AUGUST 24
PSALMS: 24, 54, 84, 114, 144
PROVERBS: 24
OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 27:1 - 28:26
NEW TESTAMENT: HEBREWS 11:1 - 16
PSALMS: 24
1 The eretz is the LORD's, with its fullness;
The world, and those who dwell therein.
2 For he has founded it on the seas,
And established it on the floods.
3 Who may ascend to the LORD's hill?
Who may stand in his holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart;
Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood,
And has not sworn deceitfully.
5 He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,
Righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek your face -- even Ya`akov.
Selah.
7 Lift up your heads, you gates;
Be lifted up, you everlasting doors:
The King of glory will come in.
8 Who is the King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty,
The LORD mighty in battle.
9 Lift up your heads, you gates;
Yes, lift them up, you everlasting doors:
The King of glory will come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The LORD of Hosts,
He is the King of glory.
Selah.
PSALMS: 54
1 Save me, God, by your name.
Vindicate me in your might.
2 Hear my prayer, God.
Listen to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have risen up against me.
Violent men have sought after my soul.
They haven't set God before them.
Selah.
4 Behold, God is my helper.
The Lord is the one who sustains my soul.
5 He will repay the evil to my enemies.
Destroy them in your truth.
6 With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you.
I will give thanks to your name, LORD, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me out of all trouble.
My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.
PSALMS: 84
1 How lovely are your dwellings,
LORD of Hosts!
2 My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD.
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
3 Yes, the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young,
Near your altars, LORD of Hosts,
My King, and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house.
They are always praising you. Selah.
5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in you;
Who have set their hearts on a pilgrimage.
6 Passing through the valley of Weeping,
they make it a place of springs.
Yes, the autumn rain covers it with blessings.
7 They go from strength to strength.
Everyone of them appears before God in Tziyon.
8 LORD, God Tzva'ot, hear my prayer.
Listen, God of Ya`akov.
Selah.
9 Behold, God our shield,
Look at the face of your anointed.
10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and a shield.
The LORD will give grace and glory.
He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.
12 LORD of Hosts,
Blessed is the man who trusts in you.
PSALMS: 114
1 When Yisra'el went forth out of Mitzrayim,
The house of Ya`akov from a people of foreign language;
2 Yehudah became his sanctuary,
Yisra'el his dominion.
3 The sea saw it, and fled.
The Yarden was driven back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams,
The little hills like lambs.
5 What was it, you sea, that you fled?
You Yarden, that you turned back?
6 You mountains, that you skipped like rams;
You little hills, like lambs?
7 Tremble, you eretz, at the presence of the Lord,
At the presence of the God of Ya`akov,
8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water,
The flint into a spring of waters.
PSALMS: 144
1 Blessed be the LORD, my rock,
Who teaches my hands to war,
And my fingers to battle:
2 My loving kindness, my fortress,
My high tower, my deliverer,
My shield, and he in whom I take refuge;
Who subdues my people under me.
3 LORD, what is man, that you care for him?
Or the son of man, that you think of him?
4 Man is like a breath.
His days are like a shadow that passes away.
5 Part your heavens, LORD, and come down.
Touch the mountains, and they will smoke.
6 Throw out lightning, and scatter them.
Send out your arrows, and rout them.
7 Stretch out your hand from above,
Rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters,
Out of the hands of foreigners;
8 Whose mouths speak deceit,
Whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
9 I will sing a new song to you, God.
On a ten-stringed lyre,
I will sing praises to you.
10 You are he who gives salvation to kings,
Who rescues David, his servant, from the deadly sword.
11 Rescue me, and deliver me out of the hands of foreigners,
Whose mouths speak deceit,
Whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood.
12 Then our sons will be like well-nurtured plants,
Our daughters like pillars carved to adorn a palace.
13 Our barns are full, filled with all kinds of provision.
Our sheep bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields.
14 Our oxen will pull heavy loads.
There is no breaking in, and no going away,
And no outcry in our streets.
15 Happy are the people who are in such a situation.
Happy are the people whose God is the LORD.
PROVERBS: 24
1 Don't you be envious against evil men;
Neither desire to be with them:
2 For their hearts plot violence,
And their lips talk about mischief.
3 Through wisdom a house is built;
By understanding it is established;
4 By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all rare and beautiful treasure.
5 A wise man has great power;
And a knowledgeable man increases strength;
6 For by wise guidance you wage your war;
And victory is in many advisors.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool:
He doesn't open his mouth in the gate.
8 One who plots to do evil
Will be called a schemer.
9 The schemes of folly are sin.
The mocker is detested by men.
10 If you falter in the time of trouble,
Your strength is small.
11 Rescue those who are being led away to death!
Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!
12 If you say,
"Behold, we didn't know this;"
Doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it?
He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it?
Shall he not render to every man according to his work?
13 My son, eat honey, for it is good;
The droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:
14 So you shall know wisdom to be to your soul;
If you have found it, then will there be a reward,
Your hope will not be cut off.
15 Don't lay in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous.
Don't destroy his resting-place:
16 For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again;
But the wicked are overthrown by calamity.
17 Don't rejoice when your enemy falls.
Don't let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;
18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him,
And he turn away his wrath from him.
19 Don't fret yourself because of evildoers;
Neither be envious of the wicked:
20 For there will be no reward to the evil man;
And the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.
21 My son, fear the LORD and the king.
Don't join those who are rebellious:
22 For their calamity will rise suddenly;
The destruction from them both -- who knows?
23 These also are sayings of the wise.
To show partiality in judgment is not good.
24 He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous;"
Peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him --
25 But it will go well with those who convict the guilty,
And a rich blessing will come on them.
26 An honest answer Is like a kiss on the lips.
27 Prepare your work outside.
Make it ready for you in the field.
Afterwards, build your house.
28 Don't be a witness against your neighbor without cause.
Don't deceive with your lips.
29 Don't say, "I will do to him as he has done to me;
I will render to the man according to his work."
30 I went by the field of the sluggard,
By the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 Behold, it was all grown over with thorns.
Its surface was covered with nettles,
And its stone wall was broken down.
32 Then I saw, and considered well.
I saw, and received instruction:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to sleep;
34 So shall your poverty come as a robber,
And your want as an armed man.
OLD TESTAMENT: EZEKIEL 27:1 - 28:26
27:1 The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, 2 You, son of man, take up a lamentation over Tzor; 3 and tell Tzor, you who dwell at the entry of the sea, who are the merchant of the peoples to many isles, thus says the Lord GOD: You, Tzor, have said, I am perfect in beauty. 4 Your borders are in the heart of the seas; your builders have perfected your beauty. 5 They have made all your planks of fir trees from Senir; they have taken a cedar from Levanon to make a mast for you. 6 Of the oaks of Bashan have they made your oars; they have made your benches of ivory inlaid in boxwood, from the isles of Kittiyim. 7 Of fine linen with embroidered work from Mitzrayim was your sail, that it might be to you for an ensign; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was your awning. 8 The inhabitants of Tzidon and Arvad were your rowers: your wise men, Tzor, were in you, they were your pilots. 9 The old men of Geval and the wise men of it were in you your repairers of ship seams: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to deal in your merchandise. 10 Paras and Lud and Put were in your army, your men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in you; they set forth your comeliness. 11 The men of Arvad with your army were on your walls round about, and valorous men were in your towers; they hanged their shields on your walls round about; they have perfected your beauty. 12 Tarshish was your merchant by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded for your wares. 13 Yavan, Tuval, and Meshekh, they were your traffickers; they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass for your merchandise. 14 They of the house of Togarmah traded for your wares with horses and war-horses and mules. 15 The men of Dedan were your traffickers; many isles were the market of your hand: they brought you in exchange horns of ivory and ebony. 16 Aram was your merchant by reason of the multitude of your handiworks: they traded for your wares with emeralds, purple, and embroidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and rubies. 17 Yehudah, and Eretz-Yisra'el, they were your traffickers: they traded for your merchandise wheat of Minnit, and confections, and honey, and oil, and balm. 18 Dammesek was your merchant for the multitude of your handiworks, by reason of the multitude of all kinds of riches, with the wine of Helbon, and white wool. 19 Dan and Yavan traded with yarn for your wares: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were among your merchandise. 20 Dedan was your trafficker in precious cloths for riding. 21 `Arav, and all the princes of Kedar, they were the merchants of your hand; in lambs, and rams, and goats, in these were they your merchants. 22 The traffickers of Sheva and Ra`mah, they were your traffickers; they traded for your wares with the chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold. 23 Haran and Kanneh and `Eden, the traffickers of Sheva, Ashshur [and] Kilmad, were your traffickers. 24 These were your traffickers in choice wares, in wrappings of blue and embroidered work, and in chests of rich clothing, bound with cords and made of cedar, among your merchandise. 25 The ships of Tarshish were your caravans for your merchandise: and you were replenished, and made very glorious in the heart of the seas. 26 Your rowers have brought you into great waters: the east wind has broken you in the heart of the seas. 27 Your riches, and your wares, your merchandise, your mariners, and your pilots, your repairers of ship seams, and the dealers in your merchandise, and all your men of war, who are in you, with all your company which is in the midst of you, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of your ruin. 28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots the suburbs shall shake. 29 All who handled the oar, the mariners, [and] all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand on the land, 30 and shall cause their voice to be heard over you, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust on their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes: 31 and they shall make themselves bald for you, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for you in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning. 32 In their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for you, and lament over you, [saying], Who is there like Tzor, like her who is brought to silence in the midst of the sea? 33 When your wares went forth out of the seas, you filled many peoples; you did enrich the kings of the eretz with the multitude of your riches and of your merchandise. 34 In the time that you were broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, your merchandise and all your company did fall in the midst of you. 35 All the inhabitants of the isles are astonished at you, and their kings are horribly afraid; they are troubled in their face. 36 The merchants among the peoples hiss at you; you are become a terror, and you shall nevermore have any being.
28:1 The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, 2 Son of man, tell the prince of Tzor, Thus says the Lord GOD: Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet you are man, and not God, though you did set your heart as the heart of God;- 3 behold, you are wiser than Daniyel; there is no secret that is hidden from you; 4 by your wisdom and by your understanding you have gotten you riches, and have gotten gold and silver into your treasures; 5 by your great wisdom [and] by your traffic have you increased your riches, and your heart is lifted up because of your riches;- 6 therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have set your heart as the heart of God, 7 therefore, behold, I will bring strangers on you, the terrible of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and they shall defile your brightness. 8 They shall bring you down to the pit; and you shall die the death of those who are slain, in the heart of the seas. 9 Will you yet say before him who kills you, I am God? but you are man, and not God, in the hand of him who wounds you. 10 You shall die the death of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, says the Lord GOD. 11Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 12 Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tzor, and tell him, Thus says the Lord GOD: You seal up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 You were in `Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, the sardius, the pitdah, and the diamond, the bareket, the shoham, and the yashefay, the sappir, the yahalom, and the yahalom, and gold: the workmanship of your timbrels and of your pipes was in you; in the day that you were created they were prepared. 14 You were the anointed Keruv who covers: and I set you, [so that] you were on the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until unrighteousness was found in you. 16 By the abundance of your traffic they filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I have cast you as profane out of the mountain of God; and I have destroyed you, covering Keruv, from the midst of the stones of fire.17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness: I have cast you to the ground; I have laid you before kings, that they may see you. 18 By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your traffic, you have profaned your sanctuaries; therefore have I brought forth a fire from the midst of you; it has devoured you, and I have turned you to ashes on the eretz in the sight of all those who see you. 19 All those who know you among the peoples shall be astonished at you: you are become a terror, and you shall nevermore have any being. 20 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 21 Son of man, set your face toward Tzidon, and prophesy against it, 22 and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, Tzidon; and I will be glorified in the midst of you; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall have executed judgments in her, and shall be sanctified in her. 23 For I will send pestilence into her, and blood into her streets; and the wounded shall fall in the midst of her, with the sword on her on every side; and they shall know that I am the LORD. 24 There shall be no more a pricking brier to the house of Yisra'el, nor a hurting thorn of any that are round about them, that did despite to them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD. 25 Thus says the Lord GOD: When I shall have gathered the house of Yisra'el from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the nations, then shall they dwell in their own land which I gave to my servant Ya`akov. 26 They shall dwell securely therein; yes, they shall build houses, and plant vineyards, and shall dwell securely, when I have executed judgments on all those who do them despite round about them; and they shall know that I am the LORD their God.
NEW TESTAMENT: HEBREWS 11:1 - 16
11:1 Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.
2 For by this, the Zakenim obtained testimony.
3 By faith, we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.
4 By faith, Hevel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Kayin, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.
5 By faith, Hanokh was translated, so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.
6 Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.
7 By faith, Noach, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared a teivah for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.
8 By faith, Avraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.
9 By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Yitzchak and Ya`akov, the heirs with him of the same promise.
10 For he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
11 By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.
12 Therefore they were fathered by one, and him as good as dead, as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore.
13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the eretz.
14 For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking after a country of their own.
15 If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
John 3:16-21 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, F that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. G 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
