PSALMS: 14
1 The fool has said in his heart,
"There is no God.
" They are corrupt, they have done abominable works.
There is none who does good.
2 The LORD looked down from heaven on the children of men,
To see if there were any who did understand,
Who did seek after God.
3 They have all gone aside;
they have together become corrupt.
There is none who does good, no, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And don't call on the LORD?
5 There were they in great fear,
For God is in the generation of the righteous.
6 You put to shame the counsel of the poor,
Because the LORD is his refuge.
7 Oh that the yeshu`ah of Yisra'el would come out of Tziyon!
When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people,
Then Ya`akov shall rejoice, and Yisra'el shall be glad.
PSALMS: 44
1 We have heard with our ears,
God; Our fathers have told us,
What work you did in their days,
In the days of old.
2 You drove out the nations with your hand,
But you planted them.
You afflicted the peoples,
But you spread them abroad.
3 For they didn't get the land in possession by their own sword,
Neither did their own arm save them;
But your right hand, and your arm, and the light of your face,
Because you were favorable to them.
4 You are my King, God.
Command victories for Ya`akov!
5 Through you, will we push down our adversaries.
Through your name, will we tread them under who rise up against us.
6 For I will not trust in my bow,
Neither shall my sword save me.
7 But you have saved us from our adversaries,
And have put them to shame who hate us.
8 In God have we made our boast all day long,
We will give thanks to your name forever. Selah.
9 But now you rejected us, and brought us to dishonor,
And don't go out with our armies.
10 You make us turn back from the adversary.
Those who hate us take spoil for themselves.
11 You have made us like sheep for food,
And have scattered us among the nations.
12You sell your people for nothing,
And have gained nothing from their sale.
13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors,
A scoffing and a derision to those who are round about us.
14 You make us a byword among the nations,
A shaking of the head among the peoples.
15 All day long is my dishonor before me,
And shame covers my face,
16 At the taunt of one who reproaches and reviles,
Because of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come on us,
Yet have we not forgotten you,
Neither have we been false to your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
Neither have our steps declined from your way,
19 That you have crushed us in the haunt of jackals,
And covered us with the shadow of death.
20 If we have forgotten the name of our God,
Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;
21 Won't God search this out?
For he knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Yes, for your sake are we killed all day long.
We are regarded as sheep for the slaughter.
23 Wake up!
Why do you sleep, Lord? Arise!
Don't reject us forever.
24 Why do you hide your face,
And forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust.
Our body cleaves to the eretz.
26 Rise up to help us.
Redeem us for your loving kindness' sake.
PSALMS: 74
1 God, why have you rejected us forever?
Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
2 Remember your congregation, which you purchased of old,
Which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your inheritance;
Mount Tziyon, in which you have lived.
3 Lift up your feet to the perpetual ruins,
All the evil that the enemy has done in the sanctuary.
4 Your adversaries have roared in the midst of your assembly.
They have set up their standards as signs.
5 They behaved like men wielding axes,
Cutting through a thicket of trees.
6 Now all its carved work
They break down with hatchet and hammers.
7 They have burned your sanctuary to the ground.
They have profaned the dwelling-place of your Name.
8 They said in their heart,
"We will crush them completely.
" They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped.
9 We see no miraculous signs.
There is no longer any prophet,
Neither is there among us anyone who knows how long.
10 How long, God, shall the adversary reproach?
Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?
11 Why do you draw back your hand, even your right hand?
Take it out of your pocket and consume them!
12 Yet God is my King of old,
Working salvation in the midst of the eretz.
13 You divided the sea by your strength.
You broke the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.
14 You broke the heads of Livyatan in pieces.
You gave him as food to people and desert creatures.
15 You opened up spring and stream.
You dried up mighty rivers.
16 The day is yours, the night is also yours.
You have prepared the light and the sun.
17 You have set all the boundaries of the eretz.
You have made summer and winter.
18 Remember this, that the enemy has mocked you, LORD.
Foolish people have blasphemed your name.
19 Don't deliver the soul of your dove to wild beasts.
Don't forget the life of your poor forever.
20 Honor your covenant,
For haunts of violence fill the dark places of the eretz.
21 Don't let the oppressed return ashamed.
Let the poor and needy praise your name.
22 Arise, God! Plead your own cause.
Remember how the foolish man mocks you all day.
23 Don't forget the voice of your adversaries.
The tumult of those who rise up against you ascends continually.
PSALMS: 104
1 Bless the LORD, my soul.
The LORD, my God, you are very great.
You are clothed with honor and majesty.
2 He covers himself with light as with a garment.
He stretches out the heavens like a curtain.
3 He lays the beams of his chambers in the waters.
He makes the clouds his chariot.
He walks on the wings of the wind.
4He makes his messengers winds;
His servants flames of fire.
5 He laid the foundations of the eretz,
That it should not be moved forever.
6 You covered it with the deep as with a cloak.
The waters stood above the mountains.
7 At your rebuke they fled.
At the voice of your thunder they hurried away.
8 The mountains rose,
The valleys sank down,
To the place which you had assigned to them.
9 You have set a boundary that they may not pass over;
That they don't turn again to cover the eretz.
10 He sends forth springs into the valleys.
They run among the mountains.
11 They give drink to every animal of the field.
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12 The birds of the sky nest by them.
They sing among the branches.
13 He waters the mountains from his chambers.
The eretz is filled with the fruit of your works.
14 He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,
And plants for man to cultivate,
That he may bring forth food out of the eretz:
15Wine that makes glad the heart of man,
Oil to make his face to shine,
And bread that strengthens man's heart.
16 The LORD's trees are well watered,
The cedars of Levanon, which he has planted;
17 Where the birds make their nests.
The stork makes its home in the fir trees.
18 The high mountains are for the wild goats.
The rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.
19 He appointed the moon for seasons.
The sun knows when to set.
20 You make darkness, and it is night,
In which all the animals of the forest prowl.
21 The young lions roar after their prey,
And seek their food from God.
22 The sun rises, and they steal away,
And lay down in their dens.
23 Man goes forth to his work,
To his labor until the evening.
24 The LORD, how many are your works!
In wisdom have you made them all.
The eretz is full of your riches.
25 There is the sea, great and wide,
In which are innumerable living things,
Both small and great animals.
26 There the ships go,
And livyatan, whom you formed to play there.
27 These all wait for you,
That you may give them their food in due season.
28 You give to them; they gather.
You open your hand; they are satisfied with good.
29 You hide your face: they are troubled;
You take away their breath: they die, and return to the dust.
30 You send forth your Spirit: they are created.
You renew the face of the ground.
31 Let the glory of the LORD endure forever.
Let the LORD rejoice in his works.
32 He looks at the eretz, and it trembles.
He touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the LORD as long as I live.
I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.
34 Let your meditation be sweet to him.
I will rejoice in the LORD.
35 Let sinners be consumed out of the eretz.
Let the wicked be no more.
Bless the LORD, my soul.

PSALMS: 134
1 Look! Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD,
Who stand by night in the LORD's house!
2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary.
Praise the LORD!
3 May the LORD bless you from Tziyon;
Even he who made heaven and eretz.
PROVERBS: 14
1 Every wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.
2 He who walks in his uprightness fears the LORD,
But he who is perverse in his ways despises him.
3 The fool's talk brings a rod to his back,
But the lips of the wise protect them.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean,
But much increase is by the strength of the ox.
5 A truthful witness will not lie,
But a false witness pours out lies.
6 A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn't find it,
But knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.
7 Stay away from a foolish man,
For you won't find knowledge on his lips.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way,
But the folly of fools is deceit.
9 Fools mock at making atonement for sins,
But among the upright there is good will.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness and joy;
He will not share these with a stranger.
11 The house of the wicked will be overthrown,
But the tent of the upright will flourish.
12There is a way which seems right to a man,
But in the end it leads to death.
13 Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful,
And mirth may end in heaviness.
14 The unfaithful will be repaid for his own ways;
Likewise a good man will be rewarded for his ways.
15 The simple believes everything,
But the prudent man carefully considers his ways.
16 A wise man fears, and shuns evil,
But the fool is hotheaded and reckless.
17 He who is quick to become angry will commit folly,
And a crafty man is hated.
18 The simple inherit folly,
But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
19 The evil bow down before the good,
And the wicked, at the gates of the righteous.
20 The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbor,
But the rich person has many friends.
21 He who despises his neighbor sins,
But blessed is he who has pity on the poor.
22 Don't they go astray who plot evil?
But love and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.
23 In all hard work there is profit,
But the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches,
But the folly of fools crowns them with folly.
25 A truthful witness saves souls,
But a false witness is deceitful.
26 In the fear of the LORD is a secure fortress,
And he will be a refuge for his children.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life,
Turning people from the snares of death.
28 In the multitude of people is the king's glory,
But in the lack of people is the destruction of the prince.
29 He who is slow to anger has great understanding,
But he who has a quick temper displays folly.
30 The life of the body is a heart at shalom,
But envy rots the bones.
31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker,
But he who is kind to the needy honors him.
32 The wicked is brought down in his calamity,
But in death, the righteous has a refuge.
33 Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding,
And is even made known in the inward part of fools.
34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people.
35 The king's favor is toward a servant who deals wisely,
But his wrath is toward one who causes shame.
33 When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.
OLD TESTAMENT: 2 SAMUEL 20:14 - 21:22
20:14 He went through all the tribes of Yisra'el to Hevel, and to Beit-Ma`akha, and all the Beri`i: and they were gathered together, and went also after him. 15 They came and besieged him in Hevel of Beit-Ma`akha, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people who were with Yo'av battered the wall, to throw it down.16 Then cried a wise woman out of the city, "Hear, hear! Please say to Yo'av, 'Come near here, that I may speak with you.'" 17 He came near to her; and the woman said, Are you Yo'av? He answered, I am. Then she said to him, Hear the words of your handmaid. He answered, I do hear. 18 Then she spoke, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask [counsel] at Hevel: and so they ended [the matter]. 19 I am of those who are peaceable and faithful in Yisra'el: you seek to destroy a city and a mother in Yisra'el: why will you swallow up the inheritance of the LORD? 20 Yo'av answered, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy. 21 The matter is not so: but a man of the hill-country of Efrayim, Sheva the son of Bikhri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. The woman said to Yo'av, Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall. 22 Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheva the son of Bikhri, and threw it out to Yo'av. He blew the shofar, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Yo'av returned to Yerushalayim to the king. 23 Now Yo'av was over all the host of Yisra'el; and Benayah the son of Yehoiada was over the Kereti and over the Peleti;24 and Adoram was over the men subject to forced labor; and Yehoshafat the son of Achilud was the recorder; 25 and Sheva was Sofer; and Tzadok and Avyatar were Kohanim; 26 and also `Ira the Ya'irite was chief minister to David.
21:1 There was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of the LORD. The LORD said, It is for Sha'ul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Giv`onim. 2 The king called the Giv`onim, and said to them (now the Giv`onim were not of the children of Yisra'el, but of the remnant of the Amori; and the children of Yisra'el had sworn to them: and Sha'ul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Yisra'el and Yehudah); 3 and David said to the Giv`onim, What shall I do for you? And with what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the LORD? 4 The Giv`onim said to him, It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Sha'ul, or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Yisra'el. He said, What you shall say, that will I do for you. 5 They said to the king, The man who consumed us, and who devised against us, [that] we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Yisra'el, 6 let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gevah of Sha'ul, the chosen of the LORD. The king said, I will give them. 7 But the king spared Mefivoshet, the son of Yonatan the son of Sha'ul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Yonatan the son of Sha'ul. 8 But the king took the two sons of Ritzpah the daughter of Ayah, whom she bore to Sha'ul, Armoni and Mefivoshet; and the five sons of Mikhal the daughter of Sha'ul, whom she bore to `Adri'el the son of Barzillai the Mecholati: 9 He delivered them into the hands of the Giv`onim, and they hanged them in the mountain before the LORD, and they fell [all] seven together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest. 10 Ritzpah the daughter of Ayah took sackcloth, and spread it for her on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured on them from the sky; and she allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the animals of the field by night. 11 It was told David what Ritzpah the daughter of Ayah, the concubine of Sha'ul, had done. 12 David went and took the bones of Sha'ul and the bones of Yonatan his son from the men of Yavesh-Gil`ad, who had stolen them from the street of Beit-Shan, where the Pelishtim had hanged them, in the day that the Pelishtim killed Sha'ul in Gilboa; 13 and he brought up from there the bones of Sha'ul and the bones of Yonatan his son: and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged. 14 They buried the bones of Sha'ul and Yonatan his son in the country of Binyamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. After that God was entreated for the land. 15 The Pelishtim had war again with Yisra'el; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Pelishtim. David grew faint; 16 and Yishbi-Benov, who was of the sons of the Rafa, the weight of whose spear was three hundred [shekels] of brass in weight, he being girded with a new [sword], thought to have slain David. 17 But Avishai the son of Tzeru'yah helped him, and struck the Pelishti, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, You shall go no more out with us to battle, that you don't quench the lamp of Yisra'el. 18 It came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Pelishtim at Gov: then Sibbekhai the Hushatite killed Saf, who was of the sons of the Rafa. 19 There was again war with the Pelishtim at Gov; and Elchanan the son of Ya`are-Oregim the Beit-hallachmite killed Golyat the Gittite's brother, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. 20There was again war at Gat, where was a man of great stature, who had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the Rafa. 21 When he defied Yisra'el, Yonatan the son of Shim`i, David's brother, killed him. 22 These four were born to the Rafa in Gat; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
NEW TESTAMENT: ACTS 1:1 - 26
1:1 The first book I wrote, Theophilus, concerned all that Yeshua began both to do and to teach,
2 until the day in which he was received up, after he had given mitzvah through the Ruach HaKodesh to the apostles whom he had chosen.
3 To these he also showed himself alive after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days, and spoke about God's kingdom.
4 Being assembled together with them, he charged them, "Don't depart from Yerushalayim, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me.
5 For Yochanan indeed immersed in water, but you will be immersed in the Ruach HaKodesh not many days from now."
6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, are you now restoring the kingdom to Yisra'el?"
7 He said to them, "It isn't for you to know times or seasons which the Father has set within His own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Ruach HaKodesh has come on you. You will be witnesses to me in Yerushalayim, in all Yehudah and Shomron, and to the uttermost parts of the eretz."
9 When he had said these things, as they were looking, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 While they were looking steadfastly into the sky as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white clothing,
11 who also said, "You men of the Galil, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Yeshua, who was received up from you into the sky will come back in the same way as you saw him going into the sky."
12 Then they returned to Yerushalayim from the mountain called Olivet, which is near Yerushalayim, a Shabbat day's journey away.
13 When they had come in, they went up into the upper room, where they were staying; that is Kefa, Yochanan, Ya`akov, Andrai, Pilipos, T'oma, Bar-Talmai, Mattityahu, Ya`akov the son of Halfai, Shim`on the Zealot, and Yehudah the son of Ya`akov.
14 All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Miryam the mother of Yeshua, and with his brothers.
15 In these days, Kefa stood up in the midst of the talmidim (and the number of names was about one hundred twenty), and said,
16 "Brothers, it was necessary that this Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Ruach HaKodesh spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Yehudah, who was guide to those who took Yeshua.
17 For he was numbered with us, and received his portion in this ministry.
18 Now this man obtained a field with the reward for his wickedness, and falling headlong, his body burst open, and all his intestines gushed out.
19 It became known to everyone who lived in Yerushalayim that in their language that field was called 'Hakal-Dama,' that is, 'The field of blood.'
20 For it is written in the book of Tehillim, 'Let his habitation be made desolate, Let no one dwell therein,' and, 'Let another take his office.'
21 Of the men therefore who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Yeshua went in and went out among us,
22 beginning from the immersion of Yochanan, to the day that he was received up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection."
23 They put forward two, Yosef called Bar-Sabba, who was surnamed Justus, and Mattityah.
24 They prayed, and said, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two you have chosen
25 to take part in this ministry and apostleship from which Yehudah fell away, that he might go to his own place."
26 They drew lots for them, and the lot fell on Mattityah, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

א' נבל אמר בלבו: "אין אלהים".
שחיתים, מעשי תועבות עשו.
אין עושה טוב.
ב' ה' הביט מן השמים על בני האדם,
לראות אם יש מבין,
מבקש אלהים.
ג' כולם סוררו,
יחד השחיתו.
אין עושה טוב, אפילו לא אחד. 4 הכל עושי עוולה לא ידעו,
האוכלים את עמי כאוכל לחם,
ואל ה' לא יקראו?
5 שם פחדו מאוד,
כי אלהים בדור צדיקים.
6 תבייש עצה עניים,
כי ה' מחסו.
7 מי ייתן ויצא ישוע ישראל מציון!
בהשיב ה' שבת עמו,
אז ישמח יעקב וישראל ישמח.
תהילים: מ"ד
1 באוזנינו שמענו,
אלוהים; אבותינו סיפרו לנו,
מה מעשה עשית בימם,
בימי קדם.
2 בידך גויים גירשת,
ואתה שתלתם.
עונים עמים עניתם,
ואתה פוזרם.
3 כי לא בחרבם ירשו את הארץ,
וגם זרועם לא הושיעה אותם;
כי אם ימינך וזרועך ואור פניך,
כי חפצת בהם.
4 אתה מלכי, אלהים.
צוה ניצחונות ליעקב!
5 בך נדחק צריוננו.
בשמך נרמוס את הקמים עלינו.
6 כי לא אבטח בקשתי,
וגם חרבי לא תושיעני.
7 ואתה הושעת אותנו מצרינו,
ובושת את שונאינו.
8 באלוהים התפארנו כל היום,
ונדה לשמך לנצח, סלה.
9 ועתה דחת אותנו והבאת אותנו לחרפה,
ואל תצא עם צבאותינו. 10 תסובב אותנו מפני האויב.
שונאינו שללו לעצמם.
11 העמדת אותנו כצאן למאכל,
ותפיזרת אותנו בגויים.
12את עמך מוכרת ללא תמורה,
ולא הרווחת ממכירתם דבר.
13 העמדת אותנו לחרפה לשכנינו,
ללעג ולקללה לסובבים אותנו.
14 העמדת אותנו למילים בגויים,
לנענע ראש בעמים.
15 כל היום חרפתי לפני,
ובושה מכסה פני,
16 מלחפת מחרף ומגדף,
בגלל אויב וגומלן.
17 כל זאת בא עלינו,
ולא שכחנו אותך,
ולא בכרנו בבריתך.
18 לא נָסַר לִבֵּנוּ,
וְלֹא סָטָה צַדְעֵינוּ מִדֶּרֶךָ,
19 אֲשֶׁר רָצְצְתָּנוּ בְּמַעֲבֹת תִנִים,
וְכִיסְתָּנוּ בְּצֶל מָוֶת.
20 אם שכחנו שם אלוהינו,
ואף אִם פְּרַשְׁט יָדֵינוּ אֶל־אֵל נָכָר;
21 הֲלֹא יַחֲקֹר זֹאת?
כִּי יוֹדֵעַ רְזוֹת לֵב.
22 גַּם, לְמַעֲבָדֶךָ נִמְגָּר כָּל־הַיּוֹם.
כְּצֹאן לְטַבָּחָה נִחְשָׁב.
23 הַקּוּר!
לָמָּה תִּשָּׁנֶה, יְהוָה? קוּמוּ!
אַל־תַּדַּחֵנוּ עוֹלָם.
24 לָמָּה תַּסְתִּיר פָּנֶיךָ,
וְשְׁכַח עַנְיָנוּ וְצַקֵּנוּ?
25 כִּי שְׁפוּנָה עָפָר נִשְׁפָּחָה,
גוּפֵנוּ דָּבַק אֶל־אֶרֶץ.
26 קוּמוּ לִעֲזֹרֵנוּ.
גאל אותנו למען חסדך.
תהילים: ed
1 אלוהים, למה דחת אותנו לנצח?
למה יתבשל אפו בצאן מרעייך?
2 זכר את עדתך, אשר רכשת מקדם,
אשר גאלת להיות שבט נחלתך,
הר ציון, אשר ישבת בו.
3 הרים רגליך אל חורבות נצחיות,
כל הרעה אשר עשה אויב במקדש.
4 אויביך שאגו בתוך עדתך.
הציבו דגלם לאותות.
5 התנהגו כאנשי גרזנים,
חוצצים סבך עצים.
6 עתה כל מפעלו
ישברו בגרזן ובפטישים.
7 שרפו את מקדשך עד ארץ.
חללו משכן שמך.
8 אמרו בלבם:
"נרסק אותם כליל."
שרפו את כל המקומות בארץ אשר נעבדו את אלוהים.
9 איננו רואים אותות.
אין עוד נביא,
וגם אין בנו מי יודע עד מתי.
10 עד מתי, אלוהים, יחרף האויב?
האם אויב יחלל שמך לנצח?
11 למה תמשוך ידך, אפילו ימינך?
הוצא מכיסך ותכלה אותם!
12 אך אלוהים הוא מלכי מימים עברו,
עושה ישועה בתוך הארץ.
13 בכוחך בקעת ים.
ראשי מפלצות ים שברת במים.
14 ראשי לוויתן שברת.
נתת אותו למאכל לאנשים וליצורי מדבר.
15 מעיין ונחל פתחת.
נהרות אדירים ייבשת.

ברית חדשה: מעשי השליחים א':1-26
1:1 הספר הראשון שכתבתי, תיאופילוס, עסק בכל אשר החל ישוע לעשות וללמד,
2 עד היום אשר הועלה למעלה, לאחר שנתן מצווה ברוח הקודש לשליחים אשר בחר.
3 גם לאלה הראה את עצמו חי לאחר סבלו על ידי סימנים רבים, כשהוא נראה להם במשך ארבעים יום, ודיבר על מלכות אלוהים. 4 בהיותו מתאסף איתם, ציווה עליהם: "אל תלכו מירושלים, אלא חכו להבטחת האב, אשר שמעתם ממני.
5 יוחנן אמנם טבל במים, אך אתם ייטבלו ברוח הקודש בעוד ימים ספורים."
6 לכן, כאשר התכנסו יחד, שאלו אותו: "אדוני, האם אתה מחזיר את המלכות לישראל?"
7 אמר להם: "לא לכם לדעת זמנים או זמנים אשר קבע האב בסמכותו.
8 אך תקבלו כוח כאשר רוח הקודש תבוא עליכם. ותהיו עדים לי בירושלים, בכל יהודה ושומרון ועד קצה הארץ."

10 בעוד שהם הביטו אל השמיים בהלכו, הנה שני אנשים עומדים לידם בבגדים לבנים.
11 ואלו: "אנשי הגליל, מדוע אתם עומדים ומביטים אל השמיים? ישוע זה, אשר עלה מכם אל השמיים, ישוב כמעשה אשר ראיתם אותו עולה אל השמיים."
12 אז שבו לירושלים מהר הזיתים, אשר סמוך לירושלים, במרחק יום שבת.
13 ויבואו ועלו אל העליונה, שם שהו; הוא כיפא, יוחנן, יעקב, אנדריי, פיליפוס, תומא, בר תלמי, מתתיהו, יעקב בן חלפי, שמעון הקנאי ויהודה בן יעקב.
14 כל אלה התמידו בתפילה ובבקשה יחד, עם הנשים, עם מרים אמו של ישוע ועם אחיו.
15 בימים ההם עמד כיפא בתוך התלמידים (ומספר השמות היה כמאה ועשרים) ואמר:
16 "אחים, היה צורך למלא את הכתוב הזה, אשר דיבר רוח הקודש מראש בפי דוד על יהודה, אשר היה מורה הדרך לאלו אשר קיבלו את ישוע.
17 כי הוא נמנה עמנו וקיבל את חלקו בשירות הזה.
18 האיש הזה השיג שדה בשכר רשעתו, ונפל על ראשו, גופו נפתח וכל מעיו נשפכו.
19 נודע לכל יושבי ירושלים שבשפתם נקרא השדה ההוא 'חקל דמע', כלומר 'שדה הדם'. 20 כי כתוב בספר תהילים: 'יהיה מעונו חרב, איש אל יגור בו', ו'אחר יקח את משרתו'.
21 לכן, מן האנשים אשר ליוו אותנו כל הזמן אשר בא ויצא האדון ישוע בינינו,
22 החל מטבילתו של יוחנן ועד היום אשר עלה מאיתנו, אחד מהם חייב להיות עד איתנו לתחייתו."
23 והעלו שניים, את יוסף הנקרא בר-סבא, אשר נקרא יוסטוס, ואת מתתיהו.
24 התפללו ואמרו: "אתה, אדוני, היודע לבבות כל האנשים, הראה את מי מבין השניים האלה בחרת

26 והורו להם גורל, והגורל נפל על מתתיהו, והוא נמנה עם אחד עשר השליחים.
