of death.
19 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble,
He saves them out of their distresses.
20 He sends his word, and heals them,
And delivers them from their graves.
21 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
22 Let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
And declare his works with singing.
23 Those who go down to the sea in ships,
Who do business in great waters;
24 These see the LORD's works,
And his wonders in the deep.
25 For he commands, and raises the stormy wind,
Which lifts up its waves.
26 They mount up to the sky;
they go down again to the depths.
Their soul melts away because of trouble.
27 They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man,
And are at their wits' end.
28 Then they cry to the LORD in their trouble,
He brings them out of their distress.
29 He makes the storm a calm,
So that its waves are still.
30 Then are they glad because it is calm,
So he brings them to their desired haven.
31 Let them praise the LORD for his loving kindness,
For his wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt him also in the assembly of the people,
And praise him in the seat of the Zakenim.
33 He turns rivers into a desert,
Water springs into a thirsty ground,
34 And a fruitful land into a salt waste,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a desert into a pool of water,
And a dry land into water springs.
36 There he makes the hungry to live,
That they may prepare a city to live in,
37  Sow fields, plant vineyards,
And reap the fruits of increase.
38 He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly.
He doesn't allow their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are diminished and bowed down
Through oppression, trouble, and sorrow.
40 He pours contempt on princes,
And causes them to wander in a trackless waste.
41 Yet he lifts the needy out of their affliction,
And increases their families like a flock.
42 The upright will see it, and be glad.
All the wicked will shut their mouths.
43 Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things.
They will consider the loving
kindnesses of the LORD.

PSALMS:   137

1 By the rivers of Bavel, there we sat down.
Yes, we wept, when we remembered Tziyon.
2 On the willows in the midst of it,
We hung up our harps.
3 For there, those who led us captive asked us for songs.
Those who tormented us demanded songs of joy:
"Sing us one of the songs of Tziyon!"
4 How can we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Yerushalayim,
Let my right hand forget its skill.
6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,
If I don't remember you;
If I don't prefer Yerushalayim above my chief joy.
7 Remember, LORD, against the children of Edom,
The day of Yerushalayim;
Who said, "Raze it! Raze it even to its foundation!"
8 Daughter of Bavel, doomed to destruction,
He will be happy who rewards you,
As you have served us.
9 Happy shall he be,
Who takes and dashes your little ones against the rock.

PROVERBS:  17

1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness,
Than a house full of feasting with strife.
2 A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame,
And shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
3 The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold,
But the LORD tests the hearts.
4 An evil-doer gives heed to wicked lips.
A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker.
He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men;
The glory of children are their parents.
7 Arrogant speech isn't fitting for a fool,
Much less do lying lips fit a prince.
8 A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.
9 He who covers an offense promotes love;
But he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
10 A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding
Than a hundred lashes into a fool.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion;
Therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man,
Rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Whoever rewards evil for good,
Evil shall not depart from his house.
14 The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam,
Therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous,
Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
16 Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom,
Seeing he has no understanding?
17 A friend loves at all times;
And a brother is born for adversity.
18 A man void of understanding strikes hands,
And becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
19 He who loves disobedience loves strife.
One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
20 One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity,
And one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
21 He who becomes the father of a fool grieves.
The father of a fool has no joy.
22 A cheerful heart makes good medicine,
But a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
23 A wicked man receives a bribe in secret,
To pervert the ways of justice.
24 Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding,
But the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the eretz.
25 A foolish son brings grief to his father,
And bitterness to her who bore him.
26 Also to punish the righteous is not good,
Nor to flog officials for their integrity.
27 He who spares his words has knowledge.
He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise.
When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.

OLD TESTAMENT:  HOSEA 6:1 - 9:19

6”1 "Come, and let us return to the LORD; For he has torn us to pieces, And he will heal us; He has injured us, And he will bind up our wounds. 2 After two days will he revive us. On the third day he will raise us up, And we will live before him. 3 Let us acknowledge the LORD. Let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, The LORD will appear. He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain that waters the eretz." 4 "Efrayim, what shall I do to you? Yehudah, what shall I do to you? For your love is like a morning cloud, And like the dew that disappears early. 5 Therefore I have cut them to pieces with the prophets; I killed them with the words of my mouth. Your judgments are like a flash of lightning. 6 For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. 7 But they, like Adam, have broken the covenant. They were unfaithful to me, there. 8 Gil`ad is a city of those who work iniquity; It is stained with blood. 9 As gangs of robbers wait to ambush a man, So the company of Kohanim murder in the way toward Shekhem, Committing shameful crimes. 10 In the house of Yisra'el I have seen a horrible thing. There is prostitution in Efrayim. Yisra'el is defiled. 11 "Also, Yehudah, there is a harvest appointed for you, When I restore the fortunes of my people.

7:1 When I would heal Yisra'el, Then the iniquity of Efrayim is uncovered, Also the wickedness of Shomron; For they commit falsehood, And the thief enters in, And the gang of robbers ravages outside. 2 They don't consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own deeds have engulfed them. They are before my face. 3 They make the king glad with their wickedness, And the princes with their lies. 4 They are all adulterers. They are burning like an oven that the baker stops stirring, From the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened. 5 On the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine. He joined his hand with mockers. 6 For they have made ready their heart like an oven, While they lie in wait. Their baker sleeps all the night. In the morning it burns as a flaming fire. 7 They are all hot as an oven, And devour their judges. All their kings have fallen. There is no one among them who calls to me. 8 Efrayim, he mixes himself among the nations. Efrayim is a pancake not turned over. 9 Strangers have devoured his strength, And he doesn't realize it. Indeed, gray hairs are here and there on him, And he doesn't realize it. 10 The pride of Yisra'el testifies to his face; Yet they haven't returned to the LORD their God, Nor sought him, for all this. 11 "Efrayim is like an easily deceived dove, without understanding. They call to Mitzrayim. They go to Ashshur. 12 When they go, I will spread my net on them. I will bring them down like the birds of the sky. I will chastise them, as their congregation has heard. 13 Woe to them! For they have wandered from me. Destruction to them! For they have trespassed against me. Though I would redeem them, Yet they have spoken lies against me. 14 They haven't cried to me with their heart, But they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me. 15 Though I have taught and strengthened their arms, Yet they plot evil against me. 16 They return, but not to Ha`Elyon. They are like a faulty bow. Their princes will fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue. This will be their derision in the land of Mitzrayim.

8:1 "Put the shofar to your lips! Something like an eagle is over the LORD's house, Because they have broken my covenant, And rebelled against my law. 2 They cry to me, 'My God, we Yisra'el acknowledge you!' 3 Yisra'el has cast off that which is good. The enemy will pursue him. 4 They have set up kings, but not by me. They have made princes, and I didn't approve. Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols, That they may be cut off. 5 Let Shomron throw out his calf-idol! My anger burns against them! How long will it be before the are capable of purity? 6 For this is even from Yisra'el! The workman made it, and it is no God; Indeed, the calf of Shomron shall be broken in pieces. 7 For they sow the wind, And they will reap the whirlwind. He has no standing grain. The stalk will yield no head. If it does yield, strangers will swallow it up. 8 Yisra'el is swallowed up. Now they are among the nations like a worthless thing. 9 For they have gone up to Ashshur, Like a wild donkey wandering alone. Efrayim has hired lovers for himself. 10 But although they sold themselves among the nations, I will now gather them; and they begin to waste away because of the oppression of the king of mighty ones. 11 Because Efrayim has multiplied altars for sinning, They became for him altars for sinning. 12 I wrote for him the many things of my law; But they were regarded as a strange thing. 13 As for the sacrifices of my offerings, they sacrifice flesh and eat it; But the LORD doesn't accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, And punish their sins. They will return to Mitzrayim. 14 For Yisra'el has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; And Yehudah has multiplied fortified cities; But I will send a fire on his cities, And it will devour its fortresses."

9:1 Don't rejoice, Yisra'el, to jubilation like the nations; For you were unfaithful to your God. You love the wages of a prostitute at every grain threshing floor. 2 The threshing floor and the winepress won't feed them, And the new wine will fail her. 3 They won't dwell in the LORD's land; But Efrayim will return to Mitzrayim, And they will eat unclean food in Ashshur. 4 They won't pour out wine offerings to the LORD, Neither will they be pleasing to him. Their sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners; All who eat of it will be polluted; For their bread will be for their appetite. It will not come into the house of the LORD. 5 What will you do in the day of solemn assembly, And in the day of the feast of the LORD? 6 For, behold, they have gone away from destruction. Mitzrayim will gather them up. Mof will bury them. Nettles will possess their pleasant things of silver. Thorns will be in their tents. 7  The days of visitation have come. The days of reckoning have come. Yisra'el will consider the prophet to be a fool, And the man who is inspired to be insane, Because of the abundance of your sins, And because your hostility is great. 8 A prophet watches over Efrayim with my God. A fowler's snare is on all of his paths, And hostility in the house of his God. 9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, As in the days of Gevah. He will remember their iniquity. He will punish them for their sins. 10 I found Yisra'el like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the first ripe in the fig tree at its first season; But they came to Ba`al-Pe`or, and consecrated themselves to the shameful thing, And became abominable like that which they loved. 11 As for Efrayim, their glory will fly away like a bird. There will be no birth, none with child, and no conception. 12 Though they bring up their children, Yet I will bereave them, so that not a man shall be left. Indeed, woe also to them when I depart from them! 13 Efrayim, like I have seen Tzor, is planted in a pleasant place; But Efrayim will bring out his children to the killer. 14 Give them -- LORD what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. 15 "All their wickedness is in Gilgal; For there I hated them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house! I will love them no more. All their princes are rebels. 16 Efrayim is struck. Their root has dried up. They will bear no fruit. Even though they bring forth, yet I will kill the beloved ones of their womb." 17  My God will cast them away, because they did not listen to him; And they will be wanderers among the nations.

NEW TESTAMENT:  3 JOHN 1:1 - 15

1:1 The elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth.
4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear about my children walking in truth.
5Beloved, you do a faithful work in whatever you accomplish for those who are brothers and strangers.
6 They have testified about your love before the assembly. You will do well to send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God,
7 because for the sake of the Name they went out, taking nothing from the Goyim.
8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.
9 I wrote to the assembly, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first among them, doesn't accept what we say.
10 Therefore, if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with wicked words. Not content with this, neither does he himself receive the brothers, and those who would, he forbids and throws out of the assembly.
11 Beloved, don't imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn't seen God.
12 Demetrius has the testimony of all, and of the truth itself; yes, we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.
13 I had many things to write to you, but I am unwilling to write to you with ink and pen;
14 but I hope to see you soon, and we will speak face to face. Shalom be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends by name.

John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
